    Week 13 Review

The Bruins are just a week away from concluding this season undefeated and LSU appears primed to join them atop the polls as 1 and 2, both squads just continue to win, while the top 7 largely remained unchanged, aside from the odd fact that Michigan State leap frogged the Ohio State Buckeyes after their victory this week.

Trevor Knight may very well go on to win the heisman this season and he has had a spectacular year that is deserving of the award. Sadly it'll be mere consolation for a team that dropped it's matchup to Iowa State and jointly dropped from the polls so far that they won't even be close to a mention for a BCS bid. Especially not after this week, the unranked Wildcats of Kansas State battled the Sooners in what became a shoot out, luckily the heisman frontrunner was on the Sooner's side and his tremendous performance propelled the Sooners to the top.

Georgia Tech continue it's climb back up the polls after an earlier season upset shocked them down the polls as quickly as they had climbed. This week, they took care of the Virginia Tech Hokies, the ranked Hokies were projected as 3 point underdogs but the Yellow Jackets beat the spread by winning by 13 over their ACC rivals.

Michigan State continued the Gophers "dive", the Golden Gophers might've earned the award for smallest drop ever in the polls from a two game losing streak. The Spartans victory propelled them over the Buckeyes in the latest polls, surprising almost everyone, but the B1G championship will determine whom will go to the playoffs.

LSU nearly fell from the top 2 and caused near total anarchy when the Tigers took on the Auburn Tigers. LSU came in a two touchdown favorite and needed a 10 point rally in the fourth quarter to overcome an opportunistic Auburn squad that forced four turnovers and stiffled Leonard Fournette to just 57 rushing yards, one of his lowest totals of the season.

      Coaching Recap
      Week 13 Edition

The coaches first years are a week away from being completed and it's been made official that no coach will go bowling this season. With Massachusetts having yet another week of downtime before their season finale against Northern Illinois, the spotlight was on for Wyoming and Arkansas State.

Wyoming had a tough battle in front of themselves and managed to hold their own. Against the ranked Boise State Broncos, the Cowboys managed to pile up an impressive amount of time with the ball, accounting for over half the game with the ball in their offensive unit's hands. Sadly that wouldn't amount to much when the Broncos scored quickly and efficiently when they touched the ball. The Broncos offense was too much for this defense to handle and they caved.

Down south, there was a bit of a shocker in Arkansas, the Ragin Cajuns (5-6) came in as a three point favorite but proceeded to dismantle the Red Wolves. Piling up over 500 offensive yards while allowing just 250 on the offensive end, this was an unexpected game from two teams fighting for a bowl birth. John Valkyrie was fuming after the game citing his teams inability to capitalize and limit mistakes as key factors in the defeat.

          4 OT Thriller in Kentucky!

The game that refused to end! The season finale put the books on one of the worst seasons in recent history for Bowling Green while the Zips are looking forward to their first ever MAC Championship. Bowling Green falls to 2-10 on the season, a year after a strong finish to the season and a MAC championship. The mighty have fallen, but they put up a fight in what ultimately was a meaningless game for both squads, other than to serve as an extra win for the Zips.

Akron came in as a two touchdown favorite, the preseason spread changed rapidly as the season drew on and Bowling Green proved to be anything but what we expected them to be, and there definitely will be some finger pointing going on at the Kentucky based program which figured to be a key player in the MAC but ultimately was anything but.

          At least until this game.

Both years, the teams in this matchup had locked up the bid to represent the MAC East, this time it was the Akron Zips earning that honor to take on the Indiana Hoosiers for the MAC Championship and extend the Hoosiers losing streak to two in the championship game.

This game actually started ugly for the Akron Zips, whom came off a dominating performance against their rivals, expectations were higher for this team, but they couldn't perform at that level yet again. The Zips offense just couldn't produce early in this one, sauntering out of the gates as an oddly charged Bowling Green squad wanted to send their seniors out with a victory in front of the home crowd.

It definitely appeared they had the game safely in hand as the Zips offense sputtered and was largely inefficient and entirely incapable. At least through most of the first half. Tommy Woodson tossed an interception and fumbled away a ball for two early turnovers that led to ten points for the Falcons. Bowling Green appeared to hold a 16-0 lead into the half but that all changed after a solid kick return. Woodson rolled out of the pocket and found Jeff Parker streaking and hooked up with the senior receiver for the touchdown. A pitch and catch to Jordan Matthews made the score 8-16 as the team sought to tie the game.

In the third quarter, the lone score would be a touchdown on a long pass from Tommy Woodson to Fransohn Bickley on a curl route that would see the wide out break free for the touchdown. A stunning play that tied the game, with Tommy Woodson keeping the ball on an option to punch it in. The big story of the game is Bowling Green State Kicker, James McCutcheon (FR) missed the extra point early in the game and proceeded to miss a pair of 30 yard field goals in the third quarter, which led the Falcons to entirely ignore special teams through the rest of the game.

The Zips took a 16-16 tie into the fourth quarter, where the Falcons managed to get ahead despite an injury to James Knapke that knocked him out of the fourth quarter, back up Clayton Nicholas finished the drive Knapke started and hooked up with Roger Lewis for a touchdown. Gehrig Dieter was knocked out of the game early which undoubtedly hurt their passing attack. The Zips offense seemed to be fine however, on their next drive the Zips would drive downfield behind their ground attack, with Tommy Woodson gaining 34 yards, Darian Green 17 and J.T. Blyden 28 yards, including 9 on the touchdown scamper that tied the game at 23 a piece.

