I usually scout every couple weeks. I like to try to follow the news/board movement of storyline players and see how team needs go to try to avoid wasting points scouting kids at a position I don't need or scouting to high up (like a 2nd round kid at a loaded position I'd likely draft later to take a chance on someone) when there's little chance I'd draft him high/reach for him.

"Just keep playing. That's what I was telling the guys. They were starting to get down, I was starting to get down, we were wounded from injuries. But I just told them. I'm fighting until they cart me off this field or the refs say 'Game Over'. Fight with me, " Pryor spoke after the game.

A lot of things can be said about what Pryor can't do, but, yet again, he shows why he gets so much rope from the coaching staff. Down by 14 and looking like they had no momentum at all as the pass rush was unrelenting from Dumervil and his mates, Pryor found some plays on the field and starting making his team believe.

It got started with Moeaki starting something down the field, beating the Broncos on a blitz. That seemed to give the team confidence. Stevan Ridley, coming in for the injured Julio Caulder, starting finding some room now that the pass was a threat. Steven Grant also starting getting into a bit of a groove.

Then Moeaki found an opening matched up against Von Miller. He beat the linebacker handily and Pryor hit him in stride to get the Raiders to within a score. The two point conversion failed, however.

The Raiders attempted an onside kick, but could not come up with it. Lyle implored his defense to not give up. The Broncos were doing what they could to keep McClain from being a force all second half long, but they forgot about "Mr. Turnover" Tyvon Branch. Moreno sprinted to the outside, looking to pick up the first down, but Branch popped him with a hit and Tommy Kelly, hustling his veteran butt down the field, pounced on the football. The Raiders got the chance they needed.

" 'A chip and a chair' as they say in poker. That's what we got thanks to Tyvon, " Steven Grant commented.

The Raiders would have to go 'all-in' on Pryor and the deep pass. A dangerous proposition for several reasons. However, a new face stepped up: Randall Cobb.

The waiver wire pick up started slashing across the defense, grabbing passes and moving the ball deep down field. Tony Moeaki joined in and McCants picked up a catch as well. Lyle used his timeouts deftly and was not scared to attack the middle of the field.

Pryor worked the offense into the red zone, and looked for room. With 2 timeouts in his pocket, Pryor took a shorter throw to Moeaki to make it 1st and goal. On 1st and goal, Von Miller rushed the passer, forcing a hurried throw, but it flew out of the back of the end zone as Pryor didn't want to force it.

On 2nd and goal, Pryor found Randal Cobb along the back of the end zone and a perfect pass hit him for the go-ahead score. The play was confirmed by the booth and the Raiders again tried for two. This attempt also failed, but the Raiders accomplished what they wanted, grabbing the lead - and, as a bonus, used up most of the time on the clock, putting Skelton in a horrible position.

The kick coverage team helped by stopping the Broncos inside the 20 yard line. Three incomplete passes later, the Raiders celebrated their win.

"It was murder not being able to go out there, seeing my quarterback struggle like that, but nice to see the guys keep on working and pulling it out, " Denarius Moore spoke.

The excitement over the great win was tempered by thoughts of the injured players and what their statuses would be. Still, though, the Raiders swept a divisional rival and pulled even with them at 3-2.

Yep. It might getting to the point where I need to just pass on a prospect that's got low INJ rating, no matter how good he is. Caulder is tough because his INJ isn't that bad, but Marshall's is questionable - of course, it fits with his storyline (out for the year in his senior year with a knee injury).

            Offense Squeezes One Out
            Cobb Comes Through Again, Thanks
            to Kindle, McClain Tandem

Offense was almost optional in this one. For a while, the score was 3-3, then 6-6. The defense was on point against the run game, but Josh Freeman was doing well all game long.

The coverage did give up some yardage, but they came up big when needed, as did the defense. On third down, the team gave up just 2 third down conversions on 14 attempts.

Freeman tried his best to come up with a rally, however. The Titans had to move the ball for a touchdown with about 1:40 left and 2 time outs. Freeman didn't need the timeouts as he worked the 2-minute drill efficiently, keeping the offense moving and calling the right plays at the line.

The coverage, perhaps feeling some drain from the uptempo pace, started missing a few tackles and coming up a little late on defense, letting the Titans build up a lot of momentum. They pushed the ball into the red zone with about 30 seconds left.

The pass rush was also slowing down, giving Freeman time to survey the field. However, the coverage was doing a great job in the condensed area of the red zone. On first and second down, Freeman could only throw the ball away. On third down, he tried to sneak McGahee in with a shotgun draw. The halfback gained some yards, but it was still 4th and goal.

On 4th down, Freeman made a good pass to the back corner of the end zone, and Branch tipped the pass, but it was still nearly caught. Rookie corner Brandon Madison hit the receiver to make sure the ball fell to the grass.

