    Rutgers 2012 Season Preview

    Screen-Shot-2019-09-22-at-7-45-05-PM

Coach Ross did a nice job with the 2012 edition of the schedule. Originally slated to play MAC opponent Kent State and and rival Navy now in the ACC, Coach Ross along with the Athletic Department scheduled much better, more high profile games.

It was no surprise when Coach Ross got on board he wanted to recruit the state of Florida and more importantly the south in general. It seems he's putting his money where his mouth is. In Week 3 the Scarlet Knights will travel to face C-USA power Central Florida. A Golden Knights team who just missed out on the top 25 last season and much stronger opponent than Kent State.

In what could be an even bigger matchup, Coach Ross is taking his team on the road to Arkansas, the preseason ranked #24 team in the country. Arkansas finished 8-5 last year and upset a #15 ranked Michigan team in the Gator Bowl 34-13.

The Scarlet Knights also travel to Florida to take on conference opponent South Florida and they head to the old tobacco road and take on new Big East member Wake Forest in North Carolina. All in all they will have four games in the "south" and no doubt can leave a lasting footprint in the region.

Rutgers will have a couple big home games this season. They will welcome Louisville to New Jersey however it will be a non-conference game as the Cardinals were promoted to the ACC after wining the Big East last year. Along with Louisville, tow other non-conference teams will come to Jersey. The Army Black Knights make the trip to finish their two game home and home set started last season. Lastly an important regional battle with Boston College out of the ACC will take place in Week 4.

Feisty Army Squad Scores An Upset, Knocks Off Rutgers To Open Up The Season

      Screen-Shot-2019-09-23-at-4-08-59-PM

      Week 2
      September 1, 2012
      New Brunswick, NJ

College football finally made its return to New Jersey on Saturday afternoon as the Scarlet Knights played host to the Army Black Knights at SHI Stadium in New Brunswick. Rutgers jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead and would hold multiple leads of 10 points in the 2nd half. Unfortunately for them Army was a thorn in their side all day and wouldn't go away, clawing back and eventually taking the lead 28-24 with just over a minute left.

      Quarterbacks
At first take it was almost exactly the same as last year for the Scarlet Knights and Chas Dodd. Almost as if time hadn't moved forward a year. The team on their opening drive marched down field with relative ease and was ready to score when Chas Dodd threw an interception in the end zone, nullifying any momentum. Dadd was notorious last year for opening drive interceptions and intersections in the end zone. Something he admitted he had to cut down on to take the next step as a QB.

Dodd would make up for the pick two drives later by finding true freshman TE Joel Andrews for a 5 yard TD. Andrews first of his career, giving RU a 7-0 lead. It was Dodd's only passing TD of the day as RU would struggle to finish off drives. Dodd would finish with 307 yards on top of the score and int.

Army senior QB Trent Steelman had himself a game. Last season he threw for 248 yards and a score keeping his team in it until the very end. This season he topped that performance scoring two TD's and totaling over 300 yards combined (288 passing, 37 rushing). With a new HC in Pete Jefferson who finally got rid of the triple-option and installed a pro-style offense it seems Army is ready to take advantage of its weapons.

      Running Backs
Junior First Team All-American Jawan Jamison lived up to the billing to open up the season. Jamison carried the ball 28 times for 169 yards and two scores. His score in the 2nd quarter put RU on top 14-0. His final TD came in the 3rd on a beautiful 14 yard 3rd and long draw play. That score at the time put RU up 21-7.

Senior back up DeAntwan Williams carried the ball just 2 times, but did manage 24 yards on two long runs.

Army running back Malcolm Brown just missed reaching the century mark as he finished with 98 yards on the ground. He too would find the end zone twice for his club. His final score in the 4th quarter brought Army to within 3 at 24-21.

      Wide Receivers
Rutgers was able to keep at least 1 of their star junior receivers from last season, as Mark Harrison bolted for the draft. Sanu stayed, though he didn't have an electric start start to the 2012 campaign as he and many were hoping. He would finish with 77 yards on 5 catches having a good day by most standards.

True Freshman Joel Andrews caught 2 passes in his debut for 15 yards, including the touchdown in the first quarter. His mentor senior DC Jefferson caught 3 passes for 61 yards in a strong showing for the TE's.

Jawan Jamison caught 4 balls for 75 yards as he continues to be a dual threat out of the back field.

