      2021 WESTERN CONFERENCE QUARTER FINALS

      C1 Winnipeg Jets (51-27-4, 106 Points)
      Vs
      W2 Chicago Blackhawks (39-36-7, 85 Points)

      X-Factors:

      WPG: Top Line (124-196-319, +134)

Winnipeg's top line carried them into the playoffs, with all 3 scoring 40+ goals. Mark Scheifele (41-75-116), Patrick Laine (42-62-104) & Blake Wheeler (43-59-102) complimented each other they ran away with the team scoring. 4th place in goals is Kyle Connor with 26

      CHI: Corey Crawford (30-26-6, 2 Shutouts, .900%, 3.19GAA)

The man tasked with shutting down that top line is Corey Crawford. He didn't have the most stellar season, so he will need to up his game for Chicago to have a chance.

Prediction: Winnipeg's top line carried them to the playoffs and it'll be enough to easily carry them past an aging Crawford. WPG IN 4

      P1 Vegas Golden Knights (47-27-8, 102 Points)
      Vs
      W1 Dallas Stars (38-34-10, 86 Points)

      X-Factors:

      VGK: Jason Zucker (VGK 21GP: 5-12-17, +8/TOR 45GP: 11-19-30, +5)

After being acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs, Jason Zucker found a home in Vegas, scoring 17 points in 21 games, after having a somewhat disappointing season with the Leafs.

      DAL: Ben Bishop (23-28-7, 2 Shutouts, .900%, 3.16GAA)

It's hard to imagine a goaltender with a losing Record would make it into the playoffs, but thanks to rookie Jake Oettinger winning key games, they managed to get into the playoffs. Dallas will need Ben Bishop to be his best; rookie Jake Oettinger is injured and unavailable. Bishop will be backed up by Andrew Hammond

Prediction: Vegas has two too quality lines and an improved bottom 6. Only in defense does Dallas have a slight advantage. Bishop will need to steal games to have a chance. VGK IN 5

      P2 Vancouver Canucks (45-30-7, 97 Points)
      Vs
      P3 Edmonton Oilers (43-33-6, 92 Points)

      X-Factors:

      VAN: Adam Gaudette (25-30-55, +12)

Playing behind centers Elias Pettersson and Bo Horvat is no easy task, yet Adam Gaudette seems to have hit down pat. Playing an average of just 15 minutes a game, he set career highs in goals and points

      EDM: James Neal (35-24-59, +8)

Two seasons after scoring just 7 goals in 63 games, James was second in the team in goals (Leaon Draisaitl, 42) and had more than players like Connor McDavid (28), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (23) and Kailer Yamamoto (12).

Prediction: This is another good series. Edmonton has an advantage in net (Braden Holtby) compared to Vancouver Robin Lehner) but Vancouver's offensive depth is nothing to laugh at. VAN IN 7

      C2 St Louis Blues (47-32-3, 97 Points)
      Vs
      C3 Colorado Avalanche (41-31-10, 92 Points)

      X-Factors:

      STL: Jaden Schwartz (15-31-46, -16)

With Vladimir Tarasenko out with an injury, look for Jaden Schwartz to slot in on the top line. He wasn't all that great during the regular season but he does tend to shine when it counts

      COL: Martin Frk (23-28-51, -6)

After years of middling around the bottom 6 and the minors, Martin Frk exploded for 23 goals this season. Look for him to provide more offense The top line struggles

Prediction: Yet another close series. Both teams have multiple players with negative Plus/Minus stats. Look for it to come down to goaltending STL IN 7

        2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs

        Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals Game 1

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Toronto Maple Leafs
        Series Tied: 0-0

The Leafs look to continue their season ending winning streak into the playoffs as the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 of the Quarter Finals.

The Leafs are looking for payback after being ousted in 7 games last year; that led to a number of players changing teams and the team gelled rather quickly. Combined with a Franchise record 16 game winning streak and another 8 game winning streak to end the year.

The Rangers defense and goalie have their work cut out against this high powered offense

        Game Lineups to come

LEAFS WIN GAME 1; LEAD SERIES 1-0

Frederik Andersen recovered from a shaky first period to finish with 27 saves as the Toronto Maple Leafs downed the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals.

In a game filled with fights and penalties, Alex Tuch was ejected from the game just 7 minutes into the game after earning a Game Misconduct for charging Tampa forward Anthony Cirelli.

There were a total of 4 fights, with the teams splitting the decisions evenly 2-2

Jesper Bratt and Yegor Korshkov gave the Leafs a 2-0 lead midway through the first, and that started a goal fest. At 13:12, Tampa Bay forward Mike Hoffman would score to make it 2-1. 15 seconds later, Morgan Reilly would score to make it 3-1. Another 20 seconds later and Auston Matthews would make it 4-1. 17 seconds after that, Tampa forward Yanni Gourde would make it 4-2. Rounding out the period was Ondrej Palat, the Tampa forward scoring at 16:11 to make it 4-3.

The Leafs would score early at 3:32 of the second (Joakim Nygard) and that is all the scoring the game would have as the game would end 5-3.

A controversial interference call took place in the third - despite the puck being underneath the player that got hit,JT Compher still got an interference call, one the Leafs would fortunately kill off.

