Unlikely Hero Ryan Jones Evens Series
April 18th, 2015
Nashville, TennesseeTo win in the playoffs you need unlikely guys to come up with big goals in order to win.
After a scoreless first period Ryan Jones did just that taking a bad Pekka Rinne pass and sending it to the back of net as Edmonton scored the first goal for the second straight game.
As the game appeared to be heading to the third period 1-0 Linus Omark let a shot rip that with just 14 seconds left in the period that surprised Rinne and gave Edmonton a 2-0 lead after two periods.
Nashville kept it a game as they were first to score in the third period on a huge blast by Sergei Kostitsyn but Ryan Jones would strike again to put the game in the books in favor of Edmonton. Jones would receive a nice pass between two defenders as he and Jordan Eberle enterted the zone. Jones would take the puck from skate to stick and bank the shot in off the inside of Rinne's leg and into the back of the net as Edmonton scored on the first powerplay they have received in the two games against Nashville.
The Predators would ramp up the intensity in the last ten minutes but would fail to put another goal on the board as the series is now even and headed to Edmonton for game three.

Edmonton Stuns Nashville in Game Three; Takes 2-1 Series Lead
April 20th, 2015
Edmonton, Alberta, CanadaIt may have appeared that Edmonton was one and done heading into their series with Nashville but after three games the Oilers have shown they can go head-to-head with the top seed and do more than hold their own.
Edmonton grabbed a 2-1 series lead over the Predators after digging deep and getting another boost by a not so likely scorer.
Nashville found the back of the net before Edmonton for the first time this series after a Colin Wilson blast beat G Brian Elliott midway through the second period.
In the third period it looked as if things were all even when a Sam Gagner collected a rebound and put a quick turnaround shot past Pekka Rinne but the refs called the goal off due to a bump from Gagner and sent the top line center to the box issuing a big blow to Edmonton.
But the Hockey Gods would right the wrong committed upon the Oilers after Edmonton forced a faceoff in Nashville's zone on the penalty kill. Game two hero Ryan Jones would gather the puck after center Shawn Horcoff tied up his man off the face off. Jones would pass back to the blue line where Ladislav Smid would push it over to Deryk Engelland. Engelland stepped up and blasted the equalizer past Rinne sending everyone at Rexall Place to their feet.
Later in the third period a similar situation developed with both teams at even strength. This time Jordan Eberle would gather puck off the face off in Nashville's zone and slide it over to LW Taylor Hall, already in the slot Hall turned towards the net and with a little kick of his right leg wristed the go ahead goal over the right shoulder of Pekka Rinne.
The Hall goal, his second of series, was the last goal of the game as Edmonton held on to claim a 2-1 series lead over the heavily favored Nashville Predators.

Rinne Blanks Oilers; Series Tied 2-2
April 22nd, 2015
Edmonton, Alberta, CanadaNeeding to respond to the underdog Oilers taking a series lead, Pekka Rinne and Nashville did in a big way by blanking Edmonton 2-0 to even the series.
In another defensive game the first goal did not come until the second period when Predators winger Andrei Kostitsyn snuck down the slot and blasted a one timer past Brian Elliott for the 1-0 lead. Just as in the game prior the Oilers had another goal called back due to goaltender interference that would have tied the game.
The score would remain 1-0 until the end of the game when Andrei Kostitsyn deked around defender Ryan Whitney and dumped the puck into an empty net for his second score of the game.
Despite Kostitsyn's two goals the star of the game was Pekka Rinne who stopped 28 shots, many of them robbing sure goals.
The series is now returning Nashville for game five.

Another Rinne Shutout Puts Edmonton On Brink
April 24th, 2015
Nashville, TennesseeNashville is one win away from ending Edmonton's season after another stellar performance from Pekka Rinne that allowed Nashville to grab their second 2-0 victory in as many games to take a 3-2 series lead.
Rinne stopped 26 shots as Edmonton's star studded forwards went another game without producing.
Between the Oilers' top six forwards of Taylor Hall, Sam Gagner, Jordan Eberle, Magnus Paajarvi, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Blaker Wheeler only Hall has scored against the Predators to this point.
Jordan Eberle recorded five shots in game five but failed to score extending his goal-less drought to 35 days without finding the back of the net.
For Nashville, they found the net and did so quickly scoring two goals in a matter of five minutes in the middle of the second period. Patrick Hornqvist scored his first of the playoffs and nearly five minutes later Sergei Kostitsyn placed a nice shot that Brian Elliott got a piece of but not enough as Nashville went up 2-0.
Despite the losses, Edmonton goalie Brian Elliott is playing very well in net as well. He is just not getting the same goal support as Rinne. Elliott matched Rinne and stopped 26 shots in game five.
Edmonton tries to keep their season alive as the series returns to Edmonton for game six.

