Wade is Finding His Groove
That’s three wins in a row for Miami’s rookie quarterback Devin Wade.
After using the first week of the season as a bye due to Hurricane Irma, the Dolphins got steamrolled by the Los Angeles Chargers.
Fans were ready to write off Wade after he threw three interceptions in the loss, but head coach Adam Gase stuck with his decision and decided to keep Wade on the field as opposed to going to Jay Cutler, who came out of retirement to join the Dolphins.
The following week, Wade brought the Dolphins a victory against the New York Jets and he seems to steadily improve week after week.
On a dreary Sunday in London, Wade and the Dolphins picked up over 200 yards on the ground in a convincing victory against the New Orleans Saints. Despite Wade only having 35 yards on the ground, he got the ball rolling as he ran into the end zone for his first rushing touchdown of the season.
“I think once he got into the end zone against the Jets for that two point conversion, he got a taste of what it was like,” said Gase.
The weather pretty much dictated what the offensive scheme was going to be for the Dolphins and Wade could not be more ready to execute.
“When you have guys like Damien [Williams] and Kenyan [Drake] in the backfield, you don’t want to waste that,” said Wade.
Despite throwing one interception and no touchdowns, Wade showed good control of the field, completing 11 passes for nearly 200 yards. He was composed in most instances and when he needed to, he scrambled to extend plays.
This was Miami’s fourth time participating in the NFL’s International Series and they now have a record of 2-2 in London.
Gase has shown a lot of faith in the young QB, who appears inconsistent and unfocused at times during games. Fans haven’t welcomed him into the fold just yet as most people were expecting Jay Cutler to lead the team this season, but with a 3-1 record, you have to admit that he gets results.
“I just try to remember what Dan [Marino] told me during the show. Go out there and have fun. So every week, I try to do just that. I think I’m gaining the trust of my teammates and they are looking to me as the QB to lead more. But they still have my back.”
