Funny you mention getting into a good bowl - in addition to the now failed goal of winning the SEC, a January bowl game is actually one of Coach Geezy's goals from the A.D., along with finishing in the Top 25; so yes, we still have a lot to play for here down the stretch.
any fears of missing all the goals or 2 of 3 and getting canned? are those goals for this season or for the length of the contract?

No, I am not worried at all. From my experience, the goals are for the length of the contract, not just the singular season. And I believe even if I only meet 1 or 2 of them over the course of the deal, I should be good.

I think the only reason the bottom fell out at Tulane was because I missed all three goals for like 5 consecutive seasons (and because we could not agree on a salary lol):

        1. We turned the ball over three times, including one that was a pick-six and another that took at least a field goal off of the board. We lost by 8, so that's literally the 10 points we needed right there for the win.

        2. We went just 1 of 6 on third downs. This equaled no sustained drives, which prevented us from getting a red-hot Scottie Rodgers more carries.

        3. Perhaps a direct result of #2, they out-possessed us, running a whopping 78 offensive plays compared to just 45 for us. I can't remember the last time, if ever, I have seen a play disparity in the negative like that for my team. In my head, it lead to a tired defense at the end, which gave up an 85-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter and also could not get off the field at the end of the game.

That said, as I have always stated throughout this entire dynasty report trilogy since the beginning, the losses are what keeps us coming back, especially when they come in big games. This motivates me even more for next season, so once I was over the initial disappointment, this game result is an overall positive for the dynasty report as a whole. Now, I am just focused on finishing the year strong and building up some momentum heading into next season.
Yeah, I meant to say something about those turnovers. I could tell they definitely hurt you, I just didn't know how bad they did. To add on to your last point, I almost like to lose as much as I do to get a good win. I feel like, as you said, it keeps it interesting and it kind of fuels the fire almost. Anyways, hope you can pull it back against Ole Miss and win out, to complete your other goals!

It's dangerous for me to read this feed during the week because it makes me wanna fire up the PlayStation and I've got homework. Lol.

Rough loss though this was, your game was certainly more entertaining than the last several Bama-LSU games have been in real life and I have no doubt you'll be challenging them for division dominance soon.

Side note(?): One thing I love about LSU is that they share one solid trait with my least favorite team (ND) in that every game seems to be a rivalry, even though some Tiger fans are dismissive of many of those rivalries.

Good luck hitting ten wins! I'll be watching.

Yes these NCAA games would get boring very quickly if the losses didn't come, especially in games that you're clearly not the favorite to win. Having a mountain to continuously climb keeps things interesting and will also make things all the more sweeter when we finally do get to the top.

I'd also like to add that when you reach this stage of a dynasty, the losses make you look back even more fondly on past success; I truly took for granted just how special those 2016 and 2018 Tulane national championship seasons were.

As for Ole Miss, one of the things I learned during my time at Tulane is that sometimes, Alabama can beat you twice. What I mean by this is that you spend so much time, energy, and focus on beating Bama, that when you experience the deflation of a loss like that, the next game can feel even more deflating to play and you sometimes don't put as much effort into it and end up losing again. We will be the favorite versus Ole Miss, but this is a very, very dangerous trap game for us if we don't bring our 'A' game to Oxford.

Ha...yeah I don't miss those days of having to juggle this with school work. Now it is just about finding time before work or before the family is awake to knock out some reporting before going out to do real life things.

I like that you brought up the entertainment value of the Bama game. One of the things I am learning with this LSU portion of the dynasty report as opposed to the Tulane portion, is that even though my Green Wave earned their stripes and earned their way back into the SEC, playing with the Tigers now makes you realize just how much more intense it feels playing with an actual, true and current SEC football school. I truly feel like I am playing in the huge games we see on Saturday nights on CBS. Don't get me wrong, I loved my Tulane games, but I must say that playing with LSU is a whole different deal.

Regarding your side note - I have been a resident of Louisiana for the majority of my life, so naturally, I have always followed and casually rooted for LSU. But it has never dawned on me just how many of their opponents are considered "rivalries." Right now, I feel like virtually every other week is a rivalry game of sorts; it's really amazing just how big each of these games are. I had no idea.

