The Toronto Maple Leafs look to extend their winning streak to 11 as they host the Seattle Grizzlies. The longest winning streak in franchise history is 10, set in September-October 2016. The longest in NHL history is 17 (Pittsburgh Penguins, 1992-1993).

Frederik Andersen will get the start tonight, newcomer Matt Murray will dress as his backup; Murray is likely to start tomorrow against Colorado Avalanche

Forward Jason Zucker is dealing with a nagging injury, therefore forward David Backes will play again. A slight change to the lineup has seen Alexander Kerfoot promoted to the top line with Tavares & Marner. More details to come on lineups

LEAFS WIN FRANCHISE-RECORD 11TH STRAIGHT WIN

In a true David vs Goliath, the Goliath came out on top but David certainly never quit.

The Seattle Grizzlies forced overtime and almost a shootout before Alexander Kerfoot would end it with just 30 seconds left

Despite starting the OT rather top heavy (Marner-Tavares-Matthews), the Leafs nearly lost numerous times due to defensive errors, which were the Storyline tonight.

Seattle would score first with Marcus Foligno scoring with just 6 seconds left in the period to head into the first intermission with the lead

Timothy Liljegren would give the Leafs life at 9:46 of the second to tie the game

Seattle would again score to take the lead at 18:17, courtesy of Evgeny Svechnikov, also of the second

Ryan McDonagh would take an early penalty in the third and William Nylander made him pay for it at 5:30. David Backes added another goal 4 minutes later.

Seattle wouldn't go down without a fight though, with Marcus Foligno scoring again to tie it and send it to overtime

During the OT, both goalies had to be sharp. Both teams had breakaways and one timers.

It was Toronto that would get the last laugh; Kerfoot would score his 10th at 4:32 to end the game a 4-3 Leafs victory.

Frederik Andersen finished with 17 saves on 20 shots (.850%, 2.79GAA
Seattle goalie Tukka Rask finished with 41 saves on 45 shots (.911%, 3.72GAA)

LEAFS HOST DEVILS, LOOK TO EXTEND FRANCHISE RECORD
          January 21 2021

Toronto Maple Leafs (30-12-4, 65pts, 1st in Atlantic, Tied 1st in Conference)

          Vs

New Jersey Devils (15-26-5, 35pts, 8th in Metropolitan, 16th in Conference)

Matt Murray will make his Maple Leafs debut as the Maple Leafs take on the New Jersey Devils, looking to extend their winning streak to 13.

Murray was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Alexandar Georgiev and others. He is 8-6-2 with a .909 Save % and a 2.65 GAA

The New Jersey Devils are likely to counter with Mackenzie Blackwood. The team is dealing with injuries to Casey Cizikas and prospect defensemen Michael Vukojevic so former Leaf Connor Carrick will slot in as will forwards Joanne Kuokkanen and Jesper Boqvist.

MURRAY WINS DEBUT, LEAFS EXTEND STREAK TO 13

Matt Murray made 20 saves, Dustin Byfuglien scored 2 goals including his 50th career goal, and the Toronto Maple Leafs crushed the New Jersey Devils 6-1.

David Backes opened the scoring at 10:31 of the first, followed by Byfuglien at 15:11 with his 50th. A brief pause took place to celebrate the milestone. Jack Hughes would get the Devils on board at 16:39.

William Nylander would add a quick goal at 2:51, of the second to make it 3-1. The teams would then go on to play a very tough defensive battle

Nothing happened until 14:17 of the third period. Dion Phaneuf scrapped with Jesper Boqvist. Unfortunately Phaneuf came out on the losing end which could have put a dent in the Leafs momentum and allowed the Devils back into it.

Could have, if Byfuglien didn't score 8 seconds later on the ensuing faceoff to deflate any chances of a comeback.

Rookie Yegor Korshkov would add his 8th at 19:14 and Jonas Brodin would add another at 19:24 for the 6-1 final. Brodin, would then take the games only minor penalty with 5 seconds left.

Devils goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood made 33 saves in a losing effort

                LEAFS HEAD TO NATIONS CAPITAL
                January 30 2021

Toronto Maple Leafs (32-12-4, 68pts, 1st in League)

                Vs

                Ottawa Senators (26-8-4, 56pts, 6th in Atlantic)

Henrik Lundqvist will return and make the start tonight as the Toronto Maple Leafs take on the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Center

The Leafs, currently enjoying a Franchise High 14 game winning streak, appear to do no wrong; they haven't lost since December 21 2020 (3-0 L to Vegas) and of the 14 wins, 8 of them were by 3+ goals, with 3 more decided by 2 goals. Clearly the Leafs offense is gelling well with head coach Jacob Smaby. It has propelled then from 3rd in the division to 1st in the League and potentially the President's Trophy.

