LSU | O.C. Anthony High is high on Rob Mason
    Mon, 11 Oct 2027 11:21:10 -0700

Eve Jewell of ESPN's SEC Network reports that LSU first year O.C. Anthony High indicates that he has been impressed with the progression of Tigers junior QB Rob Mason (83 ovr) up to this point in the season.

Mason, a third year starter, has thrown for 1,629 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions so far this season to go along with 76 carries for 362 rushing yards, and 4 touchdowns. His 362 rushing yards represent a career-high, despite having only 76 carries this season compared to 136 carries for 159 yards as a freshman and 161 carries for 354 yards as a sophomore. The Gretna, Louisiana native and former 4-star recruit has accounted for a total of 10 touchdowns in his last three starts, including a 5 touchdown, 0 turnover game in this past weekend's win at Kentucky, and drew the praises of High during his media conference on Monday.

"I could not be happier about the way things have been going with Rob, or "White Mike" as some of the guys around here like to call him," said High of Mason, who has also contributed 41 receiving yards on 3 receptions this season which all went for first downs. "He's really starting to get a good grasp of the newly installed playbook and as I indicated back when I was hired, I think this kid has the potential to be special.

"I'm backing myself into a corner here since we only have him for this year and hopefully next year, but I honestly feel as though we can win an SEC Championship with this young man under center, and you can print that...as long as you guys don't go run and tell Coach Geezy I said it," High added with a wink as he walked out of the media room to laughter.

LSU | Big weekend of recruiting visits upcoming
    Mon, 11 Oct 2027 15:21:19 -0700

Jordan Hebert, a former LSU cheerleader and now a graduate student reporter for LSUSports.net, reports that the LSU Tigers will have a total of six prospects visiting their campus this weekend when they face arch rival Auburn, including 4-star North Carolina QB Johnnie James (6-2, 190 pounds, 5.02 40-time, #11 rated QB prospect), 4-star Texas LB Derek Kerr (6-4, 252 pounds, 4.38 40-time, #9 rated MLB prospect), and 4-star South Carolina WR Christian Smith (5-10, 172 pounds, 4.52 40-time, #6 rated WR).

According to team sources, Kerr is and has been the #1 rated player on LSU's recruiting board since the start of the team's 2028 recruiting campaign, and with his incredible size and speed, the team believes he could be a "game-changing player" for the Tigers' defense immediately. It is believed that LSU is "neck-and-neck" with Texas A&M and Oklahoma for the Wells Branch, Texas native's services, according to Rivals.com.

    Rounding out the team's list of visits this week are 3-star California ATH/DB Tommy Stewart III (6-2, 205 pounds, 4.44 40-time, #43 rated ATH prospect), 3-star Louisiana RB Darryl "D.J." Weaver (5-8, 208 pounds, 4.42 40-time, #67 rated RB prospect, juco-jr.), and 2-star Louisiana TE Devon Beck (6-5, 275 pounds, 4.62 40-time, #74 rated TE prospect, juco-so.).

2028 LSU Recruiting Class - through week 7 (currently rated 25th in the nation)

Agreed man...I love the idea that just because a team is lowly doesn't mean you can lay down and just expect to blow them out by showing up. I truly felt like I was in a dogfight against an underdog that happened to play its best game on that night. The energy of that stadium and crowd is one I will never forget; they had us on the ropes!

Those DBs aren't real fast. But I'm glad you're shoring up the secondary

Yeah I honestly can't say that I am super excited about Hardy or Walker. They could be serviceable depth early-on at worst I guess.

Vince Cromartie and Stevie Higgins look like studs though. Cromartie should come in with about 90 speed. He has a chance to be our #1 corner on day 1 based on his letter grade ratings I believe. Higgins may surprise too despite the 3-star rating; he seems a tad underrated, right on the cusp of being a 4-star prospect.

Game 7, Year 1 Preview (2027 season): Auburn Tigers at #19 LSU Tigers

Game Capsule: These two historical SEC rivals faced each other a season ago, and then-16th ranked Auburn knocked off LSU 31-24 at Jordan Hare Stadium. LSU QB Rob Mason threw for 282 yards and 3 touchdowns while WR Glen Walker hauled in 5 receptions for 123 yards and 2 scores but that was not enough, as LSU fell to Auburn one year after defeating them 34-31 in 2025 at Baton Rouge.

