But a proud day for the Kodiaks.

The pick 6 for 88 yards, beautiful!
Right?! When Amos just walked into the endzone with that 1 yard run late in the 4th I was PUMPED! Even though we lost, it was the most fun I've had playing the game in a while.

My UT dynasty has reached the point where if I have fun, it's landing great recruiting classes and following my guys in the NFL. This one is a blast because for at least the next two years, we're going to be the underdog in terms of overall rating. So, I'm really looking forward to the highs and lows of this Dynasty.

The Art Green pick six was quite possibly the most satisfying play I think I've ever made. They kept beating me on a corner route, so I switched to Green right after the ball was snapped, and planned to cover Bolar who they kept throwing it to on the play. I then saw the out route was open and jumped the route myself. Picked it off and had a clear path to the endzone thanks to Neal not having the best speed! I never do stuff like that, so that's why it was so satisfying lol.

    Thanks for the comment!

And if I may, love your Greyhound Dynasty! Followed along with the initial Dynasty and have recently gotten completely caught up in Volume II as I prefer to silently lurk on here with the occasional like lol. It's incredible to me that you've had so much success with only recruiting the state of Pennsylvania!

        2019 | Week 3 | @ #25 West Virginia

        Kris Fordinal.jpg
Freshman SS Kris Fordinal jumps the passing lane, makes this leaping interception, and returns the ball 49 yards for the pick six!

        Game Summary

I don't think we were prepared for the atmosphere that is Milan Puskar Stadium. Lord have mercy was it loud.

Our offense got off to a horrendous start due to the crowd volume. Tony Amos threw a pick on our 1st drive, and WVU scored on a 13 yard TD run by Kennedy McCoy shortly after. About two and a half minutes later they tacked on a 21 yard FG to increase their lead to 10-0.

We finally returned the favor with a great drive led by Tony Amos. He capped the drive off with a 12 yard pass to Freshman wideout Steven McDaniel. That closed the gap to just 3 points as WVU held the 10-7 lead heading into the 2nd Quarter.

The 2nd Quarter was absolutely brutal. The Mountaineers outscored us 14-0 and we could only muster 27 yards in the entire quarter.

WVU scored both touchdowns from just 1 yard out. The first, QB Austin Kendall hit WR Winston Wright on a 1 yard pass. The second touchdown, that occurred just 6 seconds before halftime, saw Austin Kendall hold onto the ball on the Read Option and score untouched. The Mountaineers held the commanding 24-7 lead going into halftime.

But, we came out and absolutely dominated the 3rd Quarter.

We forced a punt on WVU's first possession and followed it up with a huge momentum swinging touchdown. Tony Amos threw a bullet pass to Steven McDaniel on the curl route. McDaniel turned up field, broke WVU CB Keith Washington's tackle attempt, and took off for the 59 yard TD.

West Virginia got into a little bit of a rhythm. Their drive came to an abrupt halt when they tried throwing a screen to WR Sam Jones. Freshman SS Kris Fordinal read the play, made a leaping interception, and returned the ball 49 yards for the pick six!

It was our second pick six in as many games and it cut the WVU lead to 24-21!

On WVU's ensuing possession, Kennedy McCoy fumbled the ball and it was scooped up by Freshman CB Corey Neal. We had all momentum and that carried over to our following possession where we scored our 3rd TD of the 3rd Quarter. A great drive with two converted 3rd down plays resulted in a 2 yard TD run by Tauren Peters who had an expanded role due to Norris Blalock being rather in-effective.

Regardless, we stormed back and had a monster 3rd Quarter. Heading into the 4th Quarter we held the 28-24 lead.

We forced a punt on WVU's next possession. So far, better than the Vanderbilt game. However, they forced our offense into a 3 and out. And on their following possession, took the lead on another Austin Kendall TD run... This time, it was a read option keeper from 2 yards out. WVU had taken the 31-28 lead with 2:26 left. We had all 3 timeouts and our offense had proved that it could drive down the field and make an occasional big play.

We started to pick apart their defense as we managed to get two consecutive 1st downs. All of that changed when Tony Amos tried throwing an out route on 2nd and 6. WVU Freshman CB Tae Mayo jumped the route, intercepted the pass, and returned it 54 yards for the game icing TD.

The score was 38-28 in favor of the Mountaineers. We got down to the red zone when Tony Amos' pass was intercepted once again, this time by WVU CB Keith Washington.

Once again, we came so close to a massive upset, but couldn't close out during the 4th Quarter. Of course, the ability to do that comes when we develop depth and have more collegiate experience. But, it was another fantastic effort by our guys, which gives me confidence in our chances of competing this year in the C-USA.