Army WR Jared McFarlin led all receivers with 130 yards. His 76 yard catch and run in the 4th quarter set up the game winning touchdown. Steelman would find WR Patrick Laird from 12 yards out to go up 28-24 with just over a minute left.

      Defense
Both defenses played relatively well in todays game as neither side looked to slow to start the season. Both teams would force a turnover in the game. As we mentioned Army LB Justin Trimble intercepted Dodd int in the end zone. For Rutgers they recover a Malcolm Brown fumble in the 3rd quarter. The fumble led to a 38 yard FG from freshman kicker Robby Harrell. His first collegiate FG.

UCF comes into the game led by junior QB Jeff Godfrey who threw for 167 yards and 2 scores vs Akron last week. Central Florida also boasts a two headed beast at running back. Brynn Harvey and Latavius Murray both expect to hear their names called come April in the NFL Draft.

Rutgers Survives a Nail-Biter vs UCF, Avoids Another Late Loss

          Screen-Shot-2019-09-24-at-12-17-20-PM

          Week 3
          September 8, 2012
          Orlando, FL

Coming off a 4th quarter loss to Army last weekend, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights found themselves again in a position to give up points late and lose the game. This time against a much tougher opponent in Central Florida. Luckily for the Scarlet Knights there fortune was reversed from last week, they would force a 4-and-out with just about a minute left and kneel away the clock for a huge 31-28 win vs UCF.

          Quarterbacks
Be still our hearts! Chas Dodd went a full game without throwing an interception. Its the little victories for the junior signal caller. Dodd earned player of the game honors throwing for 250 yards and a score, while also tallying a rushing score on a QB sneak. His 21/36 throwing the ball was good for a 58% completion percentage. Early in the 2nd quarter Dodd was sacked hard and had the wind knocked out of him. Redshirt freshman Gary Nova came in for three plays and completed a one pass.

Central Florida QB junior Jeff Godfrey did his part into days game, but just came up short in the end. Godfrey was good for 17/28 passing for 268 yards and a TD. A 24 yard strike to Jared Greenaway to bring UCF within 3, at 17-14 at the half.

          Runningbacks
Both teams came in to todays game with premier running backs. While UCF's Brynn Harvey may have had the better day, Jawan Jamison and Rutgers still came away with the win. Jamison busied his way to 81 yards on 16 carries against a tough UCF front seven. His 3 yard TD run-in the 3rd quarter put RU up 24-14 heading into the final quarter.

UCF features a two-headed monster in their backfield consisting of Brynn Harvey and Latavius Murray, both seniors. Rutgers lucky for them just had to deal with Harvey today. Though he still got the best fo the Scarlet Knights D, keeping his UCF squad in the game all afternoon. Harvey would score 3 times in the contest, including twice in the 4th quarter bringing his team to within 3 each time. Outside of the redzone he was rather contained however, running for 72 yards on 24 carries.

          Wide Receivers
For Rutgers it was an impressive day for their receiving core and tight ends, as 8 different players hauled in a catch. Leading the way was red-shirt freshman Miles Shuler, Shuler finished with 4 catches and 61 yards. Tight End DC Jefferson and HB Jawan Jamison also brought in 4 passes each.

The lone scoring reception again came to freshman TE Joel Andrews from 5 yards out, the freshman 2nd TD in as many games. Senior stud wide out Mohamed Sanu finished with 3 catches for 41 yards in the win.

Brynn Harvey not only scored 3 rushing TD's but he also led his team in catches and receiving yards, going off for 7/90 out of the backfield. He was setting up his team all day and keeping them alive on big 3rd downs screen plays.

Junior wideout Jared Greenaway hauled in the only TD reception of the game for the Knights just before the 1st half ended.

          Defense
Minus allowing the 3 rushing TD's to Brynn Harvey the RU defense played an exceptionally well game. Not seeing Latavius Murray much definitely helped as they controlled him to just 1 catch. The secondary was able to keep their receivers in front of them all game and didn't get beat a single time downfield. All-American DT Scott Vallone continued to show why he is a beat up front with a career high 3 sacks in the game.

For UCF, their star studded defense was unable to stop the Rutgers passing attack. It seemed as if someone was always open throughout the game and Dodd took advantage finding 8 different receivers during the game leaving the UCF defenders pointing fingers at one another. The front seven did give Jamison some fits early, though he was able to break a couple decent runs.

