I do need to pass along some horrible news though regarding one of this dynasty’s characters/reporters. Carley McCord, a local New Orleans TV news anchor and the daughter-in-law of current real-life LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger, died in a plane crash on Saturday morning. She and 7 other people boarded a private jet to head to Atlanta for the Tigers' CFB Playoff game, and the jet crashed shortly after takeoff.

On the personal side, and believe me when I say that this isn't a brag because I didn't pay for this myself and this is definitely not some everyday thing I do - But I literally just so happened to be boarding a private jet with seven other people to head to Atlanta for the game yesterday morning as this information came through, so we were all shaken in more ways than one. It was not known that Carley was a victim until around the time we were set to land, so we were all in stunned silence for quite some time.

Anyway, prayers for the McCord and Ensminger families; may Carley, and all of the other victims in this tragedy, rest in peace.

Needless to say, I feel compelled to clean this thread up a good bit when time permits.
I saw this story yesterday and it reminded me of you because this thread is the only reason I knew of her. Thoughts and prayers to the LSU family.

First and foremost, thoughts and prayers regarding all those lost in that horrible tragedy.

On a different note, I'm glad that the pace of the reporting has slowed down (albeit temporarily) because it gave me a chance to catch up on everything that's gone down here, Geezy! Loved the offseason reporting and all the wrinkles that were put in places regarding coaching changes, and they seemed to have really played a big role in both the emergence of Rodgers as a Heisman caliber performer and just the offense as a whole. Honestly, when you started 5-0 and had such an explosive start with the offense, I thought this may be a Matt Rhule-esque turnaround where you're winning 11-12 games by season two and in the national title hunt. However, Rob Mason seems to really have an Achilles' heel sometimes when it comes to ball security and that really bit you. The Alabama loss was tough as well, but having your two losses come at the hands of two of the only five unbeatens across the entire nation, I don't think you can be too upset at that other than being upset that you honestly could have won both if some things had just swung a bit differently.

Can't wait to see you back and reporting in full swing again, excited to see what both the rest of the season and the offseason has in store! Best of luck on the field and of course in your personal life away from the console as well!

Haha...yeah I figured that if I am going to get this thing restarted, now is about as good of a time as any. Life was going about 200 mph for a solid 3-4 months (busy at work, busy with the family, plus got involved in a few extra-curricular programs, both at work as well as in the community), but things are easing back down now. I also won't lie, LSU winning the natty in real life kind of stole some of my thunder for me with this dynasty report in a weird way, but now we're far enough removed from that.

I am really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things, and plan to play this Ole Miss game this evening.

Thanks guys...it feels great to be back and to see that so many folks are still around!

EDIT: I just realized this morning that there was a bye week before my Ole Miss game and I somehow forgot to post the results even though the work was already done. So I just edited my original Ole Miss preview post from the other day and re-added the preview this morning as a new post in order to keep everything in the proper sequence. Just wanted to point that out in case anyone was confused.

                  ....................17 1/2....................

2027: QB Rob Mason (LEFT) threw for 329 yards and 4 touchdowns and WR Glen Walker (RIGHT) was his main benefactor, grabbing 3 receptions for 133 yards and 2 touchdowns as then-#19 LSU blew the brakes off of Ole Miss last season at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Last Meeting: In the latest installment of a historical SEC rivalry matchup that spans all the way back to 1894, LSU defeated Ole Miss 52-21 last season at Oxford in a game that was close early, but not for long.

LSU star RB Scottie Rodgers' 42-yard touchdown run broke a 14-14 second quarter tie, and that opened up the floodgates as the Tigers would go on to outscore the Rebels 38-7 to conclude the game. Rodgers finished the contest with 171 scrimmage yards, including 106 rushing yards, and QB Rob Mason, despite completing only 11 passes, threw for 329 yards and 4 scores.

The win improved LSU head coach D. Geezy's overall record versus Ole Miss to 13-1, with 12 of those wins coming during his time at Tulane. His lone loss came in 2020, when the then-#5 ranked Green Wave were stunned by an unranked Rebels squad in a 38-31 upset loss in overtime at Oxford.

