VIPERS ATOP ATLANTIC DIVISION AFTER FIRST MONTH

    Detroitnews.com - November 1st, 2012 - By Vic Venom

Auburn Hills, Mi - At the beginning of every month going forward we will take a look around the league and bring you up to date on the NHL Standings.

We start with the Eastern Conference where the Detroit Vipers have come back from going 0 - 2 - 1 after the first three games to winning the last 5 out of 6 games to finish 5 - 3 - 1 and leading the Atlantic Division by one point over Philadelphia, New York & Pittsburgh.

Detroit is third overall in the East behind the Washington Capitals who are 7 - 3 - 0 and the Ottawa Senators who are 6 - 3 - 0. Maybe one of the bigger surprises in the east is of last years Eastern Conference Champion New Jersey Devils who are just 1 - 2 - 4 on the season and sitting in last place in the Atlantic Division.

Over in the Western Conference, The defending Stanley Cup Champions Los Angeles Kings are off a great start at 7 - 1 - 0 to lead the Pacific Division by four points over the San Jose Sharks but they are not the best team in the west.

The best in the west right now are the Calgary Flames who are 7 - 0 - 1. Most teams can only dream their only loss in a month being in regulation but to go a whole month gaining a point in every game is a feat in and of itself.

Over in the Central Division, The Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings are deadlocked in a tie for first place in the division. Here is a look at the full standings

VIPERS DROP TOUGH ONE IN CAROLINA 2 - 1

        Detroitnews.com - November 2nd, 2012 - By Vic Venom

Raleigh, NC - Eric Staal scored the game winning goal at the 4:51 mark of the third period to give the Hurricanes a 2 - 1 win over the Detroit Vipers on the road tonight.

Carolina opened the scoring in the first period when Bobby Sanguinetti scored his first of the season at 14:07 of the first period to give Carolina a 1 - 0 lead after the first period.

Detroit rebounded like they seem to have done all season long so far with a power play goal when Matt Moulson scored his forth of the season from Boyes and Barker to tie the game up at 1 - 1 heading into the third period.

Carolina though took little time in the third to regain the lead when Eric Staal scored his third of the season from McBain and Jokinen to give Carolina a 2 - 1 lead early in the third and hold on to win by that score.

Detroit is back home tomorrow night at the Palace of Auburn Hills to face off with the Dallas Stars.

Alright boys, Quick update for ya. I am going to go back to reporting by the month instead of game by game during the season. Make the flow of the franchise go quicker. I will still handle day to day operations of the team and if I do make a trade for someone or have a major injury I will report on it before the monthly recap. I did this when the Viper franchise 2 years ago and played out full seasons so I am going back to what works for me.

I still will be playing the playoff games and preseason game just doing game by game sim and not real time sim.

VIPERS, RANGERS INVOLVED IN TRADE AGAIN

                  detroitnews.com - November 22nd, 2012 - By Vic Venom

Auburn Hills, Mi - The Detroit Vipers and New York Rangers have made another trade that may feel the Vipers have come out on top for in the long run.

The Vipers have sent defensemen Travis Hamonic to the Rangers in exchange for Left Wing Chris Kreider and a 2013 second round draft pick. The Vipers have been looking for some help at the wing position with some of the injuries that have happened so far this season.

"Kreider is a great prospect and someone who is going to do a great job on this team." said GM Rick Dudley.

Kreider will join the team in time for start on the third like with Bailey and Joensuu when the Vipers take on the St. Louis Blues on Friday Night, November 23 in St. Louis.

VIPERS TRADE DRAFT PICKS WITH FLAMES

                    detroitnews.com - November 26th, 2012 - By Vic Venom

Auburn Hills, Mi - The Detroit Vipers today announced that they had accepted a trade offer from the Calgary Flames that sees Detroit send an unsigned rookie and two extra draft picks not needed to Calgary for their 2013 first round pick in next year's draft.

This deal replaces the first round pick lost in the trade made earlier this season when they trade for John Moore from Columbus.

"We had the extra draft picks from some of the trades made earlier this season that we made known were giveaways if needed. I knew at some point we would be able to regain that first round pick back." Said GM Rick Dudley.

This deal is the second deal the Vipers have made in four days and shows a possible glimps of things to come.

VIPERS BOUNCE BACK FROM ROUGH START,
                      SIT FOURTH IN ATLANTIC DIVISION

                      Detroitnews.com - December 1st, 2012 - By Vic Venom

Auburn Hills, Mi - Two months of the NHL season are now in the books and the Vipers have a bit of a struggle to get back into the thick of things.

Detroit would start the month of November with a six game losing streak losing to Carolina (2 - 1), Dallas (6 - 1), Los Angeles (5 - 2), Anaheim (3 - 1), San Jose (4 - 1), and finally New York (1 - 0). Head coach Jack Capuano got with his coaches to bring in a new plan and it helped out.