The Rutgers special teams also got a score when UCF true freshman Punter/Kicker Barrett Johnson had his punt blocked in the end zone and it was recovered by RU giving the team a 14-0 lead.

          Next
Rutgers will head home to face off against the Boston College Eagles out of the ACC. Stay tuned for a game brief game preview.

Both teams come into this regional matchup completely healthy, which is pretty hard to say. Rutgers is coming off a huge win vs a tough Central Florida squad. This of course after being upset at home by Army the week before. Rutgers looks to defend their home turf this week against the 0-1 Eagles. Boston College is coming off of a 27-24 OT loss at home last week at the hands of Maryland.

Many of Boston College's players hail from the state of New Jersey as the school has set up a pipeline. This is something Rick Ross wants to change, one of the Eagles best players senior TE Chris Pantale is from 20 minutes away in Somerset, NJ.

            JR QB Chase Rettig (84) - 14/28, 194 yards, 2 TD, Int

JR HB Andre Williams (88) - 24 car, 121 yards, TD, 3 rec, 45 yards

Rutgers Offense Is A No Show, Suffer Terrible Loss To Boston College in OT

              Screen-Shot-2019-09-25-at-1-34-00-PM

              Week 4
              September 15, 2012
              New Brunswick, NJ

Anytime you look at a boxscore and see a team forced 6 turnovers, more times than not you're going to assume that team won. That wasn't the case tonight in New Jersey, as the Scarlet Knights wasted a perfect opportunity for a win against the Boston College Eagles. Rutgers offense was a no show most of the night, no thanks in part to star HB Jawan Jamison leaving with a concussion early in the game. The anemic pace of the Rutgers offense would cost them in the end as they would fall 40-34 in 3 OT.

              Quarterbacks
It's no surprise that when Rutgers QB Chas Dodd is accurate and sharp, the team is in good hands, it's when he struggles there may be no worse QB in the NCAA. Dodd completed just 50 percent of his passes in todays game and for that he can thank Coach Ross for calling short, quick pass plays. From the first quarter Dodd's accuracy was shaky making RU rely on the run more than they wanted with Jamison hurt.

Dodd would throw one interception in the game but it came in the end zone as you might have guessed. His only TD throw came in the 3rd quarter to freshman TE Joel Andrews who is becoming quite the security blanket in the red-zone. Dodd would also have 2 rushing TD's on QB sneaks as Rutgers couldn't get ANYTHING going in the red-zone.

Boston College QB Chase Rettig had a huge 2nd half helping lead his team to victory. He would throw for more than 200 yards and 3 scores in the final half of play including over time. His pass to Colin Larmond Jr. on the first play of OT 3 was a beautiful pass no one could have covered. His 2nd half play made up for his first half struggles including, two interceptions and two fumbles.

              Running Backs
In order for Rutgers to have success it is key for All-American back Jawan Jamison to be out there. Unfortunately after just 2 drives he had to leave with a concussion. His backup, senior DeAntwan Williams did a great job filling in breaking the 100 yard mark and scoring once. He also tied the team lead with 5 receptions. His score from 5 yards out in the first OT tied the game at 31.

Boston College HB Andre Williams was contained for the most part, all game although he did do damage in the red-zone, accumulating 3 TD's (2 rushing, 1 receiving). Williams single handedly gave the Eagles a 14-7 lead in the 2nd quarter. He would then score their next TD on a 7 yard reception from Rettig in the 3rd.

              Wide Receivers
For all the fuss made about Dodds inaccuracy the RU wideouts didn't do much to bail him out as they totaled 4 drops on the game. Getting open in the red-zone continues to be a problem, unless your 6'7" true freshman TE Joel Andrews, who hauled in his 3rd TD catch in as many games, essentially the lone bright spot for RU all season, besides Jamison.

Mohamed Sanu had 5 catches tying for the team lead and Jeremy Deering finished with 57 yards leading the team. Derring had a beautiful 32 yard completion to help set up a QB sneak rushing TD from Dodd.

It took until the 2nd half for the BC receivers to make any noise, but eventually they would. John Kreuger would lead all receivers with 104 yards and 7 catches. Their slot duo of Bobby Swigert and Colin Larmond Jr. would each score TD's. Larmond Jr's would come in the final OT on the first play, he beautifully kept both feet in for good measure.