OU's poor season sorta makes that last game of the season not seem so big any more.. At this point I don't really see you struggling to win the last 3 games. Now the question is how will things finish out with everyone else.

I actually played a 2 loss LSU team in the Natty last year in my dynasty over a 1 loss Minnesota and Oregon, with my BSU team. Could we see it happen again in yours if you win out and the Tide take a loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl or maybe Championship week gets crazy

Not going to lie man, it wasn't until this morning that I remembered just how juicy the top of the standings are as this season winds down. #1 Alabama still has to play #4 Florida in the SEC title game, and #2 USC has a showdown with #3 Notre Dame still on the schedule, so this thing is going to have a photo finish.

You're a lot more optimistic about my chances than you are. My money is on a Bama-USC title game.

Time to finally get this Ole Miss game in! Hopefully I'm not too rusty.

Ole Miss looks super suspect. Surprised the line isn’t even higher lol.

Glad to see you back at this man.

Ha...I try not to think about that. We are going to be a bit thin next year. I think we will be fine at QB, as I have a redshirt junior named Matt Harris (82 ovr) waiting in the wings to take over for Mason. The offensive line also will be solid next year, as I have some good young depth on the bench right now.

However, the WR position and defensive line are going to be major issues for us going into next year unless a miracle occurs this off-season and the recruiting gods do us a solid.

And yes, after seeing how this game went, Vegas probably took a nice lick on this one...

                              #9 65 -- 8-2 (5-2)

Sophomore RB Scottie Rodgers has some fun with Mike the Tiger following his career-long 90-yard fourth quarter touchdown run.

After a slow start, #9 LSU clicks on all cylinders, blows away overwhelmed Ole Miss in a 65-14 laugher | Mason, Rodgers brothers all shine as Tigers score 59 unanswered points after trailing 14-6 in the second quarter | RB Scottie Rodgers strengthens his Heisman candidacy with career-best 201-yard rushing performance | Tigers now turn attention to avenging last season's disappointing loss to Arkansas, will face Razorbacks next week at Fayetville

Baton Rouge, LA -- Looking for a big rebound game following a disappointing loss in their last outing two weeks ago, #9 LSU somehow found themselves trailing 14-6 with under five minutes remaining in the first half Saturday evening versus heavy underdog Ole Miss. However, after the slow start, several of its star players put the team on their backs as the Tigers went on to score 59 straight points in a 65-14 blowout win at Tiger Stadium. Jump-started by sophomore sensation Scottie Rodgers' 54-yard touchdown run, the Tigers' 28-point third quarter outburst was enough to overwhelm a Rebels squad that just did not have enough to punch back.

RB Scottie Rodgers could not be contained on Saturday as the sophomore finished with 247 yards from scrimmage and 2 touchdowns.

After going down 14-6, QB Rob Mason's 50-yard touchdown hookup with TE Lucas Rodgers cut their team's deficit to 14-13 midway through the second quarter. Mason finished the game with 315 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 rushing touchdown, while L. Rodgers finished with 6 grabs for 115 yards.

CB Jerome Harmon's interception with Ole Miss backed up deep in its own territory just before halftime led to a 42-yard field goal by PK Ross Bryant that gave the Tigers a 16-14 halftime lead. Harmon finished the game with 2 interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown late, to go along with a fumble recovery.

                              S. Rodgers' aforementioned 54-yard touchdown run on just the second play of the third quarter was later followed up by Mason's 16-yard rushing touchdown, followed by a 51-yard interception return touchdown by freshman CB Vince Cromartie just 32 seconds later. Moments later, Mason's 36-yard touchdown toss to senior WR Glen Walker capped off a 28-point third quarter that put the Tigers ahead 44-14, and Ole Miss (4-6) just never recovered.

"It certainly felt good getting back out there after our last outing didn't end the way we wanted it," said LSU head coach D. Geezy, whose team fell to #1 ranked Alabama 38-28 two weeks ago at home. "Going into a bye week following a loss is never ideal, and the two weeks felt a lot more like several months. Needless to say, I love the way the team responded to the early adversity and rose to the challenge."

