Yep, the expectations were high with Buffalo.

Season 1: 47 wins (Failed), ECF (Failed)
Season 2: 49 wins (Success), ECF (Failed)
Season 3: 50 wins (Failed), ECF (Success)

I'll take the change in scenery though. Edmonton has an arsenal of young weapons.

Oilers Acquire Two-Time Conn Smythe Winner Blake Wheeler on Draft Day
              Los Angeles, California
              June 25th, 2014
New Edmonton Oilers GM Block M made a huge splash in just his first month on the job by acquiting two-time Conn Smythe winner Blake Wheeler from the Winnipeg Jets prior to the start of the 2014 NHL Draft.

The Jets approached Edmonton early in the day wanting to acquire winger Magnus Paajarvi for Wheeler and Winnipeg's 2015 1st round selection. After an hour of discussion the trade was finalized with Blake Wheeler heading to Edmonton for not Magnus Paajarvi but instead D Cam Barker with no picks involved.

"Acquiring a player with the playoff experience Blake Wheeler has is always a great addition," Block M said in an interview. "We think he can help our young players advance to the next level as he is obviously a winner."

On top of that the Edmonton Oilers also selected first overall in the 2014 NHL Draft making LW Ryan Tuffin the first selection of the draft.

Edmonton would go on to add three more forwards in C Aleksander Barkov, RW Jean-Sebastien Dea, and C Brett Brooks in the third, fourth, and sixth rounds respectively.

Edmonton also added D Adam Bignell in the second round, D Tommy Stipancik with their final pick in the seventh round, and goalie MacKenzie Skapski in the fifth round.

NHL Network analyst EJ Hradek suggests that Finnish centerman Aleksander Barkov could be the steal of the draft having slid into the third round.

Jets are definitely rolling, and yeah roster will be up soon. This is just a slow offseason transition cause I have to give the layout an Oilers face lift before posting.

Edmonton Adds G Gustavsson, D Engelland Via Free Agency
                      Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
                      July 14th, 2014
Edmonton addressed a big issue in net with the addition of former Maple Leafs backup goalie Jonas Gustavsson with their first signing of the free agency period. Edmonton decided Gustavsson was the right fit to battle for the starting spot over the likes of other free agent goalies such as Tomas Vokoun and Dan Ellis.

The Oilers also added Edmonton native Deryk Engelland to bolster their defensive pairings.

Edmonton attempted to sign restricted free agent defensemen Calvin de Haan of the New York Islanders and Chicago defensemen Nick Leddy but both players declined offers from the Oilers in favor of their current teams.

                        Good read as always.

The flames were busy. To bad you couldn`t snag those players, would have been great additions to your D-corps.

Are Young Oilers Ready To Step Up?

The Edmonton Oilers have a group of forwards that easily rank among the best in the NHL. The problem that has kept that talent from enjoying any success at all is youth and inexperience.

The Oilers final point total has dropped each of the last three years as the organization is heading in the wrong direction. That's why big moves were made in the offseason from top to bottom. Team Chairman Daryl Katz hired new GM Block M to turn things around. Block M wasted no time in making a move to help the team by bringing in two-time Conn Smythe winner Blake Wheeler from the two-time defending Stanley Cup Champion Winnipeg Jets.

It was also Block M's decision to retain the services of Oilers head coach Todd McLellan who was hired prior to the 2013-2014 season. McLellan personally loved the acquisiton of Wheeler.

"Wheeler is just 28, but on our team that's old," joked McLellan at a recent team practice. "He's a proven winner helping Winnipeg to two cups and will be a great influence on our young kids here. Can't wait to get the season started."

Great read as always my friend. And I love your line-up, I can see it paying dividends immediately. Good luck with the OILERS.

I've really enjoyed reading this and I can't say enough about the layout, very well done. I haven't seen many franchises where the GM takes over another team, so it's been really interesting. Good luck building up the Oil, they have a lot of good pieces in place.
