San Jose Downs the Outlaws
Today was the day where someone could finally down the red hot Outlaws. "It was a game of mediocre shot selection and a crazy goalie performance" says Outlaw's coach Bob MacKenzie. Both teams went into this game undefeated in the preseason.
The first period was like any other period with back and forth chances and great scoring chances for both teams. Luckily the goalies on both teams made the game scoreless. Nabokov had 14 saves while Burns had 12 in the opening period.
The second period started the same as the first and it was like the first for most of the period until a bad line shift caused Marlau and Heatley to go on a 2 on 1 against Holopainen, Holopainen could not handle the two and they had nice passing which lead to a San Jose goal. MacKenize later said "Don't blame the guy that was there (Holopainen) on the two on one, blame it on the guys who weren't there." This is when Winnipeg really started to slump, they could shoot but not finish. "I counted at least 4 shots that went off the post in 5 minutes," said MacKenzie again later on. Anyways the period ended 1-0 Sharks. Burns was 21/22 and Nabokov was 24/24.
The third period started the same as the ending of the second. More bad shots and posts. Dan Boyle took a slapshot 6 minutes into the game that was redirected by Joe Thornton that slipped past Logan Burns. Fast forward to with 5 minutes left and Winnipeg was really putting pressure on Nabokov but he could not snap and he saved a total of 39 saves that game and those aren't including ones that went off the post. He deserved the shutout. San Jose Wins 2-0. Logan Burns went 31/33.
