Did Peters have a big run I missed in the recap or was it pretty spread out over the 5 carries. Either way with a 10.2 avg he looks like he is begging for me carries.

They were pretty spread out for the most part. Only problem is, he got banged up with like a sprained ankle on the 5th carry. It said he could return later, but I didn't want to risk injuring him further, so I played Blalock. Peters will be back in the starting lineup next week though!

        2019 | Week 9 Recruiting Update

From the looks of it, these are about to be a weekly thing for the rest of the season. And they're gonna be fun.

Last week we landed our first commit of our 2020 Signing Class... This week, we landed 4 commitments, all of which are 3* recruits. And they happen to be 4 of the most college ready players that we were targeting.

        3* FS, J.J. Jordan | 73 Ovr

        89 Speed | 93 Acceleration | 85 Agility | 77 Tackle | 74 Pursuit | 68 Man Coverage | 71 Zone Coverage | 80 Press

Recruiting Info: This is a BIG TIME get! J.J. Jordan is a 6'4", 196 lbs. Free Safety from Teaneck, NJ. Jordan was our top defensive target and we managed to get him. It wasn't easy though. In the Week 5 recruiting update, I talked about how TCU was heavily pursuing him and we added another FS to our recruiting board for that reason. He had a visit lined up Week 10 to TCU and decided to cancel that visit and proceeded to commit to us.

Skills Breakdown: Jordan is a beast. He's going to be an incredible Free Safety for us. He's got elite speed and acceleration for his size. Both of those attributes will let him be a true Center Fielder. This dude is going to be a ball hawk and on top of that, he's nearly as strong as some of our current LB's on the team. He's just a freak athlete. When it comes to actual football skills, he's fantastic tackler and will come up and with his strength, speed, and size, he will absolutely lay you out. His coverage skills aren't the best right now. However, his Press coverage is actually really good, which is a bit surprising.

Future Outlook: We haven't decided on Jordan's Freshman year yet. He could come in and contribute in specific packages. But, if he's redshirted, he has a chance to be a four year starter since Jamal Flanagan will be a Senior next year. We think Freshman Shannon Lee can be a really good player, which gives us the option to redshirt him next year. This is a guy that we legitimately think can be an All-Conference/All-American caliber player.

        3* T, Larry Cowan | 69 Ovr

        80 Strength | 63 Agility | 79 Pass Block | 73 Run Block | 82 Impact Block

Recruiting Info: Larry Cowan is a 6'4", 283 lbs. Tackle recruit from Fort Worth, TX. Cowan was one of the first recruits we targeted in this recruiting cycle. We're aware that Cowan doesn't meet our Tackle height criteria. But considering his height and skillset, we think he'd be a pretty solid Center.

Skills Breakdown: We really like Cowan's current strength because that will only get better once he gets here and adds some weight through our strength and conditioning program. When it comes to his blocking abilities, he's definitely a better at pass blocking than run blocking. His impact blocking is what he's best at though. I want to comment more on Cowan because I really like his potential, but there's just not too much to comment on when it comes to linemen.

Future Outlook: Cowan will have a chance to win the vacant starting Center spot since current starter Eli Morse is a senior. He'll compete against Michael Hayford for that spot. If he doesn't win that position battle, he will 100% be redshirted. Regardless, we view Cowan as a high caliber starter for us down the road once he gets here, adds some muscle, and refines his techniques/fundamentals.

        3* DE, Justin Dixon | 70 Ovr

        79 Speed | 80 Acceleration | 76 Strength | 80 Finesse Moves | 74 Block Shed | 74 Tackle | 75 Hit Power

Recruiting Info: Justin Dixon is another massive get for us. He's a 6'4", 235 lbs. Defensive End recruit from Palm Coast, FL. Dixon had schools like Alabama, Florida, and Florida State in his Top 5, but thankfully they never pursued him. Because of that, we got ourselves a fantastic pass rusher.

Skill Breakdown: In our scheme, we strongly believe that speed kills, but you ultimately win games on the line of scrimmage. That's proved to be true so far. In games we've lost, we haven't gotten consistent pass rush. With Justin Dixon in the fold, getting a pass rush will not be a problem. Dixon's speed matched with his acceleration will be a problem for another tackle he goes up against in this league. And then he's not great at any one specific thing, but he's well rounded. He's good at just about everything you look for in a Defensive End recruit. His strength is solid, he's got fantastic finesse moves with good power moves. Then he's a good tackler with good hit power. I love everything about this kid's game.