On the Raiders' side, Ridley was decent in the run game, especially in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Grant also started getting things going, and that helped give the Raiders rhythm to keep the ball moving. The Raiders had gone with shorter throws for much of the game with throws to the outside on the shots they did take, but this time, sent Cobb deep over the middle along with Ware and McCants deep outside.

The safeties fanned out to take the go routes and Cobb floated into the space behind the MLB and Pryor hit him in the end zone. Cobb picked up just 64 yards on the day, but also the game's only TD as well.

The win takes Oakland to 4-2.

Raiders Midweek News - Week 7

Various news tidbits "acquired" from various sources about the team.

The following notable data was tabulated from the various team scouts:
-Rolando McClain's consistency is elevated from 0 to 1
-Vince Wilfork's consistency is elevated from 3 to 4
-Lamarr Houston's Awareness is up from 81 to 84
-Paris Cooper's man coverage is now 85 (was 82)
-Tevin Ash is up from 77 to 80 in play recognition
-Terrelle Pryor's accuracy on short routes is up from 75 to 77

                  College Kids notes
-Rashard Watson is our top target at this point. He graded out at 85 awareness and 88 throwing power...but I'm not thrilled about his Pryor-esque accuracy grades...Too bad Rancour is grossly overrated...I'd suggest he trade blood to get him on draft day...

-Do we need a good back up Guard? D'Cody Foreman looks solid if we do...strong as heck. Or maybe Sergey Wainwright at Center?

-I know outside linebacker ain't our biggest issue, but if we could find a way to get Jordunn Abrams....undersized, but he's plays hard...no super stand areas, but pretty much no weakness that you can't easily get around...

He had enough in about 3 weeks to grab consistency. I noticed he was getting close last week and decided to wait and see if he could earn enough since he doesn't have any major areas that need improving, and he got enough.

All the defensive players got some serious XP from that 13-6 win.

                        Solid Day For Offense
                        Pass Coverage Slips, But Cobb,
Grant Help Lead Raiders Past Ravens 30-19.

They say a player should never lose his job to injury. While Moore is going to be #1 WR again when he returns, could Grant be pushing for the #1 HB job? He showed good explosiveness today, picking up a touchdown both rushing and receiving.

Randall Cobb picked up 100 yards receiving along with a touchdown, most of them on a long run after the catch where he got by Webb and out-ran everyone else to the end zone. His first day as the primary receiver looked strong. McCants worked mostly on the short routes in this one, grabbing four passes for just 25 yards.

The Raiders in general did little throwing, content with watching Ridley bang his head against the purple and black wall of the Ravens D for just 2.7 a carry. Grant had better success, to say the least, with a 7.2 yards per carry day.

Pryor's day wasn't a thing of beauty, but it accomplished what was needed. He went 14 for 25 for 160 yards and 2 TD. No interceptions thrown.

Flacco was more prolific as the Ravens abandoned the run for most of the game. Flacco racked up 409 yards on 34 of 52 passing. He picked up 2 TDs and threw 1 interception.

"It's been a while since we've been attacked like that, " Paris Cooper commented, "Not our best day, but we held on."

Rice didn't get much on the ground, but he was a frequently targeted receiver. He grabbed 9 receptions for 46 yards. Torrey Smith had the big day, gaining 126 yards on 5 receptions, including a long bomb for a TD. Boldin contributed 116 yards as well.

Still, it was the Raiders' 3rd win in a row and head into the bye week at 5-2.

Dolphins DT Randy Starks is out 3 weeks with a hamstring tear.

                            Scouting:

QB Wade Schumacher (Northwestern) has made an appearance on the team draft board. What got him there was not only solid-looking accuracy, but his vaunted arm strength that has scouts doing double takes. His grade is a 99, which many still can't believe, especially as a late 1st round projection.

"Something is up...no kid that can chuck a ball like that is going to be late first round, " one team scout spoke.

                              College Players:
VT's SS James Caurso grabbed 3 INTs and sacked the QB twice in his last game.

USC RE Robert Morris returned from his academic suspension and picked up 3 sacks as USC defeated Utah State.

Cal WR Howard Moore broke his right leg after making his first, and only, catch of the game.

                              Pro Bowl voting has begun.

Coach John Fox won his 100th game.

                              Awards:

                              Notable development:
RG Cale Welsh's consistency is raised from 1 to 2.

After a one-game experiment, Archie Bracey returns to FS as starter, relegating Mike Mitchell back to the bench.

DT Tommy Kelly rejected the team's contract extension offer. Kelly reportedly wants a 5-year deal and the Raiders don't want to commit that long to the aging DT.

It's a wonder HB Taiwan Jones hasn't been released yet. He fumbled in his one and only touch last week, just reinforcing why he's seen the field less and less.

Rookie CB Brandon Madison can make coaches cringe with his 'eccentric' style and aggressive play, but he's doing enough to hang on to his nickle back status.