Game 10, Year 1 Preview (2027 season): #19 LSU Tigers at Ole Miss

Latest Line (courtesy Bovada - Las Vegas):

              ....................8 ....................

Game Capsule: A historical SEC rivalry matchup that spans all the way back to 1894, LSU and Ole Miss' annual contest was dubbed "The Magnolia Bowl" by the two schools' student bodies in 2008.

A season ago, WR Joe Burnett accounted for two touchdowns (1 rushing, 1 receiving) while TE Lucas Rodgers hauled in 11 receptions for 143 yards and a score, as the Tigers escaped with a 27-20 win over the Rebels in Baton Rouge. Rodgers also had a big game in 2025 versus Ole Miss, catching 9 receptions for 172 yards and a score in a thrilling 26-23 overtime win at Oxford.

Ole Miss has not defeated LSU since winning a 31-0 battle in 2021 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, however every matchup between the two schools since 2023 has been decided by a deficit of 7 or fewer points.

First year LSU head coach D. Geezy was an impressive 12-1 all-time versus Ole Miss during his 17-year run with Tulane. His lone loss came in 2020, when the then-#5 ranked Green Wave were stunned by an unranked Rebels squad in a 38-31 upset loss in overtime at Oxford. A year ago, Geezy and his old squad pulled away late and defeated Ole Miss 52-35 on the road.

Classic trap game here. As long as your boys play up to their standard, it should be a sure fire win seeing how the only games the rebels have won have been against teams with losing records. Not only that, but if they continue their trend of flip flopping wins and losses this season y’all should be good. Geaux Tigers!

Ha...that spread is definitely a bait spread. This is the type of betting line that people in Vegas make their money on.

I'll just say this - looking at things objectively, LSU plays in a lot of tight contests and every game between these two schools has been decided by 7 or fewer points since 2023. Also, when you really break down the lineups, we aren't truly THAT much better than they are. If they get momentum going early and that home crowd gets behind him, we could find ourselves in a battle.

And yes sir, I do have a file save of every End of Season menu dating back to the very start of this dynasty. It has been very useful, especially now that I have switched teams and don't have tons of historical LSU info in my head or in a dynasty report thread to look back at.

Definitely a very odd score there, being that Bowling Green is a D rated program. The Falcons must have just caught them on a bad day.

Looking at the box score, it doesn't even look like a typical blowout. Their QB threw for 175 yards and no touchdowns. Their top two running backs combined for 44 carries and only 114 yards, but scored three touchdowns between them. Ole Miss turned the ball over 4 times to Bowling Green's 0, and that seems to be the clear difference.

Overall just a very odd looking stat sheet considering the score and caliber of teams.

Agree, this thing has the makings of a trap game if there ever was one. Hope my guys are ready to play.

Great observation on the flip-flopping trend they have going. Hopefully we can get it to continue!

Game 10, Year 1 (2027 season): #19 LSU Tigers at Ole Miss Rebels

                        RIVALRY GAME: THE MAGNOLIA BOWL

                        #19 52 -- 7-3 (5-2)
                        N/R 21 -- 5-5 (3-4)

After throwing an early interception, QB Rob Mason became red-hot, finishing with 329 yards and 4 touchdowns on just 11 completions while becoming LSU's all-time leading passer.

After some early back-and-forth, #19 LSU pours it on in the second half to blow away rival Ole Miss 52-21 at frigid Oxford | QB Mason, RB Rodgers, and WR Walker each turn in strong performances as Tigers bounce back following last week's disappointment; Mason becomes school's all-time leading passer | Team to host bowl-hungry Arkansas in next week's home finale

Oxford, MS -- Last week, LSU lost a game in which it had an opportunity to move into first place in the SEC West with a win but ultimately fell to #1 Alabama, allowing the Crimson Tide to clinch the division, and relegating the Tigers to playing for nothing but pride the rest of this season. On Saturday, LSU showed just how prideful of a squad they have, as they absolutely pummeled Ole Miss 52-21 at chilly Oxford in the two schools' annual Magnolia Bowl rivalry game. Junior QB Rob Mason threw four touchdown passes and fellow junior Glen Walker caught two of them, as the Tigers notched their 6th straight win over their divisional rivals.