        Offense Breakdown

        The Good: Explosive Plays

For playing a road game against a Top 25 team that just came off a massive upset of #2 Oklahoma on the road a week ago, the way that we moved the ball down the field was impressive. Amos had some erratic throws that were way off the mark. But that's to be expected in a hostile environment like the one we played in. Despite that, we were able to hit some big plays throughout the game. Freshman WR Steven McDaniel busted the long 59 yard TD catch and run in the 2nd Quarter. Freshman WR Nick Brewer hauled in 6 catches for 101 yards, which is good for a 16.8 AVG on receptions. It was also his second straight game of over 100 yards receiving. We also hit 20 yard pass plays to Norris Blalock and Grant Wood.

When it came to running the ball, Tauren Peters was a huge, much needed spark for our offense. He carried the ball 12 times for 85 yards, which is an average of 7 yards per carry. HB Norris Blalock on the other hand could only muster 36 yards on 12 carries. Peters has 100% carved himself a role in the offense following this game.

Overall, the offense is looking pretty solid as we move closer to C-USA play.

        The Bad: Costly Turnovers

We lost the turnover game today, which is didn't help our cause in anyway. One of the throws from Tony was just way off the mark, too early in the game which is what got their crowd even more riled up. The last two turnovers were unfortunate. Amos was trying to make plays and there was just nothing there. It would have been much better to just throw the ball away rather than force a pass to a tightly covered receiver, especially when playing a team as talented as WVU. Decision making needs to improve throughout the year.

        The Ugly: WR Drops

Yes, we were able to move the ball down the field. But damn, the drops from our receivers absolutely killed all momentum at times. Our receivers dropped the ball 8 TIMES IN THIS GAME!!!! We'd have a decent drive going, and we'd have a drop on first down and second down (it happened twice in the game) and we'd be in a hole on 3rd Down. What's Tony supposed to do here? He just had two good throws that you can't hold on to... How is he supposed to trust you to hold onto this next pass?

I'm aware it comes with the style of athletes we recruit to play receiver. But at some point, even in this stressful environment, you HAVE to hold onto the ball when it hits you in the hands. It's just inexcusable to kill promising drives due to drops that, quite frankly, should not happen.

        Defensive Breakdown

        The Good: Our Pass Rush

Our pass rush got significantly better over the course of just a week. I was really impressed. We were able to get some solid pressure on Austin Kendall and forced him to throw the ball away 6 times by my count. We came up with 3 sacks as Freshman CB Jamaal Jenkins, Freshman DE Matt Chase, and Senior LB Reuben Bellamy all recorded 1 sack a piece. If we can play like this against a ranked Power 5 school, who's to say we can't do this in C-USA play?

        The Bad: Secondary Breakdowns

This is going to be on here a lot this year, I can already tell.... As a unit, the secondary played much better. Kendall is a really solid QB and he only completed 56% of his passes. However, he completed 22 passes for 352 yards. That's good for 16 yards per completion... Which is WAY too high in my book. We also gave up multiple, chunk yardage pass plays to WR Sam James and T.J. Simmons. Both put up over 100 yards thanks to a 17.8 average yards per catch from James and 26 average yards per catch to Simmons. Both of those numbers are outrageously high, and we must work on giving up big plays like this throughout the season.

        The Ugly: Tackling

Quite frankly, tackling was pathetic today. We missed out on 3 sacks due to not finishing our tackles. There was one run in particular where HB Kennedy McKoy broke 3 tackles as he bullied his way for a 12 yard gain. Plays like that should never happen and it happened more than I'd like to admit. I know part of it was fatigue that set in during the 4th Quarter. But we had a problem with this throughout the first half too... It was just more prominent in the 2nd half.

As a team, we still have a lot to work on. But the promise we've shown is too much to be ignored. We have a week off before we get our first home game in program history vs. Eastern Michigan.

            2019 | Week 5 Recruiting Update

It's been quiet on the recruiting front for the first 4 weeks of the season, so I thought I should give an update as to where things are headed.

So let me talk about how we got to this point with our recruiting board...

At the start of the season we identified 15 players that we wanted to target. Obviously, not all of them were going to be apart of our class. But we were hoping some would get slow played long enough for us to get some commits and then focus our attention from the players that committed onto the slow played recruits.

Surprisingly, out of the first 15 players we identified, 3 remain on our recruiting board as we've decided to not pursue JUCO recruits any further. Two recruits are visiting this week, while the other one is being slow played by other schools... AKA not being recruited by any other school, at the moment. We'll have a recruiting update next week with the updated board showing the removal of all JUCO recruits.

