    2014-2015 Block 5 Update: 27-22-1, 6th in WC
Linus Omark and Edmonton took two from Pacific leading Anaheim before losing five games in block five.

With 50 games in the books it's still hard to find an identity for the 2014-2015 Edmonton.

At times the Oilers can find the back of the net with ease and knock off some of the best teams in the league, but they always seem to follow up a good run with a bad one.

The result is Edmonton's hopes of breaking an eight year playoff drought are on shaky ground.

Edmonton fans were feeling good after the team started 2015 with a five game win streak. The team beat Colorado before stealing back-to-back victories over Pacific division leading Anaheim and then hopes were elevated when starting goaltender Jonas Gustavsson posted back-to-back shutouts against Calgary and Chicago to extend the win streak to five.

Gustavsson's shutout streak reached 132:01 before San Jose defender Jason Demers scored to spring a 4-2 San Jose victory over Edmonton on January 16th.

Edmonton would struggle to find the win column again, losing another two games before edging Chicago in a high scoring affair. Just as with the whole season the Oilers followed an abundance of offense with a pair of performances where they couldn't find the net at all. The Oilers lost to Dallas 2-1 and then Los Angeles 2-0 to round out the block.

This leaves Edmonton in the six spot still four points ahead of eighth place Colorado but they now have Los Angeles in a position to overtake them as the Kings sit just a point behind the Oilers at the All-Star break.

It's the goaltending, I'm about to compile my record in games played as opposed to sims. These goaltenders just can't keep the puck out of the net in sims.

            Here are my results...

            25 Games Played
            20-4-1, 87 GF, 53 GA (3.48 GFA, 2.12 GAA)

            25 Games Simulated
            7-18-0, 55 GF, 77 GA (2.2 GFA, 3.08 GAA)

In my days with Buffalo I found I dominated in sims and had a little more trouble in games played. Under the same settings it's just opposite here in Edmonton.

Could possibly be the issue.A youtuber was at EA Sports community place, and boy did they tell you some useful information.

They said that the individual stats determine the simulation, so for goaltenders look for individual stats that you think that will help the team progress.

Interesting but it makes sense. Over the last 6 years with my Dunasty (well except the 1st 2 years) when I had Lehner in net the Leafs mostly win but when I sub in my back up they usually lose in reg or OT - my back ups have been hovering around 80 while Lenher has rocketed to 93.

                So this does make sense...

Those are overall ratings which sum up the individual stats. I'm talking about the glove highs, and glove lows, one of the EA Sports staff said you really need to see that for the simulation, no wonder why some teams made it and some teams couldn't.

I'm hoping they improve their simulation a lot better though because I don't like this type of simulation.

But that's pretty cool though considering at looking in individual stats so even an 82 GK can pull you off to the playoffs.

                    2014-2015 Block 6 Update: 30-29-1, 7th in WC
As Edmonton slowly slides out of the playoffs, the Oilers finally pulled the trigger and acquired Brian Elliott.
Edmonton Tries To Stop The Bleeding
                    Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
                    February 23rd, 2015

                        Enough is enough.

With the Edmonton Oilers trickling out of the playoff picture, something had to be done and after losing seven of their last ten games the Oilers GM made the move.

GM Block M called up the team with perhaps the strongest crop of goaltenders in the league, the St. Louis Blues, and acquired goaltender Brian Eliott and defender Carlo Colaiacovo in exchange for the much maligned Jonas Gustavsson, defender Taylor Chorney, a 2015 2nd round selection and a 2016 1st round selection.

Elliott has been backup to St. Louis starter Jaroslav Halak for close to five seasons now and with the emergence of goalie Jake Allen, Elliott has been seeing more time in the AHL rather than the NHL. In Edmonton he will come in as the instant starter as he is a definite upgrade over the experience level of the departed Gustavsson and the young (and struggling) Samu Perhonen.

With Gustavsson struggling Perhonen was given another start against the Buffalo Sabres on February 13th. The 21-year-old would surrender seven goals at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres and that's when Block M knew a move had to be made.

"The thought had been running through the front office for a while, but that was the nail in the coffin," stated GM Block M. "We knew right then that our situation was worse than we thought because we were in a position where we are putting guys in the net that are obviously not ready."

Now the 29-year-old Brian Elliott is expected to stop the Oilers' slide and get the team to the playoffs. Edmonton sits in seventh with 61 points as the NHL season nears March. That puts Edmonton just a point behind sixth place Anaheim and in a tie with eighth placed Phoenix.

St. Louis, Minnesota, Colorado and Detroit all remain within three points of the playoffs.

It's unbelievable that when you left Buffalo, Buffalo started doing extremely well and that's because you put the team together.

