    Oh no...

What a sour pre-retirement gift for Rivers. Confident Ponder can keep this ship afloat though. I can't imagine this hurts your S.B. chances too much.

I agree; I don't think it'll hurt too much but it sucks this happened during the tough part of my schedule. Good chance to get some reps with Ponder when they count. If I can get to by Week 7 bye at 4-2 or even 3-3, I expect Rivers will be back afterwards and I have full confidence I can still win the division.

1 (2) San Francisco 49ers2-0You have to beat the best to be the best, and the 49ers seem fixated on getting back to the Superbowl.
2 (3) Tennessee Titans2-0The Titans' offense is clicking on all cylinders ahead of Monday's crucial game vs. Indy.
3 (1) Los Angeles Chargers1-1Can't be overly disappointed in a loss at San Francisco, but Rivers' injury might cause the defending champs to slide more in coming weeks.
4 (4) Green Bay Packers2-0An easy schedule so far, but the Pack are taking care of business.
5 (7) New Orleans Saints2-0Drew Brees and the Saints spoiled Peyton Manning's Heinz field debut, earning the jump into the top 5.
6 (4) Pittsburgh Steelers1-1Still a few kinks to work out but even with a 42-year old Manning, this team should be in the mix come January.
7 (-) Indianapolis Colts2-0Their defense has been much better, but will now face all the pressure with Luck done for the season.
8 (9) Tampa Bay Buccaneers1-1A big bounce back win by the Bucs over the seemingly helpless Bengals.
9 (10) Baltimore Ravens2-0They may not be considered elite yet, but the Ravens seem to be back after a few years of mediocrity.
10 (-) Dallas Cowboys2-0The offense in the Big D has been clicking through two weeks, propelling the surprising Cowboys atop the NFC East.

Is there a worse way to get your first career start than in Seattle for the home-opener? That exact situation lies ahead of Glenn Ponder who gets the start in place of the injured Philip Rivers to take on the Seahawks and the 12th man. The 'Hawks have struggled early this season, especially with turnovers, but look to get things back on track against the defending champions.

Re: Supercharged | Pt. II (2018-): The Return of the L.A. Chargers

            Chapter One (2018): Week 3

Richard Sherman beats rookie Justice Carter to the ball, creating Seattle's sixth take-away and putting the nail in Chargers' coffin.

            Time to panic?
Ponder struggles and injuries pile up as Bolts lose second straight

AP - The Los Angeles Chargers turned the ball over six times, falling 30-22 to the Seahawks in Seattle. Glenn Ponder, in his first career start, threw five interceptions, overshadowing a three-touchdown performance.

More worrisome for the Chargers, however, is the injuries accumulating on offense. Already without veteran quarterback Philip Rivers, the Chargers lost two more pieces to their offense on Sunday. Star receiver Keenan Allen hurt himself on a touchdown catch in the first quarter. Early reports indicate that Allen aggravated an abdominal injury that kept him out for a month late last season. Later in the half, starting slot receiver Kam Agurs left the game with a shoulder injury after taking a hit over the middle of the field.

Things got off to an awful start for the Chargers when Eddie Lacy fumbled on the first snap of the game, leading to a Seattle touchdown. The Bolts did respond with an impressive 17-play drive that ended in bittersweet fashion: Allen's touchdown and injury.

And things just got worse from there. Ponder threw back-to-back picks on the next two drives. The latter came in the redzone, taking points off the board for the Bolts. Both interceptions led to Seattle points and a 17-7 lead.

In the third quarter, down 24-14, Ponder threw another redzone interception, which seemed to ice the game. Though the Chargers kept fighting until the end, they never fully recovered. Ponder's fourth and fifth interception in the fourth quarter sealed the deal, although the Chargers would later add a last-second touchdown.

Across from the disaster for Ponder and the Chargers was a brilliant game for Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson. Wilson, who had thrown eight interceptions through the Hawks' first two games, did not turn the ball over once, completed 80% of his throws and threw two touchdowns. Receiver Jermaine Kearse was Wilson's go-to receiver all game, catching 163 yards and a score.

The Chargers now finish their tough start to the season at 1-2. Though the team is struggling and has suffered several early injuries, three straight games in the division will give them a chance to get their season and title defense back on track before it spirals completely out of control.

