BRONCOS KICKOFF SEASON WITH BIG WIN.

The "Milk Can" trophy will stay in Boise. The Broncos dominated the 1st half on both sides of the ball limiting the Bulldogs to just 4-1st downs and 128 yds of total offense well forcing 4 turnonvers (2 fumbles and 2 INT) on Defense, and the Offense exploded for 42 1st half points (42-0).

QB Luke Collins shredded the Bulldogs defense completing 21/28 passes for 359 yds and 4 scores including a 70 yd bomb to RB Alexander Mattison.

The one thing the Bulldogs did do well in the 1st half, was limit Mattison to just 39 yds on 17 carries but where they couldn't stop him was the endzone as the JR scores twice from 1 yd out including a keeper after lining up behind center in the wildcat.

It was a tale of 2 halves though, as Fresno State picks off Collins 3 times in the 3rd Quarter including a "Pick 6", as the Bulldogs cut the lead to (42-21) with 1 quarter to play. Neither team would find the endzone in the 4th, but the Broncos do manage to add 2 more points as the Defense records a safety with 3 minutes to play. FINAL SCORE BSU-43 FRESNO STATE-21

    KEY PLAYERS

Collins would finish the game 27/38 for 440 yds with the 4 TD and 3 INT

Mattison finished with 31 carries for just 59 yds and the 2 scores. Mattison also had 3 rec for 95 yds including the 70 yd bomb and 1 score.

Parrish carried the ball 5 times late in the 4th and finished with a 4.2 avg (21 yds) leading many to wonder if he should've seen more action.

    J. Carter looked good and performed well in his 1st game as the #1 WR. He finished with a team high 11 rec for 174 yds and 1 TD

    T. Armstrong had 6 rec for 71 yds and 1 TD out of the slot (#3 WR)

    D. Miles finished with 8 Solo tackles, 4 TFL and 2 sacks.

      UPSET CITY

The Matchup of #3 Notre Dame vs #8 Texas was tabbed the "Game of the Week" but someone forgot to tell the Irish. Texas dominated the first half taking a (35-7) lead into the locker room as they cruised to the (49-17) victory.

With the win the Longhorns jump to #4 in the rankings well the Irish drop to #10

BRONCOS DOMINATED COUGARS TO IMPROVE TO 2-0

        GAME RECAP

The Broncos would only lead (6-0) at the end of the 1st Quarter (Stephens missed his first ever PAT), but the Boise State passing attack would find it's grove in the in the 2nd Quarter as QB Luke Collins shreds the Cougar Defense for 3 TD pass's to give the Broncos the (27-0) lead at the half.

WSU would answer with a pair of TD's of their own in the 3rd, but a Parrish 3 yd TD run would make it (34-14) going into the 4th. Coach Harsin and Moore would pull most of the 1st string offense, but it didn't matter as Bobby Parham comes in and completes 7/12 for 278 yds through the air including 2 TD's (39 yds to J Dennis and a 70 yd bomb to Carter). Parham then added a 3rd score on the ground with a 5 yd TD run as this game got ugly. FINAL SCORE BSU-55 WSU-28

        KEY PLAYERS

        QB L. Collins-19/27 306 yds 4 TD 1 INT, 83 yds rushing
        QB B. Parham-7/12 278 yds 2 TD, 1 Rushing TD

        RB-A. Mattison-12 carries 62 yds, 4 rec 53 yds
        RB-R. Parrish-6 carries 29 yds 1 TD, 2 rec 24 yds

        WR J. Carter-9 rec 278 yds 3 TD
        WR M. Lee-4 rec 85 yds 2 TD
        WR J. Dennis-3 rec 116 yds 1 TD

        Coach Moore
"I am super proud of the both sides of the ball, but offensively that has to be one of the most dominating performances I have seen in quite awhile. 772 yds of Offense, 188 yds on the ground 584 yds in the Air, 28-1st downs, 9/10 in 3rd down%. I can't wait to see what we can do in Week 4 vs the Beavers"

                4TH QUARTER COMBACK!!!

                GAME RECAP

The Broncos came into the game averaging almost 2 touchdowns more then the Beavers, but that didn't stop OSU from giving BSU their toughest challenge of the season.

