Teofilo Outlaw splits the defense for a touchdown

Defense continues to step up as Aggies roll Huskies
Northern Illinois had an iffy season a year ago that was far from where their recent history suggested them to be, and the Huskies are still on the slow climb back up the American ladder and with teams improving in the American conference that could take longer for them, and by falling to 1-2 to start the season the hopes of a bowl bid slip further away.

Tyler Kozlov picked up his first win in two tries against the Huskies, previously he was at Akron when his team lost to the Dekalb based program, now he fields the Aggies who now sit at an improbable 3-0 and are looking to the start of their Big 12 schedule with a whole lot of momentum behind themselves to boot.
Erich DiStefano had a good game, especially so for a freshman signal caller completing 15 of his 24 while tossing 179 yards and a pair of touchdowns, he didn't need to be tremendous for the Aggies to win, the defense saw to that, but he did enough to keep the offense on the field and the chains moving. Joining the freshman spree was Teofilo Outlaw who posted a career high 158 rushing yards and a lone touchdown which came on a huge 72 yard pitch in the second quarter.

"These boys are just freshman or sophomores, we have a few juniors and even fewer seniors on the field every Saturday, this team has a lot of youth and just imagine down the road the amount of development this team will receive. We've won our first three and while we can't pretend to believe that running the table is a possibility at this point, it's something we can look at in the future, especially with the players we have coming in."
Tyler Kozlov had a lot of reason to be optimistic that his players have a bright future ahead of themselves.
Yet looking at this one, it easily could've been much closer, the Huskies defense did a pretty solid job through the game of keeping the Aggies out of the end zone, but big plays including a good return gave the Aggies the opportunities for either short yardage or simply long touchdowns, looking alone at the Teofilo Outlaw touchdown run, it appeared they had the freshman stamped out in the backfield only to see him zip and weave through the defense for a tremendous score. That would be the second score of the day, the first a pass to Jonathon Saunders on a short route to put the first points on the board.
Spencer Brady was a brief highlight clip for the Huskes, the halfback only got a pair of carries on the afternoon but probably should've gotten more. His first going for a hard fought 10 yards, before he managed to break free for a 14 yard touchdown carry, the lone Huskie touchdown of the afternoon, and he looked extremely comfortable back there, but he wouldn't see the field again.
The Aggies got a big kick return following the touchdown and managed to push the ball downfield, getting into the red zone and on third and goal chose an option with quarterback Erich DiStefano keeping the ball and charging up field for the score. A 21-7 halftime lead would hold until late in the game where a busted up run turned into a play action that was zipped out to Marcus Mosely for the senior's first touchdown of the season.
"I want to get Mose more involved, he's a tremendous player and can be a difference maker, we may look to involve him as a receiver in some of our five or four wide sets that don't call for tight ends so we can feed him the ball some more, he is a big talent."
The Aggies improve to 3-0 on the season after their victory at Brigham Field in DeKalb, with their next matchup against an 0-3 Texas Longhorn squad that has some ugly losses to Maryland (35-45), USC (28-47) and UCF (26-56). The Longhorns look helpless and the Aggies, would love nothing more than to take a win over the storied program.
