In my real job as a sports writer, I have put together a ton of records for sports in my coverage area, so it's a natural extension for me to do the same thing in my dynasty reports. I'm just about done with a database that has every game I ever played - score, leading passer, leading rusher, leading receiver - plus annual won-loss record, All-Americans, trophy winners. I believe I am closing in on my 1,000th career win going back to NCAA 2004 (closing in on it in the 2023 season of this dynasty).

One of the games on that list from NCAA '14 was when Northern Illinois put up 59 points on me with quarterback Jordan Lynch rushing for 306 yards on me running the option. I never felt more useless in my life attempting to play defense.

      2020 SEASON, GAME 6

Kadin Remsberg scores the winning touchdown with 23 seconds left.

      Remsberg redemption
After being invisible most of the game,
star back scores winning TD at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — It was undoubtedly the worst game of Kadin Remsberg’s Air Force football career, but it produced his greatest moment.

When you think of Remsberg, you think of long catches behind the defense in the passing game, but it was a simple 1-yard run that made him the hero of the Falcons’ 19-18 victory over Navy on Oct. 3, 2020.

Remsberg was completely shut down before getting the ball in the end zone for Air Force’s only touchdown in a defensive battle between two military academies.

He had only 37 yards on 13 carries and, shockingly, only 12 yards on six catches. That’s right, the speedy deep threat averaged a paltry 2.0 yards per catch. His longest catch was only six yards. With 546 yards on 37 catches this season, Remsberg averages 14.7 yards per catch.

“He did drop two balls in key situations, which is part of the trade-off when you entrust your biggest deep threat is a running back,” Air Force coach B-Dawg said. “He just didn’t seem to get open much and we spread the wealth a bit, which could bode well for our chances after Kadin is gone.”

Trent Brown caught eight passes for 119 yards and nine different players caught passes from Donald Hammond.

The Falcons had only four David Chapeau field goals on the board and fell behind 18-12 on a 47-yard pass from Kevin Doyle to Ryan Mitchell with 7:45 left in the game.

Remsberg had a chance to be the hero a couple minutes earlier, but he was tackled at the 1-yard line after making a 4-yard catch on fourth down with 2:26 left in the game.

Air Force desperately needed a stop on defense to get another crack at the elusive end zone. Things didn’t look good for the Falcons when Navy got a first down with 1:39 left, forcing Air Force to use the first of its three timeouts.

Senior defensive end Jordan Jackson came up with the defensive play of the game, sacking Doyle on third down to force a punt.

Air Force got the ball at the 50 with 43 seconds left. After a deep ball intended for Remsberg was broken up by Micah Farrar, Hammond completed a 29-yard pass to Hunter Williams and a 21-yard pass to David Cormier to get the ball to the 1. Air Force called a hurry-up and had Remsberg run the ball in easily against a spread defense. Chapeau, appropriately, kicked the go-ahead extra point.

B-Dawg was concerned he left too much time for Navy, which got the ball at its own 25 with 19 seconds left after a high kickoff designed to run off a few seconds with a return. After three plays gained only nine yards, Eian Castonguay ended the game by intercepting a fourth-and-one pass with one second to go.

Navy, known for its ground attack, surprised B-Dawg a little bit, passing the ball 22 times for 169 yards and running 22 times for 88 yards.

David Cormier catches the ball at the 1-yard line to set up the winning TD.

Love the callbacks, and also the notes you must be taking to be able to do recruiting updates and things like that when I know you're a few seasons ahead are very impressive! Big win over Navy, had to be a nice palate cleanser after the CSU debacle. Seems like Remsberg has been a bit part player this year compared to others, interesting to see how he fares the rest of the season.

I am 5-0 so far. The service academies tend to just run the ball. I have a defense in the 4-2-5 that seems to do a nice job of containing the option. The teams that kill me are the ones like Colorado State and Boy-Z State that throw it a lot. Robo-QB’s destroy me! The combined passing numbers for those teams are insane! When I scheduled nonconference games this year, I tried to pick teams that not only are cupcakes but tend to run it a lot.

