LEFT - Jakhari Williams started the game 6/6, but would finish the 1st half a miserable 7/14 as the senior QB missed wide open targets.
CENTER LEFT - Williams' struggles continued into the 2nd half with a pair of interceptions, including this one in the end zone. Marvin Vega's momentum would carry him out of bounds at the 1 yard line, proving disastrous for the Hokies.
CENTER RIGHT - VT opted for the read option on their own 1 yard line and paid for their foolishness with a safety.
RIGHT - Deron Wusu was burnt for the 87 yard TD to open the 2nd half, but called game with this 4th quarter INT as Virginia Tech attempted to overcome the 43-28 deficit with another big play.

BLACKSBURG, VA – The #5 Syracuse Orange (8-0) continued their march toward the College Football Playoff with a 43-28 road victory over Virginia Tech (4-4), powered by a strong start, clutch defense, and another dominant showing from the ‘Cuse Crushers defense.

Syracuse came out firing, as quarterback Jakhari Williams led back-to-back touchdown drives in the first quarter, including a 54-yard strike to Mateo Chickillo. Williams started the game 6-for-6 for 104 yards and a touchdown but hit a cold stretch in the second quarter, missing seven straight passes before connecting with Jaylan Hornsby to set up a 42-yard field goal by Desmond Brewer.

Virginia Tech opened the second half in explosive fashion with Davi Belfort’s 87-yard touchdown bomb to Dante Westbrook, cutting Syracuse’s lead to 24-21. The Orange responded with a 37-yard Brewer field goal before their defense came up big.

Williams was intercepted in the end zone late in the third quarter, but Tech safety Marvin Vargas stepped out at the 1-yard line. On the very next play, the ‘Cuse Crushers’ defense swarmed a read-option attempt, tackling the ball carrier in the end zone for a safety, swinging momentum back in Syracuse’s favor.

After Virginia Tech closed the gap to 36-28 with 5:56 remaining, Williams and the Orange engineered a clutch 10-play drive, highlighted by a 33-yard scramble on 3rd-and-7. Williams capped it off with his second rushing touchdown of the night, giving Syracuse a 43-28 lead with 1:46 left.

Any hopes of a Hokies comeback were dashed just two plays later when Deron Wusu intercepted Davi Belfort, securing another road victory for the Orange.

Syracuse’s ‘Cuse Crushers’ defense recorded six more sacks, led by linebacker Sean Schlauderaff’s two. The unit now has an astonishing 47 sacks on the season, further cementing its reputation as one of the most relentless pass-rushing groups in the nation.

Syracuse now turns its attention to a heated rivalry matchup against West Virginia next week at the JMA Wireless Dome. With an undefeated season still intact, the Orange will look to keep their momentum rolling in front of their home crowd.

Over in the MAC, Ball State responded to their first conference loss in three years with a 77-14 demolition of Miami (OH). Quarterback Titus Awe bounced back in spectacular fashion, accounting for eight total touchdowns (six passing, two rushing) just a week after his five-turnover performance.

Syracuse continues to prove why they’re one of the most dangerous teams in the country. With an elite defense and a clutch quarterback, the Orange remain firmly in the hunt for a playoff spot.

LEFT - Jakhari Williams didn't complete many passes on the afternoon, but his first was a beaut. 54 yard post to Ja'Meer Thomas for the TD.
CENTER - Larry Luani with the lucky bounce, nabbing the deflection from Devon Wusu to finally get the Mountaineers in the endzone.
RIGHT - Read option in the end zone? Bad idea. For the 2nd straight game the defense secures a turnover on the 1 yard line (this time a Jakhari Williams fumble), but give up the quick safety.

Syracuse, NY. - The #3 Syracuse Orange (9-0) steamrolled the West Virginia Mountaineers (3-6) 54-17 to retain the Ben Schwartzwalder Trophy, showcasing a relentless rushing attack and a stifling defense that former coach Ben Schwartzwalder himself would have admired.

After a relatively slow start, Syracuse erupted for 31 points in the second quarter, capitalizing on a defensive fumble recovery and three consecutive three-and-outs by the Mountaineers.

Quarterback Jakhari Williams delivered an inefficient yet explosive performance, finishing 7-of-15 for 176 yards and three touchdowns. His first pass of the day was a 54-yard strike to Ja’Meer Thomas on a deep post, setting the tone early.

The Orange’s ground game was the real story, led by JC Hoag, who racked up 217 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Versatile playmaker Spencer Vernon added 124 total yards and a score as well.

For the second straight game, Williams had a turnover at the goal line, this time fumbling at the 1-yard line, where West Virginia recovered. However, the ‘Cuse Crushers’ defense quickly turned it into points, stuffing a read-option attempt in the backfield as linebacker Sean Schlauderaff blasted through for a safety.

