![]() DETROIT, MI - It looked as if it were over. The Winnipeg Jets, who went through Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay to reach the Stanley Cup Finals were going to have their remarkable run end in a sweep as they got down three games to the Detroit Red Wings. The Game 3 Detroit victory was their eighth straight win in these playoffs, it was also their last. The Winnipeg Jets rattled off four straight wins to steal the Stanley Cup right out of the grasp of the Detroit Red Wings and turn the hockey world upside down. For the second year the team that captured the Presidents Trophy was bounced in the first round. The Los Angeles Kings upset Vancouver in seven games before losing to eventual Western Conference Champion Detroit in the second round. Winnipeg's Blaker Wheeler won the Conn Smythe as the player most valuable to his team during the playoffs. Winnipeg won the Stanley Cup despite never holding home ice advantage at any point in the playoffs.

Re: Block M's Buffalo Sabres (NHL 12)
If Roy re-signs we got all our top six forwards back having all scored at least 20 goals in 2012-2013, with another year of growth and experience next year should be explosive offensively.Comment

2013 Free Agency Period: Sabres Quiet
BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo Sabres do not exactly have a lot of cap space laying around.
In fact, not only did that fact result in Buffalo not signing any free agents but it also resulted in the Sabres losing some of their talent.
Buffalo tendered D Mike Weber and when the Dallas Stars sent in an offer sheet of 1.810M and two years the Sabres couldnt match and accepted the compensation of Dallas' 2014 2nd round pick.
C Derek Roy's contract was up and the longtime Sabre refused to sign anything but a one year deal meaning Roy, Thomas Vanek, Jason Pominville, Mike Cammalleri, and Ryan Miller are all now in the final year of their current contract.Released Team Players C Matt Ellis, LW Michael Ryan, D Alex Biega, G David Leggio and C Daniel Catenacci. Re: Block M's Buffalo Sabres (NHL 12)
The Final Go Around
BUFFALO, NY - Could the 2013-2014 NHL season be the end of an era in Buffalo?
The list of Sabres in the final year of their contract is almost astounding and with many of them being in the prime of their career they'll be asking for more money, not less.
That poses a problem as the Sabres have little cap space so bringing back everyone will be a very difficult task.
Even answering whos task it will be to re-sign everyone is not easy to answer. Current GM Block M is also in the final year of his contract and after two seasons labeled a failure by Sabres owner Terry Pegula, it is far from certain he will be back.
C Derek Roy, LW Thomas Vanek, RW Jason Pominville, LW Mike Cammalleri, LW Nathan Gerbe and G Ryan Miller will all be UFA's at seasons end meaning change is certain in Buffalo. Will Buffalo part ways with part of its core or will other players be dealt in an attempt to re-sign everyone? Only time will tell.
Sometimes being right up against the cap limit means bad moves were made and players were over paid. Not so in Buffalo. The Sabres boast one of the most powerful offensive teams in the NHL with six 20 goal scorers returning.
The Sabres also made the addition of C Frans Nielsen who will bring a speed and scoring upgrade over C Cody McCormick. LW Nathan Gerbe will be line mates with Nielsen and RW Drew Stafford as he makes his climb up the depth chart.
After trading away D Jordan Leopold and losing D Mike Weber to free agency the Sabres third blue line pairing will be new but far from inexperienced.
Dennis Persson scored two goals last year in limited play being the first call up to replace injured Sabres. Joining him is Alexander Sulzer who did not see any time with the Sabres last year but bounced between Buffalo and Rochester for much of the 2011-2012 season.Left Wing

Re: Block M's Buffalo Sabres (NHL 12)
2013-2014 Block 1 Update: 8-1-1, 1st in EC
Robyn Regeher and the Sabres are putting the NHL on notice with stellar play early on.
Sabres Start Year in Dominant Fashion
BUFFALO, NY - In 2013-2014 the Buffalo Sabres cant ask, "Is this the year?"
2013-2014 has to be the year. A successful year could save jobs and tell free agents Buffalo can be a Stanley Cup contender.
To begin the year the Sabres seem to realize that urgency and are playing like it. An 8-1-1 start out of the gates has the Sabres atop the NHL with the nearest team three points back. Fueling the run is second line right winger Tyler Ennis who is off to a great start with eight goals in ten games.
Ennis still is off the NHL goal lead though. Montreal's Brian Gionta has a remarkable 10 goals through just nine games for the Canadiens and Detroit's Pavel Datsyuk serves as a buffer between Gionta and Ennis with nine goals.