LSU's top wide receiver Glen Walker, after being held without a catch during last weekend's loss to #1 Alabama, finished Saturday with a season-high 133 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns, giving him a team-high 6 touchdown receptions this year to go along with 514 receiving yards.

LSU's opportunistic defense provided an early boost for the team's big 52-point day, as junior DE/DT/LB Matt Manning scored on a 43-yard interception return touchdown that gave the Tigers an early 7-0 lead. The touchdown was the 11th this season for first year defensive coordinator Charles Kelly's bunch, and represents the most ever by a team under Tigers first year head coach D. Geezy's tutelage (the previous high was 9 during his time at Tulane).

"That boy could run," said Tigers linebackers coach Mark Richards on Manning. "He stands at 6-2 300 pounds, clocks in at about a 4.6 in the 40 and is very agile. He's one of many chess pieces we have on defense that can move around and play all over the field and has been a pleasure to coach."

Unfortunately, the Tigers' offense and special teams would return the favor with a pair of turnovers of their own that allowed Ole Miss to stay in the game early. WR/PR Brady Carter Jr.'s muffed punt led to a 10-yard touchdown pass from Rebels QB Andre Clemons to TE Josh Campbell that tied the game up at 7-7. Then, an interception thrown by Mason to FS Will McLaughlin would result in the Tigers' surrendering the lead.

Following the interception, a 58-yard touchdown run by Ole Miss RB Phil Harris, who finished with 240 rushing yards and 2 long scores, briefly gave the Rebels a 14-7 advantage early in the second period. But that's when LSU began its scoreboard assault.

Mason's 60-yard touchdown connection with TE Lucas Rodgers tied the game back up at 14-14. Later, Rodgers' brother Scottie Rodgers' 42-yard second quarter touchdown, his 10th score this season, gave the Tigers a 21-14 lead that they'd never squander. And finally, RB Anthony Johnson's 54-yard touchdown increased the visiting team's lead to 28-14 with just over a minute remaining in the first half.

"Our running game was on-point this evening and Scottie really seems to be turning it up a notch here down the stretch," said Tigers offensive coordinator Anthony High of S. Rodgers, who finished with 106 rushing yards, his second straight 100-yard rushing performance.

Ole Miss got the ball first to start the second half, however a tackle behind the line of scrimmage by FS Trey Wade on Harris resulted in a turnover on downs at the Tigers' 42-yard line. One play later, Mason found Walker for a 58-yard score that blew the game open at 35-14.

QB Rob Mason threw for 329 yards and 4 touchdowns on Saturday and became LSU's all-time leading passer in the process, surpassing former Tigers QB Tommy Hodson's career-mark of 9,115 yards, set in 1989.
The pair would hookup again early in the fourth quarter, connecting on a 53-yard deep post route for a touchdown that increased the lead to 45-21. Then, with just under three minutes remaining, Carter Jr. made amends for his earlier gaffe by hauling in a 28-yard touchdown pass from Mason that made the score 52-21 and put the game away for good.

Mason finished the game just 11 of 24, but threw for 329 yards, good for an impressive 29.9 yards per completion. Saturday would be a milestone performance for Mason, as his 57-yard screen pass completion to S. Rodgers in the third quarter allowed him to surpass former LSU QB Tommy Hodson (1986-1989) in the record books to become the Tigers' all-time leading passer.

"That was a special moment for a special player who I still think is finding his way," said Geezy of Mason, a player he once recruited back when he was Tulane's head coach. "He's sitting at 9,245 yards right now, and is in position to absolutely shatter a record that's stood for almost 30 years. He still has a lot of football left to play."

LSU (7-3) will host rival Arkansas (4-6) next week at Tiger Stadium in what will be their home finale. The Razorbacks are hoping to become bowl eligible but have a tough road to climb, as they must defeat the Tigers and then win on the road versus current-#11 ranked Michigian St. (7-2) the following weekend.

QB Rob Mason and reserve safety/special teams ace Johnnie Smith, LSU's team captains, along with Ole Miss' team captains, QB Andre Clemons and CB Jermaine Herron, prepare for the coin toss in blistering cold conditions at Oxford.

