THIRD PERIOD COLLAPSES CONTINUE TO PLAGUE THE LEAFS

Frederick Andersen would be replaced midway through the their period and the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-4 in the season/home opener.

Former Leaf Jake Muzzin got the 'Nucks on board at 03:14 of the 1st. It would remain that way until Midway through the second.

An interesting series of events took place. Ryan Fitzgerald took a penalty at 12:09. 20 seconds later, Ilya Mihkeyev would tie the game on a shorthanded marker. Then at 12:50, Tomas Vanek would take a penalty, turning it into a 5-on-3 for Vancouver. They would capitalize, Horvat scoring at 13:45. Then, still killing off the Vanek penalty, Ryan Fitzgerald would redeem himself by scoring another shorthanded tying goal at 14:41. Unfortunately Vancouver's Dadonov would add a late goal to give them a 3-2 lead.

Tomas Vanek would tie the game at 3 at 09:07 after a defensive lapse. Unfortunately that's where things went south. Vancouver would score 4 straight goals, 2 on Andersen before adding 2, more on Binnington. Foligno & Pettersen would score on Andersen and Pearson and Foligno would welcome Binnington to the game.

Ilya Mihkeyev would add his second of the game with 6 seconds left for the 7-4 final

Bit of a collapse in the third, typical Leafs. Did you find the D corp hard to play?

A defensive blunder by yours truly led to Nick Folignos first goal. That left me a little... frustrated and unfortunately I let the game get away from me. Most losses are because I let my emotions get in the way of my gameplay and it costs me sometimes. I just can't really put it in my game blurbs LOL.

LEAFS CHASE BERNIER, BEAT RED WINGS 9-5

Ryan Fitzgerald scored 2 goals and an assist and the teams combined for 11 goals in the 3rd period as the Leafs beat the Detroit Red Wings 9-5. Frederik Andersen would start after Jordan Binnington was ill, Binnington did dress as backup.

Auston Matthews would open the scoring shorthanded at 5:26, with newcomer Jonas Brodin adding his first at 08:08.

Frederik Andersen stood tall that period, making all 17 saves in the first, and another 10 in the second, which saw Alexander Steen score his first goal, also shorthanded, at 5:37.

The third period was a cluster****.

Jason Zucker would add his first at 1:37, then the penalties started. Larkin would score at 4:25 to make it 4-1. Then Byfuglien would take an unsportsmanlike penalty. Alexander Steen would score a 3rd shorthanded goal for the team, but Detroit would end the penalty 13 seconds later courtesy of Anthony Mantha. Tavares would take a penalty at 10:23, and Fitzgerald would score his second of the game, for the teams 4th and final shorthanded goal. Detroit's Fabbri would take advantage of a Brodin penalty and Larkin would add another at 15:35. William Nylander would add another at 18:03.

At 19:06, Fitzgerald scored his second. Detroit's Michael Rasmussen scored 20 seconds later and Tomas Vanek would score at 19:32 for the 9-5 final

MARLIES BOLSTER DEPTH, ADD FITZGERALD FROM LEAFS
                  October 16 2020

The Marlies solidified their depth adding centers Karson Khulman & Torrey Mitchell, right wing Patrick Eaves and goalie Jean-Francois Berube.

Khulman and Eaves will slot into the lineup immediately, whilst Mitchell and Berube will be a healthy scratch

In addition, the Leafs and Marlies swapped centers, the Leafs recalling David Backes and sending down Ryan Fitzgerald.

                        MARLIES SINK ISLANDERS 5-1

The Marlies wanted a big win and got it in a dominating performance.

Not only did the teams offense score 5 goals, the teams Defense limited the opponent's to just 9 shots in the game. The final shot totals were 54-9 in favor of the Marlies.

The first period saw Max Jones take back to back penalties, and Kevin Rooney would score in the latter, before Mackenzie MacEachern would add another for a 2-0 lead midway through the first. MacEachern would add his second at 16:11 to head into the first intermission up 3-0.

Ryan Fitzgerald would score at 4;32 of the second to make it 4-0 and Joakim Nygard would add his first AHL goal on the PowerPlay to make it 5-0. And would also end Hawaii goalie Michael Hutchinson's night; Chris Driedger would relieve him. Hawaii would ruin McElhinneys shutout bid with a Matthew Phillips goal at 18:02.

The third saw no goals despite the 17 shots the Marlies took - Chris Driedger managed to stop the bleeding, but there wasn't enough time to heal for the Islanders

Prospects are players you drafted but are developing so they haven't made the jump to the NHL yet. Think of William Nylander and Kasperi Kapanen in the most recent years.

In Ottawa that would be Drake Batherson, Alex Formenton and hopefully Logan Brown.

Well I'm wondering if Robertson would do better on wing. Tavares will eventually be replaced, my plans are by SDA, so hoping that Robertson could play Left Wing

In goal, Kari Pirronen has been signed to an ELC but didn't make the team so he's in junior. I suspect he assumes the starter role in the minors next year