Game 2 goes two days from now here in Toronto

Great recap. Hard fought win. Where the fights caused be questionable hits?

One was caused by me taking an apparent late shot on goal [emoji849]

Others were big hits by me that Tampa apparently didn't like [emoji1745]

                  CONTRACT EXTENSIONS

In a rare move, General Manager Kyle Dubas has announced the resigning of defenseman Morgan Reilly to a 5 year deal worth $10million

Despite the playoffs not usually featuring many contract renewals, the Leafs felt it necessary to lock up Morgan Reilly rather than risk losing him to free agency

                    2021 Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals Game 2
                    Toronto Maple Leafs (1-0-0)
                    Vs
                    Tampa Bay Lightning (0-1-0)

                    Scotiabank Arena, 7:00pm

Toronto looks to continue flexing it's offensive muscle as they take on Tampa Bay in game 2.

The Leafs scored 5 goals en route to a 5-3 victory in game 1. Frederik Andersen started a little shaky but regrouped to lead the team to victory.

Alex Tuch looks to be a little more disciplined this game - the Maple Leafs forward was ejected after playing just 4 minutes for a charging penalty

Tampa Bay is coming into game 2 short not one but THREE more players. Defenseman Victor Hedman and forward Mathieu Joseph and Anthony Cirelli all suffered injuries in Game 1 as a result of the physical play of the Maple Leafs. Although all were clean hits, they nonetheless did their damage

PENALTY TROUBLES SINK LEAFS; LOSE 4-3 IN OVERTIME
                        [Series tied 1-1]

Andrei Vasilevsky made 43 saves to help the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 in Overtime. The series is tied at 1 a piece heading to Tampa Bay.

The first period was scoreless, with both Frederik Andersen and Vasilevsky making highlight reel saves. Leafs held the shots 16-11.

Early in the second we had a goal fest similar to Game 1. Mitch Marner scored the games first goal at 2:22. Just over 2 minutes later, Mike Hoffman would tie the game. Just over a minute later, Alex Kerfoot would give the Leafs the lead again.

5 minutes later Ondrej Palat would score his second of the series to tie the game at 2-2. William Nylander would put the Leafs up 3-2 to end the period.

The game would remain that way and it looked like the Leafs would win the game, but with the net empty, Ryan Carpenter would score at 19:22 to tie the game.

Overtime would prevail. And despite the strong start, the Leafs would get into Penalty trouble quickly. Travis Hamonic would take a hooking minor at 6:51. JT Compher would compound the issue at 8:11. Then at 8:57, Rasmus Sandin took another penalty. On the ensuing faceoff, Tampa Bay would win the game in a Brayden Point writer after a quick game of tic tac toe with Tyler Johnson and Alex Killorn.

Frederik Andersen made 37 saves in the loss. Game 3 is in two days in Tampa Bay

In a rare move, Head Coach Jacob Smaby has decided to start backup Henrik Lundqvist instead of incumbent starter Frederik Andersen. Henrik was 11-3-1 for the Leafs and 15-5-1 in the season.

"This wasn't a decision made easily and isn't an indication of Andersen's play or health." Assured Smaby "This is about making a momentum change"

King Henrik does have the higher Regular Season career stats (487-323-87 vs 251-11-46) but has a slight disadvantage in Playoff stats (66-68-1 vs 29-23-2).

Center JT Compher will be a healthy scratch; veteran center David Backes will slot in as third line center

Tampa Bay looks to take the series lead at home and will start Andrei Vasilevsky in net

BAD PUCK DISCIPLINE COSTS LEAFS GAME, TRAIL SERIES 2-1

Andrei Vasilevsky made 33 saves to help the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2.

In the first period, once again penalties were problematic, with Bouwmeester (6:47), Nygard (6:47), Backes (7:39) & Steen (7:55) all taking penalties. Of course presented with that many opportunities, Tampa would convert; Yanni Gourde scoring at 7:55 for the 1-0 lead. Luckily Mitch Marner would tie it at 10:43.

The second period saw 0 scoring as both teams goalies stood tall.

The third was all Tampa Bay, with Brayden Point, Brayden Cobourn and Gemel Smith all scoring to make it 4-1. Despite the ample time in the offensive Zone, the Leafs would either turn the puck over or their shots would be blocked.

Jay Bouwmeester added a pity goal at 19:52 and Henrik Lundqvist finished with 25 saves

ANDERSEN BACK IN NET FOR GAME 4

                                [TBL leads 2-1]

Frederik Andersen will get the start for game 4 as the Toronto Maple Leafs take on the Tampa Bay Lightning. Henrik Lundqvist started game 3 and lost 4-2. The Leafs look to be more disciplined with and without the puck; something that has been a constant issue in games 2 & 3.

Tampa Bay is hoping to get more out of Captain Steven Stamkos and too defenseman Victor Hedman; both are pointless (Hedman has played in 1 less game than Stamkos, having missed Game 2), Hedman has a -2 and Stamkos is tied for team worst -3 (Justin Schultz, Ondrej Palat)

Tampa Bay has a chance to put a strangled on the series as they lead it 2-1
