Orange Win Another Thriller With Late Hendrix Touchdown

It was another up and down night for Hendrix who overcame another three interceptions to toss this winning 75 yard TD to Dalton Wear, who took the slant and made magic.

LEFT - FS Rashaud Vasher ensuring the game stayed tied at the half, intercepting the late touchdown attempt by Hendrix for the 3rd INT of the 1st half for Hendrix.
CENTER - Lee Browner bounced back with 94 yards and two touchdowns after missing much of the last contest.
RIGHT - Nate Alba nearly upset the defending three time Champions, driving the Rebels to the Orange 12 yard line, but was sacked on 3rd and 10 and watched as the time ran out before he could get Ole Miss to the line.

Syracuse, NY. - For the 2nd straight game the Syracuse Orange took a 14-0 lead, but found themselves needing a touchdown in the final two minutes once again to pull away with a 42-38 victory over the previous undefeated Ole Miss Rebels (3-0).

Trailing #6 Ole Miss by three with less than a minute remaining, Hendrix shook off an otherwise rocky performance and delivered a 75-yard touchdown strike to Wear, lifting #1 Syracuse to a thrilling 42-38 victory in front of a sold-out JMA Dome crowd. The win kept Syracuse (3-0) undefeated heading into their bye week and marked their third consecutive win over a ranked opponent to open the season.

The game began in promising fashion for the Orange as Lee Browner ripped off a 25-yard touchdown run on the opening possession to give Syracuse a 7-0 lead. After a defensive stand, Hendrix added to the lead in the second quarter by finding Ryan Magoolaghan on a 39-yard touchdown pass, giving the Orange what felt like a comfortable 14-0 lead. But that’s when things unraveled.

On the ensuing drive, Hendrix threw his first interception of the game, allowing Ole Miss to capitalize with Nate Alba hitting Angelo Boger for a 21-yard touchdown. Two possessions later, Hendrix was intercepted again, and the Rebels immediately turned it into points as Alba connected with Ruben Thorne for an 11-yard score to tie the game.

Hendrix did temporarily atone for his mistakes on the following drive, hitting Wear in stride for a 83-yard touchdown, but Ole Miss continued to apply pressure. Following Hendrix’s third interception of the quarter, Alba again found Boger — this time from 16 yards out — to send the game into halftime tied at 21-21.

The second half became a war of attrition. Ole Miss opened the third quarter with a physical 5-yard touchdown run from Cortez Hardy to take a 28-21 lead, but Hendrix responded by engineering a methodical drive capped off by a 2-yard touchdown pass to Wear — their second scoring connection of the game. The teams entered the fourth quarter tied 28-28, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

Both teams exchanged touchdown runs early in the 4th quarter as neither team came up with a big enough play to pull away. Following a quick Syracuse three-and-out, Ole Miss burned clock and methodically drove into field goal range, setting up DiNapoli’s 46-yard field goal to give the Rebels a 38-35 lead with just 50 seconds remaining.

For most teams, it would’ve felt like the game was over. For Hendrix and Wear, it was just another opportunity.

On the first play of Syracuse’s desperation drive, Hendrix immediately looked toward his star receiver. Wear caught a short slant pass, made two defenders miss, and accelerated down the sideline for a jaw-dropping 75-yard touchdown, stunning Ole Miss and reigniting the raucous home crowd.

Still, Ole Miss had one last shot. Alba drove the Rebels down to the Syracuse 12-yard line with just 12 seconds remaining after connecting on gains of 27, 7, 14, and 21 yards. But the Orange defense held firm. On 3rd and 10, linebacker Deontae Mare sacked Alba, forcing a frantic attempt to spike the ball. Time expired before Ole Miss could get another play off, sealing another dramatic victory for Syracuse.

With three ranked wins under their belt, Syracuse enters their bye week as the clear frontrunner in the College Football Playoff race — but questions remain. Hendrix’s wild inconsistency, the defense’s occasional breakdowns, and injuries to key players like Browner have made every game a nail-biter.

“We can’t keep doing this every week,” Coach Savage admitted. “We love the fight, but we’ve got to clean it up.”

In other action, Ball State continued their early success with a dominant 28-10 win over #7 Tulane in New Orleans. Running back Daryl Pope once again stole the show, rumbling for 148 yards and 4 touchdowns, firmly establishing himself as the Heisman Trophy frontrunner.

