Texas | Madison and Tremblay done for the season

Big news out of the Texas camp this week just as their second bye week of the season has started with reports that junior kicker Kevin Tremblay and backup safety Deldrick Madison are both done for the season.

The injury to Tremblay is a massive loss for Texas with no other kicker on the roster the team will now have to look to punter Isaac Pearson to take over all kicking duties. Tremblay has made 8 out of 10 field goals this season but will now miss the rest of this season and is due to have surgery on the injury as early as tomorrow.

Madison, who has had limited playing time this season has recorded just four tackles.

"Kevin will undergo surgery," Warner told reporters after practice today. "We have tried to manage the injury for the last few weeks but the pain has got worse and with it being in his kicking foot we can't manage it any longer and he will need the surgery now based on doctors' opinions. Deldrick's injury isn't as severe as we first thought, but with the limited amount of games left this season he won't be back, he went to make a tackle and that shoulder just came right out of the socket."

AUSTIN, Texas -- All of a sudden, the Longhorns 2025 recruiting is starting to take shape. Texas flipped the commitment from the former Texas Tech pledge four-star Southlake Carroll linebacker Kahlee Chapman.

Texas has benefited massively from the hiring of defensive coordinator Andy Avalos after he was relieved from his head coaching role at Boise State. Under Avalos, the Longhorns rank top 20 in defense after finishing last season ranked 66th and that has transition has started to see results off the field with the signing of Chapman who is the #1 rated middle linebacker in the state of Texas and the #58th overall prospect in the 2025 class according to 247Sports.

Chapman, who has won two state titles in his time at Southlake High School is a renowned winner, something important to the Longhorns head coach Russell Warner. Listed at 6'3" 227-pounds, Chapman ran a 10.37 100m in high school and shows that speed on film as well. Chapman also exhibits the same tenacity that Avalos has found in Anthony Hill and Lewis Carter this season and should be a perfect fit in the system now installed in Austin.

The senior, who as we know was once a Red Raiders commit reopened his recruiting around four weeks ago took his official visit to Forty Acres during the Longhorns demolition job on Colorado State. Upon reopening his recruitment, Champman received offers from Georgia, Auburn, Oklahoma, and Alabama but chose Texas over all of those schools.

The 2024 San Antonio Sports All-Star selection had 106 tackles, 22 for loss, 12 sacks, and seven quarterback hurries, with two interceptions and a forced fumble in 15 games for the Dragons as a junior and is on course to be around the same as a senior.

Texas already has Anthony Hill inside, but Avalos scheme and sometimes line up four linebackers, with redshirt-freshman Isaiah Carlson currently filling that second inside spot. Jaylin Ford will graduate at the end of the season and former four-star Leviticus Su'a has struggled to make an impact. With Chapman's speed and tenacity to get to the quarterback, we could even see him move outside to edge when the Longhorns line up in a 3-4 scheme.

Kahlee Chapman will join fellow four-star Jay Boozer as the second get in the 2025 recruiting class for the Texas defense.

Normally I would, being a MAC team, but they beat a Georgia team ranked #6 in the nation at the time, and just handed #4 Utah their first loss of the season, so I thought I'd let them have their week in the limelight.

At the moment it is, however, I think that is going to all change as the season winds down though.

Then, as Texas fans, we agree! A&M is definitely a more heated rivalry.

                            ***************

College Station, Texas -- If there was ever a time to match a school record could there be a better way to do it than being down by four in the last minute of a game against your bitter rivals? I think not. Tight end Xander Weems did just that today, his two touchdown receptions in the 38-34 under the lights at Kyle Field gives the true freshman 13 on the year matching a record held by Jordan Shipley since 2009.

A total of thirty-one points were exchanged between the Longhorns and the Aggies with both teams going back and forth in their efforts to win. We even saw a raised smile from Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher as Haynes King found Moose Muhammad III for the go-ahead touchdown with just 52 seconds left on the clock, that smile was short-lived though when for the second time in the game Kelvontay Dixon beat Leonard Britt off the mark leaving the senior receiver open, and if it wasn't for a last-ditch tackle from Britt the Longhorns would have had the game-winning touchdown right there, two plays later they did with Klubnik finding Weems.

The last-minute win heaped yet another insult on Texas A&M's miserable season. Texas A&M's second home loss of the season means the Aggies are now 5-4 on the season and must now win against either #13 Oklahoma, #20 Missouri, or Ole Miss to even be bowl eligible this season.

"Two timeouts, 52 seconds left on the clock, no problem right," Texas head coach Russell Warner said with a small chuckle after the game. "What a game, one for the neutrals for sure but not so good on the old ticker for me. Cades has taken a lot of stick this season, he's had me in his face a few times today but those were two clutch throws towards the end of that one."

Cade Klubnik would finish the game 22-of-31 passing (70% completion rate) for 419 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. Whilst Weems will get all the headlines and understandably, both Kelvontay Dixon and Jaivon Ramsey both played pivotal roles in the win. Dixon caught four passes for 108 yards and a touchdown, whilst Ramsey caught four passes for 59 yards and a touchdown.

Texas didn't have its best performance of the season on defense, they gave up 470 yards of total offense to the Aggies. Anthony Hill, Vernon Broughton, and Sawyer Goram-Welch all recorded sacks of Aggies quarterback Haynes King, with Jaylin Ford also stripping the ball from the quarterback's arms when he took off for a rush, however, it was JD Coffey III who would seal the win for the Longhorns with an interception on a hail mary attempt from the Aggies as time expired.

The Takeaway: The Longhorns are now two wins away from matching their best regular-season record in the last six years when the Longhorns went 10-4 in Tom Herman's second season in charge.

Next week, Texas (7-2, 6-2) welcomes #20 Missouri (7-2, 6-0) into Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium for its last SEC game of the season. Missouri is currently unbeaten in SEC play and leads the SEC West, and last week took down Oklahoma 31-30 to solidify their position as West leaders. This game could really have a big effect on how the SEC Championship could unfold, it will also be senior day for the Longhorns.
