Fall Camp 2037: FSU Ready to Defend Their Title

Tallahassee, FL – The defending National Champions are back and ready for action in 2037! With a roster that looks quite different from last season, the biggest question coming into Fall Camp was: Who will be the starting quarterback?

Quarterback Battle

The Seminoles lost their star quarterback Parker Ficken to the Baltimore Ravens as the 2nd overall pick in the NFL Draft. This left a significant void at the quarterback position, and the competition was fierce. Here’s a breakdown of the returning QBs:

Surprise of the Camp

The surprise of the camp so far has been the development of Neil Schulters. Initially thought to be the backup after the Championship Game in February, Schulters has been extremely solid. A former high school linebacker, Schulters is a tough, gritty guy who will put his nose in there and do things a normal QB shouldn't do, but definitely has the ability to make the throws. He was impressive in the Spring game, going 6-10 for 77 yards and 1 TD, and adding 84 yards rushing with a TD as well.

Starting QB Announced

Head Coach Cameel Verner announced after Fall Camp that the starting QB this fall will be Arian Decastro, the former five-star and #2 overall player coming out of high school. Decastro has four starts under his belt in reserve roles, making him the logical choice. Interestingly, while Ty Griffen was thought to be the would-be backup given his impressive resume as a five-star recruit, the depth chart lists Ty Griffen and Neil Schulters as co-backups.

Running Backs

The Noles have an impressive bunch at running back. During the open portions available to the media, senior KiJon St. James (5'8", 234 lbs), freshman Duane Delmas (6'1", 240 lbs), and George Ogunbowale (5'11", 232 lbs) are going to be a punishing group to watch. Last year, the Noles threw the ball on 83% of their snaps, but this season looks to be different with a more balanced attack.

Offensive Line and Tight Ends

The Noles have gotten bigger on the offensive line, recruiting three five-star OL to beef up the trenches: OT Leo Zahursky (6'6", 320 lbs), Greg Hockenson (6'7", 315 lbs), and Dalvin Sparks (6'8", 340 lbs). They return All-World left tackle Cortez Hamilton (6'8", 351 lbs) as well. At tight end, the Noles are bigger than last year, returning JR Hassaan President (6'5", 247 lbs), RS FR Vai Ringo (6'6", 251 lbs), FR Jeremy Kashama (6'6", 254 lbs), and FR Chauncey Hayden (6'7", 252 lbs).

Wide Receivers - "Hellcats and Trackhawks 2"

Last year's starting QB Parker Ficken nicknamed the WR group "Hellcats and Trackhawks" due to their amazing speed and playmaking abilities. Now that that a four of those receivers from that corps have moved on to the NFL, this year's WR group is undoubtedly faster than last year's record-setting corps. Nine of the ten receivers in the group this year run a sub-4.3 40-yard dash:

Defensive Line and Linebackers

Defensively, the Noles are naturally known to be physical. They return All-American edge Jonathan Wusu, who had 14 sacks last year. With Erick Ruggs and Radavious Butler moving on to the NFL, the question begs: who will step up on the other side of the SAMs? Junior Edge Maalik Garland (6'6", 283 lbs) has extensive experience as a reserve, playing in every game of his career so far. True freshman Elton Dalton (6'4", 304 lbs) and Benard Hardy (6'3", 265 lbs) have been surprises in camp. Redshirt freshman Kameron Sexton (6'6", 263 lbs) has put on amazing muscle and could play a huge role this season.

Defensive Backs

The Noles lost last year's starting CB Emon Drango to the transfer portal, but All-American Robert Zavala returns for his junior season. Brenden Fuentes, a former five-star recruit, has excellent size (6'3", 200 lbs) and doesn't look like a freshman at all. Vernon Amundson (6'3", 205 lbs) still looks to be the Hawk (Slot CB) position to lose, with Kevin Jennings and Matthew Muhammad moving all over the field. Freshman Keke Adeoye (6'4", 215 lbs) from Miami, FL, has been a surprise, built like a prototype and moving so fluidly.

DC Ryan Dukes: Freshman Keke Adeoye by far. He's a big guy—6'4", runs like a deer, and is fairly new to football, having only started playing in 11th grade. He's mostly been playing basketball. He's raw in talent, but man, he jumps out at you. Also, Freshman Brenden Fuentes. He's a player. He's a guy we wanted bad, and he made it clear why in the first few minutes of camp. He's just one of those guys that really allows us to be multiple and do different things.

DC Ryan Dukes: We've got a lot of talented young guys coming in, and it's all about putting them in the best position to succeed.
