Yep...This season wasn't just about the Tulane game, so we gotta move on and not allow the Green Wave to beat us two weeks in a row.

Great work as always though my friend and made for a great afternoon reading through and playing catch up. I know it sucks to take the Tulane game in the teeth but I have said it before and I will say it again, Rome wasn't built in a day. You are brand new to this program and have to take time to get your guys and your system up and running. Any sort of a bowl appearance and winning record this year, I will count as success.

I loved the press conference where Geezy was channeling his inner Bill Belichick. And as someone above mentioned your GIF game is on point.

Looking forward to seeing the South Carolina starting lineup. I will be curious to see if they are for real or just played cupcake teams here early on.

Also happy to see Big Blue and my Hokies putting in work!

Much love as always brother, you are crushing it as usual.
Ha, that first sentence is a perfect recap of the events of the past couple of weeks. What a humbling experience, going from scoring over 70 and wondering in the back of your mind if the game is now suddenly too easy, to basically getting shut out. And yes, Coach Geezy's reporter groupee drama reared its ugly head again. You had to know Erin would eventually come down to Louisiana at some point to handle up on this new broad she'd been hearing about in the reports the past few weeks and months.

It definitely hurt my confidence getting trounced by Tulane like that, but it does serve as a nice reminder that this isn't the LSU we have come to know in real life. In this universe, this is a mediocre/average program overall, and it will take some time to turn them into a contender of any kind. All of a sudden, making it to a bowl game feels like it could be a challenge.

I specifically gave VT a shoutout in the subtext for you since I know that's your squad. Looks like they may be becoming a factor again, as is your other team, Michigan.

Glad you picked up on the Belichick bit. It felt like the perfect fit for this situation. As I stated above to djp73, we can't let Tulane beat us twice. It was a fun, nostalgic game, and boy did I learn that I really miss that team and stadium a whole lot, but I have to move past it.

"Let the past die...kill it if you have to."

Thanks for the feedback as always brother, and good luck with the new place!

That Tulane game was a real come back to Earth moment for Geezy. I think if you had been luck enough to have Tulane at home then maybe things would've been different, but going into the Superdome after giving McBride and Co. all of that bulletin board material? It was a recipe for disaster. That really turns this SC game into a must win like you said, because your schedule is a murderer's row the further you get into it. Need to get the offense just moving manageably down the field, protect the ball, play smart, and grind out a big win!

Yeah man. It really gets nasty in the back half of the schedule. It makes a home date versus an unranked South Carolina team all the more important. Hopefully we can get this 'W' going into the bye week before facing Florida.

I would be elated if we can hold a team to 17 points; unfortunately there is enough film out there now of us being shredded via the pass, and I expect South Carolina to try to do the same versus our vulnerable secondary.

No question, this is a must-win. If we somehow manage to lose this one and drop to 1-3, we'd have to go 5-3 the rest of the way to become bowl eligible, and I honestly don't know if there are five more wins left on the schedule if I am looking at things objectively. This game very well may determine the type of season we could be in store for. Against a decent but ultimately unranked South Carolina squad, we absolutely must hold serve here at home. There is an absolute massive difference between 2-2 and 1-3.

Hopefully Rob Mason can rebound after last weekend's disaster and help us gut-out a crucial win.

              Haha...I appreciate it man.

Thankfully those guys were there to de-escalate the situation and keep those two ladies separated or things could have gotten very ugly...allegedly.

Time to get this one started...I am suddenly very nervous; what a critical game!

Man, what a rough go-around there with the old ball team. Mason totally sh***ing the bed is one of those things you're surprised to see but also not really. He'd been average at best to start the season. Really going to need a rebound performance against South Carolina.

Nonetheless, like mentioned earlier in the thread, "Rome wasn't built in a day" is a great phrase to use with LSU right now.

Thanks, Bigsheen. Yeah this is certainly a much bigger rebuilding project than imagined. This team is definitely not the LSU we've come to know in real life. This roster needs a lot of work, and we will need to grind out some hard fought games here in the early going. Tulane really showed us just how far away we have to go to get to the level we want to be at.

That said, it is a young roster overall, and we're set up very nicely for the future I believe.

Game 4, Year 1 (2027 season): South Carolina Gamecocks at LSU Tigers

                    NR 14 -- 2-1 (1-1)
                    NR 19 -- 2-2 (1-1)

QB Rob Mason and RT Derek Smith celebrate following Mason's first of two rushing touchdowns on the night.

