Hey Gang, The season will start in the next day or so. I have been away as my wife gave birth to our newest son a couple of days ago.

              1 VS 2
              FINAL

              HUNTING SEASON HAS BEGUN!!
Modano nets Game Winner, Wings win 2-1

DETROIT, MI - The Detroit Red Wings opened up the 2010 - 2011 regular season at the Joe Louis Arena last night and came away with a thrilling 2 - 1 win over the Anaheim Ducks in front of a sold out crowd.

Anaheim got things off to a soar note when Jason Blake took a feed pass out in front from Cory Perry and flipped it past Jimmy Howard just 0:54 seconds into the game to give the Ducks a 1 - 0 lead. The Wings would respond late in the period when Jiri Hudler recovered a rebound after his first shot in the slot and banged it home to time the game up at 1 - 1 at the end of 1.

There was not scoring in the second period, but in the third period we got to see one of the newest Wings and vetern players in the NHL score his first of the season on a breakaway by Mike Modano.

That gave the Red Wings a 2 - 1 lead and they would hold on to win the game by that same amount. Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard stopped 31 of the 32 shots on goal that he faced in net tonight to earn the top star of the game.

The Wings now hit the road and travel to Chicago to face off with the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center on Saturday Night, October 9th with a 7:00pm Eastern, 8:00pm Chicago time puck drop.

Congrats on starting the season well with old man Modano netting the game winner in his first game. Though I'm surprised with the amount of shots (Hiller played outstanding), it's nice to see Hudler also get involved as well.

But allowing Jason Blake to score on you is unacceptable.

Nice start. Nice to know you have secondary scoring that will push you over the top when your big guns miss fire.

I agree about Blake scoring, usually when I play the ducks I spend most of the game trying to knock blake out just because of his "performance" in T.O. Not that I blame him for accepting the contract that they offered lol.

anyways, keep it rolling and good luck!

                    HAWKS RAISE BANNER, CLIP WINGS

CHICAGO, IL - The Chicago Blackhawks came home to the United Center in downtown Chicago for their home opener and to raise to the rafters their new Stanley Cup banner and the energy from the ceremony from the fans fed into the entire game as Chicago rolled past the Wings 5 - 1 last night.

The Blackhawks opened the score in the first when Jeff Taffe slid one underneath the glove of Jimmy Howard to make it a 1 - 0 game. The Wings would respond with their only goal of the game when Brian Rafalski hit a streaking Henrik Zetterberg on a breakaway for his first goal of the season the game was tied at 1 - 1. Chicago would finish off the scoring in the first period when Brent Seabrook let a rocket go that beat Jimmy Howard to give Chicago a 2 - 1 lead after the first period.

Chicago did not let up in the second period as two misques by the Red Wings cost them when both Patrick Kane ( 3:34 ) and former Wing Marian Hossa ( 6:12 ) put in 2 goals unassisted to put the Blackhawks up 4 - 1 after the second period.

While the Wings faught hard to come back in the third and rang the posts of the net behind Chicago netminder Marty Turco it was the Blackhawks who scored the loan goal of the third when Jonathan Towes score his first of the season from Patrick Sharp and Brent Seabrook to seal the win for Chicago 5 - 1.

The Wings now have a couple of days off before returning home to the Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday night October 12th when they host the visiting Colorado Avalanche with the puck dropping at 7:30pm.

Tough loss to the Blackhawks. Couldn't quite figure out Turco, and all those goals were even strength to boot.

Get it together for Colorado brah

                        1 VS 3
                        FINAL

                        THIRD PERIOD AVALANCHE CRUSHES COLORADO
Wings score 3 in third to skate pasted Colorado

DETROIT, MI - The Detroit Red Wings returned home to the Joe Louis Arena in Downtown Detroit Tuesday night to face off with the Colorado Avalanche and were able to walk away with a 3 - 1 victory.

The Red Wings would start veteran goaltender Chris Osgood in net tonight and he would show that he is still got his game. The Colorado Avalanche would jump out to the lead on a lucky bounce when Ben Walter tried to send a pass though the crease and it would be deflected by Ruslan Solie but into the air and over the shoulder of Chris Osgood to give the Avalanche a 1 - 0 lead.

There would be no scoring in the second period of the game but in the third the Wings offense came alive and it would start with this goal at the 6:45 mark of the period off the stick of Jonathan Ericsson....

Ericsson would score his first of the season to tie the game at 1 - 1. The Wings would then think they would take the lead on this deflection by Pavel Datsyuk....

The goal at first would be waved off due to watch they thought was a high stick but after a further review it was determined that the stick was below the crossbar and the goal would count. It was Datsyuk's first of the year and gave the Wings a 2 - 1 lead with 0:51 seconds left in regulation. Tomas Holmstrom would add an empty netter to give the Wings a 3 - 1 win.

The Wings now hit the road starting Thursday night in Dallas to face off with Mike Modano's former team, The Dallas Stars.

Solid game for Osgood in what's usually a heated match between the Avalanche and Red Wings.

Nice third period. Good job not letting those ******s from Colorado win one in Motown.

Center to be out 2 - 3 Weeks

DETROIT, MI - The Detroit Red Wings announced that Center Valtteri Filppula will be out of action for the next 2 to 3 weeks with a fractured right elbow that he suffered in the win over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday Night at the Joe.

The Injury came on a shot from the point off the stick of Brian Rafalski and Filppula was trying to redirect but it hit his elbow instead and dropped him to the ice. Filppula will stay home and not join the team on the road trip starting tonight in Dallas.

                              Ouch, dam friendly fire.