              Defense
Both defenses played good ball today considering it was a long, long game. Rutgers has to be happy they only allowed 44 rushing yards total, but the same can be said for BC's fearsome front 7 as they only allowed 307 yards of total offense the whole game. The Rutgers defense did all they could to help their team win the game forcing 6 turnovers, a season high, and the most in Rick Ross' two seasons, it just wasn't enough, as they got minimal offensive support.

Boston College was led by senior Luke Kuechly. The linebacker had a game high 12 tackles and the teams only interception, that came in the end zone. Kuechly will no doubt hear his name called in the 2013 draft coming up in April. As a team the Eagles had 9 tackles for loss, as they were blowing up plays left and right, 3 of the 9 were sacks.

Things definitely don't get easier for the Scarlet Knights as they head to Fayetteville, Arkansas to take on the #25 ranked Razorbacks. When this game was on the schedule I don't think Coach Ross though his team would be 1-2, falling to 1-3 would be a disastrous start for a team who went 12-1 last year and finished #13 in the country. On the bright side, they have yet to play a conference game this season, last year their only loss was in Big East play to Louisville, with the Cards promoted to the ACC, Rutgers should be the favorite.

Rutgers and Arkansas Battle To The Very End, Scarlet Knights Stun Razorbacks

                  Week 6
                  September 29, 2012
                  Fayetteville, Arkansas

It was a rather slow game in the rain down in Fayetteville, Arkansas. As the Rutgers Scarlet Knights took on the #25 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks. But boy did that change starting in the 3rd quarter when the teams would begin to start trading blows. A missed FG by Arkansas K Zach Hocker would let RU put up 14 unanswered points getting themselves back in the game. Some more back and forth in the final quarter would lead to RU taking the lead and giving Arkansas a chance to drive and win with just over a minute left. A game clinching interception from Khaseem Greene would give the Knights a huge, much needed win.

                  Quarterbacks
Chas Dodd did everything he could today to will his team to victory, as the QB fought through a muscle strain to throw for 353 yards and 3 scores. All of his TD's came in the 2nd quarter and each one was to freshman TE Joel Andrews. None bigger than with 1:33 left on a TE Seam in which the 6'7" Andrews used his big body to bring down the pass for the go ahead score.

Dodd again as able to spread the ball out as he found 8 different receivers and was able to convert on medium to deep ranged passes, something he was unable to do vs Boston College two weeks ago. Chas did throw 2 interceptions, but when you get the win and throw for 3, you tend to forget about them..for now.

Redshirt Senior Tyler Wilson had a huge game for the Razorbacks. Wilson would throw for 2 scores and 2 interceptions, but his 383 yards through the air kept his club in the game until the last minute. He was without star receiver Cobi Hamlton, but he made due for sure, finding a new favorite weapon in redshirt freshman Kane Whitehurst who had 10 catches. Wilson would have a chance to lead his team downfield but would throw an interception to Khaseem Greene.

                  Running Backs
Jawan Jamison had an extra week to recover from a concussion and boy did he make a difference. Jamison paced the RU offense all afternoon in the soggy condition for 143 yards on 21 carries. Jamison would score his longest TD of the season when he broke free from 33 yards out in the 3rd quarter bringing RU to within 2 at 21-19.

The Razorbacks knew they would have a tough time with an experienced Rutgers front seven. They didn't think it would be 44 yards total tough. Heisman hopeful Knile Davis was held to just 35 yards on 16 carries, while Ronnie Wingo Jr. carried the ball just once. Davis would find the end zone from a yard out in the whirlwind that was a 4th quarter. QB Tyler Wilson also got the Razorbacks on the board in the 1st quarter with an 8 yard scrambling TD.

                  Wide Receivers
Joel Andrews was no doubt the deadliest receiving threat RU had to offer up today. The freshman TE hauled in 5 passes for 83 yards, 3 of which were for TD's. Andrews 6'7" frame is a force to be reckoned with and he is almost impossible to cover especially 1 on 1, or in the red-zone. Andrews has scores of 14, 21, and 23 yards, all of which were brought down in the end zone.

Rutgers had much more success throwing the ball this week than they did vs Boston College. Jawan Jamison and Mohamed Sanu each had 5 catches to tie Andrews for the team lead. In total 8 Rutgers players had a reception in the win.

Arkansas was without senior WR Cobi Hamilton (91) who broke his ribs way back in Week 1 vs Eastern Michigan. Tyler Wilson managed just fine without his playmaker this go around as redshirt freshman Kane Whitehurst had a breaking out party. Whitehurst would catch 10 passes for 108 yards and a score by far the best performance go his career.