The Zips forced a turnover to get the ball right back and when they did, they expected to win the game. Driving downfield quickly, the Zips moved the ball using the pass attack to move the ball, and when Jeff Parker stepped out for a breather, in came Clarence Fitzpatrick, who took a beautiful pass up the middle and fought through three tacklers to make the go ahead touchdown. Tommy Woodson charging downfield with his hands up in the air, the Zips definitely thought they won.

It appeared they had too, going all the way to fourth and fifteen with only 2 seconds remaining from 49 yards out. Dropping back Clayton Nicholas broke a tackle on an attempted sack and rolled out lobbing up the hail mary, Deon Elridge would swat it away, but the ball had enough loft to be scooped up by Jermal Hesley who rolled into the end zone as he caught it, his team mates celebrating around him as the Falcons pulled off the miracle play.

Overtime was a whole new beast, and it appeared the Falcons had the upper hand, on second down, flushing Woodson from the pocket, he threw a pass that would be picked off in a diving display that sent the crowd into a roar, just a field goal would be needed, and after picking up a first down to get the ball to the thirteen, it appeared they would win, but a sack on James Knapke shot them back all the way to the 24, and two incompletions later and out came the kicker, and the ball would sail wide right. 1-4 on the day, the Zips would have another shot.

The second overtime would be yet another pair of scoreless frames as both teams would stall from the initial line of scrimmage and fall on fourth down, making the game head to a third. Bowling Green started with the ball and ended up knotting in a clean field goal, the kicker now 2-5 on the day. The Zips wouldn't get much yardage but Tom O'Leary answered with an easy field goal of his own to send the game to a fourth overtime.

The Zips offense shot out quickly, scoring in just three plays, a short completion, than on a pitch to the outside, J.T. Blyden managed to turn the corner and pick up 13. Than it was J.T. Blyden who took a pitch for the score to make it 39-33. The conversion play was a triple option and Darian Green punched it up the middle to make it 41-33.

The Falcons offense would score on fourth down, yet again in the final moments as James Knapke rolled away from pressure and hit Klingerman, who brushed off a tackle and stomped his way into the end zone, the crowd roared for a moment than went dead silent as the team lined up in it's big set. The Zips would push through the line at the snap and it would be Jordan Clark making the stop at the one to send the Zips to Indianapolis with the victory.

The Akron Zips (9-3) improved to (8-1) in conference play this season, with an extremely impressive record and a 8 game winning streak on top of it all. The Zips will face the team responsible for their previous loss in the Indiana Hoosiers for the MAC Championship.

            Week 14 Review

Another week and down goes another unbeaten and rivalry week definitely had it's share of upsets to talk about this week. LSU, South Carolina, Michigan, and Northwestern all fell this week, although only one wouldn't be considered an upset by any means, it definitely sets the landscape for the first inaugural playoffs.

Starting off with the biggest upset, the Arkansas Razorbacks took care of the LSU Tigers in what will definitely be the second biggest upset (behind Florida State's ouster at the hands of Boston College!) of the season. The Razorbacks did so by staving off Leonard Fournette and ultimately shutting down the Tigers in overtime to knock in the game winning field goal, as their fans stormed the field to celebrate the victory.

South Carolina got embarrassed by the Clemson Tigers. The Tigers (unranked) beat the Birds by 10 points, when South Carolina would've been in prime position to contend for the title, they were unable to keep their streak alive and fell to the Tigers whose offense churned out 450 yards in the battle of the Palmetto State.

Cardale Jones tossed for 300 and rushed for another 100 as the Buckeyes knocked off their hated rivals in Michigan, Ann Arbor was packed for this contest, which had returned to national recognition after some years of futility between the programs. Jones made his case for his team to be in the playoffs, and now just a conference championship stands in their way of a playoffs birth.

Illinois did their part to prevent any controversies surrounding the B1G getting multiple teams into the first playoff, by beating the Wildcats of Northwestern in overtime 31-24. The Wildcats came out flat and had to rally to just tie the game, but the Illini had other plans, as Illinois whom picks up a second big upset conclude their season with a big victory over their inter-state rival.

              Coaching Recap
              Week 14

The regular season has come to an end, as have our coaches first season. While a more indepth look at each coaches season will follow, it's time to look at the final week of action for each team as they look forward to what should be an eventful offseason for each team.

Starting with the victors, Eric Grant saw his Wyoming Cowboys rally against their rivals in Idaho to claim a victory. The Vandals had a 31-26 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but a touchdown and pair of field goals saw the Cowboys rally beyond the Vandals. Their halfback stepped up in a big way to pile up 136 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns to earn player of the game honors.

At Arkansas State, they took on the (9-3) Texas State Bobcats and the result was as you would expect it to be, the offense struggled to get much of anything going for them and the defense just couldn't keep up with the spread attack that the Bobcats put on the field. Texas State put up almost 600 yards of offense on the Red Wolves, and that would prove to be just too much for them to overcome.

Finally, at Massachusetts, the Minutemen took on their division champions, Northern Illinois in the final game of the season and although they didn't win, they put up a tremendous fight and somehow managed to only score 7 despite their halfback Abrokwah piling up a school record 288 rushing yards and a lone (89 yard) touchdown rush. The Minutemen have a two season long losing streak, but there are positives and Quinn Retney is turning this program around, expect that streak to end next season.