Future Outlook: It depends on who else we land in this Signing Class. If we land a couple more DE's, Dixon is a redshirt candidate for the sole purpose of we want him to start here as long as possible. If he's redshirted, he'll start his Redshirt Junior and Senior seasons. And he's another All-Conference caliber player. Don't be surprised if he racks up 10+ sacks in a season when he gets consistent playing time.

        3* WR, Van Peoples | 71 Ovr

        93 Speed | 89 Acceleration | 83 Agility | 83 Elusiveness | 71 Catching | 69 Route Running

Recruiting Info: This is another big one! Van Peoples is a 5'11", 177 lbs. Wide Receiver recruit from Winnfield, LA. We thought we had Peoples in the bag for a while... But towards the end Mississippi State came after him hard. We ramped our recruiting efforts up for him and he ultimately shut his recruitment down this week and committed to us.

Skill Breakdown: Peoples is the type of play you just get the ball in their hands anyway you can and then you just sit back and watch them make plays. The kid is incredibly fast and has elite elusiveness. As a receiver, he's raw. But we won't really need him to play a big role in the offense until his Sophomore season at the very least. So he's got plenty of time to work on his catching rating. Like, his catching isn't bad. But his catch in traffic and spectacular catch need some work. His route running is nice, but it could still use some work. However, with his speed and elusiveness, this kid is a legit option as a kick returner next year.

Future Outlook: We have no plans of redshirting Peoples next year. At the very least, he's a kick/punt returner option. There's always the option to put him in the game and dump screens off to him and watch in amazement as he makes plays. This kid is another All-Conference caliber player. It'll be fun to see him progress over the next 4 years.

So those are our 4 newest commitments. I hope I get to make even longer posts here in the coming weeks!

            2019 | Week 10 | Texas State Recap

            Nick Brewer.jpg
Freshman WR Nick Brewer returned to his early season form as he put up another 100 yard receiving effort

            Game Summary

Bare with me on this one...

We received the ball to start the game and quickly marched down the field as we made a 30 yard FG. Jumping out to a 3-0 lead early in the game is always a solid way to start the game.

The Bobcats responded with a TD as Junior HB Caleb Twyford plunged 3 yards through the heart of our defense for the score. Texas State was up 7-3 heading into the 2nd Quarter.

With our next possession, it took a little bit, but we finally managed to get down the field into the red zone. However, our drive stalled and we were forced to kick a 22 yard FG. We were down 7-6 with 3:34 left in the 2nd Quarter... And everything went downhill from here.

Texas State return man, Mason Hays, returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a TD. The Bobcats' special teams blocking was phenomenal. Hays managed to hit a hole and just took off for the TD, untouched. However, Kicker Jacob Rowland missed the extra point attempt, so the score was only 13-6.

On our next drive, we managed to drive down the field, but our drive stalled. We attempted a 41 yard FG and Tyler Livingston missed it wide left.

Over the rest of the quarter, each team punted once and we eventually went to half time trailing 13-6.

The only score of the 3rd Quarter came on a 7 yard TD run by backup HB Calvin Hill. Hill took the handoff, bounced it to the outside, broke a would-be tackle from ROLB Reuben Bellamy and was then tackled forward into the end zone. Texas State now held the commanding 20-6 lead.

Our next drive stalled out as well and it resulted in a missed 46 yard FG attempt. Texas State's ensuing possession resulted in a quick 3 and out.

We then FINALLY scored our first TD of the game on our next drive. Tony Amos finally had a drive where he didn't overthrow receivers by 5 yards and led us down the field. The drive was capped off on a 1 yard TD plunge by Norris Blalock. We had cut the lead to 20-13. So despite the EXTREMELY poor play on offense, we still had a chance to win the game.

However, we couldn't take advantage off of the weirdest interception I think I've seen. Texas State QB Tyler Vitt overthrew his intended receiver by like, 5 yards, and Jason Durbin just happened to be running 5 yards in front of the receiver he was supposed to be covering......? I've never seen anything like that before.

Anyway, we got the ball back with good field position, but their defense forced a quick 3 and out. So we had to punt the ball away. Texas State milked the clock for a little bit before HB Caleb Twyford broke a 41 yard TD run with just 47 seconds left in the game. That score put Texas State up 27-13 and effectively iced the game.

