    Detroit Redwings BEaGM (a re-start)

Detroit AP- Prior to the 2011-12 season the Wings received word from coach Babcock that he was going to retire. This came as a huge shock to the entire wings organization.

I had no idea Mike was considering this. We spoke several times after last season and he never mention this.
GM Ken Holland speaking to the Detroit media.

So the Wings went looking for a new coach. They decided to hire from within and relative unknown in hockey, Alcide Spitz. The new coach was on the staff for the Wings ECHL team the Toledo Walleye as the head scout/ Assistant Director of player personnel.

“We decided to stay inside the Wings family for our new coach. Some may think this is a reach with the hiring of a scout from our farm team. But I wanted a different presence in the locker room and behind the bench. I think our new guy can win over the team and gain the respect needed from the players”
Gm Holland talking about his new hire.

The new Wings coach did not respond to any media attempts to talk to him about his new job in the NHL. The only respond came from the Wings media relations department saying that the coach will talk to the media some time in the near future.

    Wings opening day lineup:

*Ok i have decided to re-start my wings dynasty. I have already simmed the 2011-12 season up to the trade deadline and will provide updates from that point forward.

Why did you decide to sim? I always feel that we miss a piece of your dynasty puzzle.

i do not have alot of time to play games, get info for updates which i do by either writing down on paper or take pics with my phone. then i take it to work and update from work during my breaks or free time. I basically have about an hour to play and get updates at night . Also i really want to get to the playoffs play those games and then get to the next season so that some of the older players move on and i can bring the kids up lol.

I know what you mean. I can not play long as well. My dynasty isn't going that fast at all. Not fast enough.
It would be nice to have in between updates before the trade updates.
I still be following. Like the Red Wings , espescially Datsyuk!! Good luck.

          Trade Deadline 2011-12

The Detroit Redwings had to decide what they will do going into the trade deadline. The sit outside of a playoff spot with a 31-31-2 record, they had to decide sell or buy.

Well the deadline came and went and the Wings pulled of 2 trades

          1st trade:
          To : CGY 2012 3rd rd pick and (D) J. Henry

          To : F. Brunnstrom, 2013 4th rd pick

Breakdown: Calgary was looking for offense, Brunnstrom was an extra player in Grand Rapids. This move allows a younger player to take Brunnstroms mins in GR and develop.

This also will give Detroit another pick in the 3rd rd.

          2nd trade:
          To : 2012 1st rd pick

          To : Brad Stuart

Breakdown: Stuart is a free agent at the end of the year and there were no contract discussions between Stuart’s camp and GM Ken Holland. It is a known fact that Stuart would like to have return to the West coast to be closer to his family who didn’t move out to Detroit when Stuart signed. This move gives LA depth on the blueline and Det a 2nd pick in the 1st rd.

Some in Detroit will see this trade as the Wings giving up on the season, GM Ken Holland is of a different opinion.
We got something out of this deal in the 1st rd pick, this sets up for the future. As for this season we are close to a spot, but with the way the team has been so up and down we don’t know where will finish. Maybe the team will grow closer because of this trade and finish strong. Time will tell.
A look at deals around the NHL:

          To : T. Daley
          To : 2013 1st rd pick, R. Strom, A. Nilsson

          To : C. Clutterbuck
          To : N. Gerbe, 2012 7th rd pick

          To : D. Murray, A. Murray
          To : K. Ellerby, A. Esposito

          To : M. Biron, 2012 3rd rd pick
          To : Z. Stortini

          To : J. Demers, J. Godfrey
          To : B. Marchand, S. Thorton

Detroit AP- Detroits run of making the playoffs ends at 20years. They finished 12th 4pts out of the playoffs.

We are very disappointed about the season, we had high expectations this season but we were very inconsistent throughout the season

Re: Detroit Redwings BEaGM (a re-start)

Heading into the 2012 Entry Draft the Wings had their targets, eyes on certain players. They would have the 5th overall pick plus the 23rd pick the received from LA in the Brad Stuart trade.

