        Week 7&8 Update

Eric Grant (HC) of the Idaho Vandals (SB)
        (3-4)(1-2) L 9-35 @ Georgia Tech (5-1) ; W 27-0 @ UL-Lafayette
        423.6 OYPG (#53) 30.6 PPG
        440.6 DYPG (#101) 41.7 PAPG
Top Performer: Lance Price (K) 3-3 FGM 53 LNG; Benjamin Watkins (WR) 11 Rec 134 ReYds 2 TD

Against a superior opponent in the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the Vandals didn't put up much of a fight as their kicker earned player of the game honors simply for being perfect on the afternoon. It wasn't the kind of performance the Vandals hope for, but against the caliber of opponent they faced it's to be expected.
The Vandals got the better off the .500 Ragin Cajuns and decimated them in a 27-0 beating that will have Eric Grant grinning until Friday! The defense held the Cajuns to just 225 yards of total offense and forced four turnovers, while the Vandals accounted for 410 yards of their own, an easy victory.

Zach Mueller (HC) of the Rice Owls (CUSA)
        (2-4)(1-1) L 27-31 @ UTSA (2-4)
        405.3 OYPG (#67) 27.5 PPG
        397.2 DYPG (#63) 29.5 PAPG
Top Performer: Jeremy Jones (QB) 28-50 362 PaYds 2 TD 1 INT 93 RuYDs

A disappointing season takes another bad turn as the Owls fell to the Road Runners of San Antonio. The UTSA Road Runners came in underdogs and bested the Rice Owls, the two Texas programs battled back and fourth but ultimately the Road Runners pulled off the upset continuing the disappointment of the season for the Owls.

John Valkyrie (HC) of the UL-Monroe Warhawks (SB)
        (3-2)(1-1) W 45-21 @ Southern Miss (3-3)
        455.4 OYPG (#30) 33.2 PPG
        372.4 DYPG (#32) 19.2 PAPG
Top Performer: Anthony Monken (QB) 25-31 350 PaYds 5 Td 58 RuYds

Anthony Monken saw his performance against the Golden Eagles continue to be among the best in the Sunbelt with a five touchdown performance and a near perfect completion percentage, he showed no signs of slowing down from the last week and he has these Warhawks primed for their schedule.

Quinn Retney (HC) of the UMass Minutemen (AMER)
        (4-3)(1-2) W 49-35 vs Virginia (0-6)
        388.1 OYPG (#85) 27.3 PPG
        348.7 DYPG (#18) 20.3 PAPG
Top Performer: Andrew Verboys (QB) 12-14 227 PaYds 2 TD 7 RuYds 1 TD

When this offense runs at it's finest, it is scary, and it hung 49 points on the hapless Cavaliers whom were helpless against hthe Minutemen. Rufus Fagan piled up 148 yards on the ground with a pair of touchdowns while David Gray added 81 yards and another touchdown. Andrew Verboys was nearly perfect in the few passing situations the team had, and even added an extra touchdown on the ground in victory.

Corey Warby (HC) of the Vanderbilt Commodores (SEC)
        (1-6)(1-3) W 34-20 vs Georgia Bulldogs (3-5)
        404.7 OYPG (#68) 26.7 PPG
        509.1 DYPG (#124) 39 PAPG
Top Performer: Ernest Stovall (QB) 21-46 254 PaYds 4 TD 2 INT 98 RuYds

The Commodores finally managed to pick up a win this week, when they took on the Gerogia Bulldogs in a game that saw them jump out to an early lead and after allowing the Bulldogs to take the lead on a Mosely touchdown rush in the second, they would score late in the drive to put up the score that gave them the lead, the lead would be held by the Commodores the rest of the way, piling on in the late parts, doubling up the second half score of the Bulldogs 20-10.