Syracuse’s thrilling comeback victory paid off in a big way on the recruiting trail, as the Orange landed a staggering nine commitments in the aftermath — headlined by 5-star WR Jimmy McCann (#23 OVR) and 5-star DE Max Pelshak (#3 OVR).

Definitely big wins but games we let them get back into. After the 8 TD game for Hendrix I adjusted the sliders a bit and they definitely caught up with us. Still, great games aside from the inconsistency. Just got to make a few more plays on both sides of the ball and the games aren't as close. Still trying to find my "guy" on defense, all of the pass rushers have great ratings but don't have the same feel that Veasy had lol

              Orange Are On A Roll!

It appeared like the Orange defense was going to squander another early lead against Wake, but then Kevin Schweitzer snagged the first of two interceptions and returned it for a late touchdown to give Cuse a 35-14 lead at the break.

LEFT - Salesi Cherry coming up with a miraculous grab after two Syracuse defenders whiffed on the red zone INT.
CENTER - HISTORY!!! The first blocked kick in Coach Savage's (and Coach Reds for that matter) career!
RIGHT - Two interceptions appeared to turn the tide for the Deacons, but the Cuse defense held firm forcing field goals on both drives and blocking the 2nd out right..

Winston-Salem, NC. - Syracuse’s high-powered offense once again proved too much to handle, as the top-ranked Orange stormed into Winston-Salem and left with a convincing 56-27 victory over No. 17 Wake Forest. Behind another prolific performance from quarterback Immanuel Hendrix, who tossed five touchdown passes, the Orange improved to 5-0 on the season and continued their march toward a potential playoff return.

Syracuse wasted no time setting the tone, as Hendrix found Dalton Wear for a 10-yard touchdown pass on the opening drive before connecting with tight end Ryan Magoolaghan for a 53-yard score to take a quick 14-0 first-quarter lead. Wake Forest responded in the second quarter when Cam Ruffin found Moses Eddy for an 86-yard catch-and-run that cut the lead in half. However, the Orange were unfazed, with Hendrix answering by tossing a 24-yard touchdown to Magoolaghan for their second connection of the day. Wake Forest refused to go away quietly, responding with another Ruffin touchdown pass — this time to Noah DeVries from 21 yards out — to once again trim the deficit to seven.

Just as the Demon Deacons looked primed to make it a game, the Orange delivered a crushing blow late in the second quarter. Hendrix capped a 65-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown strike to Roy McCleon before the Syracuse defense made its biggest play of the game. Wake Forest, hoping to close the gap before halftime, instead watched cornerback Kevin Schweitzer jump a route and return an interception 46 yards to the house — giving the Orange a commanding 35-14 halftime lead.

Hendrix stayed hot in the second half, opening the third quarter by launching a 63-yard touchdown strike to Wear for their second connection of the game and extending the lead to 42-17. Wake Forest added a field goal and another passing touchdown from Ruffin, but the game was well out of reach at that point. Running back Lee Browner put the finishing touches on the win with a pair of fourth-quarter rushing scores, sealing Syracuse’s fifth consecutive victory.

Despite allowing 402 total yards (357 through the air), the Orange defense continued to be opportunistic — forcing two interceptions, blocking a field goal, and recording six sacks on the afternoon. Schweitzer was particularly impactful, not only returning a pick for a touchdown but also grabbing a second interception later in the contest. Hendrix finished the day 16-of-21 for 391 yards and five touchdowns, pushing his season total to 27 passing scores through five games. Browner added 195 rushing yards and two scores, while Wear continued his sensational season with another 203 yards and two touchdowns on four catches.

Elsewhere in the Big 12, Ball State enjoyed a well-deserved bye week after dismantling Boise State 55-24 a week prior. Star running back Daryl Pope continued his torrid pace with 263 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

Off the field, the Orange’s momentum continued on the recruiting trail. Five-star tight end Tracey Kashama, the No. 23 overall prospect, announced his commitment to Syracuse shortly after the game despite taking an official visit to Notre Dame during the weekend. However, the Orange did suffer a minor recruiting setback when five-star quarterback Frank Thomas opted to stay close to home and commit to Maryland, leaving Syracuse still searching for their future signal-caller.