But of course, we would score one more TD despite the fact that there were only 47 seconds left in the game. With 3 seconds left we figured, well we're an option offense, might as well try one. So, we ran a triple option... Tony Amos faked the hand-off to Tauren Peters, ran to his left, and pitched the ball to Freshman HB Jason Strong. Strong then makes two defenders miss and scores on a 25 yard run as time expired.

So the TD made the final score look more respectable for us as Texas State gives us our first ever home loss.

The offense today was so incredibly frustrating. I don't know why, but Tony Amos either overthrew his receivers or he had to throw the ball away because the O-Line was just not blocking well today. Even in run blocking situations, we couldn't get anything going on the ground.

The defense however played much better than last week. They gave up 137 rushing yards, but they held Texas State to just 174 passing yards. Which is a huge step in the right direction after last week.

This was such a frustrating, yet weird game... But we'll need to regroup next week as we really need to snap out of this losing skid. We've now lost 3 out of our last 4 and we have Western Kentucky coming to town next week while we're hosting 4 important recruits on official visits.

Re: Smoky Mountain State University V2 | Teambuilder Dynasty (NCAA 14)

              2019 | Week 10 Recruiting Update

Despite the aggravating loss to Texas State, we still came out of this weekend with 3 recruits. One of them, in particular, has the chance to be a program changing recruit.

              3* DT, Nick White | 71 Ovr

              63 Speed | 80 Acceleration | 77 Strength | 73 Power Moves | 72 Block Shed | 77 Tackle | 73 Pursuit

Recruiting Info: Nick White is a 6'4", 291 lbs. Defensive Tackle recruit from White Oak, Maryland. White is a guy who values future playing time. And we made sure we plugged that. We lucked out as the other schools in his Top 5 did not pursue him. Because we desperately needed a DT in this class... And we're lucky to get one of his caliber.

Skill Breakdown: White isn't the fastest DT, but he makes up for it with solid strength and just good all-around fundamentals. You can't really pick apart anything in his game where you can just tell it's lacking behind everything else. He is just good at everything. His Power Moves, Finesse Moves, and Block Shed grade out to almost the exact same rating. His tackling ability is the strongest part of his game. His Pursuit and Play Recognition are also solid.

Future Outlook: He's aware of our DT situation and depth chart. So, he is a redshirt candidate in his Freshman year so we can get him as a starter for an additional year. We're extremely excited to see him grow because by his Senior year, it wouldn't surprise us to see him as an All-Conference player.

              3* T, Brandon Rowe | 68 Ovr

              80 Strength | 60 Agility | 83 Pass Block | 69 Run Block | 72 Impact Block

Recruiting Info: Brandon Rowe is a 6'5", 288 lbs. Tackle recruit from Clarksville, TN. Rowe is a guy we identified early and started getting recruited hard these past few weeks by Army. Their late push wasn't enough as he went ahead and committed to us over the weekend.

Skill Breakdown: We always viewed Rowe as a developmental recruit. Because their are specific intangibles that are already really good... But then he is lacking in some areas. For example, his Strength and Pass Blocking are elite while his Run Block really needs some work. He's got decent Impact Block, but he definitely needs to improve here too.

Future Outlook: Rowe is 1000000% being redshirted next season. We view Rowe as a possible replacement for LT Caleb Newman when he graduates following the 2021 season. By that point, Rowe would be a Redshirt Sophomore, so these things I nitpicked and said he needed to improve on will almost certainly have improved by quite a bit.

              3* QB, Cedrick Lewis | 71 Ovr

              84 Speed | 82 Acceleration | 85 Throw Power | 78 Throw Accuracy | 75 Break Tackle | 75 Elusiveness

Recruiting Info: WE GOT OUR GUY!!! Cedrick Lewis was our top overall target from the moment we scouted him. He is the PERFECT fit for our system. He's a 6'3", 235 lbs. Quarterback from Oak Ridge, TN. We lucked out with him as well since no one in his Top 5 heavily recruited him.

Skill Breakdown: I LOVE this kid's game and his potential. He's not as fast as Tony Amos, but you're not going to find QB's as fast as Tony Amos too often. We also don't need a QB as fast as Tony, but we value a Scrambling QB that can scramble out of the pocket to extend plays. That's really when defenses breakdown and give up long plays. Lewis can do just that. His Speed and Acceleration are extremely good for a high school QB. His Throw Power has the potential to be deadly. His accuracy needs some work. But, we graded his Throw Power to be nearly the same rating as Tony Amos' this year. And Lewis will have at least two years to develop behind Amos.