Jamal Frazier (HC) of the Wyoming Cowboys (MWC)
        (2-4)(0-2) W 34-13 vs Colorado State (4-2)
        380.3 OYPG (#95) 23.7 PPG
        418.2 DYPG (#78) 29.2 PAPG
Top Performer: Brian Hill (HB) 176 RuYds 1 TD 32 ReYds

The Cowboys are on a winning streak and pick up a surprising victory over the Big 12 Colorado State Rams, the Rams have now lost two straight after opening at 4-0 and debuting in the polls, the Rams couldn't keep their momentum and are in a free fall. Brian Hill dominated the Rams and exposed a huge hole in this defense.

DiStefano takes off on a read option!

          38 vs 24

Mistakes and miscues surge the Aggies to victory

A costly interception, than a second. One brought back for a touchdown, the other leading to seven. Poor decision making from a potential NFL caliber quarterback and more led to the Rams failures on Saturday as they fell for the third consecutive week after starting out 4-0, the Rams now sit at 4-3 and in danger of tailspinning out of contention for a bowl bid. While the Aggies shook off their own two game losing streak to claim a big victory that has them on the edge of a bowl birth.

The Aggies dominated this one in many ways, 465 yards to just 261, 8-11 for third downs, 83% success rate in the redzone are all just some factors that will make a big difference for the final outcome of this one, but a true testament to the opposition, this team was never too far out. Despite being gashed on all ends of the field.

Erich DiStefano stepped up tremendously, albeit not tossing a touchdown he did go 14-26 for 229 yards, his lone blemish being an illfated interception when he attempted to throw on the run and instead had a lame duck pass float gently in the air and easily be intercepted. DiStefano would also add 99 yards on the ground and a single touchdown, proving himself to be a ground threat as well.

The ground game was the big point of emphasis coming into this one, with the Rams struggling in so many ways against the run, this team just couldn't manage to stave off the Aggies dual pronged attack that saw Justen Hervey go for 122 yards on the ground with a pair of touchdowns, both career highs for the senior back. DiStefano's performance was just icing on the cake.

Hervey earned player of the game honors, but it was a team effort, Gipson had 117 receiving yards while Teofilo Outlaw had the game's lone receiving touchdown late in the game when he broke free and Theo Peterson lofted a clean pass to the freshman.

As it was stated, this game was close throughout despite every other indicator stating it shouldn't of been. The teams traded field goals to open the game. The Rams would capitalize on the first mistakes of the matchup by scooping up a Justen Hervey fumble and bringing it back 28 yards for the score, but that seemed to set off the Aggies who piled on 21 unanswered and ultimately never fell behind again.

It's the second straight year that against the Aggies who are modest at best against the pass weren't tasked with defending the aerial attack that the Rams possessed as they tried to run the ball down the throats of the Aggies who had some struggles but ultimately the ground game wasn't nearly good enough to carry the Rams.

Coleman Key would have a solid day, but with less than inventive play designs and poor execution his abilities were minimalized. He would throw the ball 20 times, completing 65% of his passes with 1 touchdown and a pair of interceptions, one that would be brought back for a touchdown and the other late in the game essentially icing out the clock and leading to the Aggies final score.

Deron Thompson ran the ball 19 times for just 77 yards, he had a solid performance but the Aggies defense was able to keep the blitz on with a lot of drives living and dying by the ground attack, they didn't fear the oppositions aerial attack at all, it would bite them once leading to a huge reception and leading to a Deron Thompson touchdown rush.

The Aggies improve to 5-2 and take on the ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys next week, a victory could see the Aggies make an unexpected leap into the top 25, the Aggies have absolutely out performed expectations but have come out flat (Auburn). Hopefully the Aggies get more of the form that has propelled them to five victories in their first seven.

This may be on hold for a while. My PS3 controller went out and I cannot promise that I'll be able to afford a new one soon. If I can get it fixed or if my PS4 will work fairly well on the PS3 than I can try that, but I know some games won't acknowledge the PS4 controller and I don't know about NCAA.

Plus side is that the PS4 controller does work, expect updates this weekend. Getting our new puppy tonight so I cannot promise they will be tonight. Updates will be sporadic with holidays on the horizon and the new puppy so I do apologize in advance for that!

