Leafs Squeak Past Avs in Shootout
Lupul Nets Shootout Winner, Leafs Remain Unbeaten

The Toronto Maple Leafs managed to keep up their scorching hot start to the season, beating the Colorado Avalanche 5-4 in a shootout.

Joffrey Lupul netted the game winner past Jean-Sebastien Gigure, who made 33 saves on 37 shots.

Colorado, who was also undefeated entering the game, got goals from Steve Downie, Nick Holden, Paul Stastny and P.A. Parenteau, but the Leafs countered all night, with goals from Jay McClement and Dion Phaneuf, in addition to two off the stick of Mason Raymond.

Jonathan Bernier picked up his fourth win of the season, making 29 saves on 33 shots, just enough to give his Maple Leafs the win.

Cullen Scores Twice as Preds Double Up on Leafs

The Nashville Predators put the Maple Leafs' season opening win streak to a grinding halt at four games.

Matt Cullen scored twice for the Predators, who picked up their second win of the season by downing the Toronto Maple Leafs by a score of 6-3. Pekka Rinne made 41 saves on 44 shots as the Leafs struggled to keep up with the Predators all night long.

Joffrey Lupul, Nazem Kadri and Jake Gardiner all scored for the Maple Leafs, who fell to 4-1-0 in their first loss of the season.