                2016 Conference Championship Previews

                American
                vs
Northern Illinois Huskies (7-5)(6-3) vs #10 SMU Mustangs (11-1)(8-1)
                Previous Meeting: SMU 30 @ NIU 29
This will mark the second meeting between the two teams in the 2016 season. Last time it was the Mustangs coming away with a one point victory over the Northern Illinois Huskies earlier in the season. The Mustangs have been carried by a crippling defense joined with a strong ground game led by Patrick Line. Line has rushed for 1397 yards on the season and added 14 touchdowns on the ground. Nick Horton has 4 interceptions and has been a ball hawking safety for the Mustangs who've had an unbelievable season by all standards, hoping to climb inside of the top 10 with a victory over Northern. The Huskies led similarly by a good ground attack, Keith Harris Jr. spurs the most carries for this offensive unit, his 1178 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns have helped the Huskies thus far this season, but it's a down year for the DeKalb program, and it's unlikely they claim their first American title.

                ACC
                vs
#17 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (9-3)(7-2) vs #7 Florida State Seminoles (11-1)(8-1)
Famous Jameis takes the field for the final time as a Seminole in ACC play, and who else will he take on than the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Winston is a heisman candidate and will look to further solidify his candidacy with a strong performance in this game. Last week against Florida he stepped up for a trio of touchdown passes. Delvin Cook has been solid in the backfield, rushing for 787 yards and 12 touchdowns, although the Seminoles haven't had to lean on him much this season. Eddie Lane is the big target that the Yellow Jackets will have to stop, his 1000+ receiving yards and 73 targets made him the top wideout on the Seminoles and a clear threat in this contest. Georgia Tech is coming in off a tough loss to their rival, Georgia in the season finale that spelled a lower ranking for them after a rather disappointing season. Georgia Tech at 9-3 had title aspirations coming in but losses to Virginia, Miami and Georgia all ended that. Ironically, Georgia was the lone loss against a team above .500. Justin Thomas is a talent in the option offense and should do enough to keep the Seminoles off balance, but not enough to claim victory.

                B1G
                vs
                #16 Northwestern Wildcats (9-3)(5-3) @ #3 Michigan State Spartans (10-2)(7-1)
Michigan State takes home the honors for a division that featured several standouts. Sadly for one division, there could only be one representative, so Ohio State, Minnesotta, Michigan? Sorry! All in all, the Northwestern Wildcats come in ranked #5 in the conference but could claim the title with an upset over the Spartans. The Wildcats are coming in off an upset from their instate rivals, Illinois. That spoiled what was otherwise a terrific season for the Wildcats. Thorson and Jackson proved to be a tremendous backfield duo, with Thorson piling up 2198 passing yards and 25 touchdowns to just 6 interceptions. Thorson has done great at managing the game and ensuring no turnovers to keep his side alive. Jackson on the other hand has been their work horse, fighting for yardage across the board but with just 6 touchdowns, that is the lone blemish on this season for the back. For the Spartans, forcing turnovers, would be a key step in the victory. The Spartans will need Hicks (7 INT) to step up and force some more against this Wildcat's squad. O'Connor hasn't been living up to the levels of Connor Cook, but O'Connor has his team in position to make the playoffs. However, this game is one that hs an upset alert written all over it.

                Big 12
                vs
                Texas Longhorns (8-4)(6-3) @ #5 Oklahoma Sooners (11-1)(8-1)
Oklahoma appeared ready to take a shot at the title game as they rolled through the season with a heisman front runner at quarterback. Winning against the defending national champions in Week 2was big, and routing Tulsa and Alabama just further showed what they are capable of. The window of opportunity might be closing though, with quarterback Trevor Knight and top wideout Dorial Green-Beckham both making the leap to the NFL this season, this would be the last hurrah for a tremendous passing attack. The Sooners are far from their days of a dominating ground attack, in fact their leading rusher has just 642 yards. He has averaged just 38 yards per game over the past three games. It's going to come down to this defense and pass attack to claim victory for the Oklahoma Sooners on this day. They take on none other than their hated rivals in a Red River Shootout, Tyrone Swoopes carried this Longhorn team all season, with just shy of 2000 passing yards and 19 touchdowns to 9 interceptions, he also was the teams leading rusher as well. The Longhorns can hope to make a few big plays, but it's hard to imagine the Sooners falling in this one.

                Conference USA
                vs
                Navy Midshipmen (8-4)(7-2) @ #21 Tulsa Golden Hurricane (10-2)(8-1)
                Previous Meeting: Tulsa 34 @ Navy 30
Tulsa and NAvy meet for the second time this season with the Midshipmen hoping for a different result than last time. It'll take a lot however, as the Golden Hurricane come in with a tremendous season behind them. A loss to Tulane is their lone blemish that looks bad on their resume, a loss (albeit a rout) to Oklahoma is nothing to be ashamed of for this Conference USA squad. Tulsa took care of both service programs in the Conference USA and there is no reason for anyone to believe it'd be any different in this contest. John Flanders continues to be the workhorse back in the backfield, but the big improvement is their quarterback play from Evans whom has been posting elite numbers this season. This duo looks too strong for the Midshipmen to contain. The Midshipmen benefits from a weak schedule, and with losses to teams like Pitt (6-6), it's hard to imagine this team being anything more than a champion of scheduling. Smith has done an excellent job as a passer in this option offense, while Craft has been a little above average in action. McCloud has had a tremendous season for a wideout, especially so for a Navy wideout, and that'll be the key to keeping this game close as the first matchup was.