Future Outlook: Lewis is another for SURE redshirt. We want this kid on campus as long as possible. Once redshirted, he'll take over the reigns at QB when he's a Redshirt Sophomore. And by then, we should have laid a really solid team by that point as we'll be 4 recruiting classes in then. This kid has All-Conference/All-American potential... And dare I say, NFL potential.

It took a while, but recruiting is picking up steam in a big way. And I couldn't be more excited about how the class is taking shape.

Accidentally made a boneheaded mistake and played my game before getting the weekly preview info... So here's what I salvaged after making some calculations for our stats after Week 10 and WKU's stats after Week 10.

                  2019 | Week 11 | Western Kentucky Recap

                  Andrew Baker.jpg
Freshman ROLB Andrew Baker forces a fumble on this sack in the 2nd Quarter

                  Game Summary

I could tell from the morning of the game that this was going to be a weird game. A cold front pushed through the mountains and it was going to be snowing here for our game vs. WKU. This is East Tennessee... Even in the mountains it doesn't snow here in early November, like ever.

WKU received the ball to begin the game and after a 54 yard pass from Steven Duncan to Jahcour Pearson to set the Hilltoppers up in the red zone. And the very next play, they got in the end zone as Steven Duncan hit HB Gaej Walker out of the backfield. Walker made Reuben Bellamy miss and then powered his way into the end zone on the play that covered 18 yards. WKU took the 7-0 lead just 22 seconds into the game.

Talk about being punched in the mouth.

But, we would score 21 unanswered points in the 2nd Quarter. It all started with a 12 yard TD pass from Tony Amos to Freshman WR Nick Brewer. WKU didn't have a single defender covering Brewer out of the slot thanks to the hurry up offense. Brewer was wide open and scored with ease.

WKU's next drive ended quickly thanks to a forced fumble on the sack by ROLB Andrew Baker. We proceeded to score 3 plays later thanks to a 1 yard TD run by Tauren Peters.

Then, following an interception by backup SS Chester Franklin, we were set up with good field position late in the half. And with 6 seconds left we thought we had 1 last chance to heave the ball to the end zone. And thankfully, it worked. Steven McDaniel beat the press coverage as WKU brought both safeties on a blitz. Amos lofted a perfect touch pass down the left sideline to McDaniel and he caught it in stride for the 25 yard score. McDaniel crossed the goal line with just 1 second left and we took a 21-7 lead going into halftime.

Both teams traded punts to begin the 2nd half. But, after WKU's punt, on the first play of our ensuing drive, Tauren Peters hit a large hole in the O-Line and took off for the 78 yard TD run. He went untouched and once he gets passed the 2nd level of the defense, it's gonna be hard to run him down. We now held a demanding 28-7 lead.

But, the Hilltoppers would fight back in a big way.

Steven Duncan led a methodical drive on WKU's next drive. The drive was ultimately capped off on a 1 yard TD run by HB Gaej Walker to close the gap to 28-14 going into the 4th Quarter.

A quick 3 and out gave them pretty good field position... And they capitalized on it with a TD. Steven Duncan found is #1 WR Lucky Jackson on the post route and threw a perfect pass right on the money for the 15 yard scoring strike. WKU now only trailed 28-21.

Once again, our next drive resulted in a punt and WKU would take advantage... This time, on the first play following the punt, Steven Duncan threw a bomb to WR Quin Jernighan. Jernighan easily brushed CB Jason Durbin off of him at the line of scrimmage as Durbin was playing press coverage. Duncan caught the ball from Duncan in stride and took off on a play that covered 75 yards and tied the game up at 28-28 with just 1:56 left in the game.

We had blown a 21 point lead, at home, in about 5 minutes... And it got even worse if you can imagine that.

Our next drive stalled out and we had to punt again. QB Steven Duncan then gashed our defense. On a 3rd and 5, we blitzed and they called an HB Screen. HB Gaej Walker caught the ball, and in shades of the Southern Miss game, had the entire left side of the field WIDE OPEN. Walker then scampered 36 yards for the game winning TD with just 26 seconds left.

Western Kentucky showed us why they only have 2 losses on the season as they rally from being down 21 in the 2nd half to take this one by a score of 35-28.

Our offense was fantastic leading up to the drive following Peters' 78 yard TD run. For whatever reason, we just couldn't get into a rhythm again.