It keeps the trophy case full! Except for Colorado State, which has taken ownership of the Ram-Falcon Trophy.

I hope this is actually true, but it’s almost as if the CPU has scouted us and hasn’t let Remsberg get open as much. I’ve had to diversify my portfolio, which will be vital if we are going to have any success after this season.

I would like to put more detail into stuff that doesn’t have to do with the games, but it’s all I can do to keep up on the reports. I actually made good progress on reports this past week, so I hope to keep that momentum going. I wrote more games than I played last week, which is what I need to be doing.

                2020 SEASON, GAME 7

Air Force linebacker Grant Donaldson blows up Utah State’s Morian Walker on fourth down.

                UNDERRATED!
77 OVR linebacker plays big again
in Air Force’s victory over Utah State

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Christopher Musselman isn’t the first name you’d bring up when talking about the 2020 Air Force football team.

On a team with the likes of Kadin Remsberg, Donald Hammond and Jordan Jackson, Musselman gets lost in the shuffle.

But while his 77 OVR rating as a fifth-year senior might not blow you away, his play at middle linebacker on the virtual gridiron should.

The Colorado State debacle aside, Air Force has made incremental steps toward playing honest-to-goodness defense this season.

Facing a 93 OVR fifth-year senior Jordan Love, a real-life first-round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers, the Falcons played lock-down defense in a 20-14 victory over Utah State on Oct. 17, 2020.

Musselman is a big reason why Air Force has allowed less than 20 points in four of its seven games and only 32 points in victories over Navy and Utah State since giving up 72 to Colorado State.

Musselman had eight tackles, three for losses, a sack and a forced fumble against the Aggies in his third huge performance this season. He had five tackles for losses against Old Dominion and 11 tackles, a sack and an interception return for a touchdown against Fresno State.

“You always have these guys who play above their OVR’s,” Air Force coach B-Dawg said. “Christopher has been one of those players for us. I barely knew he was on our roster until this year. If he keeps this up, he’ll be in the running for some national awards.”

Musselman led a defense that allowed only two touchdowns, one of them coming with 1:17 left in the game. Utah State ranked ninth in the country with 276.8 passing yards per game and Air Force was 125th (next-to-last) in pass defense at 289.7 yards allowed, but Love managed only 149 yards, two touchdowns and one interception while maintaining a high completion percentage by going 17-for-21.

“We will let them dink and dunk all day,” B-Dawg said. “Just don’t give up the deep ball. Make them drive the entire field.”

Air Force’s only two touchdowns in the game came in the final 5:12 of the second quarter after a 1-yard pass from Love to Carson Terrell gave the Aggies a 7-3 lead.

Remsberg had a 1-yard touchdown run with 5:12 left in the second quarter to give Air Force a 10-7 lead and Trey Taylor’s 1-yard run made it 17-7 with 18 seconds to go in the first half.

Air Force had two possessions inside Utah State’s 45-yard line in the third quarter, but failed to score. B-Dawg was getting nervous.

“I felt like we were living on borrowed time,” he said. “Having seen our defense for three years, I kept waiting for Jordan Love to starting lighting us up.”

That never happened. His move to a 1-5-5 Prowl defense seemed to confuse the Aggies.

                Punters’ delight

Freshman punter Fabrizio Pinton put two of his four punts inside the 20-yard line, hitting a long of 56 yards.

That was nice, but it didn’t compare to Utah State junior Ben Herron. Herron boomed an 82-yard punt when Air Force had nobody back to receive the ball for reasons B-Dawg can’t exactly remember as he writes this report months later. The ball kept skidding down the field and became a touchback, but still had a 62-yard net.

It helped Herron average 52.8 yards on six punts.