During the 2nd quarter Arkansas starting TE Chris Gragg who had already scored a TD earlier in the game, was banged up and put into concussion protocol not able to return. A definite blow to the red zone passing game. Which showed with one of Wilsons interceptions at the 2 yard line.

                  Defense
The Rutgers defense again had multiple interceptions for now the second straight game. Khaseem Greene sealed the win with an interception in the 4th quarters final seconds, while Duron Harmon came up with an interception in the 1st quarter deep inside the red-zone at the 2 yard line. Along with the two picks, RU was able to control Knile Davis to just 3 yards.

The Arkansas defense really got to Rutgers in the first half, sacking Chas Dodd 4 times for almost -40 in yards lost. It was the second half adjustments made by Rutgers that sank the Razorback defense. Allowing Jawan Jamison to bruise and tire them running down field. Despite the loss the Razorbacks were able to secure 2 interceptions, though with Chas Dodd at QB that's not saying too much.

                  Special Teams
Freshman K Robby Harrell was 2-2 today with both of his kicks coming from 37 yards away. The freshman needs to hit the weight room as anything further than 44 yards is going to be trouble. Unless there's a healthy gust.

Arkansas K Zach Hocker was 1/2 on the day. His FG from 50 yards out put the Razorbacks up 24-19 to start the 4th quarter.

                  Up Next
Rutgers (2-2, 0-0) will head to North Carolina and open up Big East play against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-2,0-0). For Wake Forest it will be their first ever Big East game after they went 0-8 and were demoted from the ACC.

The Demon Deacons come into this game with a 2-2 record just as the Scarlet Knights do. This will be just the 3rd time ever these two schools play one another. The first two times coming 1997 and 1999 in which Wake Forest won both times. Rutgers will for sure be looking to flip the script this go around a cool 13 years later. For Wake Forest it is their first game in the Big East after going 0-8 in ACC play last season, earning them a demotion.

                      October 6, 2012
                      Winston-Salem, NC

Rutgers was excited to get back out there and play after a nice win vs a ranked Arkansas team last Saturday, and it showed as they scored 21 points in the 1st quarter on a rainy BB&T Field in Winston-Salem, NC. This was en route to a 35-21 victory spoiling Wake Forest's Big East debut, sending the Deamon Deconstructions to 2-3, 0-1.

                      Quarterbacks
Chas Dodd had his most efficient game of the season and in many aspects it seemed like his best overall game of the season as well. The junior single caller was 19/36 for 272 yards, 3 scores and a pick. On the opening drive on a third and long Dodd would find Tim Wright on beautiful 24 yard completion to keep the drive alive, his best pass of the day.

Dodd would dial up two long distance touchdowns today one to Mohamed Sanu on a 33 yard streak route, in which Sanu burned his defender, finally! The second was a 51 yard catch and run from Tim Wright helping Rutgers go up 21-7.

For the Demon Deacons, Tanner Price looked outstanding on his opening drive, completing all 3 of his passes for 63 yards and a short score to Chris Givens. He would throw for another score before the half ended, but he would go on to throw 3 interceptions in the game, on just 9/22 passing in an overall poor performance in the rain.

                      Running Backs
Coming off a 140 yard performance vs an SEC defense many were expecting All-American Jawan Jamison to improve upon his Heisman chances with a big performance again today. Though he didn't have the yardage (87) he did find the end zone twice, including getting RU on the board with an early 7-0 lead. Jamison ran the ball 24 times in the soggy conditions for 3.7 yards on average. His backup DeAntwan Williams didn't fare much better with 7 carries and just 20 yards.

Wake Forest would struggle in the run game as well as Josh Harris would gain just 66 yards on 16 carriers, for a tad bit better of an average than Jamison had. His score from 7 yards out to open the 3rd quarter brought Wake Forest to within 2 scores, though the score would hold at 35-21. Three different receivers would see a carry each, as Wake Forest would run a strange option play a few times, to no success.

                      Wide Receivers
As a collective the Scarlet Knights group had their best game of the season. Tim Wright had 2 scores on 81 yards receiving including a 51 yard catch and run TD. Senior Mohamed Sanu who has been relatively quiet this season (though he leads the team in catches with 22) had a nice 33 yard score, getting behind his defender and leaving him the dust.