Our defense played well in the first half. But we just don't have the depth to have really high quality play when teams pass the ball 46 times, only run the ball 8 times all game, and then run a hurry up offense on top of that. On WKU's last drive, our defense was absolutely GASSED. That is ultimately why no one could catch Walker on the screen.

We've now dropped 3 straight games and have another tough test against quite possibly the most talented team in the conference, the Lane Kiffin led FAU Owls.

                    2019 | Week 11 Recruiting Update

Again, despite our crushing loss this past Saturday, we managed to keep some momentum on the recruiting trail as we picked up a couple big in-state commits.

With these two commits, it brings our total number of commitments up to 10 on the season... All of whom have committed in the past 4 weeks.

Our class has moved up to #47 in the Recruiting Rankings and we have the 2nd best class in the C-USA. However, that will most likely change here in the coming weeks as we're expecting to land a lot of commitments!

                    3* WR, James Woods | 68 Ovr

                    6'6", 236 lbs. | Johnson City, TN

                    94 Speed | 70 Acceleration | 83 Jumping | 61 Catching | 85 Spectacular Catch | 76 Catch In Traffic | 83 Route Running

Recruiting Info: James Woods is a 6'6", 236 lbs. Wide Receiver from Johnson City, TN. This was a kid that we've really wanted ever since we first scouted him. He has other-worldly athleticism and we're lucky that he managed to fly under the radar long enough for us to get him to commit.

Future Outlook: Woods is an absolute freak of nature. As soon as we scouted him we knew he'd be a game changing recruit. He's got uncover-able size. This kid is built like a Tight End, with the game breaking speed. I'm not sure I've ever seen a recruit like this before. He's definitely going to redshirt as a Freshman so we can work on his Catching. But once he's a Redshirt Sophomore or so, he'll have a big role in our offense thanks to his speed, route running, and more than likely improved catching by that point.

                    2* G, Vincent Collins | 68 Ovr

                    6'3", 282 lbs. | Brentwood, TN

                    57 Speed | 85 Acceleration | 75 Strength | 60 Agility | 77 Pass Block | 76 Run Block | 73 Impact Block

Recruiting Info: Vincent Collins is a 6'3", 282 lbs. Guard recruit from Brentwood, TN. Collins was a great find by our staff as we think he's definitely rated too low. He's got at just about everything when it comes to his techniques, but there's always room to improve and get stronger once he gets to campus.

Future Outlook: Collins is 100% redshirting as a Freshman. We'd like him to get up to 290 lbs. at the least and get a little bit stronger. We see him as a future starter down the road. But with the O-Linemen we've signed in the past few classes, it could be a while before he starts for us.

                        Game Summary

Boy, we got off to a horrible start... Don't get me wrong, it was a good game. But we got absolutely punched in the mouth to start this game.

FAU scored the game's first 3 touchdowns. However, they missed the extra point attempt on 2 of the 3.

The first TD came on their first drive backup HB... James Charles, on a 1 yard run. We got to about the 50 yard line on our first drive before it stalled out and we were forced to punt. Then FAU marched right down the field and scored on a 1 yard TD pass from star QB Chris Robison to Senior WR John Mitchell. FAU held the 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Our next drive stalled and a perfect punt pinned FAU at the 5 yard line. However, we tried blitzing and LOLB Andrew Baker went through the wrong gap in the O-Line. HB Larry McCammon III hit the hole and was gone for the 95 yard TD run. Kicker Vladimir Rivas missed another extra point, so FAU only led 19-0.

Then, we would score 2 quick touchdowns. The first came on a 12 yard TD pass to Freshman WR Nick Brewer. Tony Amos made this play happen. He avoided a sack, rolled out to his right, and on the run, fired a beautiful pass to Brewer who made sure he had both feet in bounds while making the catch along the sideline. It was a beautiful throw and catch and we now trailed 19-7.

FAU fumbled on the ensuing kickoff, so we were set up with the ball on the 23 yard line. And less than a minute after our first TD of the game, we scored again, thanks to a 13 yard run by Tauren Peters. That closed the gap to 19-14 in favor of FAU.

But, right as we get the momentum, it gets sucked away. Returner Meiko Dotson returned the kickoff 102 yards for the TD as FAU stretched their lead back to 2 possessions.

