SENS LIGHT UP THE B'S
October 18th, 2022


The Senators traveled to Boston to take on the Bruins in their Home Opener. The Bruins having won the Presidents Trophy last year, hoped to pick up where they had left off.

Things would not go there way however, as the B's got into penalty trouble early in the first. On a 5-3 Powerplay Punnenovs would beat Rask with a One-Timer, putting the Sens up by one. Punnenovs would get another, after laying out Pasta, he would go hard to the net and deflect a Tierney snapshot for his second.

With the score 3-1 for the Sens, Wellmore playing on a line with Brown and Formenton would take a feed and roof a backhander past Rask. The goals would keep coming, this time Ottawa going to work on the Powerplay, Wellmore would blast a one-timer past Rask, off a nice feed from White.

Halak would start in net for the third period with the score 5-1. Both teams would trade goals in the period and the Sens would take the game 6-2. Condon made 38 saves in a dominant performance. Multiple Senators would finish the game with 2 points or more; including: Punnenovs 2 goals, Wellmore 2 goals 1 assist, White 2 assists.

The Senators will travel back to Ottawa, where they will get set to host the Flyers. Last years break out team.

FLYERS HAND SENS FIRST LOSS
October 20th, 2022


Mike Condon was sensational in net for Ottawa, stopping 39 of 41 shots faced, but it wasn't enough as the Flyers defeated the Senators 3-1.

It was a scoreless game until the 2nd Period, when Konecny fought off Punnenovs down low and attempted a shot on net. Condon made the save but got bumped off the post by Wolanin allowing Konecny to bury his own rebound.

Tierney would tie the game at the 5:01 mark of the 3rd Period by deflecting a Punnenovs point shot on the Powerplay. The Flyers quickly get that one back, with Giroux connecting with Voracek on a two on one. Philadelphia would put away an empty netter to ice the game late in the third, handing the Senators their first lose of the season.

SENS BOUNCE BACK AGAINST BLUES

The Senators went 2/4 on the Powerplay and were able to capitalize on their chances when they downed the Blues by a score of 6-2. The Senators Penalty Kill also did admirably as they killed all 7 penalties they took.

Formenton opened the scoring at the 3:21 mark of the First Period on a down low pass from Wellmore and Brown. Punnenovs sniped a PPG at 8:14 for a 2-0 lead. Punnenovs, who has been red hot lately, buried his second of the game by tipping in a Jaros point shot.

Things got chippy in the Second Period at 13:54 after Logan Brown levelled Perry into the boards. Perry left the ice favoring his right arm. Brown had to answer the bell and fight Parayko. But there was a lot of post whistle scrimmages for the rest of the period. Merrill blocked a Pietangelo blast and came up favoring his leg. He wouldn't return to the bench. Logan Brown would net his Gordie Howe Hat-Trick by getting a Powerplay Goal late in the third.

Although not that busy, only facing 28 shots, Merzlikens played well in his second start of the season.

I switched my PK from Passive Box to Diamond. I knew the Blues were trying to get the puck to the Point on the PP.

Jon Merrill will be Day to Day with a bruised ankle, Erik Gudbranson will draw into the lineup.

Corey Perry (STL) will miss the next 8 weeks with a broken clavicle. Perry suffered the injury in a game against the Ottawa Senators.

Yea, I used Pre-Season to gauge whether or not to keep them up and only Punnenovs was NHL ready. Given my Center Depth, I was okay with sending Byfield back to the minors.