Jeremy Deering led the team with 5 receptions as he counties to be Mr. Reliable, he is the only RU receiver without a drop this season. Deering has 16 catches good for 2nd on the team.

Only two receivers for Wake Forest had catches and both of them had touchdowns as well. Senior Chris Givens was the star as he torched the RU secondary for 134 yards and a score as he continues to be a Top Receiver in the Big East. The only other player with a catch was Michael Campanaro who brought in 4 catches for 65 yards and a TD.

                      Defense/Special Teams
Anytime you can allow only two different receivers to bring in passes throughout a game is an impressive feat. Throw in 3 interceptions and you would think your looking at a dang good pass secondary. Maybe? Its early in the season and its hard to tell, at their best Rutgers pass D can be tops in the Big East, at their worst though, we have seen them give up 100 yards to multiple receivers in a game before.

Logan Ryan led the way with 2 interception, one in which he returned 35 yards to midfield.

Wake Forest did manage to sack Dodd 3 times throughout the game and force an interception in the end zone. Though apparently a blind man can intercept Chas Dodd in the end zone. Letting RU convert on 50% of their 3rd down conversions shot them in the foot. After allowing 35 points in the first half, the Demon Deacons would shut out RU the rest of the way.

Pitt comes in to this game after losing to a 1-win Cincinnati team last week to open up their Big East schedule. With Redshirt senior QB Tino Sunseri out with a dislocated ankle it's a different Panther team, Sunseri is the clear leader of the team when he is in the line-up. Last season Rutgers scored 25 points in the 4th quarter to come from behind and beat Pitt by 3, 38-35. Without their starting QB things may go a little easier for the Scarlet Knights this go around.

Well it only took 8 weeks but Rutgers finally earned their first home win of the 2012 season. The Scarlet Knights took full advantage of Pittsburghs injury situation at QB and dominated the Panthers 45-7. The win gives Rutgers there 3rd straight win of the season and moves them to 2-0 in Big East play. For Pitt the struggles continue as they drop their 3rd straight game without starting QB Tino Sunseri.

                          Quarterbacks
Speaking of quarterbacks, Rutgers Chas Dodd has seemed to find his groove the past couple games. Dodd was as excellent as can be given the rainy conditions. Besides the obligatory end zone interception, Dodd was sharp completing 20/36 passes for 281 yards, 4 scores and the interception.

His longest and most impressive strike of the day was a 78 yard catch and run from freshman red shirt Miles Shuler, Dodd hit Shuler about 35 yards downfield whole Shuler did the rest for his first career TD. Earlier in the game Dodd was looking for Shuler in the endzone but the freshman didn't turn around, making an easy pick for the Pitt defender.

In backup of Tino Sunseri, the redshirt sophomore Mark Myers continued to struggle vs the Scarlet Knights. Completing less than 50% of his passes and being forced to throw the ball, it was a formula doomed from the beginning. Myers line was 17/48, 244 yards, and an interception. He never took a shot at the end zone the whole game.

                          Running Backs
Jawan Jamison continues to be the workhorse the Scarlet Knights need him to be. Jamison ran for a season high 162 yards on 26 carries and a score. His score gave RU a 14-0 lead heading into the half. Jamison would also score in the 2nd half on a passing play, continuing to be a versatile weapon.

Backup DeAntwan Williams saw double digit carries for the second time this season and the first time since rushing for 116 yards vs Boston College. His 10 carries would net him 47 yards and a score of his own.

Being behind the whole game Pitt was forced to throw much of the game but Desmond Brown did get 11 carries in the game and the teams lone score in the final quarter. The TD came at a time when the Rutgers 2nd team offense and defense were in the game.

                          Wide Receivers
It was another solid game overall for the Rutgers receiving core. Mohamed Sanu after getting his first score last week, scored twice more this week, as the TD's seem to come in bunches for the senior pro prospect. Leading the team in yardage was the red shirt freshman Miles Shuler with 103 yards, his first career 100+ yard game and getting his first career TD.

Six Rutgers receivers would have multiple catches in the game a season high.

For Pitt, junior Devin Street led the way with 5 catches and 97 yards. The speedster was good for a 47 yard completion which was Myers best throw of the game. Despite not having much success Myers would find 8 different receivers in the loss.