Boise State opened the scoring with a 1 yd TD run by FR FB Z. Christian to make it (7-0) but with 29 seconds to play in the 1st, the Beavers answered with a 4 yd TD run of their own (A. Pierce).

Again sticking with the ground game it was A. Mattison capping off a 82 yd drive with a 2 yd TD run to make it (14-0) with 3 minutes to play in the half. OSU however quickly answered going to the air with a 37 yd TD pass from M. Moran to A. Bodden. (14-14) leaving 1:43 on the clock.

Not willing to accept a tied ball game, the Broncos go to the air as QB L. Collins completes 5/5 passes before throwing a INT on the 3 yd line that almost turns into a "Pick 6" had it not been for a TD saving tackle by Mattison at the 1 yd line. It didn't matter though as OSU scores on it's first run attempt to make it (21-14) with less then a minute to play.

Trailing, Collins once again goes to the air, but his first pass attempt is picked off yet and again the Beavers make them pay as Moran hits J. Moore for a 6 yd score to make it (28-14) at the half.

Boise State would open the half with the ball but that changed quickly as Collins throws INT #3 giving the Beaver another opportunity to build on their lead, but Moran gives it right back as LB T. Maeva picks off his pass attempt.

With a 2nd chance Collins delivers as he completes a 54 yd bomb to M. Lee to make it (28-21) with 6 minutes to play in the 3rd. After a quick 3 and out, Collins lead the offense out looking to duplicate his last drive with a TD. Instead he duplicated a earlier performance with his 4th INT, but again the Bronco "D" delivers a 3 and out.

Broncos fans had to be worried. Was the early Heisman talk to much for Collins to handle. Was Collins fully to blame or did some of his poor decisions fall on the shoulders of the play calling? What about the poor pass protection from the O-Line?

With Collins struggling and still plenty of time on the clock, the Broncos would go back to what was working early. The run game, and the run game delivered as A. Mattison take it in from 4 yds out to tie the game (28-28).

Boise would then take the lead in the 4th as Collins again connects on a bomb this time to J. Carter from 55 yds out to make it (35-28). OSU would look to answer but the Bronco "D' steps up yet again forcing a 7th punt of the game.
Despite the lead, Coach Moore wanted more points and he wanted to secure the win at the same time. After back to back 4 yd gains it was 3rd and 2 as he called in the play. Bunch formation "Seattle".. The play typically set's up with 2 WR's and TE K. Crabtree wide right with Lee lined up by himself on the left. It's a bread and butter play that normally get's big yards and plenty of 1st downs, but the Beavers sniffed it out as Collins looks to hit Crabtree on the fly route. INT #5. Oregon State now has the ball with a chance to tie.

After back to back 1st down completions though, Moran fails to complete another. After 3 straight incomplete pass's it comes down to 4th and 10. Moran drops back and scans the field, but the only thing he see's is D. Miles helmet as he hits the turf.

Despite 354 yds and 2 scores, Collin's 5 INT's have ended his day. Parham comes in and hands off the ball 3 times to Mattison which sets up a 22 yd FG by Stephens to seal the win. FINAL SCORE BSU-38 OSU-28

                KEY PLAYERS
                QB L. Collins-17/28 354 yds 2 TD 5 INT, 8 carries 40 yds

                  RIVALRY REBORN??

TCU and BSU were once a budding non-power 5 rivalry that met in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl as undefeated teams ranked #4 and #6 in the nation. The Broncos came away that day with a victory, but TCU got some revenge beating the Broncos on the "Blue turf" handing Moore his 3rd career loss (also noted they were the team that was first to beat Moore in 2008 as well).

With a 2-2 record and games that have been decided by less then 3 points this one looked to be a thriller as both teams came into the game undefeated with Boise State ranked #11.

                  GAME RECAP

The Broncos would start with the ball and open up the scoring as A. Mattison dives in from 1 yd out to make it (7-0). TCU however answers with a rushing TD of their own to make it (7-7) with 3 minutes to play in the opening quarter.

QB Luke Collins looking to rebound from his 5 INT game vs OSU, would lead the 2nd offensive drive with 3 straight completions before a tipped pass of the hands of Carter falls into a Horn Frog defenders hands and that's where things went downhill.