With the game and perhaps the season on the line, LSU comes away with big plays late in a heart-pounding 19-14 victory over South Carolina | CB Jerome Harmon's redzone interception with under a minute remaining saves the day, caps off a magnificent defensive performance as Tigers claw their way to a big win | QB Mason and RB Rodgers show off their versatility, account for all three of LSU's touchdowns to help team improve to 2-2 | Tigers will host #7 Florida in two weeks following their bye

Baton Rouge, LA -- LSU came into this weekend's game versus South Carolina fresh off of back-to-back games in which they surrendered over 40 points to their opponents, including nearly giving up 50 in last weekend's ugly 49-21 blowout loss at Tulane. However, with everything on the line in this crucial early season SEC home matchup, the Tigers' defense came up with a masterful performance, limiting South Carolina to just two touchdowns and coming away with a big, game-clinching play late in a thrilling 19-14 win Saturday night at Tiger Stadium. QB Rob Mason ran for two touchdowns while RB Scottie Rodgers accounted for 188 yards from scrimmage and a score, giving the Tigers just enough offense to come up with a critical win to get back to .500 through the first quarter of the season.

True freshman RB Scottie Rodgers was a spark-plug all evening for the Tigers' offense, amassing 188 yards from scrimmage, including hauling in 7 receptions for 75 yards, both game-highs.

South Carolina (2-1) started the game off very strong. Gamecocks QB Ken Brooks led a 5-play 62-yard drive which concluded with an 8-yard touchdown pass to WR Dwayne Lowe that made the score 7-0 just over two minutes into the game.

Following an LSU three and out on its first possession, the visitors got the ball back with a chance to increase their early lead, however Brooks' interception thrown to Tigers DE/DT/LB Matt Manning set LSU up with a chance to tie the game back up, giving them possession of the football deep in Gamecocks territory. Rodgers' 6-yard touchdown made the score 7-6, however true freshman PK Ross Bryant missed the extra point, his second extra point miss of the season.

On the very next drive, Brooks' 6-yard touchdown pass to RB Roderick Fisher increased South Carolina's lead to 14-6, concluding a fast-paced first quarter and perhaps setting the tone for another bad day at the office for LSU defensive coordinator Charles Kelly's defense...or perhaps not.

The touchdown connection to Brooks and Fisher would be the last points scored on the night for South Carolina, as Kelly began to bring significantly more pressure from his 4-2-5 defensive scheme, and it effected the quarterback thoroughly, turning the Gamecocks' potent offense into a dysfunctional mess. Brooks' interception thrown to FS Trey Wade just before halftime halted the team's best scoring opportunity in the second quarter, and the score remained at 14-6 at halftime following a 47-yard field goal miss by Bryant to close out the first half.

Mason and the Tigers' offense had problems most of the first half getting things going, as the redshirt junior passer was sacked six times in the first half alone while Rodgers was held to just 6 carries for 12 yards through the game's first two quarters, however that changed in the second half as Rodgers' 47-yard burst on the very first play of the third quarter seemingly jump-started the offense. A 5-play 75-yard second half opening possession would culminate with a 24-yard touchdown run by Mason down the sideline, cutting LSU's deficit to 14-13 early in the third quarter.

Later, after the two teams traded possessions, LSU got the ball back late in the third quarter at their own 9-yard line still down by one. An epic 13-play, 91-yard drive that lasted 4:14, nearly half a quarter, would end with an 18-yard touchdown run up the middle by Mason, giving LSU its first lead of the game at 19-14 early in the fourth quarter. Mason finished the game 18 of 32 for 204 yards to go along with 41 rushing yards and the two scores, and he also contributed to the stat sheet in a new, unique way.

QB Rob Mason put his 4.4 speed to good use in the second half and came away with two touchdowns that helped the Tigers finally take the lead in the fourth quarter.
With Tigers offensive coordinator Anthony High introducing a new formation that saw Mason line up at wide receiver while sophomore QB Matt Harris lined up behind center, Mason also added 2 receptions for 29 yards, including a 19-yard reception from Harris on 3rd and 16 with 2:59 to play that set the Tigers up in the redzone with a chance to possibly put the game away. However, on a third and goal play with the ball at the 4-yard line, Gamecocks MLB Nick Davis stepped in front of TE Lucas Rodgers to come away with an interception near the goal line, giving South Carolina the ball back with 2:16 to go in the contest.

With the game, and possibly the season on the line, the Tigers needed their defense to come through with one more big stop. The Gamecocks went on a 9-play drive and were able to convert two big third down attempts, including one via an offsides penalty by true freshman LB Will McNeal, and eventually penetrated deep into LSU territory. However, two plays following McNeal's mistake, Brooks would throw an ill-advised pass in the direction of Lowe that was picked off by Tigers sophomore CB Jerome Harmon near the goal line with 0:52 remaining, sending Tiger Stadium into euphoria as the LSU band played Chinese Bandits with the game clinched via the turnover, allowing the Tigers to run out the clock.

"It won't show up on the stat sheet, but we pressured the hell out of them and that led to a lot of bad passes that were intercepted or batted down, including the one at the end there," said LSU head coach D. Geezy, whose team's defense was also stout against the run, holding Fisher to just 20 yards on 9 carries, just one week after giving up over 200 yards on the ground to Tulane RB Anthony Brown.