                          Defense/Special Teams
The Rutgers run defense was again top notch as it always seems to be, granted they didn't get much action as Pitt threw the ball almost 49 times. Both teams would record an interception Jarred Holley for Pitt and Khaseem Greene for the Scarlet Knights. All-American DT Scott Vallone added a sack to his total in the win.

Freshman kicker Robby Harrell nailed his only FG attempt from just 34 yards out, he was also 6/6 on XP. Pitt kicker Kevin Harper had a light day at the office with just one XP to his credit.

It hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows for the 2012 Louisville Cardinals. The switch over to the ACC has been much tougher than anticipated. The Cards come in with a 2-6 record overall and are just 2-4 in the ACC, after going unbeaten in the Big East last season. Louisville handed Rutgers their only loss last season, eventually costing them the Big East title. Rutgers will no doubt be out for revenge in this now non-conference matchup.

Every player that felt the 28-21 loss to Louisville last year will tell you today felt good. Rutgers feels it should be them playing in the ACC not the Cardinals, who ended up winning the Big East last year, and earning the leagues promotion to the ACC. The Scarlet Knights were out to prove that Friday night and they did just that, beating the struggling Cardinals 35-17, notching the teams 4th straight win.

                              Quarterbacks
Rutgers QB Chas Dodd seems to be improving as the season goes on as he was able to top last weeks performance and lead his team to another victory. Dodd connected on 18/27 passes for 338 yards, also throwing a season best 4 TD to 0 int. Keeping the interceptions down is a huge factor in Dodds game and how well the offense is moving.

Dodd would link with Mohamed Sanu for 3 scores in the game, the most for the duo in their two seasons working together. One of the scores was a 64 yard slant catch and run, where Dodd led Sanu perfectly. His 4th score came to his favorite red zone target freshman TE Joel Andrews.

For Louisville, senior QB Will Stein made one crucial mistake in the game, throwing across his body and being intercepted by Brandon Jones. The interception would lead to 7 points for RU on the next drive, killing the Cardinals comeback hopes. Minus the pick, Stein threw for 2 TD's and 291 yards in the loss. His longest completion being a 54 yard strike to WR Andrell Smith who made a nice catch on the sideline.

                              Running Backs
Jawan Jamison again broke 100 yards running for 131 in the win. It is something almost expected these days from the junior back, as he is almost for sure bolting for the NFL draft barring a miracle. His backup senior DeAntwan Williams scored on one of his 10 carries, marking the only rushing TD of the day for the Scarlet Knights.

When Louisville Cardinals running back Jeremy Wright did carry the ball he found modest success rushing for 4.0 yards a carry. The back would finish with 53 yards on 13 carries. Overall the Cards were held to just 64 yards on the ground against Rutgers tough run defense.

                              Wide Receivers
Mohamed Sanu continues his white hot play as he scored a career high 3 times in todays game. Sanu also had a season high 182 yards through the air, thanks in part to his 64 yard catch and run TD across the middle of the field. Sanu also had a season high 7 catches, 5 more than the next leading receiver for RU, Jeremy Deering (2 rec, 21 yards).

The young guns Joel Andrews and Brandon Coleman also had 2 catches, while Andrews scored yet another TD, putting him just begins Jawan Jamison (8) for tops on the team. Besides the QB.

Both of Louisville's top wideouts had big games for the Cards. Andrell Smith had 4 catches with 139 yards and a score as he hauled in a pretty 54 yard bomb along the sideline early in the 2nd half. Opposite Smith, was Damian Copeland who had a score on 5 catches and 47 yards. Copeland had the decisive score in last years 28-21 win over the Scarlet Knights.

                              Defense/Special Teams
The only turnover forced today was by RU and CB Brandon Jones who intercepted just a terrible decision/pass from Louisville QB Will Stein.

Both teams have freshman kickers who don't have big legs, so FG's were at a premium. Cards frosh Wesley Crum nailed a 38 yarder the only FG attempt for both sides.

Back to conference play for Rutgers as they had to Ohio and take on the 2-4 Cincinnati Bearcats. The Cats are coming off a bye week. Stay tuned for a preview. Louisville will head to Kansas State and take on the other newest member of the ACC, Kansas State.

Cincinnati comes into this game looking to move to 2-0 in Big East play after having a rather rough go of it in their non-conference schedule. Though it has been a tough schedule so far in their defense. Last season the Scarlet Knights rocked the Bearcats in Jersey 55-28. The Bearcats will certainly remember that come game time, but whether they can avoid the same from happening this season is up for discussion.