The Media backlash and Bronco fans doubt emerged. Does Collins really have Heisman type ability or was it just premature hype?

Collins would look to quite a few of those doubts with a 17 yd TD pass to Crabtree to give the Broncos the lead, but the question was for how long.

Up (14-7) going into the 2nd, TCU would score on back to back series after the Broncos fail to convert on 3rd and 2 and with 2 minutes to play it was (21-14). Again pressured to want to tie the game before the half, BSU goes to the air, but again the Horn frogs come up with a TD saving INT in the endzone to end the threat.

The 3rd Quarter would fly by without much action as both teams failed to move the ball much with each team settling for a FG. Stephens hit's from 41 yds out well TCU's T. O'Neill connects from 30 to make it (24-17)

The Broncos would have 5 chances to tie the game, well the Horn Frogs would have just as many to seal the win, but neither team did anything until 3 seconds to play. After a 3rd INT by Collins, TCU's FR QB E. Bell would deliver the game winner as he finds T. Oliver on a 5 yd score.FINAL SCORE TCU-31 BSU-17

                  KEY STATS
                  QB L. Collins-22/46 354 yds 1 TD 3 INT, -43 yds rushing
                  RB A. Mattison-17 carries 73 yds 1 TD
                  WR J. Carter-8 rec 109 yds
                  TE N. Crabtree-6 rec 129 yds 1 TD

                  Coach Moore after the game
"I know alot of people are blaming Luke for this loss, but 1 INT was a tipped ball, and the other 2 are in large part of my play calling and the fact our O-Line gave up 9 sacks. He was pressured all day into making bad pass's or trying to throw the ball away. Yes 3 TD's and 8 INT in the past 2 games isn't going to win us alot of ball games, but lucky for us we have next week off (Bye) and have a chance to work on some stuff before having to play BYU"

UPSET CITY MAKING IT'S WAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY. WHAT TOWN WILL IT FIND NEXT!!!

                    WEEK 4
The Clemson Tigers visited by Indiana in Week 4 and the Hoosiers took home the win (32-27).

Then it was Toledo taking on Auburn handing that Tiger team their 2nd loss of the season (35-30).

                    WEEK 5

Besides the Broncos loss to TCU which dropped BSU to #17 and propelled TCU to #24 the other big upset if you call it a upset was #9 Nortre Dame beating #7 Miami (24-17) and #14 Wisconsin beating #9 Ohio State (45-35).

In other new #1 UCLA beat #12 Arizona State (41-14).

                    WEEK 6
For the 2nd time this season Notre Dame takes the loss, as they fall to Clemson who had fallen out of the Top-25. With the loss the Irish drop from #4 where they spent just 1 week to #12 well the Tigers jump back into the Top-25 at #23.

After Arizona State's back to back Top 25 loss's to USC and UCLA, the Sun Devils fall to #18, but get back on track as they beat #8 LSU (52-32) in Tempe.

#12 West Virginia started the year out 4-0, but their undefeated season ends as they fall (35-10) to Pitt on the road. With the loss they drop to #22.

                    WESTCOAST DOMINATES TOP SPOTS

With schools like Clemson,Notre Dame and Auburn all sporting 2 loss's. It's current and former Pac-12 teams dominating the top 3 spots.

UCLA's Top-25 win over Arizona State and perfect 5-0 record has the Bruins sitting #1 in both Top-25 polls.

Fellow Pac-12 rival Stanford is #2 at 6-0 with a win over Oregon at home (31-27) and previous unbeaten (5-0) San Diego State team.

Washington's strange bye week schedule of not playing in Week 3 and 4 killed their chance for #1. But at 4-0 with a Week 6 win over Utah State (48-7) has the Huskies sitting at #3.

6-0 Miss State is currently sitting at #4, well (5-0) Kansas State is at #5.

Texas A&M is still perfect (4-0) and has climbed to #11, well TCU has climbed to #19 with their (4-0) record.

Nebraska coming off a (35-16) win over Oklahoma also is still undefeated at (5-0) and finally cracks the Top-25 at #25, well Navy is perfect at (4-0) including a (31-13) win over Army and a (16-10) win over Air Force but they remain unranked.