Have some vengeance on Buffalo and show them that you can win the cup with this team!

I really do wish I would have gotten another year there but is what it is.

They're actually doing things quite different than I did though. They re-signed everyone and Ryan Miller is having an incredible year...he's something like 31-15 in 46 starts. Where was that play the past three seasons, Miller!?!?! Mike Smith is backing up Miller and he is something like 10-3 in 13 starts. Al Montoya is with their AHL affiliate Rochester.

They promoted C Luke Adam to the Sabres and sent C Frans Nielsen to the AHL. They bumped Tyler Ennis to the third line, I had him playing on the second line at RW. They signed Kristian Huselius and C Cal O'Reilly in the offseason and that has bumped the likes of Scottie Upshall to the AHL as well. Nail Yakupov is also still in Rochester not developing that well, think he's around a 78 still.

Pominville has already met his best point total in the three seasons I was at the helm, 77 points, in a little over 60 games so he's on fire.

D Kyle Cumiskey, who I acquired in a trade for Andrej Sekera, is almost as valuable on the trade market as Tyler Myers.

BUT as I mentioned a few posts ago I have much better luck playing with all the skill the Oilers have. So while we get our backsides kicked in sims there isn't a team that strikes fear in me if we run into them in the playoffs. We've done quite well against Nashville and Vancouver...San Jose is a little more difficult match up for us but I don't think they'll be as tough to beat as Toronto and Winnipeg were in my days in Buffalo.

Hopefully Elliott can save this sinking ship and get us into a matchup with one of the top three seeds.

Great move my friend, I really hope it pays dividends between the pipes for you.

As I have never played a team this long (Except for my present Leaf one) or been fired (refer to point 1) its interesting to hear your thoughts on your previous team. And how a different GM at the helm, like in RLF, makes different decisions. Cool.

Hey dude, this is an amazing dynasty! I have a question, though. How did you get your HTML box scores on the bottom of each update to line up parallel to one another like that? I tried imbuing a series of tables within a much large table but they always just line up underneath each other stacked like pancakes instead of being side by side all the way down the page like yours do.

                            Keep up the awesome work!

                              Thanks for following...

You're onto the right idea, all the boxscores are in one massive table...so you have ten tables in one big table.

Ex... (had to add spaces in order for this to display in text)

                              < table>
                              < tr>< td>BOXSCORE ONE TABLE< /td>< td>BOXSCORE TWO TABLE< /td>< /tr>< tr>< td>BOXSCORE THREE TABLE< /td>< td>BOXSCORE FOUR TABLE< /td>< /tr>
                              < /table>

Copy and paste < tr>< td>BOXSCORE THREE TABLE< /td>< td>BOXSCORE FOUR TABLE< /td>< /tr> right infront of < /table> to add your third, fourth, fifth, and so on rows.

Then you want to align each pair of boxscores that sit side-by-side with a valign="top" in the < tr> tag (or each < td> tag individually).

                              < table>
                              < tr valign="top">< td>BOXSCORE ONE< /td>< td>BOXSCORE TWO< /td>< /tr>< tr valign="top">< td>BOXSCORE THREE< /td>< td>BOXSCORE FOUR< /td>< tr>
                              < /table>

Plug in each boxscore in its place and you're set.

                                2014-2015 Block 7 Update: 36-33-1, 6th in WC
Edmonton's playoff chances are looking better having won six of their past ten.

                                Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
                                March 15th, 2015

The Edmonton Oilers have been in the top eight of the Western Conference Standings for nearly the whole year, but their spot in the playoffs has been far from secure.

Now with just 12 games left Edmonton is in the sixth spot, three points ahead of eighth place St. Louis.

The Edmonton Oilers got there with a 6-4 record in block seven, just the second time all year they have posted a record better than .500 in a ten game stretch.

With new goalie Brian Elliott between the pipes the Oilers started the block 4-1 with their only blemish being a bad one as they lost to Columbus 4-1 on February 26th. The team would rebound gaining a huge win over Vancouver on March 4th stealing points from a team firmly planted in the playoffs.

Edmonton did suffer a setback as they hit the road and lost back-to-back games in blowout fashion to Ottawa and Edmonton before rebounding with one goal victories over Pittsburgh and Vancouver.

Vancouver would finally beat Edmonton as they played for the third time in ten days but goalie Brian Elliott had a good showing in the 2-1 defeat.

In the last 12 games Edmonton will play four games against teams also floating just on the edge of the playoff picture. March 25th against Colorado, March 31st against St. Louis, April 1st against Colorado and the season finale April 14th against St. Louis are all shaping up to be pivotal affairs.
