Re: Block M's Buffalo Sabres (NHL 12)

NHL Entry Draft 2012: Sabres Eyeing Harvey, Yakupov and Aberg
Buffalo, NY - The Buffalo Sabres may be the most powerful team in late June, even more so than the Stanley Cup Champion.

The reason being Buffalo not only holds two first round picks after getting Nashville's in exchange for C Paul Gaustad but possibly two top ten selections.

The pick received from Nashville is currently positioned to be the fifth overall selection and with how compact the Eastern Conference is if the Sabres do not make the playoffs their own pick could be a top ten selection.

This means Buffalo could possibly land two future superstar type players and three players already have the eye of the entire NHL, but Buffalo may be able to get two of them.

    Current League: OHL
    Current Team: Sarnia
    Projection: Top 10

    Pontus Aberg
    Forward

      Block 7 Update: 34-31-5, 10th in EC
The Sabres beat Roberto Luongo, but not much else on their western road trip.
Crunch Time Nears For Buffalo Sabres
BUFFALO, NY - Just 12 games are left and after an unsuccessful road trip the Sabres are back on the outside of the playoff picture.

Buffalo hit the road for five games and won just a single game as they compiled a 1-4 record after loses to the New York Rangers, Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, and Winnipeg Jets.

Overall in the ten game stretch Buffalo went just 4-6 and sit four points behind 8th seeded Tampa Bay.

Also during the last ten games Derek Roy used a hat-trick against Montreal on March 12th to pull even with Thomas Vanek as both players now have 25 goals scored through 70 games. It's easy to see both of these men will determine whether Buffalo makes the playoffs or not.

            Block 8 Update: 40-35-5, 8th in EC
Tyler Myers is the third Sabre to record a hat trick this year.
Tied for 8th, Two Games Left
BUFFALO, NY - Just two games are left in Buffalo's regular season and they sit tied with Tampa Bay for the final spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Sabres enjoyed a five game winning streak to put them as high as seventh in the standings on March 25th but back to back losses to Toronto, who has dominated Buffalo this year, allowed the slumping Tampa Bay Lightning to pull back even with Buffalo.

The bad news is Tampa Bay has a game-in-hand on Buffalo making the last few days of this 2011-2012 season a nerve racking and intense time in Western New York.

              Lightning Lose Game In Hand
TAMPA, FL - A lot of people in Buffalo, New York had interest in a hockey game tonight even though their Sabres were not playing.

The result of the game was just as good as a Sabres victory though as the Montreal Canadiens defeated Tampa Bay 5-3 down in Florida.

That result keeps Buffalo ahead of Tampa Bay for the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference as now both teams have just two games to play. The Sabres hold the tie-breaker over the Lightning if the two were to finish with equal points.

Sabres Blow Three Goal Lead; Playoff Hopes Remain Alive
PHILADELPHIA, PA - So close they could taste it.

Jason Pominville had two goals sandwiched in between a Ville Leino deflection and the Buffalo Sabres led 3-0.

Then Patrick Kaleta broke a stick with a slash and hit the sin bin, Philadelphia scored on their first shot of the power player and all of the sudden had the momentum.

Scottie Hartnell would make it 3-2 just a minute later and a blowout was a hotly contested game.

In the third period with their season hanging in the balance the Sabres needed to respond but they did not. Claude Giroux did. Giroux tied the game then gave Philadelphia the lead with six minutes left in the game. Giroux would find an empty net to crush the hopes of the Buffalo Sabres and complete a natural hat trick all in a single period.

The only bright spot on the night was the news that the Tampa Bay Lightning lost as well, dropping a 3-0 decision to Toronto, keeping the playoff hopes for Buffalo alive.

Win and You're In Scenario For Buffalo
BUFFALO, NY - After blowing a three goal lead against Philadelphia and after 80 other games all Buffalo has to do is beat the Boston Bruins to make the 2011-2012 playoffs.

With Carolina winning to advance three points ahead of Buffalo it's the eight spot or nothing for Buffalo, as well as four other teams.

Tampa Bay, Ottawa, Philadelphia and the New York Rangers are all tied with Buffalo with 85 points yet Buffalo holds the tie breaker of regulation or overtime victories over the rest of the pack meaning if Buffalo wins they are in. They can also advance to the playoffs with a loss if the other four teams lose but the odds are long.

Here are the matchups on the final day or the regular season for all teams involved:

That's pretty intense it comes down to the last day of the regular season. I love how Ottawa has been surging up the standings, making a playoff push. Start in Feb in 14 and now sit in 10th.

Excellent dynasty so far Block M. Even if it's a Sabres dynasty...LOL

Deflating Deflection; Boston Ends Buffalos Season
BOSTON, MA - Of course the Sabres didn't know it at the time but if they had won any of their last four games they'd be heading to Washington right now to face the President Trophy winning Capitals.

Instead they are heading back to Buffalo to clean out their lockers.

Buffalo and Boston were tied 2-2 with under five minutes left when Bruin Beniot Pouliot brought the puck into the Sabres end with just Robyn Regehr in between him and goaltender Ryan Miller. Pouliot let a shot rip and the blast would find Regehr's stick, deflect straight towards the middle of the net, and through Ryan Miller's five hole.

Having heard the news of Tampa Bay's victory that had just gone final a half hour earlier, Pouliot's goal was no doubt the final blow to their season despite four minutes remaining on the clock.

The Bruins controlled much of the possession the rest of the game and Tim Thomas would come up with a huge stop on Tyler Ennis with just over thirty seconds left to send the Sabres into an off season where the entire organization will be looking for answers after missing the playoffs for the third time in five years.