Syracuse’s defense, which now has 51 sacks on the season, added four more, including one from Schlauderaff and another half-sack from standout freshman Jason Veasy.

Elsewhere in college football, Ball State secured a 45-31 win over Ohio, but the real headline belonged to Philip Onwualu, who broke the NCAA all-time receiving yards record. Onwualu’s 11 catches for 192 yards and three touchdowns pushed him past former teammate Nyck Harbor’s record of 6,187 career yards, and he is now just two receptions away from passing Zay Flowers’ NCAA record 399 career catches.

Syracuse now faces its toughest challenge yet—a top-five showdown against #4 Miami in a battle for the ACC Atlantic Division. The stakes couldn’t be higher, as a loss would likely eliminate either team from conference title contention.

Adding fuel to the fire, Syracuse head coach Nash Savage made headlines in an interview with The Daily Orange, downplaying Miami’s storied history by saying “The U” meant nothing outside of the Hurricanes program. Miami head coach Kenny Dillingham fired back, stating his team had taken note and planned to remind Savage exactly what ‘The U’ represents.

With playoff implications, a brewing coaching rivalry, and two of the most dominant teams in the country, next week’s clash in Hard Rock Stadium is shaping up to be the game of the year.

Another big game from Hoag.. At the beginning of the year, I wondered what your run game was going to look like cause you didn't really commit to Hoag as your true #1 RB, but he has really delivered this season.. Williams also has done a great job of holding onto the #1 QB job. He had a rough outing against V.T. throwing the ball but made up for it with his legs. Then against WVU does a great job of just running the offense and taking that the Defense was giving you.

Big game coming up.. Love the trashing talking of the "U" You know you will have Coach Miller and the Panthers cheering you on for a big "W" this week.

One of the things I love about the veer and shoot playbook is with the WRs so wide, it leaves a ton of room in the middle of the field for the HB. As long as they can get through the line, its usually a 1v1 with a LB/S to the 1st down marker. Our run game has been consistent all season which has helped when Williams loses his touch, which I'm not sure why. He'll just start sailing easy passes and then end up having an 0-5+ stretch. I actually envisioned it the other way around, with Vernon being the main HB and Hoag being a scat back but Hoag has really stepped up. With the QB change next year having him and Vernon in the backfield is going to give us a solid option to lean on.

And yeah, huge game against Miami coming up. We're both 5-0 in the division, with Maryland at 4-1, so whoever wins has basically a two game advantage with the tiebreaker with two games to go. Miami plays Maryland next week and we close the season with them, so Maryland still has a chance to beat us both out with wins over the next two weeks. Going to be a tight race, but if we take care of business we'll be in. Likely against Clemson who is running through the Carolinas division.

Hoag isn't in the conversation surprisingly, although he leads FBS in yardage.

                  Alex Felton WR Clemson #1
                  Spencer Vernon HB Syracuse #2
                  Jay Farris QB Clemson #3
Philip Ownaulu WR Ball State #4
                  John Waddy QB USF #5

Onwualu just broke into the race after recording 11 receptions for 183 yards and 4 TDs last week.

My guess is he'll climb even higher this week

                    Onwualu Stands Alone.

MUNCIE, IN – When Philip Onwualu arrived at Ball State in 2025, the former four-star recruit from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was joining a program on the rise under newly hired head coach Nash Savage. Four years later, he stands alone as the NCAA’s all-time leader in career receptions, cementing his status as one of college football’s greatest receivers.

On a storybook Senior Night, Onwualu delivered a historic performance, securing his 400th career reception in style—a 58-yard touchdown grab, perfectly exemplifying the spectacular plays that have defined his career. When the dust settled, he had 13 receptions for 236 yards and six touchdowns, a fitting way to take his place in the record books.

From the moment he stepped on campus, Onwualu flourished in Savage’s up-tempo veer & shoot offense, which prioritized quick reads, explosive plays, and high-volume passing. As a true freshman, he posted 103 receptions, 1,556 yards, and 15 touchdowns, immediately establishing himself as a premier playmaker.

His sophomore and junior campaigns were equally electric:
                    • 2026: 112 receptions, 1,863 yards, 23 touchdowns
                    • 2027: 104 receptions, 1,522 yards, 19 touchdowns

Despite these eye-popping numbers, Onwualu often played in the shadow of his teammate, Nyck Harbor, who shattered NCAA single-season and career receiving records for yards (which Onwualu now owns with 6,624 yards and counting) and touchdowns. Still, Onwualu was no stranger to the spotlight. He delivered one of the greatest title game performances ever, catching 8 passes for 189 yards and 4 touchdowns in Ball State’s first-ever National Championship win, finishing as the runner-up to Kaiden Semonza for game MVP.

