Re: The 2022 NFL Draft: Day One

Whew, all caught up -- Lions had a very good draft I feel. They got their two big-time defenders and a QB late in the 1st as well. Not so sure about the Giants drafting another North Carolina QB and pairing him with McCarthy ... I think that's doomed for failure.

Vegas bringing in some ex-Packers in Rodgers and Adams is fun, this season has to be the one where they get somewhere in the playoffs or ownership pulls the plug on this regime.
    Any comments are welcome.

Re: The 2022 NFL Draft: Day One

The Lions are taking full advantage of the Rams trade and building a great foundation. Willis is boom or bust QB grab but with Goff still on the team he has time to sit and develop.

The Giants... they got arguably the top QB in the class but fans still can't be that excited about the McCarthy hire. Granted, the NFC East has been extremely mediocre for a while, so who knows, maybe he can lead them to an 8-8 record and playoff birth. On a side note, Daniel Jones was traded to Denver before the draft for a late-round pick. Then the Broncos moved up and grabbed Purdy. Fitzpatrick has the starting job on lockdown so RIP Jones.

Gruden and Mayock bought themselves two more years with the Rodgers and Adams moves. With 2023 and 2024 1sts gone, they'll either end up looking like geniuses, or be back to broadcasting.

        2022 Washington Preview

Washington 2022 Week 1 Depth Chart

        Washington Draft Grade: B
Washington traded up in round one to select Oregon's Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu, the versatile linemen who will slot in at right tackle to start his career. The team went defensive heavy afterwards, picking defenders with four of its next five picks.

        Draft Selections:
1.11 (BAL) OL Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu, Oregon
2.53 CB Al Blades Jr, Miami
3.75 (BAL) LB Amari Burney, Florida
        3.85 OL Viktor Beach, Purdue
4.117 S Trey Dean III, Florida
5.149 S Reed Blankenship, Middle Tennessee State
5.155 (CHI) WR Tyquan Thornton, Baylor
        6.181 TE Brant Keith, Utah
        7.213 RB Trey Pugh, Stanford

UDFA Signings: S Todd Harris Jr, LB Malcolm Rodriguez, TE James Mitchell, WR Tre Turner, K Blake Mazza, DE Isaac Hodgins

        Preseason Trade
        WR Terry McLaurin to Baltimore for 2023 1st, 2023 3rd, 2023 6th

McLaurin, who was is entering the last year of his rookie contract, was likely to walk or get franchised tagged by the team. Instead, Sonny Weaver him to Baltimore, recouping a 2023 first-round pick, which the team had traded to Baltimore to move up to 11th. The teams effectively swapped 1st-rounders next year, with the addition of extra draft capital going Washington's way. A tough deal for the team, but Weaver is confident in its current receiver group and the Ravens were willing to pay big to give Lamar Jackson a top-shelf target.

          2022 Houston Preview

Houston 2022 Week 1 Depth Chart

          Houston Draft Grade: C-
The Roughnecks had a rather unremarkable draft, no big splash movements made on the day, but the team managed to pick up some solid talent. Gardner may not have been the best player on the board at pick 26, but he represented the biggest need the team had and will be a day one starter across from Richard Sherman.

          Draft Selections:
          1.26 CB Ahmad Gardner, Cincinnati
2.58 OT Thayer Mumford, Ohio State
3.72 (MIA) RB Master Teague II, Ohio State
4.101 (LAR) CB Jermaine Waller, Virginia Tech
          5.154 DE Matt Henningsen, Wisconsin
5.157 (MIA) RB Jatarvious Whitlow, Western Illinois
          6.186 OT Mark Kallenberger, Iowa
          7.214 (DEN) S Isaiah Pola-Mao, USC

UDFA Signings: RB Jafar Amrstrong, FB Brayden Willis, WR Jalen Knox, TE Leonard Taylor, DEs Jacob Lichtenstein and Devin Kaufusi, CB Dreshun Miller, DT Coynis Miller Jr

It makes for an exciting AFC East race this year. The Chiefs struggled out of the gate last season and couldn't recover, paving the way for the Chargers and Broncos to make the playoffs. Look for them to bounce back. Mahomes, Herbert, Rodgers, and Fitzmagic all in one division!

                Week 1, 2022

                Washington (1-0) Outruns Dallas (0-1)

Arlington, TX - Ezekiel Elliot and Zack Moss combined for 393 yards rushing, with the latter setting a career mark with 263, on a day where neither defense felt like stopping the run. Moss broke of huge chunks early before draining the clock with a barrage of 4th-quarter runs that secure his teams first win on the new season.

Gardner Minshew, who beat out Kyle Trask for the starting job this past preseason, nearly took player of the game honors with is hyper-efficient day. He went 15 of 16 passing for 142 yards and a score, adding two more touchdowns on the ground, including a 14-yard touchdown run that surprised every linebacker on the field. The win also showed, like much of last season, that if Minshew players turnover-free football this team is hard to beat.

                Roughnecks (1-0) Squeak Out Win

Houston, TX - Jalen Hurts attempted 55 passes on the day, but it wasn't enough for his Eagles (0-1) to come away with the win. Neither team looked like they wanted to win the game through three quarters of rather boring football. It wasn't until Cam Phillips slipped behind the defense and housed a long touchdown pass from Walker that anything exciting happened. A blip on the radar, as both teams returned to sluggish play after the big score.

PJ Walker ended the day sacked five times, once for a safety, showing that much hasn't changed from a year ago when he set the single-season record for most times sacked. However, four of those came from coverage sacks and him being indecisive. The reigning MVP did not look in top form for most of the game, a worrying sign from a team that had zero going for it on the ground.

                    Re: Week 1, 2022

Coach Penn's offense is very RB-friendly and Moss is a great hard-nosed runner for it. If he can stay healthy, he has a shot at the rushing title. I think last season Lynn Bowden finished 4th in rushing after starting the first 9-10 weeks before losing snaps to a returning Barber and Moss.

EDIT: Going to be taking a break from this one as I've decided to consolidate my on-going franchises into one. Focusing on multiple teams, let alone different entire franchises, doesn't allow me to be as in depth as I'd like. Going to take all the ideas of past and present ones and make a singular franchise that will span over multiple versions of Madden.