Baylor joins them as a undefeated team receiving no respect. The Bears are (5-0) but their biggest win was over (4-1) Wake Forest (37-21), giving the Demons their first loss.

UNC however also joins the under appreciated crowd at (4-0), but with 2 of those wins coming against FCS opponents what do you expect.

The craziest however has to be the fact Alabama is currently sitting at (5-0) in the Sun Belt with wins over Michigan State and Ole Miss, yet no Top-25 ranking for them.

RAIN AND POOR PLAY LEADS TO 2ND LOSS OF THE SEASON!!

                      GAME RECAP

The Broncos came into the game averaging a NCAA best 421 yds passing, lead the nation in Total Offense at 550 yds per game and had the #1 Rushing Defense at 79.9 YPG, but none of that mattered in the downpour rain in Utah.

Boise got on the scoreboard early sticking to a ground attack that produced 100 yds in the 1st Quarter as A. Mattison scores on a 1 yd keeper after producing a 33 yd and 26 yd run on the 87 yd drive.

BYU however answered back with their own rushing score as Q. Ward takes it 62 yds on a broken play to tie the game (7-7) at the end of the 1st.

Luke Collins completed 7 of his first 10 pass's including a 8 yd TD strike to M. Lee to make it a (14-7) game with 5:41 to play in the 2nd, but a missed FG by Stephens and another Collins INT leads to the Cougars putting up 10 unanswered points to take the (17-14) lead into the locker room.

Both teams were held scoreless in the 3rd as Stephens missed another FG from 39 yds out well another drive was killed by Collin's 2nd INT of the game.

Boise State however would take the lead early in the 4th, as Mattison returns from a 3rd Quarter injury to score his 2nd TD of the day to make it (21-17) with 6:41 to play in the game. But again BYU answers back as Ward scores on a 3 yd dive to make it (24-21) with 2:26 to play. With Collins struggling, the Broncos went back to Mattison and the JR RB delivered with is 3rd TD of the game to put the Broncos back up (28-24) with 1:32 to play.

But once again BYU follows suit, destroying the nationally ranked run defense with Ward's 3rd TD of the day to make it (31-28) with 56 seconds to play.

With limited time and the need of a TD, BSU was forced to go to the air and once again Collins fails to deliver. After back to back drops by J. Carter on sideline routes, Collins is forced to go deep, but the Cougar "D" was ready picking off the pass for their 3rd INT of the day. To add insult to injury, the Cougars for some reason decide to kick a 26 yd FG with 9 seconds to play making it (34-28), but after a 18 yd kickoff return Collins is left with just 1 attempt at a 82 yd Hail Mary.FINAL SCORE BYU-34 BSU-28

Tough back to back losses. Collin's int's are getting to be a problem too. It was also surprising that BYU's running back rushed so well against your defense. Although, I guess he only got about a hundred yards other than that big TD run.

                        Good luck against the Aggies!

Thanks for checking in and the feedback.

The INT's are a combination of things. TCU's D-Line is good and they destroyed my O-Line which forced some pretty bad pass's on my part. Against OSU we survived the robo MLB with the insane vertical picking off 2 that shouldn't have been, but still managed to throw 3 as a result of trying to be to greedy and hope my tall WR's could come down with some long throws.

BYU was a combo of bad throws, a tipped ball and a legit great play by their defense on 1 ball.

I feel bad, cause I really thought Collins had legit shot at putting up Heisman type #'s, but those INT's have killed his chances. It won't surprised me if he finishes with the most passing yards in the nation and probably will improve on his 40 TD's from last year, but he has already surpassed his INT total of 14.

With Utah State, UNLV and Wyoming coming up we have great chance at stringing together some W's before another our games against Washington,Auburn and Oregon. Obviously Auburn's early 3 loss's and our 2 loss's sorta ruined any type of Top-10 battle there.

Collins has really had a rough time throwing six picks over the last two games, especially considering they were both rivalry losses. That stings much more than any other loss. It's time to rebound and get back on track!

The Deuce is back!!! So looking forward to reading this!!! Really enjoyed your Cougars and Boise St. dynasties of yester year. Have to say it sucked when I read you were gonna go and play NCAA basketball. I followed that for a bit and lost interest as I am not a college basketball fan. Again, really looking forward to this. 🍻