                Mid-American
                vs
                Akron Zips (9-3)(8-1) @ #24 Indiana Hoosiers (9-3)(8-1)
                Previous Meeting: Indiana 19 @ Akron 14
A pair of 9-3 MAC heavyweights do battle in Detroit, both teams are either ranked or on the cusp of being so. Akron is playing for their first MAC Championship since 2005, while Indiana is looking for their first ever MAC Championship. Indiana has played two consecutive MAC Championship appearances, and it's obvious they are hungry to bring a trophy home from this contest. The Zips are 0-2 against Indiana since their move to the MAC, including a rout a season ago and a rough loss earlier this season. The Zips offense should be bolstered from the likely return of Chandler Kincade, whom had an above average season with 15 touchdowns and 2026 passing yards, his interception totals are heavily inflated from early season contests against top of the NCAA squads. The big story is the resurgence of this teams ground game, a facet of their offense that didn't exist in the matchup against the Hoosiers previously. J.T. Blyden ended the season with 815 rushing yards after having just 170 after four games. The turnaround is tremendous, and with Jeff Parker lining up, this team is a threat for forty against most offenses. On the defensive end, Ahmad Watts headlines the defense which will look to continue where it left off, punishing opposing offenses (excluding the recent matchup against Bowling Green). Watts leads the team with 9 sacks and is a finalist for the Linebacker of the year award. A high honor for the Sophomore. For Indiana Nate Boudreau returns for the team, Boudreau had 2649 passing yards on the season with 19 touchdowns and just 9 interceptions. Myles Graham had 838 rushing yards, and while he hasn't stepped up as much as Tevin Coleman had, he has been more than sufficient in the MAC. The Hoosiers, struggled mightily early, as did the Zips, with losses to Wake Forest (6-6) and Western Kentucky (9-3) to start their season at 1-2 before destroying the Bowling Green State Falcons in a rematch of last years MAC Championship that saw them finish winning all but one, a loss to Buffalo 27-28 was their lone defeat in MAC play, while the Zips will look to avenge their lone loss in this one.

                Mountain West
                vs
                Nevada Wolfpack (7-5)(6-3) @ #4 Brigham Young Cougars (11-1)(8-1)
                Previous Meeting: Nevada 21 @ BYU 38
The question remains if Brigham Young can be beaten in Mountain West play. Aside from a lone stunner against San Diego State, the Cougars have won all but one game in Mountain West action over the past two seasons. An impressive run should expect to continue as the Nevada Wolfpack come to play. The Cougars are in prime position for a playoff birth and a victory would likely guarantee that birth. Taysom Hill returns for his final campaign under center and while it wasn't as phenomenal as last year's, he still has proven to be more than competent this season. Hill will lead his Cougars out against Calloway and this Wolfpack defense. The big point of emphasis for this one is if the Cougars can hold Butler to under 100 yards, or at the very least limit the halfbacks impact. On the other end, can the Wolfpack pressure Taysom Hill and force him to be error prone and limit his yardage?

                Pacific 12
                vs
                #18 California Bears (9-3)(7-2) @ #1 UCLA Bruins (12-0)(9-0)
                Previous Meeting: Cal 28 @ UCLA 35
California teams will battle once again for the Pacific 12 crown. The Bruins conclude their season looking to lock up the top seed for the playoffs. A loss would knock them right up and introduce a level of chaos in the final week of action. The Bruins have been one of the most well rounded and dominant teams we've seen in recent history. Jerry Neuheisel has been tremendous at the quarterback position, but a lack of gaudy numbers saw him fall from Heisman contention, while Paul Perkins has been dominant as a halfback. Evan Vanderdoes 32 tackles (team high) and 4 sacks have been a big boon for this defense. California will lean on Jeff Goff to lead his troops. Goff has been thriving as a game manager and will need to do a little extra to get his team beyond their in state rivals. They are just too good to be beaten by a mild effort from this offense, they will need to churn out a lot to pull off the upset, or their average at best defense will need to step up in big ways to get the win for the Bears. Expect the Bruins to claim a win in this one, and head into the playoffs with the top seed.

                SEC
                vs
                #19 Tennessee Volunteers(9-3)(8-1) @ #9 LSU Tigers (11-1)(8-1)
This is an unexpected matchup for the SEC title, with Tennessee absolutely dominating the SEC in play this year, a rather unexpected advent from this team which was expected to be middle of the pack in the SEC at best. Inversely, the LSU Tigers were expected to be towards th etop, but to run through their season as they did was a tremendous feat, and while their lone loss eliminated them from playoff contention they have a lot to be proud of this season. This team will live and die by Leonard Fournette, Fournette is a huge talent that will likely look to the pros within this offseason or next. The Tigers need him to have a huge game to best these Vols whom are coming in hungry for a SEC Championship. The Bayou Bengals pass attack hasn't been much and it's unlikely to change today either. Tennessee ranks in the top third of passing offenses, and that'll cause more than enough problems for them. On the other end, the Volunteers bring forth the best offense in the SEC helmed by Peterman and Hurd, Hurd rushed for 1521 yards this season and Peterman is tossing scores at a 27-6 ratio. If the Vols can hold off this ground attack, the Tigers could fall for a second time this season.