The Vipers turned things around by winning 5 of the last 7 games in the month including a four game winning streak against Nashville (3 - 1), New Jersey (7 - 3), Boston (4 - 3), & St. Louis (4 - 3)

The Washington Capitals still lead the Eastern Conference with 32 points overall followed by the New York Rangers with 30 points and the Boston Bruins with 29 points.

Over in the West, Los Angeles are still the Kings of the conference. The Kings lead the conference standings with 33 points followed by second place Calgary Flames with 31 points. The Chicago Blackhawks sit third overall in the conference with 30 points.

Someone better check the oil pressure in Edmonton as the sit all alone in the basement as the worst team in the league at just 12 points in 2 months. Here is a full look at the standings...

DETROIT & WASHINGTON SWAP MINOR LEAGUE PROSPECTS

                          detroitnews.com - December 31st, 2012 - By Vic Venom

Auburn Hills, Mi - The Detroit Vipers and Washington Capitals have proven that a trade can happen on any day of the year, even if it's the final day of the year.

Detroit has sent defensemen Marc Cantin from Bridgeport to the Washington Capitals for Goaltender Philipp Grabauer. Grabauer has a record of 7 - 7 so far this season with a 2.78 GAA in the 17 games he has played in this season.

"Nilsson is doing a great job as the starting goaltender down in Bridgeport and more then likely will be headed to the main roster next season but we new that filling the void would be tough and this trade made things much easier for us." said Rick Dudley.

Grabauer will join the team and dress in the backup roll to Nilsson for Bridgeport's next game against the Wilkes/Barre-Scranton Penguins on New Year's Eve night.

                            DETROIT PLAYS STRONG IN DECEMBER
                            STILL FOURTH OVERALL IN ATLANTIC

                            detroitnews.com - January 1st, 2013 - By Vic Venom

Auburn Hills, Mi - Happy New Year and for the Detroit Vipers they finished off the year 2012 on high note. Detroit is 7 - 3 - 0 in their last 10 games and although they still sit in fourth place in the Atlantic they are now just three points out of first place in the division.

Detroit stumbled out of the game in December with a loss to the Phoenix Coyotes 4 - 3 at home but rebounded to the tune of a three game winning streak with wins over the New York Rangers (2 - 1), Washington Capitals (4 - 3) & The Philadelphia Flyers 4 - 1.

Detroit would stumble again with a two game losing streak losing to Philadelphia (2 - 1) & Chicago (3 - 2). Detroit would return back to their winning ways with a win over the Winnipeg Jets but would lose Nabokov for a week due to injury. Pascal Leclaire stepped up with back to back wins in Nabokov absents with wins over Minnesota (5 - 3) and Anaheim (2 - 0).

The home state rivalry game though would not go the Vipers way as they would lose to the Red Wings at the JLA 3 - 2 but take a crutial game from Pittsburgh two nights later 3 - 1. Nabokov would return to net on the 27th, a Day after the Vipers were shut out by New Jersey 3 - 0 to go on a three game winning streak to finish the year off with wins over Washington (4 - 2), Pittsburgh (4 - 3) and gain revenge on the Devils (4 - 1).

The East is a whole new conference now after December with Buffalo and Florida tied atop the standings with 48 points each followed by the New York Rangers with 46 points. Detroit ranks eighth overall in the conference.

Over the West, December tossed a huge monkey wrench into things as the Calgary Flames now hold down the top spot with 49 points followed by the L.A. Kings with 46 points who are now tied with the Nashville Predators who also have 46 points on the season.

Wanna know what a difference changer December was? Florida going in was eight points back of first place Washington on December 1st and now hold an eight point lead over Washington while Nashville was six points back of Chicago on December 1st and now hold just a 1 point lead over the Blackhawks for first. Here is a look at the full standings....

Auburn Hills, Mi - The Palace of Auburn Hills has become a buzz with the news that the St. Louis Blues have sent star right winger T.J. Oshie to the Detroit Vipers in a deal that was approved by the league earlier today.

Detroit aquired the 26 year old right winger from St. Louis along with right winger BJ Crombeen in exchange for Detroit's 2nd round picks (Detroit's & Washington) in the 2014 NHL entry draft and minor league defensemen Aaron Ness.

"This is one of those type of deals that just catches you off guard. When St. Louis called us up and offered a deal for Oshie, they had put a goalie with him and we didn't need the goaltender but knew we could use T.J. (Oshie) in the line up so we asked for another winger and they agreed to send Crombeen as well. I believe this really gives us a solid chance at the playoffs now." Said GM Rick Dudley.

To work T.J. Oshie into the main line up the Detroit Vipers had to make some roster moves as well. They sent back up goaltender Kevin Poulin and left winger Chris Kreider down to Bridgeport to make room for Oshie and Crombeen. Both men will be in the line up when the Vipers face off with the New Jersey Devils on January 31st.