Before the team pulled most of its starters due to the score being out of hand, S. Rodgers' career-long 90-yard touchdown run put LSU ahead 51-14. He ended the night with 10 carries for a career-high 201 yards, and 2 touchdowns, to go along with 4 receptions for 46 yards, giving him 1,599 scrimmage yards on the year and 21 total touchdowns.

"Scottie is really, really special, and I think he is only just now starting to come into his own," said Tigers offensive coordinator Bryce Allen. "His ability to make people miss in space and his ability to separate once he gets into the open field is uncanny, and he makes my job a whole lot easier."

LSU (8-2) will travel to Fayetville to face Arkansas (6-5). The Razorbacks are led by true freshman QB Jace Johnson, who chose Arkansas over LSU on National Signing Day this past off-season. The Tigers will be hoping to avenge last season's 30-20 upset loss to the Razorbacks in Baton Rouge.

LSU senior TE Lucas Rodgers (#13) gets congratulated by his younger brother Scottie (#33) and senior WR Chase Doyle (#83) after a first quarter reception that made him the school's all-time receiving yardage leader, besting former Tigers TE Kevin Dunn's career mark of 3,670 yards set during the 2014-2017 campaigns. With 259 career receptions for 3,774 yards and 23 touchdowns, Rodgers is only one catch away from tying Dunn's school record 260 receptions, and is four scores away from Dunn's record of 27 receiving touchdowns, with three games remaining.

LSU players tapped the Win Bar as they took the field hoping to get back on track following their 38-28 home loss two weeks ago versus top-ranked Alabama.

Ole Miss LB Jeff Hines' jarring hit on RB Scottie Rodgers early in the contest set an early positive tone for the Rebels as they jumped out to an early lead, however that feeling was very short-lived.

With his team facing a 14-6 first half deficit, LSU senior TE Lucas Rodgers' 50-yard second quarter touchdown reception cut the deficit to 14-13 and got the Tigers rolling.

The fans at Tigers Stadium celebrated sophomore PK Ross Bryant's 42-yard field goal that gave LSU a 16-14 lead as the first half clock expired despite the team's shaky performance through two quarters.

Sophomore RB Scottie Rodgers rushed for 2 touchdowns and a career-best 201 yards on just 10 carries, including this one where he spun past FS Billy Mann on his way to a 54-yard score that increased the Tigers' lead to 23-14 just seconds into the third quarter.

Ole Miss WR Ryan Smith had a big performance, hauling in 6 receptions for 98 yards and 1 touchdown, however LSU senior FS Mario Reed stripped him of the football deep in Tigers territory and junior CB Jerome Harmon recovered it to help LSU maintain its 23-14 lead.

QB Rob Mason threw for 315 yards and 2 touchdowns on the evening and also scored on this 16-yard run that increased the Tigers' lead to 30-14 in the third quarter.

LSU's defense had a magnificent night in the turnover department, finishing the game with 7 forced turnovers, including this interception by freshman CB Vince Cromartie that got returned 51 yards for a touchdown that made the score 37-14.

Pic 1 of 2: Mason faced some pressure from DT John Clark (#71) but was able to find a hole in the Rebels' zone defense.

Pic 2 of 2: Senior WR Glen Walker was the benefactor of a beautiful throw from Mason, as he hauled it in and out-raced the Rebels secondary to the end zone for a 36-yard touchdown that made the score 44-14 and capped off a 28-point third quarter for the Tigers.

LSU nickel defender Jerome Harmon, who now leads the nation with 8 interceptions on the season, hauled-in two picks on the evening, including this one that was returned 42 yards for a fourth quarter touchdown that put the Tigers over the 60-point mark for only the second time under second year LSU head coach D. Geezy.

RB Scottie Rodgers salutes the LSU faithful as he exits the field following another productive outing. With 886 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns to go along with his 62 receptions for 713 yards and 8 receiving touchdowns with three games remaining, Rodgers hopes to cement himself in Tigers history by becoming the school's first Heisman winner since RB Billy Cannon in 1959.