However, thanks to a quick and impressive drive by Tony Amos, we scored with 7 seconds left in the half. Amos found Kenyon Meeks over the middle of the field on the slant route and hit him in the hands with the ball. Meeks caught it in stride and scored easily.

We trailed 26-21 heading into halftime as there were a combined 34 points scored in the 2nd Quarter alone.

It took a while, but FAU got on the scoreboard first in the 2nd half as Chris Robison hit his #1 WR, Willie Wright, on the 7 yard TD. Kicker Vladimir Rivas missed his THIRD extra point of the game. So FAU's lead only increased to 32-21 with 2:11 left in the 3rd Quarter.

We responded on our next drive with a TD of our own. Amos led another great drive and Tauren Peters capped the drive off with his 2nd rushing TD. This time, it was just a 2 yard run.

This is where I made a critical mistake... I elected to kick the extra point, when I should have made us go for two. I had so much confidence in our offense and really our defense too, that I thought we'd be able to score once, if not twice over the course of the 4th Quarter.

                        And we did not.

The extra point made the score 32-28... And in a 4th Quarter dominated by punts, the only score was a 38 yard FG by our kicker, Tyler Livingston.

That 38 yarder made the score 32-31 FAU and that's exactly how the game would end. My boneheaded decision to not go for two on Peters' 3rd Quarter TD run is what basically cost us the game as Livingston's field goal should have tied the score up in the 4th Quarter.

Instead, we drop our 4th straight game to fall to 3-7 on the season. These last few weeks have been heartbreaking and frustrating at the same time. Especially now because we're not eligible for a bowl game now that we've lost our 7th game.

But, I was very encouraged by our play... Especially on defense. On defense, we only allowed 332 yards of offense and only allowed 130 yards passing. That's a HUGE improvement considering how our pass defense has been the past few weeks. Our offense moved the ball well, we just couldn't finish drives when we needed to.

I'm pleased with our performance, but frustrated that I cost us a chance to win the game in OT.

We HAVE to bounce back next week and get a win vs. Louisiana Tech. It's Senior week and these seniors deserve to go out with a home win in their final game at GSM Stadium.

                          2019 | Week 12 Recruiting Update

The one thing that's been constantly positive over this losing streak is this 2020 Signing Class and how it's growing each week.

And it got even bigger this week as we picked up 3 more commitments which brings our 2020 Signing Class to 13 players. Thanks to these 3 commits, we now have the #39 Recruiting Class in the country and we're just 6 spots behind FAU for the #1 class in the conference.

                          3* CB, Mike Brigham | 67 Ovr

                          6'0" 186 lbs. | Lakeside, VA

                          91 Speed | 87 Acceleration | 81 Jumping | 80 Agility | 72 Pursuit | 71 Play Recognition | 79 Man Coverage | 76 Zone Coverage | 65 Press

Recruiting Info: Mike Brigham is a 6'0", 186 lbs. Cornerback recruit from Lakeside, VA. This was a huge commit for us. Not only do we love Brigham's athleticism and current ability, but corner is a major need for us. We have 3 Senior CB's graduating and we'd ultimately like to land a total of 3 CB's in this class. Brigham is our 2nd in the class to go along with Brian McDonald. Brigham is also a big pickup because Colorado has been making a late push recently. But, despite their interest picking up, he decided to shut his recruitment down and join our 2020 Class.

Future Outlook: Depending on how our roster shakes out, Brigham may be forced to play next season, even though we don't think he'll be ready. Now if he gets to redshirt, I'd be extremely excited about getting him some playing time as a Redshirt Freshman. He'd have time to work on his agility and coverage skills, along with working on his tackling that could also use some improvement. However, we fully expect him to be a solid starter for us by his 3rd or 4th year in the program.

                          3* FS, Eric Brown | 72 Ovr

                          6'3", 210 lbs. | Snyder, TX

                          88 Speed | 88 Acceleration | 87 Agility | 79 Tackle | 70 Hit Power | 71 Pursuit | 64 Man Coverage | 68 Zone Coverage | 76 Press

Recruiting Info: Eric Brown is another big pickup for us. He's a 6'3", 210 lbs. Strong Safety recruit from Snyder, TX. Adding Brown to this class is big because it solidifies us with another great safety. Him and J.J. Jordan will be wreaking havoc on offenses for years. Brown is another guy who flew under the radar and didn't have any other school heavily involved in his recruitment... Which we are totally fine with because we got a good one!