Auburn is a team that first year LSU head coach D. Geezy is very familiar with from his time at Tulane, as the former Green Wave coach holds a whopping 12-1 record versus the Tigers, including a 52-14 spanking the Wave put on them last fall at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Just noticed that you've had 4 of your 6 games decided by a single score. That's not typically sustainable from year to year according to the advanced stats people. So you'll be expected to do either much better or much worse next year. We can't really project that from here, but I thought it was a fun note.

Yes, Auburn seems to be in a bit of a down year - they do have a nice recruiting class coming in for next season I must add though.

I'm a bit worried about our secondary against their aggressive no huddle attack, especially coming off of the Kentucky game where we gave up over 500 passing yards and 5 passing touchdowns. I think our best defense in this one may be a sound running game offensively.

Ha...yeah it certainly feels like we're doing something unprecedented here. It's like I know my team isn't that great, but we've been extremely lucky and are fortunate to be sitting at 4-2 after so many close games. Don't look now, but if LSU comes out victorious in this one, all of a sudden we could (will?) be playing for at least a share of first place in the SEC West in a couple of weeks versus Bama. Crazy how quickly a team's narrative can change.

First things first though - gotta get past Auburn.

Thanks as always guys....Time to ball!

Game 7, Year 1 (2027 season): Auburn Tigers at #19 LSU Tigers

                      N/R 14 -- 2-4 (1-4)
                      #19 49 -- 5-2 (4-1)

QB Rob Mason scored three touchdowns to help LSU win its fourth straight game.

One week after getting shredded through the air by Kentucky, LSU's defense comes up big in 49-14 spanking over Auburn | Bayou Bengals' 'D' scores three touchdowns, all in the third quarter, to help pull away from SEC rivals | Red hot Tigers' fourth straight victory puts them in prime position in suddenly interesting SEC West picture | Huge home game on deck versus #16 Southern Miss before colossal conference matchup at #1 Alabama in three weeks

Baton Rouge, LA -- A week ago, LSU defensive coordinator Charles Kelly's defense surrendered 550 yards and 5 touchdowns through the air to Kentucky QB Charlie Hartman, a Wildcats school record. Saturday night, following a grueling week of practice to fix the leaks in his secondary, Kelly's group turned around the ship and starred in #19 LSU's 49-14 blowout victory over Auburn at Tiger Stadium. The home team's secondary, who came in ranked dead last in the nation versus the pass due mainly to last weekend's poor outing versus the Wildcats along with giving up over 500 yards to Texas Tech early in the season, hunkered down and came away with 4 interceptions, holding Auburn QB C.J. Collins to just 144 yards through the air while also accounting for 3 defensive touchdowns as a unit (2 interception returns, 1 fumble return).

Auburn had trouble corralling LSU true freshman RB Scottie Rodgers all evening long as he finished Saturday night with 114 total yards from scrimmage and a touchdown.

To start off the dominating night, RB Scottie Rodgers' 36-yard first quarter touchdown gave LSU a 7-0 lead that they'd never surrender, setting the tone for the contest. Rodgers finished the game with 14 carries for 90 yards to go along with 5 pass receptions for 24 yards before exiting the game late in the third quarter with the score out of hand.

"We really wanted to establish things on the ground tonight offensively, as we felt that would aid our defense," said LSU head coach D. Geezy. One of the things last week I felt we didn't do a good job of was playing complimentary football, as a defense's best friend is a sound running game."

LSU would go on to score the game's first 21 points, getting a touchdown pass and a touchdown run by QB Rob Mason, as the Tigers amassed a 21-7 lead going into the halftime break...but it was the third quarter when the Bayou Bengals' secondary began to flex and Collins' day suddenly went from bad to miserable.

True freshman CB Ryan Carter's interception return touchdown with 5:38 to go in the third quarter opened up the floodgates, expanding LSU's lead to 28-7. Literally, on Auburn's very next offensive play from scrimmage, true freshman SS Dominique Woods' 25-yard return touchdown made the score 35-7, blowing the game wide open.

The contest would essentially be put away when Mason found WR Glen Walker for a 92-yard touchdown, a career-long for both players, making the score 42-7 in the third quarter. Mason finished the night with 234 passing yards and 3 total touchdowns while Walker finished with 4 receptions for 119 yards and 2 scores, Walker's first 100-yard outing of the 2027 campaign. LSU's third quarter scoring barrage wasn't completed just yet...