                Sunbelt
                vs
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (9-3)(6-3) @ Texas State Bobcats (9-3)(8-1)
Western Kentucky will look to take a victory in the second ever(and second consecutive) Sunbelt championship game. The Hilltoppers came in high last year and were embarrassed by New Mexico State. Don't expect this team to overlook these Bobcats quite as easily. Andrew Wales fell just shy of 1000 rushing yards this season, but has been tremendous in the red zone, with Jones getting the team downfield, Wales has been punching the ball in with ease, and that one two punch will be something to keep an eye on, and when Wales isn't cutting it, Thomas Taylor has been a threat in the redzone, with 11 touchdown receptions, he will remain a threat. Texas State exploded for a tremendous season, even though it had been unexpected, the Bobcats are the hot team in the Sunbelt right now. Besides a stretch against Texas Tech and New Mexico State, these Bobcats have won every game since September 12th, and a ten point loss to Florida State is never something to worry about. This will be one of the better contested championship week games. The Hilltoppers are the slim favorites.

Parker, Zips take the MAC Championship

The big news at the start of the night that saw the spread slide in favor of the Hoosiers was that Chandler Kincade would be held out of this matchup in favor of Tommy Woodson due to lingering complications of his turf toe. Immediately, upon the announcement many saw the Hoosiers as favorites, after all a seemingly middling offense wouldn't be able to keep up with the MAC Elite. There was no way that could happen!

In stepped senior, Jeff Parker. Parker came in second in the nation for receiving yards and left a solid leader on that accolade, albeit well out of the race for the Bilentikoff award. His biggest award would be the one presented to the team at the end of the night, their second ever MAC Championship, and another trophy to join their trophy case with last year's bowl victory still shown proudly in the football offices. This one was special however.

"You hear the talk, the buzz and how the whiplash of his injury was. Analysts attacked him, saying that the leader has to play, but at the end of the day, his health is what matters, and against the caliber of opponent we were facing why would I put in a quarterback that wouldn't be able to move in the pocket, let alone put much pressure on his foot play in a contact sport. It's immoral, I'm here to raise champions, but not at the longterm risk of their health. I'll never second guess that decision. Win or lose, this team fought their ***** off this year, and I fully believe that we can take the championship with the team on the field."

Tyler Kozlov had his team riled up in the opening minutes, the coach had his team playing for just their second ever MAC Championship, a year after being snubbed in the second to last game thanks to a poor play that saw them fall to Kent State. There was a clear fire for this team, and they weren't going to let up.

That'd explain the 21-0 run that the Zips went on to open the game. Jeff Parker opened this game with a big reception that sent the Zips quickly downfield, already setting the pace in this performance, the big reception set up the read option offense inside of the red zone. Darian Green would be the first score of the afternoon when he got to scoot to the outside with the ball for the score. The Akron faithful that had shown up to the game went into a roar, something that would just continue to grow as the team's switched possession following the kickoff. Nate Boudreau dropped back and his wayward pass would be intercepted on a perfectly executed play by the defense that put the Zips just outside of the redzone. J.T. Blyden would score on a stretch to the outside when he managed to turn the corner and outrun his opposition into the endzone. Quickly it was 14-0 and the ball was going back to the Hoosiers, with the Zips already building up a tide of momentum.

The Hoosiers would finally get an answer as Nate Boudreau would heat up, clipping off his targets efficiently as he went perfectly downfield, Nate Boudreau found Simmie Cobbs for the first score for the Hoosiers, and giving Indiana some hope early, something they would quickly be without, a 14-7 score heading into the second quarter was about to greatly change.

A quick score was made when Tommy Woodson aided by the ground game and Jordan Matthews led his squad down the field in rapid succession, before returning to the senior, Jeff Parker on a quick out route with the senior coming up big with the reception for a touchdown. A fumble later and the Zips were back in business, Akron scored rapidly after the interception when Tommy Woodson hit Jeff Parker on a deep pass for the touchdown, his second of the evening and a 28-7 lead. Just to make matters worse for the Hoosiers, on the following drive, Jerome Lane would reel in an ill advised short pass from Nate Boudreau and bring it back all the way for the touchdown and a 35-7 lead.

The Zips fans were in a roar, the sideline was animated and with just two minutes left in the half, they felt unbeatable. Yet, the wind did get let from their sails, thanks to the following play being a huge pass from Nate Boudreau to Andrew Campbell, Campbell caught the slant and proceeded to take advantage of a collision between Deon Eldridge and Jerome Lane which freed him for an untouched 75 yard touchdown reception. This was answered with an interception that led to a quick touchdown to Simmie Cobbs yet again, Cobbs celebrated with his teammates as a 28 point deficit was halved in less than a minute.

The Zips didn't let it go unanswered, not at all.

Determined to break their opponents, the Zips drove downfield, making crucial completions to Jeff Parker, J.T. Blyden and Fransohn Bickley that moved them downfield rapidly before on a five wide set at the two, Tommy Woodson hit Andrew Wolf on a curl to score the touchdown that would extend their lead to three touchdowns before the half.

Yet again, the Zips were feeling terrific, but the story of this game was a tale of two halves, but luckily, the Zips first half was much better than the Hoosiers second. The Zips outscored the Hoosiers by 21 in the first half, while only being outscored by 16 in the second.

The Zips struck first to add to their lead, a long field goal shot from Tom O'Leary from 52 yards out had Akron gain even more separation from their opposition, something they would ultimately end up needing as the game approached it's final whistle.

