Calgary Flames Be A GM: C of Red

    Hey Guys,

It has been a long time gone for me but I am back with a Calgary Flames GM Mode. I am not quite sure if I am going to blow it up or slowly retool the team, but I suppose I shall wait and see how the team does. I sim games and just take a GM's role. As you can see I won't be making flashy posts but ones that get right into the nitty gritty of what I have done or how the team has done.

To start off the team has a ton of UFA's and RFA's all coming up this offseason. I think this will end up in me selling off a bunch for picks and prospects but the season aim is 42 wins.

I just started the preseason with a road game in Vancouver. The team lost 2-1 in a SO with Stempniak scoring with assists to Stajan and Tanguay.

2 days later GM Jay Feaster announced his first trade of the 2011-12 season by sending RW David Moss (81) and a 2012 5th Round pick (CGY) to Nashville in return for RW Jordan Tootoo (81)

If anyone wants an update on a team or player and how they are doing, just ask. Also, I will periodically ask for what could be good to ask for or recieve for in a trade for certain players.

Thanks and I hope a couple of you follow!

    Hey Guys,

    HOME: 4-2 W over Trade: September 29th, 2011
    G Henrick Karlsson (81) + LW Pierre-Luc Leblond (74) to lace w:st="on">Winnipeglace> for C Patrice Cormier (78) + 2012 4th Round Pick (WNP)

What do you all think of the acquisitions of Jordan Tootoo and Patrice Cormier and what I gave up for them? Too much, too little? Do you find them realistic?

In all fairness, there has been more than you with that name, and it is quite a familiar phrase with any Calgary fan.

Also note, I do not see the name Quackjack anywhere in my post!

I would also like to note that I had no intention of stepping on anyones toes.....webbed or not.

Says the guy that traded for Malkin and Stamkos.

The main thing is to stick with it TML. I'd like to see a proper rebuild since Dynasty didn't finish his. Good Luck.

Thanks man, I like your chise too, I like seeing what you do with your teams. Any thoughts on the current trades? I have one more just before opening game that I am about to post.

Just as the Calgary Flames were warming up for the season and home opener for the 2011-12 season, everyone noticed that Scott Hannon left the warm up very early after being called over to the bench. The Flames had a rough go with their home opener against a regenerated Pittsburgh Penguins squad with both Crosby and Malkin in the lineup. Crosby and Malkin both chipped in 2 goals and 2 assists each.

After the game a press conference was held in the main lobby of the Saddledome and GM Jay Feaster announced that Scott Hannon was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in return for young Canadian gun, Zach Kassian.

                Trade: October 8th, 2011
D Scott Hannan (83) to Buffalo for RW Zach Kassian (75)

                Home: 5-1 L to Pittsburgh

Also note, M. Backlund is for some reason making 7.410M for this season...not sure why thats his salary but its only for this year so I won't be able to bring him up to the big squad at all.

                  Also my lines are currently:

                  93 Cammalleri - 8 Morrison - 12 Iginla 'C'
                  40 Tanguay 'A" - 18 Stajan - 22 Stempniak
                  20 Glencross - 90 Cormier - 15 Jackman
                  41 Ivanans - 13 Jokinen - 16 Kostopoulos
                  5 Giordano - 33 Babchuk
                  4 Bouwmeester - 6 Sarich
                  7 Butler - 3 Carson
                  34 Kipprusoff
                  31 Ramo

Key Players on the Abbotford Heat:

                  C M. Backlund - 81 B-/B-/B-
                  LW R. Horak - 78 B-/C/C
                  RW Z. Kassian - 75 B-/B-/B-
                  RW G. Nemisz - 74 B-/B-/B-
                  LW R. Howse - 71 B/B-/B-
                  D T. Brodie - 74 B-/B-/B-
                  G L. Irving - 76 B/B/B

C P. Cormier - 78 B-/B-/B- (Cormier is currently on the Flames Roster as B. Comeau and J. Tootoo are out with injuries for 3 and 4 weeks respectively.

A lot of not so ready prospects but in a couple years will be, I expect to resign Backlund and have him in my top 6 next season provided I don't find a good package for him to be involved in.

I would tend to agree with SENS, make it real, and stick with it. Good luck.

Thanks Tazer, in your opinion are the trades realistic enough?

And what is everyone's opinion on Colten Teubert? Is he a prospect worth going after? Is he a stud or dud?

doesn't matter - as a Flames GM, you simply don't deal with the Oilers, period.

Hence I take good prospect and give them someone not so good!

                            October Report:

The Flames started the season off very slowly going 0-3 but then finished October going 5-0-1 to finish the month 4th in their division. That may sound bad but they finished the month 7th in the West and in the top 16 of the NHL. The Flames have been without Comeau and Tootoo for most of the month but will see both of them return in the next week or 2.

                              November Report:

The Flames went 8-6-0 in the month of November. They have been staying the course in the Western Conference and are 6th in the West and 12th in the NHL. Both Comeau and Jordan Tootoo returned during the month to much delight of the Flames fans as they brought back a physical presence that GM Jay Feaster has started the campaign addressing. On the topic of Jay Feaster and addressing the physical presence, he made another trade in November.

                              Trade: November 4th, 2011

Flames send RW Lee Stempniak (82) to Minnesota in exchange for RW Cal Clutterbuck (82) and 2012 3rd Round Pick (MIN)

Feaster was noted as saying that Flames were poorly managed in the past and that he will be putting forth most of his effort int retooling what can easily be a team that can make an impact in the playoffs.