                Week 9 Update

Eric Grant (HC) of the Idaho Vandals (SB)
                (3-4)(1-3) L 28-38 vs Wyoming (3-4)
                409 OYPG (#66) 30.3 PPG
                445.5 DYPG (#106) 41.1 PAPG
Top Performer: Jake Luton (QB) 12-20 152 PaYds 2 TD 115 RuYds 2 TD

The two Northern rivals did battle in a Mountain West mash up that saw the surging Wyoming Cowboys coached by Jamal Frazier best his Idaho neighbors in a 38-28 victory that served as revenge over last season's defeat. Jake Luton was big despite the loss dominating in both phases of the game but the defense just couldn't back him up.

Zach Mueller (HC) of the Rice Owls (CUSA)
                (3-4)(2-1) W 52-17 vs Tulane (2-5)
                428.4 OYPG (#83) 30.1 PPG
                399.4 DYPG (#63) 27.7 PAPG
Top Performer: Jeremy Jones (QB) 25-34 385 PaYds 4 TD 59 RuYds 2 TD

Talk about beating the frustration. The Rice Owls have struggled through the season but might manage to turn it around with a big victory over the Green Tide they might finally be back on the right track. The Owls Air Raid attack exploded for 52 points on a helpless opponent and this victory starts the Owls trending in the right direction.

John Valkyrie (HC) of the UL-Monroe Warhawks (SB)
                (3-3)(1-2) L 28-35 vs UTEP (1-6)
                443 OYPG (#44) 32.3 PPG
                389.3 DYPG (#43) 21.8 PAPG
Top Performer: Kyle Noble (TE) 6 Rec 89 ReYds 2 TD

Anthony Monken left the game with a shoulder injury and that would be enough to knock out the Warhawks who couldn't rally behind their backup who would manage to toss for a pair of touchdowns but added an interception to just a 46% completion rate. Harrison carried the ball for 103 yards, expected to do more without their star quarterback, but it wouldn't be enough as the Warhawks hope their quarterback will be able to return.

Quinn Retney (HC) of the UMass Minutemen (AMER)
                (4-4)(1-3) L 29-32 @ #12 Purdue (6-1)
                382.5 OYPG (#94) 27.5 PPG
                361.9 DYPG (#22) 21.8 PAPG
Top Performer: Rufus Fagan 36 Carries for 194 Yards 1 TD

The Minutemen defense held the Boilermakers to six field goals but despite this their offense generated enough to offset a tremendous performance from Rufus Fagan who carried the ball a huge amount of times to carry this offensive unit. Oddly despite the ground dominance, the Minutemen were outgained significantly and lost the battle of time possession.

Corey Warby (HC) of the Vanderbilt Commodores (SEC)
                (1-7)(1-4) L 14-35 vs Auburn Tigers (5-3)
                409 OYPG (#74) 25.1 PPG
                499.8 DYPG (#125) 38.5 PAPG
Top Performer: Ronald Monroe (WR) 10 Rec 159 ReYds 1 TD

The Tigers offiically ended any slim hope that the Commodores had of rallying to a bowl birth with a decisive victory. The Commodores struggled and Ernest Stovall was knocked out of the game with a concussion as the Tigers rolled to an easy victory. They did pile on 14 in the final frame to extend this one from a 7 point contest to a rout, the loss of Stovall could've been enough to sway the result.

Jamal Frazier (HC) of the Wyoming Cowboys (MWC)
                (3-4)(1-2) W 38-28 @ Idaho (3-5)
                394.6 OYPG (#85) 25.7 PPG
                402.3 DYPG (#61) 29 PAPG
Top Performer: Nick Smith (QB) 9-11 82 PaYds 1 TD 92 RuYds 2 TD

These Cowboys are surging and continue to do so by besting their northern rivals in a Mountain West battle that earned the Cowboys their first in conference victory of the season. Jamal Frazier has done a lot to turn his team around this season and the ground attack has been terrific for the Cowboys, especially so in this game with over 300 yards churned out.