Kadin Remsberg ran for one of Air Force’s two touchdowns.

                Disappearing act

Remsberg has been front-and-center for Air Force’s success for most of this dynasty, but he’s been invisible the last two games, even though he scored the winning touchdown against Navy last week.

Remsberg had only three catches for 24 yards and ran 15 times for 48 yards and a touchdown against Utah State. Last week, he had six catches for 12 yards and ran 13 times for 37 yards and a score.

“We aren’t consciously going away from Kadin, but he seems to be covered better,” B-Dawg said. “We have played better defense the last two games, so we haven’t been in the type of desperation mode that causes us to chuck it deep to him.”

Jalen Mergerson intercepts a pass to end the first half.

                  2020 RECRUITING UPDATE

75 OVR corner commits to Air Force

Air Force may have its future shut-down corner.

Mark Monroe, a 75 OVR cornerback, is one of the first two commits in Air Force’s Class of 2021.

Monroe is the 34th-ranked cornerback in the nation. The three-star prospect from Ashland, Ohio chose Air Force over Utah.

He is the highest-ranked position player to commit to Air Force in B-Dawg’s three years in Colorado Springs. Qurarterback Zach Larrier was 70 OVR when he was recruited in the Class of 2019. Kicker David Chapeau was 79 OVR and punter Fabrizio Pinton 75 OVR when they were recruited.

Also committing to the Falcons is 70 OVR fullback Brad Tremblay, a two-star prospect out of Security-Widefield, Colo. The ninth-ranked fullback in the country chose the Falcons over Colorado State.

Offensive guard Derek Ferguson, who is 67 OVR, chose Brigham Young over Air Force.

                    2020 SEASON, GAME 8

Air Force receiver Hunter Williams caught six passes for 79 yards and one touchdown.

                    Gaze into future?
Falcons show they can win post-Remsberg
with balanced attack in blowout of Lobos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Eventually, Air Force will have to win football games without Kadin Remsberg.

Actually, they’re kind of doing it now.

Remsberg was a ghost for the third straight game. And, for the third straight game, the Falcons had other players step up to produce a victory.

The speedy senior halfback produced only 75 yards on 15 touchdowns and didn’t score a touchdown in Air Force’s 37-3 rout of New Mexico on Oct. 24, 2020.

It’s only the ninth time in 33 games that Remsberg has failed to reach the end zone. By comparison, he’s had seven games with at least three touchdowns during his three years under coach B-Dawg.

The feared deep threat caught only three passes for 12 yards, while running 14 times for 63 yards. He hasn’t had a 100-yard game either rushing or receiving in the Falcons’ last four games.

“No, Kadin isn’t injured,” B-Dawg said. “Let’s squash that rumor right now. I actually look at this as a good thing. The greatest concern surrounding our team has been if we could win without chucking it deep to Kadin to get out of trouble. We are developing other players and finding other plays that are working for us. Most important, we are starting to get some good defensive performances. You’re never in desperation mode if you’re not chasing the game.”

Trey Taylor, who shares carries with Remsberg, reached the end zone twice late in the first half on short runs to break open a 7-3 lead. Quarterback Donald Hammond ran for one touchdown and threw a 15-yard pass to Hunter Williams for another.

The Falcons’ passing game showed the kind of balance they’ll need post-Remsberg. Williams caught six passes for 79 yards, Trent Brown caught five passes for 76 yards and seven other players had at least two catches.

By improving to 6-2, Air Force is bowl eligible after missing last season with a 5-7 record.

                    Worst QB ever?

Quarterbacks are routinely throwing for 300, 400 yards against Air Force, so you’d think an 84 OVR red-shirt senior should have a pretty good day against the Falcons.

Instead, Tevaka Tuioti had a passing line that had B-Dawg wondering if, given the Falcons’ porous pass defense, he might be the worst quarterback he’s ever faced. Tuioti was 11-for-18 for 84 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions.