The Hoosiers answered the field goal with a touchdown of their own. The Hoosiers drove downfield with a fury, and fifth year senior Ricky Jones made a tremendous play to get separation from Nick Higgins and reel in a clean pass, outpacing the defense for a quick score. The two point would fail as Nate Boudreau would be sacked in the backfield. The Zips started driving downfield on their next drive, churning out the clock as the third quarter turned into the fourth. Yet, the mistakes struck the Zips yet again as Tommy Woodson would get hit hard and the ball got scooped up by Kiante Walton and rumbled untouched for 64 yards.

The Hoosiers would get the final answer, after teams traded possessions and the game started fading away. They got an opportunity when Tommy Woodson would be intercepted and suddenly in good field position, the Hoosiers took advantage, with Nate Boudreau getting his fifth touchdown pass on the day, his second to Andrew Campbell who reeled in the pass beautifully for the easy score.

The Zips had a final chance to burn the clock but up by five, they would have to punt the ball away with just thirty seconds remaining, and the defense knowing they couldn't allow a touchdown immediately went into prevent. Allowing two passes of 8 and 14 yards each would have the Hoosiers about to enter Zip territory, but the clock was churning dangerously low, and after three incompletions, there was time for one final pass. Sending a blitz, the Zips got tremendous pressure and hit Nate Boudreau as he released the ball, sending it flying backwards and hitting the turf harmlessly.

The Zips claimed their second ever MAC Championship, as the team ran onto the field, celebrating, the Hoosiers left to the tunnels in silence, the Hoosiers fall to 0-2 in the MAC Championship, while the Zips oddly, find themselves with a 2-0 record, only one under Tyler Kozlov. Akron improves to 10-3 on the season and will look forward to the victor in the Sunbelt to find out who they play for their final game of the season. Jeff Parker claimed player of the game honors in a game where he had no equal. Parker had a career day, earning the career record for receiving yardage for the Zips, and the season record for receptions as he looks to end a historic season with a bowl victory.

It was a hell of a season for us, but I expected Chandler Kincade to turn the corner and become elite, but it was Jeff Parker, the kid is a monster on offense, never had a "go-to" guy like that who can make plays all over the field. He has been a difference maker in almost every game. Ahmad Watts still is getting better too, which is just crazy.

                          2016 Conference Championship

The SMU Mustangs claim the American championship over the Northern Illinois Huskies in a matchup directly contributed to the power run game from Prescott Line, Line whom has been a key factor for this team all year dominated the Huskies defense, thrashing them for 3 touchdowns and over 250 yards of total offense single handedly. That is good, since the Mustangs offense with Line removed would've been woefully inept. The Mustangs were projected to a 3-9 season, and to completely swing that to a 12-1 season has been a tremendous turn around for this program. On the opposite end, Alex Maddie (QB) did what he could to lead the Huskies but couldn't overcome an inefficient passing day where he completed just 40% of his passes en route to 153 yards but a good three touchdown throwing performance. In a tight game with no turnovers, Prescott Lane was the difference maker, as he has been all season long for this Mustangs squad.

Georgia Tech fought with every once of fight they had within themselves, but it was Jameis Winston that would lead the Florida State Seminoles downfield to set up a touchdown pass to Jesus Wilson Jr. with just four minutes left in the game to claim the ACC title. The Seminoles have been unable to run the gauntlet of the ACC to date, but with their best season in the past few years (aside from the NCG of course!) the Seminoles are trending in the right direction. Jameis Winston knew this game had several NFL scouts and put on a clinic against this Yellow Jacket defense, tossing for 4 touchdowns and 370 passing yards with an 81% completion rate saw this team absolutely roll on offense, Winston also added 50 yards on the ground to keep the Jackets off balance, yet aside from Winston, the ground game was far from effective, three halfbacks combined for just 25 yards. Justin Thomas had a strong performance in the passing attack on his own end as well, throwing for 246 yards with no scores and at a 63% clip for these Yellow Jackets. Thomas would also add 116 yards on the ground with a sole touchdown, but it would be halfback Dennis Andrews in his final ACC game piling up a matching amount of yards (116) but three touchdowns that aided this team which turned in one of its most complete performances of the year, but still fell short.

One of the games that would shake the college football and playoff landscape was the Michigan State Spartans falling by 14 to the Northwestern Wildcats, even worse, the Spartans held a 6-3 lead heading into the final frame where they gave up 17 unanswered to close out the game. The B1G title belongs to Evanston following this victory, and Clayton Thorson came up big when his team needed him to. Opening up the fourth quarter, the option keeper saw the quarterback get space and scoot to the outside where he broke it for 28 yards and the go ahead score that made it 10-6, the Wildcats would add two more insurance scores for 10 more in the final ten minutes of the game to extend their lead and ride out the crowd at Lucas Oil Stadium whom were roaring for the victory. Michigan State was woefully inept on offense, falling shy of 300 total yards, with Tom O'Connor tossing 199 of those yards at 50% accuracy and having a single interception which set up the early fourth quarter touchdown. This was an all defensive struggle between the class of the B1G, and the Wildcats take it.

