Detroit makes couple roster moves

Detroit made a trade, signed a free agent goalie and sent down their backup goalie.

Detroit sent J. Boll and their 2014 1st rd pick to Winnipeg for their 2013 1st rd pick.

Detroit also signed free agent goalie 43yo Dwayne Roloson to a 1 yr contract. The current backup goalie Joey McDonald recent play led to the signing.

We had to do something about the backup position. The last couple starts by our backup have been well no so great.

McDonald was sent down to Grand Rapids shortly after the team announced the signing of Roloson. He will have to compete with Mrazek and Pearce for playing time in GR.

Tomas Jurco the Wings rookie forward was lost for 2 weeks after falling and hitting the boards akwardly.

He has a neck strain and should be back in 2 weeks

my defense has issues LOL. after my 10game updated ive simmed another 10 games (played in a couple) and my team is lacking on the defensive side. i think right now my goal differential between goals for and goals against is like 3. team is scoring alot but giving up alot right now. Not sure what to do about it. I think one reason is that i have 2 rookies on the blueline Brendan Smith and Ryan Murray plus Jakub Kindl is in his 2nd season so that i think is contributing to my teams defensive shortcomings.

Detroit trades Brendan Mikkelson to Buffalo

Brendan Mikkelson and free agent signing by Detroit in the off-season was sent along with the Wings 2013 1st rd pick to Buffalo for the Sabers 2013 1st rd pick. Mikkelson was signed to compete for a spot and provide depth on the blueline. But with the unexpected play by rookie Ryan Murray who earned a spot on the team Mikkelson was sent to Grand Rapids. He found himself behind Murray, Kindl and Ericsson on the depth chart.

We basically did this deal because Brendan was stuck behind a couple defensemen and wouldnt see playing time in Detroit so he had asked for a trade. The 1st rd pick swap gives us as of right now 2 1st rd picks in the top half of the draft with the possibility of one them ending up a top 5 pick. This will give us a few options come draft day. Buffalo was looking for a dman and Branden was available.

The Wings now have Buffalo and Winnipeg's 2013 1st rd picks. If the season ended today (ive simmed up to almost xmas time in game) the 2 picks would be in the top 10.

Mikkelson was currently playing in Grand Rapids he spot will be taken by rookie Gleason Fournier.

Quick team update during simming:

Tomas Jurco returned to the lineup which pushed cleary down to the 3rd line RW and Eaves 4th line RW. Currently Detroit is #1 in the West with 51 pts, Datsyuk is 4th (i think) in league pts.

I will have a complete update maybe later tonight or tomorrow night.

I am hoping the picks end up in the top 10, right now they would be but i think i have half season to go still.

I may look to add to my center prospects....not sure how jarnkrok, griener and sheahan will turn out. I think that is my weakest area among propects. wing and d i have pretty good depth i can add to those areas with later picks.

Wings Offense powers them past the Sharks




This was game 40 for Detroit, next couple post will be a 40 game update stats, league standings, league leaders. This game i simmed periods 1 and 2 and then played the 3rd period.

Wings added Roloson to take over the backup position and he has played better than McDonald in his 2 games. The Wings need to work on defense rest of the season they sit in the bottom half of the league in GA and mid-pack on the penalty kill.

We have to work our defense out or we will have a short playoff stay

Wings made a couple lineup changes prior to their next game against Nashville.

Jonathan Ericsson will be a healthy scratch and Jakub Kindl will take his spot.

White will now be paried with Kronwall while rookie Brendan Smith will skate with Lidstrom.

Patrick Eaves will swap spots with Daniel Cleary. Eaves to 4th line, Cleary to the 3rd line.

Tomas Jurco's hattrick propels Wings




Detroit AP- Going into the 3rd period the Wings and Predators were tied 1-1 then rookie Tomas Jurco went to work. Jurco recently returned to team after sitting out with a neck injury scored his 1st NHL hattrick (natural hattrick) with 3 goals in he 3rd period. The only 3 goals by either team. Pekke Rinne started the game for Nashville but was pulled after the 1st period. The reason was still unknown. There was no apparent injury to Rinne and the score was only 1-0 after the 1st period.










This was game 41, i simmed the 1st two periods and then played the 3rd period.