Goal Frenzy Keeps Edmonton Oilers Alive
April 26th, 2015
Edmonton, Alberta, CanadaThe Edmonton Oilers were shutout by Pekka Rinne for 160 minutes and 25 seconds, and somehow still had a chance to win the series after a flurry of late second period goals as Edmonton finally beat Rinne and did so often.
Mike Willis started the frenzy with a snap shot in the slot with 6:33 left in the second period. This goal tied the game after Matt Read put Nashville ahead less than a minute earlier.
A Theo Peckham blast four minutes would give Edmonton their first lead since game three and then a Taylor Hall rebound put back extended the lead to 3-1 with under a minute left in the second period. It would get even better as Edmonton went to break up 4-1 after Sam Gagner broke his scoring slump and got his first of the playoffs.
Shea Weber would be the lone goal scorer in the third period as Edmonton forced a game seven with a 4-2 victory.
Oilers goalie Brian Elliott continued the streak of good performances in this series with 30 saves in the victory.

Re: Block M's Buffalo Sabres (NHL 12)
Oilers Come From Two Down To Eliminate Top Seed Predators
April 28th, 2015
Nashville, TennesseeIt seems as though Edmonton has been playing do or die hockey for weeks now but tonights game seven had an added scenario that made things even tougher for the Oilers.
Craig Smith scored late in the first period and then Martin Erat deflected a shot early in the second past Brian Elliott for 2-0 lead in the crucial clash. Perhaps the Oilers showed a sign that the young kids that make up the roster are maturing into leaders with their performance the rest of the game.
Five minutes after falling back the hero of the series so far for Edmonton put the squad within a goal as Taylor Hall netted his fourth of the series but the Oilers would still trail heading to the third period.
In the third period, just as it had happened in the second period of game six, the Oilers hit goal frenzy scoring two goals in 28 seconds to put the Predators on their heels. Ryan Whitney scored the goal to tie then after Edmonton took the face off Linus Omark would let a shot rip from just inside the blue line that got past Rinne as the Oilers all of the sudden held a 3-2 lead.
With 28 seconds left it would Ryan Nugent-Hopkins taking a puck that trickled out of the grasp of Pekka Rinne and blasting it into the back of the net to put the nail in the coffin as the eight seed in the Western Conference stunned the first seed for the fourth straight year.

Burrows & Schneider Give Canucks Series Lead
May 1st, 2015
Vancouver, British Columbia, CanadaGame one between Northwest Division foes Vancouver and Edmonton was tightly contested game, but the Canucks had Alexandre Burrows and Cory Schneider, Edmonton did not.
Burrows accounted for both Vancouver goals and Cory Schneider stopped a whopping 43 shots as the Canucks took game one.
While Edmonton couldn't figure out how to solve Schneider, only 19 shots were thrown at Edmonton goalie Brian Elliott and two went in.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was the lone scorer for the Oilers when his second period wrist shot evened the game at 1-1. A little over three minutes later Burrows' second strike put Vancouver up for good.
It appeared Edmonton had beat Schneider a second time when a Linus Omark shot got past the goalie and trickled on the goal line. Some say it was in but the refs did not as the Canucks held on for the game one victory.

Death By Burrows; Winger Puts Canucks Up 2-0
May 3rd, 2015
Vancouver, British Columbia, CanadaRyan Nugent-Hopkins scored his second of the series to put the Oilers ahead in the first period but the lead was short lived. Several minutes later David Booth scored his first of the post season to knot the game at 1-1, then we waited.
Vancouver and Edmonton fought toe-to-toe for the next period and a half as the Oilers desperately tried to avoid an 0-2 hole. There were no goals but plenty of big hits as the familiarity of these two teams escalated tension.
No goals until game one star Alexandre Burrows had his say that is. Burrows put a one-timer past Edmonton goalie Brian Elliott for what would turn out to be his second game winner of the series.
What cemented his game winner was his fourth goal of the series as Burrows buried an empy net goal with just three ticks of the clock left to extend the Vancouver win to 3-1.
The Canucks claimed another victory with very few shots, the team had just 17 shots in game two.