“I don’t know how any quarterback, in a game in which they needed to throw a lot, gets only 84 passing yards against us,” B-Dawg said.

Air Force came into the game ranked 120th out of 126 teams in pass defense, allowing 269.6 yards per game.

Tuioti has 82 SPD, 79 THP and 83 THA.

“What’s this kid been doing for five years in college, partying? I wouldn’t take a high school recruit with those passing ratings.”

Air Force halfback Trey Taylor ran for two touchdowns.

                    Stuffing the run

Tuitoi was more effective running the ball, gaining 40 yards on eight carries. But he accounted for just about the entire rushing output for a team that entered the game ranked 11th in the country with 243.2 rushing yards per game.

Take away a 40-yard run by Tuitoi, who was sacked three times, and New Mexico had only seven yards on 19 carries.

The rushing total by Kentrail Moran was embarrassing for any player, let alone one who is an 84 OVR fifth-year senior. Moran had only two yards on 11 carries. His longest run was three yards.

Fullback Garrett Babcock, who was recruited by Air Force, had five yards on his only carry.

                      2020 SEASON, GAME 9

Auston Deason picks off a pass for Air Force.

                      FORCE FEEDING
                      Falcons’ passing game struggles,
Air Force still finds way to beat Army

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — B-Dawg was licking his chops.

He saw visions of insane passing numbers for his Air Force football team when the scouting report showed that Army was rated 71 on defense with a bunch of guys in the secondary who do not have the type of speed you’d expect from Division I college football players.

Instead of just taking what he was given, B-Dawg tried to force the issue with the pass, again and again. The result was that quarterback Donald Hammond had perhaps his worst performance in a winning effort — but at least it was a winning effort.

Hammond completed only 46.2% of his passes in a 27-17 victory over Army on Oct. 31, 2020.

The 97 OVR senior quarterback threw for only 139 yards, one touchdown and one interception. A big chunk of those yards came on a 49-yard touchdown pass to speedy running back Kadin Remsberg with 2:29 left in the first half, giving Air Force a 14-10 lead after being frustrated most of the first half.

Remsberg had only one more catch, a 6-yarder.

“I figured Kadin could get 300 receiving yards with the mismatches we could exploit, but Army did a great job by designing a smart defense that kept him covered and wasn’t predicated on outrunning our guys,” B-Dawg said. “My mistake was trying to keep forcing it deep, figuring the flood gates would open. I made it harder on us than it needed to be.”

Ryan Velez intercepted Hammond when the Falcons tried to chuck it deep on third-and-18 with 52 seconds left in the first half. The Falcons answered with three straight sacks of Cam Thomas, who came into the game when starter Ryan Pugh was knocked out with bruised ribs.

An 18-yard run by Hammond in the third quarter and a 31-yard field goal by David Chapeau on the first play of the fourth quarter boosted Air Force’s lead to 24-10 with 8:55 left in the game.

A 3-yard run by Fred Cooper with 3:26 left in the game got Army within 24-17. Following a 62-yard kick return by Luc Sturbelle, Air Force was able to work the ball into range for Chapeau to kick a game-sealing 26-yard field goal with 1:58 remaining.

Air Force is perfect against its military rivals, going 6-0 against Navy and Army through the first three seasons of this dynasty.

Air Force quarterback Donald Hammond sets up the game-sealing field goal
                      with a long run.

                        2020 RECRUITING UPDATE

                        Falcons land underwhelming recruits

One of these days, Air Force will land a haul of talented football recruits.

                        Today is not that day.

Phil Riggs, a 61 OVR cornerback, is actually the cream of the crop among four players who just committed to Air Force from the Class of 2021.

Joining Riggs are 58 OVR defensive end Alex Hemphill, 58 OVR defensive end Paul Kenney and 56 OVR outside linebacker Jason Prince.

Air Force had taken a flyer on 76 OVR halfback Kevin Townes, but he committed to Ohio State. Wouldn’t you if you were a 76 OVR halfback?

