Build up your goalie and defense first. Defense wins championships!! Draft Hedman. If you don't need a defenseman or goalie, I would go with Tavares, or whoever happens to be ranked #1. Any chance of trading down for extra picks?

I've got DiPietro so I've got to hope he decides to become elite. I could definitely use Hedman though. But yeah, there's a good chance I could trade down.

            Stanley Cup Playoffs Conference Finals

            May 14th, 2009
Sharks 1, Red Wings 2 (DET leads series 1-0)
-Tied 0-0 heading into the 3rd, Detroit scores 2:38 in before Hossa makes it 2-0 just past halfway through. Thornton would get one for San Jose with 1:23, but it wouldn't be enough.

            May 15th, 2009
Panthers 1, Hurricanes 3 (CAR leads series 1-0)
-Walker and Horton would score in the first and it would stay tied until the 3rd when Carolina would get goals from Eaves and Whitney to secure the win. Ward was solid making 22 saves.

            May 16th, 2009
Sharks 3, Red Wings 0 (Series tied 1-1)
-Thornton, Cheechoo and Michalek would all get a goal and assist each and Nabokov would make 18 saves for the shutout to even up the series.

            May 17th, 2009
Panthers 1, Hurricanes 3 (CAR leads series 2-0)
-Dvorak would get Florida the lead early in the 2nd period but 5:26 into the 3rd, Staal would tie it before scoring again 1:25 later to give Carolina the lead before Corvo would get the insurance goal a few minutes later as the Hurricanes storm out to a 2-0 series lead.

            May 18th, 2009
Red Wings 1, Sharks 2 (SJ leads series 2-1)
-Nick Backstrom would score 11:02 into the game to give San Jose the early lead and it would stay that way until Goc made it 2-0 with 4:53 left in regulation. Hossa would get it back 1:19 later, but it's the only goal Detroit would get past Nabokov who was strong again, making 23 saves as his Sharks would take the advantage in the series.

            May 19th, 2009
Hurricanes 4, Panthers 3 (OT) (CAR leads series 3-0)
-In a game where each team scored in each period, it was Carolina getting the last laugh as Rod Brind'Amour would score the first goal in overtime and his 2nd of the game to give the Hurricanes a 3-0 stranglehold on the series. Eaves had 3 assists while Cullen chipped in a goal and assist for Carolina as well.

            May 20th, 2009
Red Wings 1, Sharks 3 (SJ leads series 3-1)
-Zetterberg would score 3:55 into the game for Detroit, but it was the only goal they could get past Nabokov as he was strong yet again making 24 saves. Backstrom would score 2 of the San Jose goals while Thornton got the other and added an assist on one of the Backstrom goals as well as the Sharks move on win away from the Stanley Cup Finals.

            May 21st, 2009
Hurricanes 3, Panthers 2 (CAR wins series 4-0)
-Scott Walker would score 3:38 into the game on the penalty kill before Eaves would make it 2-0 just under 4 minutes later. It would stay that way until just before the 7 minute mark of the 2nd when Horton would score on the powerplay to cut the lead to 1. 6:31 into the 3rd and Olesz would tie it with another powerplay marker but just 1:20 later Eric Staal would get Carolina the lead back and Ward would shut the door the rest of the way to eliminate Florida and get his Hurricanes into the Finals.

            May 22nd, 2009
Sharks 2, Red Wings 3 (SJ leads series 3-2)
-Tied 2-2 going into the 3rd, it looked like it would stay that way until Hossa scored with 24 seconds left to keep Detroit's playoff hopes alive.

            May 24th, 2009
Red Wings 2, Sharks 3 (OT) (SJ wins series 4-2)
-Torrey Mitchell would get San Jose on the board first, 12:37 into the first but Jiri Hudler would tie it with 2:36 left in the period and the 1-1 score would hold up until Tomas Holmstrom scored with 4:19 left but Detroit couldn't hold onto the lead as Backstrom would tie it just 42 seconds later and we'd be headed to OT. 4:04 into overtime and it would fittingly be Backstrom putting the dagger through the Red Wings to win the series and move the Sharks into the Stanley Cup Finals against the Hurricanes.