All-purpose defender Matt Manning, who takes snaps at defensive end, defensive tackle, and at linebacker, celebrated with DE Justin McFarland following Manning's 43-yard interception return touchdown that gave the Tigers an early 7-0 lead. The interception return came as a result of heavy pressure on the quarterback applied by McFarland, who finished the game with a season-high 2 sacks.

Pic 1 of 2: QB Matt Harris was a part of the gameplan on Saturday and came in on this early drive to throw a pass. Harris so far has gone 7 of 9 for exactly 100 yards this year.

Pic 2 of 2: QB Rob Mason, who lined up in the slot in this special package, came away with a season-long 21-yard first down reception on the play. The versatile junior signal-caller has 4 receptions for 62 yards on the season, all for first downs.

True freshman return man Brady Carter Jr.'s rough rookie season continued on Saturday, as his muffed punt was recovered by Herron. The turnover gave the Rebels great field position, and five plays later, was cashed in for a touchdown that tied the game up at 7-7 in the first quarter.

Ole Miss redshirt senior RB Phil Harris had a monster day, rushing for a career-high 240 yards on 21 carries and 2 touchdowns, including this 58-yard score that gave his team a 14-7 lead.

Junior TE Lucas Rodgers jumped over the head of Ole Miss senior CB Dylan Mitchell and eventually turned this spectacular grab into a season-long 60-yard touchdown reception that tied the game back up at 14-14.

True freshman RB Scottie Rodgers' 42-yard touchdown run gave the Tigers a 21-14 lead in the second quarter. Rodgers, the younger brother of Lucas Rodgers, finished with 106 yards on the ground, his second straight 100-yard game.

On the opening possession of the second half, LSU star FS Trey Wade's big year continued when he stuffed Harris behind the line of scrimmage on 4th and inches, turning the ball back over to the Tigers offense with his team up 28-14.

Pic 1 of 2: On the very next play following the turnover on downs, Mason faked a handoff to RB Scottie Rodgers.

Pic 2 of 2: Following the playaction fake, Mason launched a deep pass to WR Glen Walker, who blew past CB Trenton Foster for a wide-open 58-yard touchdown reception that made the score 35-14 early in the third quarter.

Mason became LSU's all-time leading passer following a 57-yard pass completion to S. Rodgers on a screen. The Gretna, Louisiana native who teammates affectionately call White Mike, surpassed former Tigers QB Tommy Hodson (1986-1989) to cement his spot atop the record books.

Mike the Tiger was actin' a fool after Mason's 53-yard touchdown completion to Walker made the score 45-21 in the fourth quarter. Walker, LSU's #1 receiver on the depth chart who was held without a catch during last week's loss to Alabama, finished with 3 receptions for a season-high 133 yards and 2 touchdowns, giving him a team-high 6 touchdown catches this season.

Ole Miss fans lamented in the game's closing moments after watching their team lose its 7th straight to the arch-rival Tigers.

Great game for Geezy and the Tigers! Rob Mason absolutely went off, and I think that his ability to find Walker definitely propelled the offense forward. Seems like it was a rocky start for your offense, but like you said,

Mason's 60-yard touchdown connection with TE Lucas Rodgers tied the game back up at 14-14. Later, Rodgers' brother Scottie Rodgers' 42-yard second quarter touchdown, his 10th score this season, gave the Tigers a 21-14 lead that they'd never squander.
the Tigers really turned it on and didn't look back after that second touchdown that tied the game up. I still predict a 9-3 record by the end of the regular season, but I think the Razorbacks are gonna be hungry coming into this game, as they try to grab that sixth win for bowl eligibility. Keep it up, can't wait for more of Geezy and his Tigers this season!

Thanks, JP. Mason's season stats don't jump off the page too much - 2,810 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, 13 interceptions + 6 rushing touchdowns - but I must say, this has been one of the most fun QBs I have ever gotten to "coach." I am anxious to see how his year ends and to see how he does as a senior next season (assuming he doesn't shock us and declare early for the draft).

9-3 is definitely the goal, and it would also be great to get that elusive 10th win if we can pick up a bowl victory. It should be noted that LSU has only won double digit games twice over the course of this entire dynasty, in 2012 & 2020, so it would be a nice feather in Coach Geezy's cap if we can accomplish that feat in year 1.

Thanks as always for the reply and for continuing to follow along!