Since Week 1 our board has changed quite a bit (which is why this is the first recruiting update). But once we realized guys were being slow played, we adjusted our focus to scouting some other recruits that are flying under the radar or are also being slow played.

And as of right now, there is only one player on our recruiting board that are being recruited by another school... That player is 3* FS J.J. Jordan. And if I'm being honest, I don't like our chances with Jordan. TCU is starting to get involved and they're making him a big time priority. It'll be incredibly hard to hold off a BIG-12 school known for their defense. So a new FS target might be popping up on our board shortly.

I feel like this final detail should be known. Realistically speaking, we expect to land about 17-20 players in our 2020 Signing Class. However, our dream scenario goal is a 25 player class and that is 100% what we're shooting for. Because landing 25 of the players listed below would go a LONG way towards building the depth we need to that would help us close out tight games.

Down below will be our recruiting board sorted by how the player is ranked nationally. Just a couple side notes on the board... We recently added some new players to the board after we had to remove some that we realized we had no shot with. So the newly added players aren't fully scouted. Also, we're recruiting a 6'4" 3* Tackle by the name of Larry Cowan. Cowan is being recruited as a Center.

I see you got alot of Jucco's on the radar. I have found that 2* Juco's tend to come in rated higher then most 3* guy's and it appears so based off what some of their scouting overalls are looking like.

I feel like the JUCO route could make you good very fast especially if you land most of them. I don't know who much you want to struggle in this one, but if you don't want to get to good to fast, I would suggest staying away from the Juco guy's.

That's what it is all about, having fun again in the games to keep putting the hours in to keep up the dynasties. Especially when losing as it's harder to get motivated to do it, but as a poorer team in close games, they really are great to play in.

Pick 6's have been rare for me, I think I have maybe 3 or 4 in 10 seasons, I dread to think how many have gone the other way. User read for the pick 6, even better and as you say, sooooo much more satisfying.

Thank You for the kind words on the Greyhound Dynasty. It's defiantly been much better in Volume II with the heavier restrictions on recruitment and this year I'm starting to see the trouble we may be in for the next few years, which ultimately will make it better longer term If I continue to not get to Title games and a few 8-4 type years.

Another majorly positive game with West Virginia, not going to knock many top teams off at the minute but to hang with them and be within 2 score's shows the potential for the team later in the season when playing weaker teams. Just that 4th quarter when the team must get tired and the lack of depth starts to show as the bigger teams just find a way to keep scoring.

If they play the way they have done the last few weeks, Eastern Michigan should be that W the programme needs!! I'm encouraged by them rushing numbers too, really solid against a top #25 team!

I like that idea! I just went with best available within my recruiting restriction/criteria... But I like the thought of building the program with only high school guys and seeing how they progress instead of getting guys who I only get for 2 years. So I'll go ahead and add "no JUCO players" to the recruiting restrictions. Thank you for the suggestion!

Oh it was a great showing!! But man, when I blow late leads like this, it just brings back awful memories of Tennessee doing the same in real life lol. I know that's a weird place to jump to, but I've just seen them blow SO many leads, regardless of the sport that's immediately what I think of.

I will say though, for being a team with an overall this low, we're doing a fantastic job holding in there with these Power 5 schools on the road. Hopefully, like you said, our showings against Vandy and WVU will translate into a win vs. Eastern Michigan.

                    Thanks for the comments!

                      2019 | Week 5 | vs. Eastern Michigan

                      Nick Brewer.jpg
Freshman WR Nick Brewer is turning heads of college football fanatics across the country. The Freshman posted his 3rd consecutive 100 yard receiving effort

                      Game Summary

Our team was extremely confident heading into this matchup... And they had every reason to be.

A startup team full of Freshmen contributors from 1 recruiting class, mixed in with a team of mostly transfers had taken two Power-5 schools down to the wire on the road. It was an incredible feat. But, we still didn't have what we wanted... A 1 in the W column.

As our team came to the entrance of the tunnel, we looked around and were excited by the number of fans in attendance. 27,572 fans came out to see our first game... Which is the highest attended C-USA home game of the season! Folks in the southeast love their football!

Anyway, we got off to a fantastic start. Our first drive resulted in a 5 yard TD run by HB Tauren Peters. EMU would respond with a TD of their own as HB Breck Turner plunged into the endzone from 1 yard out. But, we would score another touchdown of our own about 30 seconds later. Freshman phenom Nick Brewer got behind the Eagles defense. Tony Amos threw a beautiful deep ball which hit Brewer in stride and he was gone for the 59 yard TD. This was just the beginning for Amos as his TD pass put us up 14-7 heading into the 2nd Quarter.