"The defense really raised the bar after what happened last weekend at the dome. Charles was on-point with his pressure calls and run blitzes and Jerome came away with a big play when we needed it the most. Just a perfectly, well-executed game on that side of the ball. Hats off to the defense for bailing us out there and also shout-out to the offense for bouncing back after being shutout last weekend. Boy did we really need this win going into the break."

LSU (2-2) will host #7 Florida (2-1) in two weeks after its week 5 bye.

LSU players get hyped up in the pregame tunnel as they prepare to take the field for a critical SEC matchup at home versus South Carolina.

After last weekend's alleged drama, it was no surprise to see LSU head coach D. Geezy's wife H. Geezy in the front row behind the Tigers' bench instead of her usual suite accommodations.

Gamecocks QB Kenny Brooks had no issues discecting the LSU defense on this 5-play 62-yard opening drive that culminated with a touchdown and gave the visitors a 7-0 lead.

Tigers junior TE Lucas Rodgers and South Carolina OLB Alan Haumiller jawed at each other early in the game and had to be separated.

Tigers all-purpose defender Matt Manning, who at 6-2 300 pounds lines up at defensive end, defensive tackle, and outside linebacker, came away with this athletic interception in the first quarter which led to a short field and a touchdown that cut the Tigers' deficit to 7-6.

Pic 1 of 2: QB Matt Harris saw his first significant action of the season in a special package that involved LSU lining up with an empty backfield with QB Rob Mason in the slot.

Pic 2 of 2: Mason, who during the off-season Tigers offensive coordinator Anthony High teased that he could see snaps at receiver at some point this year, came away with his first of two receptions on the night, both of which went for first downs.

FS Trey Wade came away with a big interception just before halftime with South Carolina driving, helping the Tigers keep its deficit at 14-6 before the break. The interception was Wade's team-leading third of the season.

The Tigers' offensive line woes continued Saturday night, as the unit surrendered 8 sacks to the Gamecocks vaunted pass rush, including a pair by DT Jason Gibbons (#3).

Early in the fourth quarter, Mason was able to fit this pass in nicely over the head of South Carolina MLB Drew Walker and into the hands of Lucas Rodgers, who finished the game with 4 receptions for 54 yards.

Mason high-fives Lucas Rodgers following his 18-yard touchdown run that completed an epic 13-play 91-yard drive that lasted 4:14 and gave LSU its first lead of the game at 19-14.

With the Tigers driving late and hoping to put the game away, Gamecocks LB Nick Davis stepped in front of Rodgers on this would-be touchdown pass with 2:16 remaining, helping to keep his team in the contest late.

With the game on the line and South Carolina in the redzone, LSU sophomore nickel CB Jerome Harmon jumped in front of WR Dwayne Lowe and came away with this magnificent leaping interception near the end zone with 0:45 remaining to preserve the Tigers' victory.

Following his late mistake, Brooks had to be consoled by DE Mike Dukes as the Gamecocks took their first loss of the season.

RB Scottie Rogers salutes the crowd on his way back into the tunnel. The true freshman running back finished the contest with 188 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown to help the Tigers improve to 2-2 heading into their bye week.

excellent win, hopefully that will kick off a win streak for y'all
Florida doesn't look too scary and it's at home so I like your chances

your box score indicates you made the final point after but the score doesn't reflect that. did he miss another xp or did you go for 2??

Thanks man...it was a two-point conversion fail. I typed in "Bryant kick" out of habit I guess (or just another case of me rushing to get this done before leaving for work lol).

Disagree on Florida. Their team is legit. As you will see in a few days, they may have the best offense in college football. Not only that, but they return most of their starters from the team that beat my Tulane squad in last year's SEC title game, so there is a bit of a personal bone to pick with them. Should be a great game and hopefully this new-found defensive success can continue for another week.

I looked at the team ratings when making my assumptions about Florida. I forgot you are only a C+ team though. Also looks like their defense is holding teams pretty well. Could be a tough one, also forgot you lost to them last season. Godspeed sir.

Yep...in this dynasty universe, this isn't the LSU we've all come to know. We are a very, very average/mediocre program and we are a few years away from being at the level of Bama, Florida, and Tulane. Those three teams are really the class of the SEC right now.

The Gators' speed scares the hell out of me. I am taking a short break this weekend and will observe the bye week, but will have the Florida preview posted some time early next week for all to see. However if you'd like a brief glimpse of what's to come, this is what they looked like last season, and most of their main cast returns: 2026 Florida Gators Lineup

By the way, thanks again for following this so closely. For you to figure out so quickly that there was a single extra point unaccounted for in the game recap shows just how closely you're paying attention. Much appreciated brother.

speed is huge in this game and the big Florida schools usually have a plethora of it, visions of short gains turning into 60 yard TDs are probably dancing in Geezy's head.

I try to really focus whern I read someone's reports and I guess I'm a bit of a numbers nerd too. After you'd mentioned the missed point after I noticed the 19 and wondered if he'd missed another.
