Jets Gameday Preview: Week 2: Redemption

Rumor has it that the tears of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brandon Marshall, and the rest of the 2015 Jets are buried underneath midfield here at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

That is all. There's nothing more worth saying about this game, except for the fact that Tyrod Taylor is out. EJ Manuel will start at QB.

Nice win to open the franchise bro, but sorry to hear about losing Revis. That's a huge blow to your secondary. Good luck against the Bills!

Gameday Recap: Bills 41, Jets 20
Shady, Bills run Jets out of Western New York, Primetime stage

When LeSean McCoy broke off this 82 yard TD at the very end of the first, you know the Jets were doomed. Nobody on the Jets defense could make a tackle all day, resulting in dozens of explosives plays.

Look, I don't want to talk much about this game. The first half wasn't too bad. The offense was working well, if it weren't for a couple of poor play calls on 3rd down that led to punts. The Jets had a 7-3 lead at one point, after they countered with a touchdown after making a goal line stand and holding the Bills to a field goal on their opening drive. But then McCoy broke off that run on the first play from scrimmage after the Jets took the lead, an it went all downhill from there. The Jets stayed in the game until halftime. Calvin Pryor III picked off EJ Manuel in the end zone, for the Jets' first interception of the season, but they couldn't stop the running game and LeSean McCoy, so eventually, the Bills found their way to the end zone. And when they did, the Jets offense began to press, and turn the ball over. After only being down 20-13 at the half, the Jets found themselves down 41-13 at the end of the third. So at that point, the only thing the Jets were worrying about was getting Matt Forte into the end zone. For the second straight week, he couldn't do much running the ball, but to be fair, both of those game have been against strong run defenses. Anyway, he did finally find paydirt early in the 4th, even though it didn't mean anything. The Bills literally ran the clock out, because they totaled over 300 rushing yards, while the Jets pressed and pressed, and ended up with 3 interceptions from Ryan Fitzpatrick. There's 10 days to lick wounds and prepare for KC. The meat of the schedule begins now. 4 weeks against playoff teams, 3 on the road. Brutal.

Robert Woods doesn't really elude Buster Skrine. Skrine just attempted the most pathetic tackle ever, and then RoWo took it to the house.

Forte was elated when he finally got a rushing touchdown, but it didn't mean anything. We were in garbage time.

damn, tough to win when you give up almost 600 yards and they have 1 runner over 200 and another over 100.

Tough day for the Jets man, must have been frustrating seeing them run for so many yards.

Did I mention that McCoy only played 2 quarters? He got hurt early in the third and didn't come back. 200+ rushing yards in 2 quarters is pretty darn good.

Damn... AFC East is looking pretty freaking beastly! Only reason Pats & Jets lost is because they played a divisional rival. Them Phins though upsetting both the Seahawks and Patriots on the road... holy crap the hype train down here would be rocking so hard!

But losing Revis is really tough for you. I gotta say, I'm impressed he's only gonna be out 2 months as opposed to the rest of the season. A broken collarbone is painful as all hell. Dealing with offenses like Seattle, Pittsburgh, and Arizona will be tough as hell without him... Fitzy is gonna have to step his game up!

Yeah, who would expect the Browns-Dolphins week 3 game to be a matchup of 2-0 teams??? Crazy. We'll see how it works out. Keep in mind that the Pats are without Brady, so that upset in Foxborough might have been a fluke.

I'm scared. If we play like we did last week against the gauntlet of this schedule, we have 4 or 5 straight blowouts coming our way. Thanks for checking in!

Just got caught up with this. As always, love the detail you put into your franchises. I also enjoy how your fictional characters history is brought up in the intros. Sam Freday legacy points would be through the roof if it carried over from Madden to Madden lol.

Anyways, following along even I just found out your favorite team is my rival. Good luck this Madden Season and Go Bills

                              Jets Gameday Preview: Week 3:

Will the Chiefs tomahawk chop the Jets out of Arrowhead or will the Jets actually look like a decent NFL team this week?

So after that debacle in Buffalo in front of a national TV audience last week, the Jets now bring in the league's 2nd worst defense in terms of yards allowed, and worst rush defense. You would think it can't get any worse, so at least we got that going for us. The problem with the Jets right now is that they can't run the ball, and they can't stop the run. They'll have to work hard if they want to change that this week. Not only do the Chiefs have Jamaal Charles, who strongly resembles LeSean McCoy, who as you know, ran for over 200 yards on the Jets last week, in the sense that he can be impossible to bring down at times. If the Jets want to run the ball better, that's a tough job. The Chiefs might have one of the best linebacking corps in the NFL. Justin Houston and Tamba Hali enforce the outside edge, while Derrick Johnson sits in the middle, waiting for teams to run it up the throat, which the Jets love doing. But, Todd Bowles wants nothing more than to get Matt Forte going, because there's not much you can do on offense when you have to rely on the passing game all day long.