                  The Redwing draft picks:

                  1st rd 5th overall
                  (D) Ryan Murray
                  6' 1" 188lbs
                  76ovr
                  B-/A-/B

                  1st rd 23rd
                  (C) Jean Kristoff Grenier
                  6' 6" 188lbs
                  68ovr
                  A/C/B-

GM Ken Holland on the teams 2 1st rd picks

We needed to get a top blueline prospect and a big power forward and i think we did that with picking Murray and 6'6" Grenier. Murray has all the tools to be a top line dman and would could see a pairing of Murray and Smith (Brendan Smith the teams top blueline prospect) in the future.
                  2nd rd picks
                  (D) Mathew Dumba
                  6'1" 176lbs
                  74ovr
                  B-/B-/B-

                  3rd rd picks
                  (C) Chase Clayton
                  5' 11" 168lbs
                  68ovr
                  B-/C/B-

                  (D) Derrick Pouliot
                  6' 1" 195lbs
                  74ovr
                  A-/C/B-

                  5th rd pick
                  (RW) Kip Stamkos
                  6' 0" 191lbs
                  72ovr
                  B-/B/B-

                  6th rd pick
                  (G) Osar Dansk
                  6' 3" 188lbs
                  73ovr
                  C/B-/B-

                  7th rd pick
                  (LW) Andrew Ryan
                  6' 2" 187lbs
                  68ovr
                  B-/B-/B-

I think we came away with some very good talent with our picks. We were able to add 3 good dmen to the blueline in Murray, Dumba and Pouliot and then add a very big center who looks to have some decent POT. It will be interesting to see how late picks Stamkos (had to take him just because of his name hehe) and Ryan turn out with their B- POT.

                    Jard Boll
                    Brenden Mikkelson

Gm Ken Holland on the Wings off-season so far

For starters we will miss Big Bert and Homer in the locker room and on the ice they were big parts of this team.
Next we are extremely happy that Nick decided to come back for this year, we were also able to get a contract done with kroner as well. He is very important to our blueline now and in the future when Nick decides to hang up his skates.
We also were able to add a couple pieces to the team with Regin, Boll and Mikkelson. We see Regin competing with Emmerton and Andersson for the 4th line center spot. Boll will give us a little bit of toughness in the bottom 6 and Mikkleson was brought in for depth on the blueline.

The Wings signed a few prospects to entry level deals and will see them during training camp and pre-season games. The big question will be can Ryan Murray (18yo) and Tomas Jurco (19yo) make the team. Jurco is a talented forward drafted last year in the 2nd round. Murray is the Wings top pick this year and instantly is the Wings top prospect on the blueline behind Brenden Smith.

Coach Alcide on the young players

We will give the youngsters their chance during the pre-season, they will get a lot of playing time to show us what they can do, what their weakness are.

                      Post Game:
Petr Mrazek was excellent in the game stopping all 25 shots from Nashville. The 2nd line (Tatar, Jarnkrok, Pulkkinen) really was the best line in the game. Their 2 goals were results of great passing by all 3 forwards.

the teenagers Ryan Murray (scored a goal) and Tomas Jurco looked pretty good out their on the ice. Jurco has some speed to his game but lacks strength. Murray is the opposite strong kid but lacks speed.

Pre-Season Game 1 player observations from Coach Alcide:

                        [quote]
Tomas Jurco- As I said earlier speed is his game, he is highly skilled but does lack in the strength department. He did get knocked off the puck a little to easy. Looked at home on Pavel’s right side.
Ryan Murray- Strong kid, but lacks speed and acceleration right now. Made a couple real nice plays stepping up taking the body and intercepting passes, very smart out there on the ice
Tomas Tatar- his line was the best line tonight. He is very shifty and quick and had some nice plays.
Calle Jarnkrok- Very smart player, crafty but small, he will need to add some bulk to this frame. His line was very good all night but he can get knocked around very easily right now.
Teemu Pulkkinen- Great shot, he didn’t score tonight but you can see he has a pro caliber shot. His skating does need some work, he is very much that “Brett Hull” type player. He wont be the one carry the puck but he will be the one you look for in the zone to shot the puck.
Brendan Smith- looked very comfortable out there with Kronner. Good speed, quickness very nice shot. Did play physical when needed but didn’t go out of his way to be physical
Petr Mrazek- oh man he was excellent tonight. Stopped everything and looked very poised. His movements in the crease were quick and decisive. Gave up too many rebounds something he will have to work on for the future.

Not sure i plan on playing most of the games this season. Simming last season det ended up out of the playoffs. So hopefully i can at least get into the playoffs.

So my goal will to be make the playoffs.

                            Expectations:
i expect that it will be tough to make the playoffs. lol
