Thanks for the kind words guys. I gotta say that changing over the layout has been a pain cause I discovered you have to tell each cell of every table what font it needs to be in order to display right here on OS. I've also been playing a lot of online games and online Be A Pro games so that's also delaying updates as well, lol.

Tonight though I'm going to watch the Kings win the West and get block one finished and posted.

      2014-2015 Block 1 Update: 5-5-0, 7th in WC
Jordan Eberle sparked Edmonton to five straight wins before losing five straight.
      Hot Start, Cold Finish
      Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
      October 26th, 2014

The 2014-2015 edition of the Edmonton Oilers got off to a magical start winning their first five games.

The Oilers were fueled by a high scoring top line of Taylor Hall, Sam Gagner, and Jordan Eberle as the three totaled 11 goals after just five games. Edmonton collected wins over Calgary, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, and Vancouver to sit atop the NHL after five games.

The winning streak would come to a halting screech as Edmonton traveled to Detroit for a two-game series in the Motor City having just played days earlier. Detroit gained their revenge by giving the Oilers their first taste of defeat with a 3-2 victory on October 16th, and then gaining a dominating 4-1 win over the Oilers in the second of the series.

Detroit was Edmonton's opponent in three of their first ten games.

After leaving Detroit the losing ways continued with loses to Buffalo, Tampa Bay, and Toronto.

Clearly scoring played a big role in the winning streak turning into a losing streak. The Oilers scored just eight goals in their five losses, meanwhile they scored 22 goals in the five straight wins.

Well the initial set up was a little time consuming but it'll be downhill from here now that it's set up.

This team is almost exactly opposite of Buffalo. They have so many guys with a wicked scoring touch that I see lots of success in games I play, but we don't appear to be the same team in sims. Should be an interesting year.

            2014-2015 Block 2 Update: 10-10-0, 9th in WC
Ales Hemsky and Edmonton blasted the Islanders on November 4th.
            .500 Hockey Continues in Edmonton
            Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
            November 19th, 2014

After two massive streaks in their first ten games the Oilers would finish with the same record in their second set of games, 5-5-0.

This time though things were done a little differently as Edmonton neither won or lost more than two games in a row as the up and down start to the season now sees the Oilers at 10-10-0 as they begin to slide down the Western Conference standings.

Goaltender Jonas Gustavsson recorded his first shutout the day before Halloween against the struggling Dallas Stars as Edmonton won 1-0 with a Linus Omark goal. The following game the Oilers were shutout themselves by new Minnesota goaltender Tomas Vokoun but Edmonton would rebound on an eastern roadie outscoring the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils 9-2 over two games.

The up and down success of the team continued though with a loss in Toronto as Gustavsson dropped a decision to his former team.

The block would round out with a split against the NHL's top team at the time, Nashville, before dropping a close game to Phoenix to drop to 10-10-0.

Re: Block M's Buffalo Sabres (NHL 12)

Yay for massive updates. The only problem in Edmonton in my opinion is the goaltending, Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-hokins all are dominant players by then.

Most of the scoring is won by better scoring, and sometimes Gusttavsson comes through.

Really enjoying this! In a few years this team will be absolutely dominant. Also I really like the effort you're putting into this, it really makes it fun to follow!

Agreed, we are definitely weakest between the pipes. Really only Gustavsson and Tomas Vokoun were the only options without trading any more pieces of the team and I went with Gustavsson cause he is younger BUT I think Gustavsson could develop into a really good starter. He's pretty quick and not even 30 yet as of this point in the dynasty.

I also have high hopes in developing draft pick MacKenzie Skapski into a future star goalie.

Thanks for following! I'd say the forwards on this team are right on the door step to being dominant. Should take a few seasons for the rest of the team to catch up.

This continues to be a lot of fun to read. Gustavsson is definitely the weak link (for now) but your offense is so good that it may be able to compensate for some his missteps. How do you like your defensemen so far? Nick Schulz seems to be a part of every goal scored.

I definitely do not regret trading away Cam Barker to get Blake Wheeler at the draft cause I really like these six I have on the blue line. As you noticed Schultz has loads of assists because that top pairing of Schultz and Whitney fight right in with the skill our top three lines have. The puck is being passed around a lot in the attacking zone and as the scoreboard shows in a lot of these games, that is putting up big numbers on the scoreboard and causing problems for the opponent.

Schultz also had a scoring touch to start the season with three goals right out of the gate but that has calmed down a little.

If Gustavsson can come around OR if a good deal comes across the table to upgrade that position, even though we're in a win one/lose one phase right now I think this team can do big things. Actually like the make-up of this team better than Buffalo.

                          2014-2015 Block 3 Update: 15-15-0, 9th in WC
Edmonton's third line is getting hot and if their success continues, it could push the Oilers over .500.
Five Up, Five Down, Part Two
                          Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
                          December 10th, 2014

Edmonton has done it again. The Oilers got hot and put together five straight wins, only to negate that success and follow it with five consecutive losses.

Edmonton posted big wins over divison foes Calgary and Vancouver before blowing away Los Angeles in back to back games, and then downed St. Louis to sit at 15-10-0.

Just as division foes started the win streak, they also ended it and started the losing streak as Edmonton hit the road and lost to Minnesota and Vancouver before hosting three games all against Southeast division opponents and losing all three.

It was a bad stretch for Edmonton goaltenders as backup Samu Perhonen got his first start of the year against Minnesota and lost 5-1. Later in the week starter Jonas Gustavsson allowed six goals in a 7-5 shootout loss to the Florida Panthers.

A positive sign that could be the difference between Edmonton rising above or sinking below the .500 mark they seem to be stuck at is scoring from the third and fourth lines. Oilers third liners Linus Omark, Shawn Horcoff, and Ales Hemsky scored eight goals in the past ten games. Fourth liners Ben Eager, Nick Tarnasky, and Ryan Jones scored six goals in the last ten.

The Oilers welcome in the new year as a playoff team after an impressive 7-2-1 stretch that has Edmonton sitting fifth in the West.

Edmonton finally got out of their .500 hockey rut by scoring, and scoring a lot.

After falling to 15-16-0 after being shutout by one of the hottest goalies in the league at the moment, Jonas Hiller of Anaheim, the Oilers grabbed points in seven striaght games by scoring 25 goals in thoe seven games.

The scoring stopped on the final game of the 2014 calender year as Edmonton was shut out at the hands of the Antti Niemi and San Jose before drubbing the Colorado Avalanche for the second time in two and a half weeks.

After being chased out of the game in his first start of the year, Samu Perhonen got another shot and delivered helping the Oilers to three straight wins. The improved play of Perhonen and starter Jonas Gustavsson has expectations rising on the plains of Edmonton.