In a rivalry matchup between the Washington State Cougars and the Idaho Vandals, the Cougars are off to an awful start to the season but picked up just their second victory of the season by virtue of a high scoring offense, thanks to one of the worst defenses in the league playing across from them.

Zach Mueller (HC) of the Rice Owls (CUSA)
                    (3-5)(2-2) L 21-41 @ Mid Tenn State (5-3)

Once more their top quarterback goes down and so do their chances at a victory. The hopes of a conference usa championship are quickly fading and the losses keep piling, the quarterbacks can't stay healthy, the opportunities to win are fading, this season has derailed in a big way.

The Warhawks found a victory from a tried and true method of having Anthony Monken take over the game. Monken is an outside looking in prospect for a NFL draft pick, and performances like this could see Monken competing for a NFL roster.

Top Performer: Ernest Stovall (QB) 17-45 223 PaYds 1 TD 1 INT

The inabilities of Stovall to run this offense definitely has the team seeking to potentially make a move for their quarterback position. Ernest Stovall completed just 37% of his passes, a pitiful performance and adding on his ineffectiveness, expect a potential change with the season lost already.

The Wyoming Cowboys crashed back to earth when they traveled to take on the Rainbow Warriors. The Hawai'i Warriors are having one of their best seasons in recent history and continue to roll, proving to be one of the few contenders to the Aztecs throne. The passing game was non-existant and the ground game yielded yards but not nearly enough scoring.

May I ask who UMass faces to end the season? A bowl definitely seems more and more possible each week. Not only that, but we are truly following the Rich Rod plan for success; lose big, lose close then win close....maybe we can start winning big next year!

U Mass has a tough road to bowl eligibility, 6-6 is a possibility, and you draw your harder matchups at home.

                        For comparison UMass is

Justen Hervey pushes through on Saturday

                          35 vs 28

                          Stunned in Logan

The Cowboys line shrunk as the season went on, a testament to the strength that this Utah State program has fired out of the gates with and have put themselves in the drivers seat for a bid at the Big 12 Championship game and when they play like they have been it's hard to see anyone usurping them.

It certainly wasn't happening in front of their home crowd.

In front of 15,000 of their home faithful, the Aggies delivered a resounding victory over the Cowboys of Oklahoma State that will almost certainly knock the Cowboys from the top 25 but could also put the Aggies into the polls for their first time since moving to the Big 12.

This team has turned around tremendously in just a single season and it rests on the shoulders of their coach who has turned this freshman dominated group into a power, taking advantage of a rather weak season in the Big 12 and has his team primed at a potential championship bid 3-4ths of the way through the season.

Erich DiStefano has been playing like an upper classman and it's hard to see him missing out on any freshman offensive awards, his play has been tremendous, exactly what was needed for Tyler Kozlov's system and the fact that he has a minimum of two more years is just a tremendous boon for this squad which had so much difficulties stemming from this position a year ago, especially given their injuries.

DiStefano was the one that led off the scoring with a long drive that went for six when he took a run outside and bounced off the tackle, going 17 yards for the touchdown and a 7-0 lead, one that they would just pile onto with a screen turned touchdown pass to Justen Hervey, and when the Cowboys knotted it at 14-14 in the second quarter it was Hervey who broke off a huge 67 yard scoring run to swing the lead back to the Aggies.

The second half was a whole new beast however, a slim lead quickly turned to a deficit, with the first score going to the Cowboys on a long drive resulting in a quick touchdown, Erich DiStefano would fumble the ball on a strip sack on the following first down and the Cowboys scored a few short plays later to take the lead.

A lead that would hold most of the way through the quarter but the Aggies would manage to tie it up, once more it was Erich DiStefano who kept on a read option and followed his blockers to get a score and a tied game, instead of falling to the adversity, the Aggies rose to the occasion.

