Run of the Bulls ‣ USF Football News
Andrew Lake -- 247 Sports Staff Writer

    ‣ Freshman RB Fuller could miss rest of season with chest injury

USF running back David Fuller tore his pectoral in practice last week, causing him to miss the Alabama game.

Fuller had 79 yards rushing on the season and was a five-star running back from the previous recruiting cycle. Gerald Mitchell has been dealing with an elbow injury as well, causing him to miss most of the Alabama game. The team relied on another five-star true freshman in Derrick Green who rushed for over 100 yards against the Tide.

Mitchell is expected to be back into the lineup this week against Oklahoma State.

    ‣ Sophomore LB Reed hints at dissatisfaction with lack of playing time

Despite beating Alabama and playing more than he had in previous week, sophomore linebacker John Reed took to Twitter to relay a rather cryptic tweet.

"They gonna feel me when I'm gone!"

Reed started last season as a true freshman, recording 43 tackles and 9 tackles for loss. He lost his starting spot this year to true freshman Dallas Gross, who already has 40 tackles on the season.

    ‣ Stone makes Heisman claim with celebration, will Vegas take notice?

Junior receiver William Stone splashed onto the national consciousness this past weekend with his three-touchdown performance, stamping it with a Heisman pose.

The latest Heisman odds still don't have Stone listed but his case is getting stronger by the week. Stone is second in the Big 12 in receptions and fourth in yards while also being second in the Big 12 in yards per carry. There's a lot of football left to be played but Stone is on track for a 1,048 yards receiving campaign along with 750 yards rushing in the regular season alone.

With a lot of the tougher matchups out of the way, opportunities will be plenty for Stone to rack up some yardage and touchdowns.

South Florida Finds a Way to Win Against Oklahoma State
It's becoming a tradition as old as time. The South Florida Bulls defense making a stand late in the game. This time, they did it twice.

Oklahoma State failed to convert a fourth-and-one and a fourth-and-three in the last three minutes of the game as the Bulls passing attack led them to a 26-20 win.

William Stone broke the school record for most receptions in a game with seventeen, tying the record at halftime with 12. He finished the game with 142 yards, not to be outdone by roommate Andrew Vincent and his 114 yards.

The game continued a James Pittman's recent stretch of games where the once limited quarterback has turned into a pocket passer. Outside of an early interception, Pittman was almost flawless, throwing for 377 yards and two touchdowns. Pittman had never thrown it for over 300 yards in his career until the last two weeks, doing it twice against ranked opponents.

Bulls keep 5-star streak alive, land WR Barbour as class takes shape
Eddie Fernandez -- 247 Sports USF Insider

For the 7th straight recruiting class, the USF Bulls have landed a consensus five-star recruit. The latest is wide receiver Jason Barbour out of Orange County who is ranked as the second best player in the country by 247 sports.

Barbour is a six-foot-two, 212 pound receiver with legitimate 4.36 speed that already looks the part of a professional receiver and has since he was a high school sophomore. An Orlando native who moved to Fairview Shores as a junior, Barbour has been dominating the low level of competition that he has faced, amassing over 3,560 yards receiving in his high school career. Bulls fans should not be worried about the level of competition given Barbour's impressive performances in some of the more high profile 7v7 tournaments and the camp circuit.

USF also got commitments from running back Jason Finley, a four-star out of Miami. Finley was a bubbling three-star for a while before getting a bump at the end of his junior season. Finley is a shiftier back than the ones that the Bulls currently have but he still has decent size to him and some pop when finishing runs.

The Bulls also landed offensive linemen Robbie Wade and Marcus Clark, both three-star prospects that will be projects as opposed to plug and play freshman.

In less positive news, center M.J. Williams released his top two and USF was not included which was not a surprise. Williams, a Texas native, went with Tulsa and Kansas as his final two options.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Pull Off the Upset over #11 USF
It might have taken over a decade but the power of Lubbock, Texas at night has been restored.

Texas Tech was able to hold off USF's late rally to hang on to their 24-21 win on Saturday night over the eleventh ranked Bulls.

USF was held scoreless in the first half but seemed to be on their way back after scoring a touchdown and getting a goal-line interception to end the third quarter and opening the fourth quarter with a touchdown to make it 17-14.

The Red Raiders answered with a touchdown of their own as John Robinson, who would not be described as athletic by his own mother, rushed for a touchdown. The Bulls seemed content on letting Robinson run the football and he did so effectively.

The Bulls had a chance to cut into the lead on the next possession but James Pittman threw an interception in the endzone. The Bulls did get the ball back and did manage to score but after failing to recover the onside kick, Texas Tech was able to pick up a first down and run out the clock.

McFarland Leads Comeback for USF Following Pittman Injury vs. Baylor
Once the number one quarterback in the nation, Mike McFarland's tenure at USF has been one of ups and downs, mostly the latter.

McFarland stepped in for the injured James Pittman and helped the Bulls scored 21 points in the final eight minutes of the game to beat Baylor and escape Wasco with a 45-38 victory.

Pittman left the game in the first quarter with a concussion. McFarland led two scoring drives of his own but it wasn't enough as a muffed punt would allow the Bears to score twice in the final two minutes of the first half to take the 27-17 lead.

McFarland and the Bulls would answer back on their first possession of the second half, converting a 4th and 6 to Erik Bass for the 26-yard touchdown. Following a Baylor field goal, the Bulls would score three straight touchdowns to take the 45-30 lead with 2:06 left in the game.

Baylor made it interesting in the final minute, scoring and recovering the onside kick but turned the ball over on downs with 45 seconds left in the game.