On the bright side, the loss of Townes opens up 500 recruiting points to spend on more realistic targets.

Nice to see Air Force winning in different ways this season, as well as maintaining that perfect record against its military rivals! Curious to see how long that lasts with Army and Navy usually becoming really good in NCAA 14.

Let me gaze into my crystal ball and give you a glimpse into the future ...

Yesterday, I played Army in the 2023 season. Army went into the game with an 8-1 record and a Heisman candidate at running back.

So, I'm about three full seasons behind on doing reports. I'm trying to write at least one report for every game I play in my current season so I at least don't fall behind further. I'm aiming more for two or three reports per game played. These things take me a little time, because I like to be thorough. I have to take the html stats and create a post on here and do "preview post" so I can see how the scoring went and what everyone did. When I play a game, I type out copious notes about big plays and my thoughts at the moment. Those thoughts in the moment are helpful, because when I do the report two or three months later, I want to still convey the emotion of the game.

Kadin Remsberg is sent spinning, but had the last laugh by running for 116 yards and catching six passes for 156.

Cameron Everts snags a touchdown catch in the rain at Hawaii.

                                He’s baaaack!
                                Remsberg breaks out of funk
                                in Falcons’ victory over Hawaii

HONOLULU — Welcome back, Kadin Remsberg. So glad you could join us.

Air Force’s speed senior halfback has routinely put up 100-yard games — rushing, receiving or both — during his three years under coach B-Dawg, but there was concern that the rest of the country had figured him out when he went five straight games without breaking the century mark in either category.

Well, nobody is going to talk mean about B-Dawg’s shiniest of toys.

With a more concerted effort to get Remsberg the ball, he broke 100 yards rushing and receiving in the same game for the third time in a 34-21 victory over Hawaii on Nov. 14, 2020.

Remsberg ran 15 times for 116 yards and one touchdown and caught six passes for 156 yards and one score. He became the first B-Dawg running back since Oregon State’s John Morton in NCAA ’09 to have three career games of 100 yards rushing and receiving. B-Dawg’s all-time record of six such games belongs to Vanderbilt’s Bryant McClellan in NCAA ’07.

“Kadin Remsberg will go down as one of my all-time greats,” B-Dawg said. “You’re not going to contain someone with his speed playing our schedule forever. I am just grateful to him for doing what he’s been doing, because it’s prompted me to take a trip down memory lane to recall former greats like Joey McBride, Bryant McClellan and John Morton.”

Air Force had just fallen behind 14-7 when Remsberg hauled in a 79-yard touchdown pass from Donald Hammond on third-and-14 when the strong safety was playing up for some stupid reason. Remsberg broke a tackle at the 10-yard line before finishing off the play.

The momentum quickly shifted in the Falcons’ favor. They tacked on a field goal with eight seconds left in the first half, then got a 13-yard run from Remsberg and a 22-yard touchdown catch from Cameron Everts in the third quarter to take a 31-14 lead.

Hawaii kept the heat on by getting a 3-yard touchdown pass from Jeremy Moussa to Drake Stallworth with 2:03 left in the third quarter, but the Warriors wouldn’t score again.

The Warriors certainly had chances to get closer, but Stallworth and Kumoku Noa dropped fourth-and-three passes deep in Air Force territory.

The baffling part was why Hawaii didn’t just kick a field goal and get within 10 points in each case.

“I’m not the brightest porch light on the block, but the CPU game management makes me feel like I’m Vince Lombardi out there,” B-Dawg said. “I’ve literally won games because of bone-headed decisions by the CPU. Of course, the CPU can say the same thing about me – if the CPU could talk.”

Following the second drop, Air Force milked the clock from 6:51 to 59 seconds before tacking one another field goal. Safety Gary Mossop sealed the decision by intercepting a pass on Hawaii’s first play of its next drive.