Midway through the fourth, the offense pushed hard, forcing the Cowboys back, nearer and nearer to the goalline, but on the goalline the offense stalled, two straight runs ended at the line and Justen Hervey looked gassed, the call for a playaction came on with Teofilo Outlaw in the backfield, rolling out Erich DiStefano connected with fellow newcomer Jonathon Saunders for the game winning touchdown.

There would still be three and a half minutes remaining and the Cowboys would go three and out quickly before forcing a quick three and out of their own. Castillo was barely utilized in the aerial attack, and the quarterback couldn't make the magic happen, having a mediocre performance in the backfield, the Cowboys who went for over 200 on the ground found their ground game couldn't be relied on, and the air attack wasn't enough, they would fall.

The crowd went to a roar as the clock struck 0:00, the fans on their feet celebrating the biggest victory of the season to date, and with another tough matchup looming, the Aggies won't have much time to celebrate, if this miracle season is to continue, they need to be prepared for the Wildcats next season.

The Aggies rise to 6-2, with a tough game next week, while the Cowboys lose for just the second time, but both losses have come in conference play, which makes it difficult for them to have a shot at their division. Especially if the Aggies remain in play. Kansas State appears to be their last divisional obstacle. A date with #5 Texas Christian will be a big opportunity for this team to make a statement, a victory there could have the Aggies eying a New Years Six Bowl.

                              Cary Ryan takes off!

                              10 vs 16

Battle of the Backups: Five star prospect wins

Both starting quarterbacks would leave this battle between two top teams in the Big 12 conference and when it came down to it, the star freshman would come out on top in a huge way, leading his team to a victory over the opportunistic Utah State side which seemed to derail completely after freshman sensation Erich DiStefano left the game with a PCL Strain in the second quarter. On the opposite Cary Ryan left the game after leading two touchdown drives in the first quarter, it'd end up being all that they would need as the Wildcat earned player of the game honors despite just one quarter of play.

That was an absolute testament to his abilities, he was absolutely dominant in his ground attack between the read option and taking off on designed runs and just simply scrambling, Cary Ryan left his impact on the field, the Wildcats ran all over the opposition, especially with Ryan at the helm, Ryan ran for 87 yards and a score, while completing his only pass for a twenty yard gain. Ryan was an absolute headache, and while injuries are a not so desirable part of the game, the defensive coordinator likely let out a sigh of relief when it was announced he wouldn't return. Kevin Atkins wasn't nearly the headache, the highly touted prospect rushed for just 20 yards while completing 76% of his passes for just 66 yards and a touchdown and interception. Atkins would cap off the drive started by Cary Ryan with a touchdown.

Teofilo Outlaw was responsible for the only touchdown for the Aggies on this afternoon, the freshman took over for Justen Hervey and took a handoff cleanly up the middle for an easy score, Outlaw has seen his touches decrease but he has still proven to be fairly effective and entirely ready for this team to be his next season.

The passing game was atrocious for the Aggies, Erich DiStefano looked rattled, the pressure almost always got to him forcing poor passes, going just 6-14 for only 67 yards and an interception (albeit a tremendous play by the defense causing the INT). Theo Peterson showed a lot of issues he had last season where his effectiveness passing was limited to the short and intermediate, and especially so late with his team down which caused a lot of issues. Theo Peterson is largely a halfback wearing a quarterback's guise. It showed today and likely costed the Aggies this game, in fact late after three errant throws that cost the Aggies decent to tremendous gains, Kozlov sent in George King (who went 0-2 early in the game when Peterson was hurt), and King connected on a long 26 yard pass on the final play of the game, but the wide out would be stuffed at the five to end the game.

The Wildcats jumped out a 13-0 lead, thanks to Cary Ryan leading his troops downfield on consecutive drives, but due to his injury, he would account for only one score, while Kevin Atkins was responsible for the other, a missed extra point would move it to 13-0. The Aggies would score on a dive up the middle by Teofilo Outlaw in the second quarter. A pair of field goals in the second half, from each team would be the final scores. A missed opportunity in the third quarter, where the Aggies turned the ball over on four downs likely could've caused this game to goto overtime, but with the injury to Erich DiStefano, the coaching staff wanted to try and put the ball into the endzone with the ball as close as it was.