Syracuse remaisn on the road next week as they travel to Chesnut Hill, where the Boston College Eagles hope to score more than a lone field goal against their rival.

Isaiah Largent is quickly emerging as the replacement for Jason Veasy, stripping QB Leo Nowak in the endzone. DT Terrell Sturm would recover as the Orange defense scored 3 1st half TDs.

Boston, MA. - Syracuse continued its dominant run with a 59-21 rout over Boston College, jumping out to a commanding 45-0 halftime lead before cruising to victory with the second unit playing the entire second half.

The Orange wasted no time setting the tone, marching down the field on their opening drive behind a 32-yard burst from Lee Browner and a 33-yard strike to Dalton Wear, which set up a short touchdown pass to Wear. The defense quickly joined the scoring party, as Jermaine Boutte blocked a Boston College field goal attempt, and Layne Smith scooped it up for a 65-yard touchdown return. Just moments later, Syracuse’s relentless pass rush struck again, with Isaiah Largent forcing a fumble in the end zone that Terrell Sturm recovered for another defensive touchdown, making it 21-0 before BC even knew what hit them.

Syracuse continued piling on in the second quarter, with a Devon Heaps field goal, another long Hendrix-to-Wear connection, a 58-yard Browner touchdown run, and a pick-six from Jeremiah Paris putting the Orange up 45-0 at halftime. The defense, aptly nicknamed the ‘Cuse Crushers,’ racked up seven first-half sacks and forced three turnovers to completely overwhelm the Eagles.

Boston College found some life in the second half against Syracuse’s backups, putting up 21 points, but Channing Dillard and the second-string offense answered with a 36-yard touchdown to Spencer Everett and a late 1-yard score by Nolan McKay to cap off the dominant road win.

Meanwhile, Ball State remained unbeaten at 6-0 after rallying to defeat Baylor 35-21. Freshman QB Emeka Kikaha replaced struggling starter Taylor Beckner and led three consecutive scoring drives to power the Cardinals to victory. HC Mark Stoops left the door open for Kikaha to keep the starting job, stating he would play “until he’s not,” acknowledging the freshman would stay in so long as he didn't force the coaches hand.

Syracuse returns to the JMA Dome next week for a rivalry clash against 5-1 West Virginia, looking to keep its unbeaten record intact.

LEFT - Trailing 26-7 late in the 1st half QB George Douzable tried rallying the Mountaineers for a decisive score before the half, but instead found senior CB Kevin Schweitzer for a pick six.
CENTER - Douzable took advantage of an early Hendrix INT with this 72 yard bomb to HB Marvin Stewart on the wheel route.
RIGHT - Dalton Wear wishing the visiting Mountaineers safe travels on their way home.

Syracuse, NY. - Top-ranked Syracuse continued its dominant run, steamrolling West Virginia 56-14 in front of a raucous home crowd to retain the Ben Schwartzlander Trophy for a fifth straight season. The win marks the Orange’s 22nd consecutive victory dating back to the 2031 season, as head coach Nash Savage remains undefeated in this heated rivalry.

The game started with fireworks, as Immanuel Hendrix connected with Ryan Magoolaghan for a 7-yard touchdown to open the scoring. West Virginia briefly responded with a 72-yard touchdown strike from George Douzable to Marvin Stewart, but that was the last time the Mountaineers would find momentum. The second quarter belonged entirely to Syracuse, as Devon Heaps drilled a 36-yard field goal, followed by a team safety, a 12-yard rushing touchdown from Hendrix, a 32-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Wear, and a 73-yard interception return for a touchdown by Kevin Schweitzer. By halftime, the Orange had built a commanding 33-7 lead.

West Virginia found the end zone early in the third quarter on a 34-yard run by Stewart, but Syracuse quickly shut the door with another deep shot from Hendrix—this time a 49-yard strike to Roy McCleon—before the defense notched another safety, courtesy of Terrell Sturm. The final quarter saw Lee Browner punch in a 4-yard touchdown run before Hendrix threw his fourth touchdown of the day, a 10-yard score to Wear, solidifying the 56-14 final.