The Senators, expected to be in the basement, are currently tangling with the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes for the 2nd wildcard spot. Joones Korpisalo will start for the Senators

LEAFS CRUISE PAST SENATORS; EXTEND STREAK TO 15

Henrik Lundqvist and the Maple Leafs had to make just 16 saves to beat the Ottawa Senators 5-1.

Despite having the advantage in time on ice (7:39 to 4:40), the Sens found themselves in the short end in shots (26 to 17).

The first period saw 0 scoring as both teams felt each other out, with Ottawa leading in shots 8-3

Auston got the Leafs started at 4:30 of the second, JT Compher made it 2-0 less than 2 minutes later.

Then things got hairy. Joakim Nygard and Dustin Byfuglien got into back to back fights, which they both won. This gave the Leafs the momentum heading into the break.

The Leafs would start strong as Mitch Marner would score at 4:30. Ottawa showed they're in the arena still as Chris Tierney would finally get the Senators on the board at 11:16. Alexander Steen however would dash any hopes of a comeback by scoring at 18:08 to make it 4-1, with Jonas Brodin adding another at 19:46 for the 5-1 final

The win extended the Leafs winning streak to 15. The league record is 17. Stay tuned!

                        Plus/Minus Leaders:
                        •A. Matthews: +26
                        •M. Marner/M. Reilly: +25
                        •D. Byfuglien: +22

                        Storylines:

•Winning Streak: The Toronto Maple Leafs are currently making Franchise history and are close to beating league history. They're on a 15 game winning streak (the previous Franchise record was 10, the league record is 15, set by Pittsburgh). Frederik Andersen has returned to his winning ways - he has a record of 23-8-2 with 2 shutouts. Backups Matt Murray & Henrik Lundqvist haven't played many games with the Leafs - Lundqvist was acquired in December but has been dealing with injuries. Murray was recently acquired but got pushed to third string when the King returned.

•Second Line Struggles: The Leafs are getting contributions from all over the lineup, but the second line has been a bit underwhelming. Auston Matthews originally centered the line but has formed such good chemistry with Tavares and Marner that he's been playing LW a lot more than usual.

This meant the second line usually saw Alexander Kerfoot at Center with William Nylander on the right wing. Another problem is the second line LW. Jason Zucker, Jesper Bratt and Tomas Vanek have all had looks on the line. Zucker hasn't had the breakout season we expected - he has just 8 goals and 21 points. Tomas Vanek is having a decent year for his age with 10 goals and 29 points, but his age means he has trouble keeping up with the speedy Kerfoot and Nylander.

Enter Jesper Bratt. The forward, brought in from the New Jersey Devils, has 12 goals and 30 points in 45 games, mostly on the third line, but may also get additional looks on the second line moving forward.

•Depth: For years, the Leafs have been top heavy. Now, with the additions of Tomas Vanek, Jesper Bratt, Alex Steen & JT Compher, the Leafs have 4 full lines that can provide offense

•Injuries: The one dent in a otherwise amazing season, it has kept Top 4 defenseman Travis Hamonic for 10 games, RW Ilya Mihkeyev has missed 20+ games and of course Henrik Lundqvist and his injury history. If the Leafs can be fully healthy heading into the playoffs, look for a deep run

The Rangers are in a hectic battle in the Metropolitan Division. New York, with 56 points, is 4th in the division, and sits just 2 points back from Carolina for 3rd in the division. The Atlantic Division has both wildcard spots with 61 & 59 points. Igor Shesterkin will get the start; former Leaf Jordan Binnington will play backup.

The Leafs will don special Hockey Fights Cancer jerseys for this game

LEAFS CLIP RANGERS, EXTEND STREAK TO 16

Auston Matthews scored two goals, Henrik Lundqvist made 22 saves and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the New York Rangers 6-4 in a rather high scoring game

The first period was all Toronto. They outshot the Rangers 19-6 and led 2-0 by the end, courtesy of David Backes and Jesper Bratt.

The second period saw more scoring as Marner (07:18) & Matthews (09:33) would score to make it 4-0 and looked like a runaway.

But New York wasn't giving up. Gettinger & Zibanejad scores at 10:36 & 15:06 to make the score 4-2 going into the 3rd. Shots were 11-10 New York

In the third, Morgan Reilly scored at 7:45 to make it 5-2. But once again the Rangers found and nearly succeeded. Vinne Lettieri scored at 10:13 and Ryan Strome scored at 19:18, with an empty net, to make it 5-4.

Though the Rangers would push and nearly broke through, Auston Matthews would hey a final shot off into the empty net for the 6-4

The win extends the franchise winning streak record to 16. Could potentially tie the league mark in tomorrow's game