A win and with a loss for Michigan State, the Sooners jumped themselves into the playoffs. The Sooners dominated this one from the start and wouldn't reliniquish a lead throughout the entirety of the game. The Longhorns were fairly heavy underdogs coming into this one and the Sooners made sure to live up to the hype and secure their first ever playoff spot (in the inaugural playoff!). Trevor Knight had his offense on a tear, the Sooners nearly doubled up the Longhorns offensive production with 507 total yards to just 264 for the Longhorns. The Sooners even added a 15-18 3rd down conversion rate, which further propelled the Longhorn's problems. Trevor Knight played like someone whom was trying to win both a conference championship and a heisman, posting a tremendous statline, joined by a terrific win. Tossing five touchdowns, over 250 yards and added another 77 yards on the ground would be more than enough for these Sooners to claim the Big 12 championship and likely lock up a spot in the playoffs. These Sooners are a dangerous team to look out for come playoff time.

The Golden Hurricane rode a wave of momentum and a superior roster into the Conference USA Championship game just to see the game swiped out from right underneath them. To further show that, the option offense of the Navy Midshipmen saw it's best performance out of it's receiver, Brandon Colon, Colon a third string wideout tore up the Hurricane secondary while accounting for 6 of the 7 completions for the Midshipmen, his 155 yards and pair of touchdowns instrumental in the upset. To make matters even worse, the Midshipmen were without their top halfback Tomeo Gulley and instead had true freshman Jake Craft lead the team in rushing with 103 rushing yards and a touchdown. Tulsa just seemed disinterested in this game, while the Midshipmen played with a fire, and that was what it took to claim victory. John Flanders piled up 110 total offensive yards, but it wouldn't be close to enough to carry his team to victory, as the Midshipmen claim their first conference usa championship.

Brigham Young fans were alerted prior to the game that Taysom Hill wouldn't be available for this contest due to injury and that alone caused enough fear for the Cougars whose offense predicated on the quarterback. Stepping into his place, David Washington had a decent enough game to get them a victory, but with a likely playoff bid looming, if Taysom Hill cannot return, it's hard to see the Cougars return to the title game. The Cougars used a run first offense with their star quarterback sidelined and saw it piled up over 200 yards of offense on the ground, which was a good showing from a team that came in heavy favorites but got caught in a tight match. Nevada's offense looked significantly better than the Cougars however led by Tyler Stewart under center, the quarterback went (19-33) for 239 Passing Yards and a pair of touchdowns as he carried his team through most of this one. A late touchdown by the Wolfpack was enough to keep them in this ball game, but unable to make anything happen with their final possession, the Cougars staved off the upset and look to make another appearance in the title game.

UCLA came into this one favorites and looked to roll into the playoffs with the top seed, yet the tables turned quite quickly following sixty minutes of action as Khalfani Muhammad ran wild on the Bruins defense and knocked them off. Luckily enough for them, the Bruins were still ranked #4 following the defeat which puts them in prime position for the playoffs. Khalfani Muhammad had a tremendous game, but his pair of touchdown rushes in the fourth quarter were what separated these two teams. Jerry Neuheisel led his team downfield quickly for a touchdown in retaliation, but with the best halfback in this one belonging to Cal, it was an easy task to run out the clock, as the California Bears claim both their conference victory and a win over their rivals in this one.

The keys to this game were simple, whomever controlled the ground attack would control the game, but oddly enough in a game where the opposition's halfback outshined, Leonard Fournette did just enough to carry his Tigers to a tight victory over the Tennessee Volunteers, Fournette rushed for under 100 yards but still managed to get his team the victory with tremendous running in the red zone that netted his team two scores. Yet, it would be a play action pass from Brandon Harris to John Diarse in the final ten seconds of the game to put the Tigers ahead for a final time. The Volunteers took a 27-14 lead into the final frame but allowed it to sleep away, even with Jalen Hurd putting on a show with 161 Rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns, the back was quieted in the final frame and the Volunteers weren't able to run out the clock on their opponents to steal the SEC away in a season where they weren't projected to even go bowling.

The Bobcats terrific season ended with a thud, dropping their matchup with the Hilltoppers. Western Kentucky saw themselves take the victory in the battle of the Joneses with Troy Jones (QB-WKU) outdueling his opponent from across the field. Troy Jones passes for 218 yards and three touchdowns, his skillset became especially useful when he was significantly more efficient than his opponent who threw 12 more passes but only had five more yards. The Bobcats senior quarterback Tyler Jones did everything he could to lead his team to victory, but needed to throw a late touchdown just to keep his team in the ball game after jetting his team out to a 14-0 lead, the Bobcats led by Jones were unable to keep the momentum and ultimately caved in overtime, as Western Kentucky takes the Sunbelt.

Re: The Legacy of Tyler Kozlov

The College Football Playoff is finally upon us, and while the league was largely mum on the playoff race for the entire season, opting to quietly ride into the post season with the plan in place, the teams are ready to be unveiled. With the teams playing in BCS Stadiums, it was announced that this season, the Beef O'Brady's Bowl will be home of a BCS game. It will feature #5 Notre Dame against #6 Florida State, with a decided homefield advantage for the Florida State Seminoles with the in-state contest.

Without further ado, the four teams to make the first ever playoff are..

                            1) Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1)(7-1)
The Ohio State are one of the oddest #1 teams to ever reach the polls. The Buckeyes lost at the right time, earlier in the season against a high enough ranked opponent to be right in the mix and with UCLA falling to California, the spot was up for grabs and as other contenders fell, the Buckeyes rose, and alas our top team and by that virtue the top seed in our playoff is the Buckeyes. The Buckeyes lone loss to Michigan State can be a memory easily erased with a run through the playoffs.