FS Trey Wade (#8) jumped into the arms of DE Jon Jackson (#72) to celebrate his 47-yard fumble return touchdown in the second half. LSU scored 28 third quarter points to pull away from Auburn, aided by a whopping three defensive touchdowns during the period.
With just over a minute to go in the period, LSU backup MLB Justin Harris was able to jar the ball loose from RB Donnie Bonds following a short reception, and FS Trey Wade recovered and took it 47 yards to the house. Wade's second touchdown this season made the score 49-7 and signaled LSU to call off the dogs and insert their backups into the lineup for the remainder of the game.

"I felt like we had an outstanding week of practice, and we did a great job of disguising our blitzes and coverages and that all effected the passer," said Kelly, whose defensive unit finished with 3 sacks on the night. "After what happened last week, we really needed to bounce back in a big way and I could not be more proud of (defensive backs coach) Steve Ellis and our guys in the secondary.

"We're going to be tested from here on out, and we just have to be ready to respond and punch back, starting next week against another one of these grass basketball, no huddle offenses like the one we faced tonight."

LSU (5-2) will host #16 Southern Miss (5-2) next week in Baton Rouge. An opponent Geezy is very familiar with from his time at Tulane (Tulane plays Southern Miss in an annual rivalry matchup), the game will mark only the third meeting between the Tigers and the Golden Eagles and their first since 1994. The Tigers hopes to not get caught peeking ahead to their following game versus #1 Alabama.

"As we keep winning here, these games are just going to get bigger and bigger," said Geezy, whose team has now won four straight games and could very well be playing for first place in the SEC West in a couple of weeks.

"Southern Miss is a team I know very well and has given my Green Wave squads a lot of problems over the years, beating me 4 of the last 8 times I have faced them. We really need a good week of work before facing these guys, because they're the truth and, to me, can really beat anybody."

LSU fans cheered their team on as they exited the playing field as winners of four straight contests.

LSU returned home to take on arch-nemesis Auburn at sold out Tiger Stadium.

Coach D. Geezy wanted to get the running game established on Saturday and his team did just that as RB Scottie Rodgers finished with 14 carries for 90 yards, including this 36-yard first quarter touchdown that put LSU up 7-0.

The LSU cheerleaders would have plenty to cheer for on this night.

True freshman OLB Will McNeal and the Tigers defense converged on QB C.J. Collins for this first half sack. The sack was McNeal's team-leading 5th of the season.

WR Joe Burnett (#87) ran over to celebrate with WR Glen Walker (#4) following Walker's 7-yard touchdown reception that increased LSU's lead to 14-0.

Auburn CB Stevie Rhodes had QB Rob Mason's number Saturday night and came away with two interceptions.

Pic 1 of 3: QB C.J. Collins' nightmarish third quarter started when he threw this pass attempt to WR Al Hunter on a short hook pattern.

Pic 2 of 3: LSU true freshman CB Ryan Carter was all over the ill-advised throw and stepped in front of Hunter for the interception.

Pic 3 of 3: Carter, a 4-star recruit this past off-season out of Rayne, Louisiana would return the interception 45 yards for a touchdown that extended LSU's lead to 28-7. The pick gave Carter two on the season, both returned for scores.

LSU fans went nuts following Carter's interception return touchdown, but the defense wasn't done just yet.

On the very next play from scrimmage following Carter's pick-six, Carter's fellow true freshman DB Dominique Woods caught his first career interception, returning it 25 yards for a touchdown that increased LSU's lead to 35-7, and the pair of rookie defensive backs celebrated together in the end zone.

Walker caught a short pass, spun past a defender in the open field, and ran to paydirt on this sensational 92-yard touchdown that made the score 42-7 and virtually put the game away.

Auburn RB D.J. Anderson scored both of the visiting team's touchdowns Saturday night, though his 8-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter was too little too late.

LSU TE Lucas Rodgers, the Tigers' leading receiver this season, had a somewhat quiet evening, finishing with only 3 receptions for 47 yards, though all three catches went for first downs.

Collins was consoled by senior LG Charles Freeman after the game following his horrid 4-interception performance.

Well, that's a stark contrast to last weeks game that is for sure. Three defensive touchdowns! I am not sure I have seen that in a long time, I am 100% sure I have never had the pleasure of doing it myself.

Love the performance from Trey Wade, he kind of said: "Look, boss, I can play".

Didn't look past them, ay? Helluva run you've got this squad on. Interesting to see what kind of run you give the Tide

This felt like another one of those games that was pretty important to win based on the schedule the rest of the way. Good win and really love seeing the ebbs and flows over this season. It's a new way to win every week.
