VIPERS LOOK REVAMPED FOR 2013 - 2014 SEASON!!
            NABOKOV, JURCINA AMONG 8 RELEASED.

            detroitnews.com - September 1st, 2013 - By Vic Venom

Auburn Hills, Mi - As the Detroit Vipers gear up for the second season in the National Hockey League they come in with a new look to the line up as the off-season brought some surprising changes to the team for the new season.

We start in net where both Pascal LeClaire and Evgani Nabokov were looking for a new contract and only LeClaire was the one to get one. Nabokov was released from the Vipers who were carrying five goaltenders on the team.

The Vipers also released mainstays Matt Martin & Milan Jurcina as well. "We were exposed for how slow our defense was in the first round and how baddly our 3rd and 4th lines played so changes had to be made to reflect that we are serious about making it back again net season." said GM Rick Dudley.

The others on the list were newly acquired Nathan Guenin, Jay Leach, Jon Landry, Colin McDonald & Blair Riley.

With all the releases from the team you would think that Detroit would have to rely heavily on the free agent market but going into the free agent signing period the Detroit Vipers only needed to sign three defensemen to make sure they had a good depth a that position.

            Detroit was able to resign Corey Perry (4yrs - $8.700M), T.J. Oshie (3yrs - $4.475M), Lubomir Visnovsky (2yrs - $3.645M), Mark Streit (3yrs - $4.400M), Pascal LeClaire (1yrs - $1.755M), Kevin Poulin (2yrs - $0.755M) among others on the AHL roster.

            Detroit signed from free agency three defensemen. Tom Poti (3yrs - 1.900M), Chris Campoli (3yrs - $2.200M), & Matt Gilroy (2yrs - $1.900M).

"You know your doing your job right when you only have to sign three players from free agency and after all your team signing you are still around $9.000 million in cap space left for the upcoming season." said owner Tom Gores.

Detroit now get's ready for season two at the palace that starts with the preseason which fires up on Friday, September 20th at the Palace when they face off with the Pittsburgh Penguins at 7:30pm.

Re: Welcome To The Snake Pit!!

Few house rule changes for season two. First I will only play in the playoff. I will just sim preseason and regular season games. Secondly I will do a team stats update at the All Star Break and at the end of the season.

Overall I was glad to be out of the first round of the playoffs cause while I want to make the playoffs I want it to be a real struggle to get to the cup finals. Granted I wish they would have played alittle bit better but it did show me who could stay and who could go and where I needed the improvement going into year two. I am playing this dynasty on hardcore sliders with a few tweeks to it. Let's see if I can make it further in next seasons playoff as long as I make them.

Did you have a good draft or is it not worth mentioning? Good off season with clear goals for next season. Nice write up.

                      VIPERS LOOK GOOD IN PRESEASON.
LeClaire, Poulin shine in net, set for regular season.

                      detroitvipers.com - September 30th, 2013 - By Vic Venom

Auburn Hills, Mi - The Detroit Vipers are now getting ready to start their second campaign in the NHL after finishing up the preseason last night in New Jersey. Detroit made it known in the offseason that Pascal LeClaire would be the starting goaltender for the team with Kevin Poulin backing him up but would mess with the line to see how the would work together.

Game one of the preseason saw Detroit welcome in the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Palace of Auburn Hills. Pittsburgh held the lead for most of the game but saw Detroit come back late and tie the game sending it to overtime. Pittsburgh was able to net the game winning in overtime though winning 5 - 4.

Game two saw the New York Rangers come to town to face off with Detroit and the Vipers let their offense do the talking for them. Detroit was on target for the opening faceoff and rolled by the Rangers 6 - 1.

Game three saw Detroit hit the road against the Philadelphia Flyers and saw Kevin Poulin get his first start for the team and he did not disappoint. Poulin kept Detroit in the lead the whole game and Detroit was able to skate out Philadelphia with a 3 - 2 win.

Game four of the preseason had Detroit stopping in New Jersey to face off with the Devils. While New Jersey was not one of the best teams last season, they had an impressive draft and good free agency signing period that gave them hope. They used their muscle on this night to skate past the Vipers 5 - 2.

Detroit now gets set for the opening night of the 2013 - 2014 regular season which they open up at home against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday Night, October 5th at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Auburn Hills, Mi - Coming into the season many wondered if the new look Vipers would be able to acheive what they were able to pull off in the first season. The Detroit Vipers finished October with a francise best 10 - 2 - 2 mark to the start the season and find themselfs in second place overall in the division behind the surprising New Jersey Devils who are 13 - 4 - 0 and are the top team in the East.

Michael Grabner leads the team in scoring with 12 goals so far this season, 8 of those on the power play. Assistant Captain John Tavares leads in assists with 19 and points with 23. T.J. Oshie leads the team in +/- with a +9 right now.

                              VIPERS REMAIN SECOND AFTER NOVEMBER.
Injuries a big issue for Vipers heading forward.

                              detroitvipers.com - December 1st, 2013 - By Vic Venom

Auburn Hills, Mi - The month of December should be one to see how strong this team truely is after what happened in the month of November.

While Detroit was able to go 8 - 5 - 1 in the month of November it was the key injuries to the team that made that winning record in the month something easy to look at. Detroit has lost the services of both Michael Grabner and Mark Streit for the next 9 weeks due to injury.

Grabner who leads the team in scoring is a major reason the team has the record it has outside of the goaltending. Streit is the leader in the locker room and on the blue line as well with Lubomir Visnovsky.

Detroit has yet to catch up with the New Jersey Devils who are showing what happens when you have a strong off season. The Devils are 22 - 7 - 0 and are the number one team in the East.

Meanwhile in the Southeast, The Florida Panthers have taken over first place from the Tampa Bay Lightning by just one point. Here are the full standings for the Eastern Conference...

Over in the Western Conference, The Vancouver Canucks have taken over the top spot in the conference with 35 points. They also lead the Northwest division over the Minnesota Wild by two points right now.

The bigger surprise is the fall of the Kings and the rise of the Ducks. Anaheim is now in first place in the Pacific Division. Anaheim last month was 7 points out of first place and now leads L.A. by just one point. San Jose has fallen to third just two points back of Anaheim.

The St.Louis Blues now lead the Central Division after the Red Wings collasped and fell to fourth in the division standings. The Blues lead the Blackhawks by six points right now in the central. Here is a look at the Western Conference Standings...