The beginning of the 2nd half was dominated by us. On EMU's next drive they went away from their effective triple option and tried throwing the ball. That quickly proved ineffective as QB Mike Glass III would throw two interceptions in the quarter. Both interceptions were from Freshmen, Jason Durbin and Jamaal Jenkins, and both would result in an eventual TD for us. After Durbin's INT, Amos led a great drive and capped it off with a 1 yard keeper for the TD. After Jenkins' INT, Amos would find an open Grant Wood over the middle of the field for a 22 yard TD.

The Eagles responded just before halftime to score a TD of their own, as Mike Glass kept the ball on the triple option and scored from 3 yards out. That TD closed the gap to a 28-14 ball game as we went into the locker rooms at halftime.

EMU opened up the 2nd half with a touchdown thanks to an incredible 15 yard run by QB Mike Glass III. First off, he took off for a 37 yard play 3 plays before the 15 yard TD run. On the TD run, Glass broke a tackle in the backfield and then broke two more tackles on his way to the end zone. It was an incredible run and it was clear... We had no answer for him as a running threat. Our lead was cut to 28-21 following the made extra point.

However, our offense wasn't going to give up so easily. Despite two drops from Steven McDaniel, on a 3rd and 10, Tony Amos found Kenyon Meeks ALL by himself at least 10 yards behind the Eagles' secondary. I'm not sure I've seen a receiver more wide open in my life. It was the perfect play call for their defensive coverage. Amos threw a beautiful deep ball, once again, and Meeks scored EASILY on a play that covered 49 yards. We now held a convincing 35-21 lead with 2:33 left in the 3rd Quarter.

EMU would eventually get on the board one more time when Tony Amos' pass was intercepted and returned 17 yards for a TD by Senior CB Kevin McGill. I'm not sure what the hell is going on with all these pick sixes so far this season. But that score cut our lead down to just 35-28.

Thankfully, we would march right down the field and score one final time to put the game out of reach! Tony Amos worked up the courage to throw the ball to Steven McDaniel one final time (he had dropped his previous 3 targets) and McDaniel hauled it in for the 1 yard TD catch. That would cap off an incredible game from Tony Amos as he accounted for 5 TD's! And the score was now 42-28 and that's exactly how the game would end.

It was an exciting game from start to finish and we were beyond ecstatic to claim our first victory as an FBS football program!

Congrats on the win. Solid offensive production both passing and running the ball. EMU sadly is just 1 step above a FCS school , but hey it's a win and it hopefully will lead to a few more.

There we go, knew that Win was coming as EMU just are not even close to the standards of the other teams played, and come close to beating. Played some tight coverage on them to limit them to under 100 passing yards too which is impressive.

Nick Brewer, just keep feeding him the ball and see how good he can be! Be nice to set the benchmark high for anyone else coming in to try for these 100+ yard games.

Got a good feeling for several wins in the C-USA this year too!

Thanks! I know EMU is pretty bad... But at this point, after blowing late leads, I'll take a win against anybody just for the sake of getting in the win column .

                              Thanks for another comment!

The sad thing is about this game, is their QB's arm was down right horrific. He could not throw the ball to save his life. However, I just could not stop him when he ran the ball. It was frustrating, but impressive at the same time lol.

And Nick Brewer is playing incredibly well! In my system, I like putting the #2 WR in the slot. And he's absolutely dominating because of it. He's 6'4" and has 90 speed. So he's a big mismatch for quite a few nickel corners. And I'm sure he'll have some more impressive games once C-USA starts since nickel corners.

I'm cautiously optimistic about picking up a few wins in C-USA play. I'm hoping to at least beat Marshall because with the 2019 rosters, they're basically on the same level as Eastern Michigan lol.

                              Thanks for another comment!

                                2019 | Week 6 Recruiting Update

A couple changes have been made to the recruiting board since the last update.
                                • We feel great about securing a commitment soon from both official visitors from this past weekend: 3* Tackle Larry Cowan (being recruited as a Center) and 3* CB Brian McDonald.
                                • All JUCO players have been removed from the board as we'd like to build the program with guys we'll have for 4 or 5 years instead of constantly replacing guys after two years.
                                • We've added some players to our recruiting board: 2* G Taylor Gooden, 3* DT Tim Jones, 2* CB Adam Capps, 3* FS James Browne, and 3* K Matt Baker.
                                • Finally, we're hoping to have a very big recruiting weekend for our game vs. Texas State. We have 3 visits scheduled so far, and we're hoping to schedule at the bare minimum 4 more visits. Optimistically speaking, we might be able to schedule up to 6 more visits for that weekend.