                Stanley Cup Finals

                May 27th, 2009
Sharks 3, Hurricanes 2 (SJ leads series 1-0)
-No scoring until 12:06 into the 2nd when Rod Brind'Amour (also had an assist) gets Carolina on the board first. It would stay that way until 2:26 into the 3rd when Cheechoo would tie it up. 4:01 later and Doug Murray would give the Sharks the lead. 5:31 left in the game when Aaron Miller would tie it up for the 'Canes. But the home fans would be going home angry as just 1:36 later, Jeremy Roenick would net the game-winner for San Jose giving them game one of the series. Nabokov kept up his solid play making 27 saves.

                May 29th, 2009
                Sharks 2, Hurricanes 3 (Series tied 1-1)
-Another game that wouldn't see its first goal until the 2nd period, this time from Ehrhoff with 5:48 left but Cullen would answer back just 2:09 later on the powerplay to tie it up. 5:05 into the 3rd and San Jose would get the lead back courtesy of Backstrom on the powerplay. The Sharks would hold the lead until Chad LaRose would tie it with 2:52 left and then with only 15 seconds left Laaksonen would give the Hurricanes the win to even up the series at 1.

                May 31st, 2009
Hurricanes 1, Sharks 5 (SJ leads series 2-1)
-Evidently San Jose wasn't too happy about blowing that last game as Marcel Goc would score 1:41 in before Patrick Marleau would make it 2-0 just under 5 minutes later and the rout was on from there. Anson Carter had a goal and 2 assists while Joe Pavelski and Nicklas Backstrom each had a goal and assist.

                June 2nd, 2009
Hurricanes 2, Sharks 3 (SJ leads series 3-1)
-Another early goal, though this time it was Tuomo Ruutu (also had an assist) getting Carolina on the board first 1:11 in. Almost exactly 7 minutes later though, Milan Michalek would tie it. It would stay that way until halfway through the 2nd when Cheechoo would give the Sharks the lead, he would later add an insurance in the 3rd before Kaberle would score for the Hurricanes to make it look interesting.

                June 4th, 2009
Sharks 3, Hurricanes 2 (SJ wins series 4-1)
-San Jose would get 3 goals in the first period from Boyle, Thornton and Michalek. The Hurricanes would get one in the 2nd from Eaves before Saprykin would cut the deficit to 1 4:46 into the 3rd, but it was all Carolina could muster as San Jose would hold on for the win and the Stanley Cup.

                    YES SHARKS!!!

And, considering your position in your last couple of games, I'd draft Tavares, it seems like your need a consistent goal scorer.

                        NHL Entry Draft

1st Overall (STL): C John Tavares - Oshawa Generals (OHL)
2nd Overall (NYI): D Victor Hedman - MoDo (SWE)
3rd Overall (ATL): C Valentyn Kusy - Mississauga Ice Dogs (OHL)
4th Overall (PHX): C Tim Milikin - Miami (CCHA)
5th Overall (NSH): C Ryan O'Reilly - Erie Otters (OHL)
6th Overall (MTL): LW Magnus Svensson-Paajarvi - Timra IK (SWE)
7th Overall (NYI): C Brayden Schenn - Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL)
8th Overall (COL): RW Jordan Schroeder - Minnesota (WCHA)
9th Overall (TOR): C Jordan Caron - Rimouski Oceanic (QMJHL)
10th Overall (EDM): C Landon Ferraro - Red Deer Rebels (WHL)

                        Other Islanders Picks:
3rd Round: D Stefan Elliot - Saskatoon Blades (WHL)
5th Round: RW Robert Hooter - Kingston Frontenacs (OHL)
5th Round, 15th Pick (via Tampa Bay): RW Rehor Faimon - HK 32 (SVK)

Note: To get the 7th overall pick in order to get Schenn (he was a 5 star rated prospect by both of our top scouts) we traded our 2nd Round Pick, C Ben Walter, C Tomas Marcinko and RW prospect Shea Guthrie. And in case anyone is wondering why I took another defenseman in Elliot, here's his stats: 75 GP, 26 G, 48 A, 74 PTS. Add that to being rated 5 stars by my #2 scout and it was a no-brainer.

Yeah, it worked out nicely. They might be able to crack the lineup, Hedman especially, but if not this year they should definitely both be ready next year.
