In some preseason action we had today we had an exciting game that was the first ever NHL game for the Winnipeg Outlaws. They were facing the Buffalo Sabres at home in Winnipeg.

The first period was an all out defensive battle with no goals being scored. But in the first Mikko Holopaien nailed Thomas Vanek in the boards. He would not come back but they believe that he will be ready for the regualr season. In the first period Miller had 9 saves and Burns had 7.

In the second period it was much of the same game until about 3 minutes left until Paul Gaustad got called for high sticking. Alex Gibney took advantage slapping one past Miller with 2:30 left in the period. But that wasn't the end as Matt Ellis scored with 13 seconds left in the 2nd period.

6 minutes into the third Derek Roy took a nice pass Jochen Hecth as he tapped on in past Burns. Fast forward to 1 minute left in the game. All was looking down for Winnipeg when after about 3 shots with 30 seconds left Peter Carey got the rebound and scored. It was 2-2 going into over time.

Overtime was a goalies game as they stopped just about everything. With about 2:30 left in overtime all 4 Sabres were heavily on the attack so Peter Carey secretly snuck behind them and got a pass from Hart getting him on the breakaway. With a nice deke he got one past Miller. Game over. The save count was Miller 29/32 and Burns 33/35.

Ya you had a great game. You had 2 assists, a huge hit that sent Vanek to the dressing room. 2 other huge hits that created momentum and a shot that hit the post.

And here were are with a recap of Winnipegs away opener. And what a fine day it was for them. Burns helped to make a huge blowout.

Today started off rough for Winnipeg as literally 20 seconds in Peter Blake received a game misconduct for slashing T.J Oshie. (I wasn't even controlling Blake). In that 5 minute penalty kill Andy McDonald took a nice cross crease pass from Keith Tkachuk to make it 1-0 STL. Burns was still solid as they had 11 shots and a few good scoring chances during the STL Powerplay. 5 minutes after the PK was done Jamie Feliner of Winnipeg had a nice wrister past Mason making it 1-1. And 20 seconds later on a odd man rush Johnny Spezza took a pass from Alex Gibney and drove it to the back of the net. Even after being out shot 18-9 in the 1st period Winnipeg went into the intermission with the lead.

The second period started off right on track as 1 minute in Patrick Smith scored on a wrap around. But after that Mason kinda of cooled off and played solid. He made good saves and made it 3-1 for the whole second period. Nothing much interesting happened this period.

The third period was much the same as the second as nothing really interesting happened until with 7 minutes left A Gibney completely laid out David Backes picked up the puck passed it to J. Spezza who banked it off the boards to P. Smith leaving him on a breakaway and he did not disappoint going top corner to make the score 4-1. The game ended 4-1 and Winnipeg starts the preseason 2-0. Burns completly robbed STL making 35/36 saves. Mason went 25/29.

Don't get too ahead of yourself. First of all you are on my 3rd line now and after promoting you to my third line you did pretty well. Also you have an A potential. You won't be wining the art ross but I can guarantee you at least 25 in your rookie season.

Nice job, Peter.

The play that you scored on with the breakaway was just so nice. It felt like chemistry. I don't think I will seperate you from Spezza unless something changed. You might have a new Left Winger on your line as I have been playing pretty bad on the first line for both games. I am thinking of putting Hart on the first line so it looks like this.

Outlaws Start Pre-season 3-0

Stuff started well for the outlaws as 8 minutes in Jim Vandemeer took a shot which hit the post leaving Jamie Feliner to tap it in for the easy goal. Anders Eriksonn got into penalty trouble for hooking. While on this penalty kill Mikko Holopainen cleared the puck, while the pucking was flying Mathew Clark and Jeff Schultz were racing for the puck but Schultz got there first but that didn't stop Clark as he hit Schultz from behind head first into the boards. Schultz would not get up and he is questionable for the regular season. Clark would get a boarding call.

The second period went started off well too as 4 minutes in Ethan Hart took a pass from Jamie Feliner and jammed it in in the side of the net. The caps would not give up though as Brendan Morrison would shot the puck once then shoot again causing Burns to dive then shot again to score. Coach MacKenzie called it a defensive collapse. Then 5 minutes later Anders Ericksonn would be called for hooking again. The caps would capitalize as Semin would take a one timer from Eric Fehr to make it 2-2. But that wasn't enough to stop the Outlaws as Hart would deke out Mike Green do a fancy move as wrist it past Varlamov. The period would end 3-2 outlaws.

The third period went back and forth with powerplays and chance but nothing would happen for most of the period. With 6 minutes left Nick Ritt hit Alex Semin so hard into the board that Semin could not get up. We have no word on his injury but he looks like he will start the first game of the regular season. Also with one minute left Jamie Feliner crashed the net and Mike Green hit causing the puck to roll slowly off his stick into the back of the net. Varlamov was obviously angry fro letting in such an elementary goal. That blowed the Caps chance of coming back and the game ended 4-2 Winnipeg.

I was very surprised about him. He wasn't much of a factor in this game he had 2 shots 3 hits in 20 minutes and was minus 1. If could have been because every time he touched the puck someone on my team would wreck him with a huge hit.

They are a tough team but if you can contain Ovie then you are fine but they are beasts on the powerplay.