4 (5) New Orleans Saints3-0Arian Foster and sophomore LaQuon McElroy give Brees the best running game he's ever had.
5 (9) Baltimore Ravens3-0The Ravens are putting a statement on the fact that their struggles are over and the AFC North is theirs.
6 (8) Tampa Bay Buccaneers2-1The Falcons and Panthers look inept through three weeks, but the race between the Bucs and Saints for the NFC South will be a good one.
7 (10) Dallas Cowboys3-0Quarterback Lewis Maxwell is the early favorite for OROY, leading the league's top scoring offense so far.
8 (-) Minnesota Vikings2-1A big win over the favored 49ers has the Vikings in the thick of things in the competitive NFC North.
9 (-) Chicago Bears3-0One of the surprising unbeaten teams, largely thanks to Brock Osweiler
10 (-) Oakland Raiders3-0The other surprising unbeaten team who suddenly have a 2-game lead in the AFC West.

                  Game Notes
The suddenly struggling and hurt Chargers return home after a brutal 2-game road trip to take on the surprising AFC West-leading Oakland Raiders. While the Chargers road trip saw them lose two games, their starting quarterback and two of their top three receivers, they will have every chance to get back in the division race with three straight games against AFC West opponents include two against the Raiders. For Oakland, they have stayed unbeaten in 2018 despite the league's worst defense. They hope facing a beat-up L.A. offense will help the unit get on track.

Damn man tough start to the SB defending season losing Rivers and Allen. Then poor Ponder throwing 5 picks to the LoB lol. Tough start. 1-2 aint bad it's not terrible.

But now you gotta look at Ponder this way, sure he threw 5 picks but he also made it rain for almost 300 yards and 3 TDs IN SEATTLE.

See if you can work with him to give him time in the pocket and experience cause if all else fails you still got Yates on the bench..

Ponder is playing like the other Ponder we know...

Good luck in your quest for that repeat, silently followed the first one, hopefully you'll hear from me more often on this thread.

That is very true. Part of the problem too was that I got behind early and stopped running the ball as much. My offense game plan is really meant to be balanced and work the play action as much as possible, so when I got behind plus with the less talent at QB and WR after the injuries plus versus the LoB, it was a recipe for disaster.

                              Chapter One (2018): Week 4

Eddie Lacy breaks into the endzone for his second touchdown of the night to seal the Chargers' victory.

Chargers end skid with tough old-time victory over Raiders

AP - If you're the L.A. Chargers and you've lost two straight games, are missing your starting quarterback and two starting receivers and you're coming off a game in which your backup quarterback threw five interceptions, what do you do? You get back to what you do best: run the ball, play defense and control the tempo. That formula was executed perfectly as the Chargers handed the Oakland Raiders their first loss of the season in convincing fashion, winning 33-7.

The Bolts' game-plan was clear from the opening snaps: they began the game with six straight runs. Eddie Lacy carried the ball a season-high 27 times for his first 100-yard game of the year. Overall, the Chargers ran the ball an astonishing 43 times.

On defense, the Chargers executed equally well. While they gave up some early big runs and a touchdown on Oakland's first drive, the Chargers' defense settled down and snuffed out anything the Raiders tried to muster. Most impressively, they completely blanketed the Raiders' dynamic receiving trio of Brandon Marshall, Percy Harvin and Julian Edelman. The Chargers held the Raiders passing game to only 39 yards all game. In total, the Raiders had only eight first downs and 133 yards with half of those first downs and more than half of the yardage coming on their opening drive.

After Oakland's early touchdown put them up 7-3, the Chargers responded with a long grinding drive that forever put the game in their control. Glenn Ponder, who fared much better in his second start since Philip Rivers' injury, engineered a 14-play drive that culminated in Lacy's first touchdown of the game.

                              The Chargers never looked back.

In the third quarter, up 13-3, they forced a Raiders' fumble on the third play of the half and took ownership of the ball. Of five possessions, they scored on four, and ate up nearly 22 minutes of clock in the half.

Though they are still dealing with significant injuries and only just clawed back to .500, the win is encouraging for the Chargers, as they have now pulled back within one game of the division-leading Raiders. The two teams will meet again in Oakland in two weeks.