It was a bitter pill to swallow and this could easily be the end of their hopes to win their division, especially if the Wildcats win out, but it has been a tremendous year for the Aggies who are playing in a division where virtually every team is either bowl eligible or a game away from earning that rank. These Aggies have stemmed the tide and get two easy games and a tough matchup against TCU to close out the season.

                                Week 11 Update

Eric Grant (HC) of the Idaho Vandals (SB)
                                (4-6)(2-4) W 38-28 vs New Mexico
                                424.3 OYPG (#51) 32.5 PPG
                                460.5 DYPG (#114) 41 PAPG
Top Performer: Bradley Mack (HB) 88 RuYds 3 TD 9 ReYds

The Vandals rolled out to an early lead by piling on 24 first half points, leading 24-7 in the highest deficit of the game, they would stave off the Lobos attempts to come back, as New Mexico couldn't rally. Mack came up stronger, with a career day with a trio of scores.

Zach Mueller (HC) of the Rice Owls (CUSA)
                                (4-5)(3-2) W 45-31 vs Florida Atlantic (4-5)
                                437.9 OYPG (#41) 31.4 PPG
                                428.8 DYPG (#84) 30 PAPG
Top Performer: Lance Wright (WR) 18 Rec 316 ReYds 3 TD

A career day from their wide receiver was enough to power them past Jeff Driskel and the Florida Atlantic Owls. The Florida transfer was a capable player, having a solid performance for the Owls but the performance by Lance Wright is tremendous and powered them to victory.

John Valkyrie (HC) of the UL-Monroe Warhawks (SB)
                                (4-4)(2-3) L 31-32 @ Arkansas State (6-3)
                                445.3 OYPG (#33) 33 PPG
                                310.6 DYPG (#10) 24 PAPG
Top Performer: Anthony Monken (QB) 23-32 321 PaYds 4 TD 2 INT 52 RuYds

This one ended up being a tough one to stomach for the Warhawks. A 31-20 lead disappatated into a 32-31 defeat in the final six minutes of the game. A difficult fall for this squad who wanted to turn in a victory.

Quinn Retney (HC) of the UMass Minutemen (AMER)
                                (4-5)(1-4) L 14-42 vs Syracuse (6-3)
                                371.7 OYPG (#103) 26 PPG
                                369.1 DYPG (#24) 24 PAPG
Top Performer: Rufus Fagan 37 Carries for 204 RuYds 1 TD

The normal staunt Minutemen defense was devastated on all offensive fronts, as the Syracuse offense piled up a huge 587 yards upon the opposition while allowing just 297, most of that coming from fullback Rufus Fagan. The Minutemen are hoping to eke out a bowl birth but need to win 2 of 3 to reach that goal.

Corey Warby (HC) of the Vanderbilt Commodores (SEC)
                                (1-9)(1-6) L 51-14 @ #1 Florida Gators (9-0)
                                379.3 OYPG (#98) 22.9 PPG
                                503.3 DYPG (#125) 40 PAPG
Top Performer: Tre Tarpley (FS) 3 Tackles 2 INT 1 DTD

The aspirations of this team to best the Gators were slim to none, next to no one expected a victory. Needless to say, the blowout defeat shocked no one, battling the best team in the country, they weren't upset minded. and while Vanderbilt kept it close early, by the second quarter the game was a rout.

Jamal Frazier (HC) of the Wyoming Cowboys (MWC)
                                (4-5)(2-3) W 38-10 vs Tulsa Golden Hurricanes
                                397.7 OYPG (#82) 26.1 PPG
                                399.8 DYPG (#58) 28 PAPG
Top Performer: Brian Hill (HB) 203 RuYds 1 TD 3 Rec 28 ReYds

Brian Hill ran all over the Hurricanes, as the Cowboys piled up a big victory over a historically strong program. The Cowboys could sneak into a bowl game with an easy end to the year.