Future Outlook: Brown is going to redshirt as a Freshman due to current Freshman, Kris Fordinal's strong play. We expect Brown to take over the starting SS role as a Redshirt Junior. However, we are going to get him on the field much sooner than that when we run a 4-2-5 defense to try to defend the pass. So just because he won't necessarily start full time for a few years, does not mean he won't get meaningful playing time... Because he certainly will. This is another kid that we think as All-Conference potential.

3* OLB, Caleb Finley | 72 Ovr | Moving to DE

                          6'5", 229 lbs. | Toccoa, GA

                          76 Speed | 78 Acceleration | 79 Strength | 81 Tackle | 70 Hit Power | 73 Pursuit | 74 Play Recognition | 69 Power Moves | 70 Finesse Moves | 78 Block Shed

Recruiting Info: Our staff lost it when this kid committed. Caleb Finley is currently an extremely talented, 6'5", 229 lbs. Outside Linebacker recruit from Toccoa, GA. While he's an OLB recruit, we love his potential at DE, which is where we will put him when he gets on campus. He's got great speed and acceleration for the position along with solid block shed. His pass rushing moves need work, but those will improve over time.

Future Outlook: Finley is going to redshirt his Freshman year so he can get used to the DE position at the collegiate level. He'll be the primary backup to Matt Chase and Kenny Cannon his Redshirt Freshman year as we'll try to get him on the field as much as possible because we love this kids talent and potential. By his Redshirt Senior season, we think he can be an All-Conference player.

Along with the excitement of getting these 3 commits, we also managed to get 9 kids to come on an Official Visit for the Louisiana Tech game. Which is absolutely HUGE considering the fact that this is our last home game of the season.

So with it being Senior Day and a huge recruiting weekend, we're going all out. We'll wear our all black alternate uniforms and hopefully get a huge crowd in for the game. It should be an electric atmosphere all things considered.

The weather once again made it a bit difficult on us. Another cold front came through this weekend which meant we had our second game in the snow in 3 weeks.

Side note though, made for some beautiful scenery in the mountains!

Now, let's get to the action. Tony Amos was responsible for the only score, from either team, in the 1st Quarter. Amos dropped back to pass, saw that no one was open, and saw a running lane. He took off and scrambled for the 14 yard TD run. The only other major highlight of the 1st Quarter came when Junior FS, Jamal Flanagan, picked off his 1st pass of the game. Yep, another one came later.

However, after an eventual punt on our drive following the interception, LA Tech scored their first points of the game. It came on a 5 yard read option keeper by QB Winston Elliott.

On our next drive, Tony Amos' pass was intercepted and the Bulldogs took advantage of the turnover, turning it into 7 points. 4 plays after the interception, Tech found the end zone on a 9 yard slant as Winston Elliott threw a dime to arguably the most talented receiver in the conference, Junior Antwan Hardy. Tech took the 14-7 lead with 2:52 left in the 1st Half.

However, we responded very quickly with a TD of our own. A long 45 yard pass to Nick Brewer set us up near the red zone. And 2 plays later, Amos found Brewer over the middle of the field for the easy 9 yard TD pitch and catch. We had tied the game up at 14-14 with 2:24 left in the half.

We forced them to punt on their next possession and we scored one final time before halftime. With only 14 seconds left, we tried running an HB Sweep to the left to set Tyler Livingston up with a FG opportunity from the middle of the field... But HB Tauren Peters had other ideas. Peters saw a hole, cut through it, and then cut back towards the left sideline and scored on an 11 yard run.

Thanks to the impressive run, we took a 21-14 lead going into halftime.

We absolutely dominated the 3rd Quarter as we outscored Tech 14-0. On our first drive, Tony Amos led a great drive which was capped off on a 7 yard TD catch by Freshman TE Joe Bush. Bush had a remarkable game as he finished with his first career 100 yard effort. His TD put us up 28-14.

And thanks to Jamal Flanagan's 2nd interception, this one came in the end zone, we managed to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard... And then marched right down the field to increase our lead even further.

Amos led another great drive which was capped off by Junior WR Kenyon Meeks hauling in his only catch of the game... And that catch came on an 8 yard TD thanks to Meeks perfectly run curl route. We had a commanding 35-14 lead going into the 4th Quarter.

And this game was not slipping away.

LA Tech scored once more on a 30 yard pass from Winston Elliott to Junior WR Isaiah Graham.