When the Jets do pass the ball, the play calling will have to be a little bit better. Ryan Fitzpatrick will need to get the 3 interceptions from last week out of his mind quickly, because the Chiefs' defense backfield is no slouch either. NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Honors last year went to Marcus Peters, and the Kansas City fan base is still rallying around the incredible journey of Eric Berry, who came back from cancer, to an All-Pro level of play.

On the other side, this Chiefs offense returns all of its most important players from last season's Wild Card romping of the Texans. Alex Smith continues to get the job done his own way. He doesn't need a whole lot of weapons with someone like Charles at his side, but he's got Jeremy Maclin and the big tight end Travis Kelce. Remember now, this is the team that gave the Patriots a run for their money in the Divisional Round last year in Foxboro. We all know how hard it is to win a playoff game in Foxboro.

Gameday Recap: Chiefs 17, Jets 3
Jets let game slip away after locking up KC offense for 3 quarters

He had been bottled up all day, but Jamaal Charles channeled his frustrations on the first drive of the fourth quarter to put the Chiefs in the lead.

This was definitely a winnable game. Matt Forte went off on the Chiefs' stout defense, totaling close to 150 yards on the ground. The offense was flowing nicely, except for the 3 interceptions from Fitzpatrick, 2 of which were not his fault. One was tipped for a good 20 seconds before being picked off by Justin Houston, who was in the right place at the right time. The other cheesy INT came when a ball bounced off the head of Jace Amaro's face. But the game got off to a great start. The Chiefs went three and out on the game's first drive, with the Jets stuffing Jamaal Charles, something nobody had expected them to do. On the ensuing drive, Forte took off with a vengeance, Fitz found Marshall on a long third down and the Jets had first and goal from the 7, but they couldn't punch it in. Nick Folk hit a chip shot, but it was still 3-0, and a good start. The Chiefs continued to get nothing on offense for the first half, with only 26 rushing yards in the first half. Unfortunately, the Jets couldn't quite get into field goal range, thanks to the leg of Dustin Colquitt. The Chiefs did manage a field goal before the half ended to waltz into the locker room tied at 3-3.

In the second half, all of those little fluky interceptions began to rear their ugly heads. Those two worst ones occurred in field goal range, but the Jets defense continued to step up. Steve McLendon ended a drive with a sack, David Harris forced a punt with a big hit to knock the ball out of Jamaal Charles' hands (on a pass). As aggravted as Charles was, however, he would get his chance. The first play after the crazy Houston interception, Charles broke off a 25 yard run, and the Chiefs were in business. 5 play later, the Chiefs had a 10-3 lead when Charles punched it in from 9 yards out. On the ensuing drive, the Jets took their time getting to midfield. After a 4 yard run from Forte, and an incompletion, Ryan Fitzpatrick was sacked on third down, making it 4th and 15. With under 3 minutes left, the Jets had to go for it. The next play? Fitz found Kenbrell Thompkins on a play action crossing route for a gain of 14 and a half. So close. The Jets thought they had the Chiefs right ater that, but on 3rd and 8, Alex Smith heaved it deep toward Jeremy Maclin, who had to come back for the ball, battling with Dee Milliner, but caught it somehow. That brought the game to the two minute warning, but the Jets were deflated. They made it interesting from there, but Alex Smith ran it in on third down when the Jets had all the KC receivers locked up. Why they were even passing baffles me.

So, the Jets sit at 1-2 now, after letting this one get away. The good news? It's time to come home. The Jets open up October with a date with the Seahawks, who are struggling themselves, sitting at 0-3, but are always dangerous with a guy like Russell Wilson in charge of the offense, and much of that Super Bowl winning defense still intact.

After a couple hundred deflections, off the line, off Marshall, off Eric Berry, and off the line again, Justin Houston scoops up a very cheesy interceptionthat set up the Chiefs' go ahead scoring drive.

Ryan Fitzpatrick didn't play horribly, but not his best. The highlight of his day was this perfectly placed bullet to Brandon Marshall on 3rd and long, setting up the Jets' only points of the afternoon.