                            2) Brigham Young Cougars (12-1)(9-1)
The Cougars skidded into the #2 slot for a second consecutive year, by squeaking past an upstart Nevada squad that looked poised to send the reigning Mountain West to a disappointing bowl bid, but the Cougars powered through. Taysom Hill is ruled to have a dislocated throwing elbow, which means he will miss the remainder of the season, and the Cougars hopes will rely heavily on their halfback tandem of Algernon Brown and Josh Crowder to carry this team if they want a shot at a title. Inside linebacker Harvey Langi will lead a strong front seven in hopes that they can cover up weaknesses in the secondary.

                            3) Oklahoma Sooners (12-1)(9-1)
Led by Heisman front runner Trevor Knight, the Sooners are a dangerous team and a threat to all four remaining squads to keep the title in the Big 12. The Sooners will fight whoever they get to the final seconds, they beat all the tough teams on their schedule, and honestly their lone loss could've easily been a fluke, this is one of the best Oklahoma Sooner squads that have taken the field and anything less than a national championship would be a major disappointment for them.

                            4) UCLA Bruins (12-1)(9-1)
UCLA was the most dominating team in the NCAA for 14 weeks of the season, making a steady rise in the polls, and while their major blemish will be their loss to Cal in the Pacific 12 Championship, the Bruins didn't fall hard enough and the pollsters opted to retain them for their whole body of work rather than chastise them for a single week's events. This team has had one of the best offenses and defenses this season and at #4, they are an absolute threat and far from being considered weak. Sadly enough, the Bruins seeding will have them playing the best team in what could've been a national title preview.

Western Kentucky and Akron to meet in GoDaddy Bowl

The Sunbelt and MAC Champions are set to meet in the GoDaddy Bowl. This marks the first time the Akron Zips had ever been to the bowl, joining the Hilltoppers in their inaugural performance. The two first timers will be set to battle in what experts are claiming to be a more one sided affair, not for the ranked team either. Yes the Hilltoppers once again reached the polls as #24 after a strong run through the Sunbelt but it is just the Sunbelt, and this is a MAC team that has taken care of business throughout and is bringing back it's top quarterback for it's biggest game of the season.

Not just that, but they bring in arguably the best wide receiver in the country in Jeff Parker, who has been smashing Akron records all season long and has secured himself in the Akron history books for years to come with such a dominating performance, and in his final game it'd be insane to expect anything other than his A game, with Kincade coming back gunning and Parker looking to end big, this spells trouble for a Hilltopper pass defense that has struggled against teams with good passing attacks, and ranking in the bottom third of the country in that metric.

It's weaknesses lie right up the middle of the field as well as their secondary. While (DT) Devante Terrell is a strong presence in the interior, the depth behind him is weak, and the linebacking corp isn't doing him much favors either, Kalvin Robinson is still a year from reaching his potential and the junior had been covered as a weakness by an accomodating schedule. The Zips with their improving rush attack are a force to be reckoned with.

Alternatively, the offense will be why the Hilltoppers win or lose this game, while it's possible the defense surrenders forty points to a Kincade onslaught, the likelier scenario is a modest scoring game accentuated by either an offensive showing or the offense disappearing.

The offense is predicated on the incredibly unreliable Troy Jones and a solid contingent of halfbacks in Anthony Wales, Darmontre Warr and D'Andre Ferby. The Hilltoppers will need a performance from one of their backs and a strong showing from their quarterback to best this Zips defense which has been lockdown at times this season.

With it all said and done, the spread and experts favor the lower ranked Akron Zips in this contest, and it's not hard to fathom why, an extremely talented pass offense coupled with a stingy opportunistic defense will be too much for the Hilltoppers who have squeaked by in favor too many games due to spotty quarterback play. The Zips by 7.

The Bruins and Buckeyes locked in an early battle that saw both teams twist towards the final frame in a deadlock, both offenses had mild success against the opposition but for the most part, the defenses held strong. Jerry Neuheisel led his team downfield on the opening drive for a touchdown, and the Bruins would actually have the lead or at least a tie until just two minutes to go in the third quarter when Cardale Jones tucked the ball for a touchdown rush. Jerry Neuheisel wouldn't be nearly as effective for the remainder of the game as he was for the opening part of the game. After his first drive, his statline for the next two quarters was just 3-12 for 118 yards and a touchdown. To complete just three passes in the span of two quarters is a major record of futility that ultimately led to his defense having to step up in big ways. They did for the most part, holding the Buckeyes until the final frame when the lack of rest did it's damage, the Buckeyes unloaded for 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, a pair of Buckeye touchdown passes to Dontre Wilson, one for 35 and the other for 49 yards. The Buckeyes commanding lead wouldn't waver, as they jumped out to a 24 point lead that wouldn't even be chipped away at until the final minutes when Jerry Neuheisel caught the Buckeyes defense napping or rather already celebrating and got a long touchdown pass to make the deficit appear less significant, none the less it was a poor showing from the Bruins who end their season on a two game losing streak after winning their first 12.

                                No Hill? No chance.

That's the easiest way to put this beating, Trevor Knight was just too good on the day, five touchdown passes and another rush from the heisman frontrunner was the only statline that needed to be seen to know the result of this one. Knight didn't even need a ground game to punish the Cougars who simply looked lost. The Cougars just didn't have enough ammunition in their chamber and the opposition's quarterback has been playing surreal as of late. The Cougars were two touchdown underdogs without Hill, and just 3 point underdogs had he suited up, and without him, we saw the result. A miserable day for Cougar fans whom had to sit through the brutal defeat.