Following the departures of Harbor, Savage, and Semonza, the 2028 season became Onwualu’s proving ground. With a new quarterback and coaching staff, could he thrive as the unquestioned WR1?

The answer has been a resounding yes. Through just 10 games, Onwualu has racked up 92 receptions, 1,683 yards, and 25 touchdowns, with two regular-season games left and another deep playoff run expected.

Then came Senior Night, where Onwualu forever etched his name in history. As he hauled in his record-breaking 400th career reception—a breathtaking 58-yard touchdown grab—the Ball State crowd erupted, celebrating a player who had given them so many unforgettable moments.

Though Nash Savage couldn’t attend due to his Syracuse Orange preparing for their showdown in Miami, he sent a pre-recorded message played on the jumbotron. In the heartfelt five-minute video, Savage praised Onwualu’s relentless work ethic, leadership, and commitment to being both a great player and an even better teammate.

His former quarterback, Kadin Semonza, made the trip back to Muncie, embracing Onwualu at midfield during a halftime ceremony commemorating the milestone.

With two games left in the regular season and another playoff run looming, Onwualu has a chance to further extend his record and cement himself as one of the greatest receivers in NCAA history.

For now, though, he stands atop the record books, forever a Ball State legend.

And his story isn’t finished yet.

Anyone wondering why Spencer Vernon is in the Heisman conversation, despite not leading his team in rushing yards, needs only to watch the highlights of this evenings contest in which the converted QB amassed 184 total yards and 4 touchdowns including this 44 yard over the shoulder TD.

LEFT - 'Cuse got a break on the kickoff after going up 17-7 thanks to the forced fumble by FR LB Clay Mooney, eventually leading to Vernon's 2nd TD of the day and a commanding 24-7 lead.
CENTER - Jason Dombrowski wriggled free with a 61 yard catch and run strike to tie the game at 7 after early miscues by both offenses.
RIGHT - Jason Veasy putting Judd Anderson down, hard. Hard Rock Stadium cascaded boos down onto the Hurricanes after the sack on 4th down ended the day for their offense.

Miami, FL. - In a top-five showdown with ACC title implications, the #3 Syracuse Orange (10-0, 6-0 ACC) overpowered the #4 Miami Hurricanes (7-3, 4-2 ACC) in a 38-15 statement victory, fueled by a dominant second half and a Heisman-worthy performance from Spencer Vernon.

The victory puts Syracuse in firm control of the ACC Atlantic Division, with only two games remaining before a potential conference championship berth.

Both offenses opened the game sluggishly, with Syracuse stalling on fourth-and-goal from the 3-yard line on their first drive, while Miami missed a 56-yard field goal on their opening possession.

Syracuse’s Desmond Brewer had a chance to put the Orange ahead with a 23-yard field goal, but his kick went wide right to end a scoreless first quarter.

In the second quarter, chaos ensued. Miami appeared to take the lead when linebacker Kevin Bagent returned a Spencer Vernon fumble 99 yards for a touchdown, but replay overturned the call, ruling Vernon’s knee was down. On fourth-and-goal, Jakhari Williams leaped over Miami linebacker Patrick Hendrix for a 1-yard touchdown run, putting Syracuse up 7-0.

The Hurricanes quickly responded as Judd Anderson found Jason Dombrowski for a 61-yard touchdown, knotting the game at 7-7. Syracuse would reclaim the lead before halftime with a 35-yard Brewer field goal, sending the Orange into the break up 10-7.

After a Miami punt to open the second half, Syracuse put together an 11-play drive, capped by a 32-yard Spencer Vernon touchdown catch on a wheel route on 3rd-and-19.

Disaster struck for Miami on the ensuing kickoff when Dombrowski fumbled, setting up a 1-yard Vernon touchdown run just two plays later. Things went from bad to worse for the Hurricanes, as Judd Anderson threw an interception, and Syracuse capitalized instantly with a 44-yard Vernon touchdown catch, stretching the lead to 31-7.

The Hurricanes showed some fight in the fourth quarter, sparked by a 48-yard pass to Eric Keglar that set up Shakim Granger’s 5-yard wildcat touchdown and a successful two-point conversion, closing the gap to 31-15.

However, Syracuse crushed any hopes of a comeback with a punishing, clock-draining 11-play, 89-yard drive, capped by Vernon’s fourth touchdown of the day—a 1-yard run—putting the game out of reach at 38-15.

Miami made one final push, converting two fourth downs before freshman defensive end Jason Veasy sealed the game with a fourth-down sack, sending frustrated Miami fans streaming for the exits.

Syracuse now controls the ACC Atlantic Division at 6-0, setting up a potential division-deciding showdown with Maryland in the season finale—if the Terrapins win out.