The Syracuse defense was relentless, racking up seven sacks while scoring twice on safeties, one by Sturm and the other by defensive end Manu Good. Meanwhile, Ball State continued its rampage through the Big 12 with a 66-7 drubbing of Nebraska. Freshman quarterback Emeka Kikaha, a Nebraska native, threw four touchdown passes, while running back Daryl Pope gashed the Cornhuskers for 321 yards and five touchdowns, bringing his season totals to a nation-leading 1,436 yards and 17 scores.

Up next for Syracuse is a massive road showdown in Landover, Maryland, against the third-ranked Terrapins. With ACC Atlantic supremacy hanging in the balance, the Orange face their toughest test yet in a game that could have major College Football Playoff implications.

Both teams are rolling. Only question is can Ball State win a playoff game

the game against Maryland is likely going to be for the division for Cuse. Miami dropped the ball this year and is currently 1-3 in the division, so barring a huge turnaround they're out of the picture.

Big 12 is more wide open, they've still got 5 more conference games to go, but as long as Kikaha can keep the ball from going to the other team we should be in good shape with how Pope is playing.

LEFT - Wear with the beautiful over the shoulder grab for the 61 yard TD and an early 7-0 Cuse lead.
CENTER - Safety Mike Vohasek with the leaping grab on an errant pass from Hendrix, one of two on the day for the junior. Despite the early 2nd half INT and great field position, Maryland would turn the ball over after a failed 4th and 1 conversion attempt.
RIGHT - Safety Layne Smith with the clean footwork on the sidelines for the late 1st half INT to set up Hendrix's 4th TD pass of the half.

College Park, MD. - Top-ranked Syracuse (8-0) proved its dominance once again, pulling away late to take down #3 Maryland (6-2) in a pivotal ACC Atlantic showdown. Quarterback Immanuel Hendrix bounced back from early mistakes to throw for five touchdowns, while the Orange defense came up with timely stops and key turnovers to remain unbeaten and seize sole possession of first place in the division.

The game started as a back-and-forth shootout, with both teams trading punches in a high-powered first quarter. Hendrix opened the scoring with a 61-yard bomb to Dalton Wear, but Maryland quickly responded with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Nick Faulk to Shane Self. The Terrapins then capitalized on a Hendrix interception, setting up a five-yard touchdown run by Max Alford to take a brief 14-7 lead. However, Hendrix answered immediately, launching a 75-yard strike to Ryan Magoolaghan to knot the score at 14 after one.

Syracuse began to take control in the second quarter. Maryland tacked on a 32-yard field goal, but Hendrix found Larry Pettis for a 21-yard score before connecting on a game-changing 50-yard touchdown to Spencer Everett following a Faulk interception. The Orange entered halftime with a 28-17 lead.

Hendrix’s second interception of the game gave Maryland a chance to claw back early in the third, but the Syracuse defense stood tall. Facing a crucial 4th-and-1 inside field goal range, the Terrapins opted to go for it but were stuffed by defensive end Isaiah Largent. Maryland did manage to cut the deficit to 28-23 on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Faulk to Barry Epperson, but a failed two-point try kept them from getting any closer. Syracuse extended its lead again on an eight-yard touchdown run by Lee Browner, heading into the fourth quarter up 35-23.

The Orange put the game away in the final period. Devon Heaps drilled a 45-yard field goal, and after Faulk’s second interception set up a 15-yard touchdown pass from Hendrix to Wear, Syracuse found itself up 45-23. Maryland fought back briefly, with Faulk scrambling for a 26-yard touchdown before converting the two-point attempt, but a failed onside kick led to Browner’s second touchdown of the half, sealing the 52-31 victory. Faulk’s desperate attempt to salvage points on the final drive resulted in his third interception of the night, cementing Syracuse’s statement win.

With the victory, Syracuse now sits alone atop the ACC Atlantic, holding tiebreakers over both Maryland and West Virginia. The Orange return home next week for a rivalry showdown against Pitt, aiming to continue their undefeated march toward the College Football Playoff.

Meanwhile, in the Big 12, Ball State continued its historic season with a dominant 48-17 victory over Missouri. Running back Daryl Pope exploded once again, racking up 281 rushing yards and four touchdowns, including a 75-yard score on the game’s first play. With five games of 200+ yards this season, Pope has now reached 1,717 rushing yards—putting Barry Sanders’ legendary all-time record within reach.