We matched that TD exactly 45 seconds later on a 4 yard TD pass from Tony Amos to Freshman WR Steven McDaniel.

The rest of the drives resulted in punts by each team.

We managed to win in convincing fashion over Louisiana Tech on Senior Day and in front of 9 Official Visitors, 42-21.

There's absolutely nothing to nitpick about this game. Offenses moved the ball at will as we put up 526 yards. Then, our defense only allowed 289 total offensive yards by Louisiana Tech.

This was a picture perfect way to close out our last home game. Now, let's really send our Seniors off with a win as we play our season finale next week @ Old Dominion.

Our QB, Tony Amos. What more needs to be said this point? He was responsible for 377 yards of offense and 5 Touchdowns. Just an incredible performance

                                2019 | Week 13 Recruiting Update

Our momentum on the field carried over into recruiting as we picked up 3 more commitments this week. This pushed our 2020 Class to 16 commitments and to the #32 Recruiting Class in the Country. With these 3 commitments, we have passed FAU for the #1 Class in the Conference!

I was hoping to have a lengthy update this week as we breakdown all the commitments... But it looks like the lengthy update will have to wait until next week.

                                3* OLB, John Heffner | 72 Ovr

                                6'5", 218 lbs. | Lancaster, PA

                                82 Speed | 94 Acceleration | 71 Strength | 71 Tackle | 89 Hit Power | 83 Pursuit | 77 Play Recognition | 70 Block Shed | 72 Man Coverage | 66 Zone Coverage

Recruiting Info: Not gonna lie, this didn't really hit me until now. But damn, this kid is good. John Heffner is a 6'5", 218 lbs. Outside Linebacker recruit from Lancaster, PA. He's got tremendous size at 6'5", 218 lbs. He's fast and has unreal acceleration. His Hit Power is absolutely incredible. I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing him lay some people out over the course of his career here.

Future Outlook: The original plan was to redshirt him. But with how good this kid is already, I think we have to find a role for him next year. With the current state of our program, it would be hard to not give this kid some playing time. We'll give him a shot to win an OLB starting job. But, if he doesn't win a starting OLB job, then a redshirt might be in the picture for the sole purpose of being able to have him for start the following year once Atari McLaurin graduates. But this kid is a stud. We definitely think he can end up being an All-Conference/All-American type player for us.

                                3* WR, Isaac Greenwood | 69 Ovr

                                6'1", 208 lbs. | Madeira, OH

                                92 Speed | 90 Acceleration | 79 Agility | 76 Jumping | 70 Catching | 60 Spectacular Catch | 64 Catch In Traffic | 71 Route Running

Recruiting Info: Isaac Greenwood is a 6'1", 208 lbs. Wide Receiver recruit from Madeira, OH. He's our 3rd and final WR commit of this class... And he's the 'slowest' one of the 3 if that tells you anything about the type of speed we've recruited in this class. Thankfully we got him on campus when we did because North Carolina started making a strong push for him these past couple weeks. We were able to hold them off and secure a commitment from him during his visit this past weekend.

Future Outlook: We love Greenwood's potential. But he absolutely has to be redshirted as a Freshman so he can work on his catching. It's kinda rough right now, but with in a few years, we think he can be a big contributor to our team. He might contribute as soon as his Redshirt Freshman year since Kenyon Meeks and Grant Wood will be graduating.

                                2* G, Taylor Gooden | 68 Ovr

                                6'5", 311 lbs. | Mableton, GA

                                63 Speed | 86 Acceleration | 77 Strength | 62 Agility | 74 Pass Block | 79 Run Block | 72 Impact Block

Recruiting Info: Taylor Gooden is a 6'5", 311 lbs. Guard recruit from Mableton, GA. Gooden has tremendous size and that will only improve once he gets in our strength and conditioning program. Over the last few weeks Ball State and Minnesota have been recruiting him heavily. He actually had a visit lined up for Ball State next week, but cancelled it and committed on his visit this past weekend.

Future Outlook: We've always viewed Gooden as a developmental recruit. He's going to be good, we just need to redshirt him this season to get him acclimated to the college game. Then, we could see him starting for us anywhere from 2-4 years from now. We think he'll be an extremely solid interior lineman for us.

We have scheduled an Official Visit for Kicker Matt Baker for Week 15. Even though it's a bye week, we felt it was important to get him on campus so he could see everything for himself, talk to teachers in his major, and just experience the official visit in general.