Before that, the Orange return home for Senior Night against Virginia, aiming to keep their undefeated season intact.

With a dominant performance in Miami and Spencer Vernon strengthening his Heisman candidacy, Syracuse is rolling toward a potential ACC Championship and College Football Playoff berth.

Syracuse just keeps on rollin', rollin', rollin' (*Limp Bizkit voice*) in this first season with Coach Savage! The Miami win was a definite eye-opener - particularly that second half - and really establishes the Orange as a title favorite. May we see a potential Cuse-Ball State CFP matchup in a few weeks?

When they scored with the 2PT conversion my first thought was here we go. But then we were able to grind out a long drive and kill enough clock that barring the bizarre we had the win in the bag.

They're both in the latest CFP polls, but on opposite sides of the bracket. I've thought about a potential matchup between the two and I would control Syracuse exclusively, but it would be interesting how the game would go with the CPU running the show for them. But evereyone's got to get to that point first! Its looking like Clemson is going to be our opponent for the ACC title game if we get there and they're no slouch. Plus I've lost my fair share of 1st ronud/Quarterfinal games with USC so anything can happen

LEFT - Fellow senior WR Phil Hutton and Williams hooked up for 3 touchdowns on the day including a pair from 70+
CENTER - Soma Okwara was 14/18 for 218 yards and 2 TDs in the 1st half, but sacks took their toll on the Cavaliers QB after the break, tossing two INTs.
RIGHT - Jason Veasy lead the Orange with 2 1/2 sacks as the 'Cuse Crushers' tallied another 7 sack effort, 5 of which came in the 2nd half.

Syracuse, NY. - The top-ranked Syracuse Orange (11-0) overcame an early 14-point deficit to storm past Virginia (3-8) with a 40-20 victory on Senior Night, securing their spot atop the ACC Atlantic division.

Senior quarterback Trevor Louis started under center for the Orange but struggled to generate offense, leading just one scoring drive on three possessions before yielding to Jakhari Williams. By the time Williams entered with just over six minutes remaining in the first half, Syracuse trailed 17-3. The senior quarterback wasted no time making an impact, orchestrating back-to-back scoring drives, including a 79-yard touchdown strike to Phil Hutton and a 39-yard touchdown run to tie the game at halftime.

Virginia quarterback Soma Okwara was red-hot early, completing 7 of his first 8 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns as the Cavaliers stunned the Syracuse defense. However, the Orange defense adjusted in the second half, clamping down on Okwara and shifting the game’s momentum.

Syracuse opened the third quarter with a defensive stand, capped by a sack on third down. Williams then found Hutton for an 18-yard touchdown to give Syracuse its first lead of the game. On the ensuing Virginia possession, Bradley Land intercepted Okwara, setting up another Williams rushing touchdown. Virginia managed just a field goal the rest of the way, as Hutton torched the Cavaliers’ secondary again for a 71-yard touchdown reception, his third score of the day.

In the final quarter, the Syracuse defense put the finishing touches on the win, with senior linebacker Adrian Nitschke recording a safety to seal the 40-20 victory.

Jakhari Williams led the Orange with an efficient performance, completing 10 of 16 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns while adding 38 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground. His top target, Phil Hutton, exploded for 178 yards and three touchdowns on just five receptions, proving to be a game-changer in the passing attack. Virginia quarterback Soma Okwara put up a strong fight, finishing 25 of 36 for 342 yards and two touchdowns but was ultimately undone by two second-half interceptions. Defensively, Syracuse dominated the trenches, with Jason Veasy recording 2.5 sacks and Jayden Brown adding two more.

With Maryland’s loss to Miami earlier in the day, Syracuse has officially clinched the ACC Atlantic division, securing their place in the ACC Championship Game regardless of next week’s outcome against Maryland.

Meanwhile, Ball State improved to 9-2 with a dominant 35-14 win over Kent State, securing a spot in their fourth consecutive MAC Championship Game.

The Orange will close out the regular season next week on the road against Maryland, looking to complete a perfect 12-0 season before shifting their focus to postseason play.

Congrats on the win over Miami and the big win on Senior Day... I assume the upset by UNC over Clemson doesn't really do anything with the division and you will see play Clemson for the title..

Not sure if its possible but should Syracuse/Ball State play each other, maybe you could play offense for both teams and have it be a absolute shootout, but at the time time I feel like the tread is about Coach Savage thus Syracuse deserves his full attention..

I know when I played Boise State when I was at Texas Tech those were always hard games for me. As was my first 2 games against BSU with Coach Miller. It's part of the reason I stopped scheduling the Broncos. Should Miller ever leave FIU I would probably wait a year or 2 before playing them with my new team.
