LEAFS TRAVEL TO THE HOME OF COUNTRY MUSIC
    Nov 5 2020

Jordan Binnington gets the start tonight as the Leafs (6-5-0) take on the Nashville Predators (0-8-3) in Nashville.

Binnington, signed as a free agent, has not had a good start to the year; going 0-3-0, allowing 16 goals on 78 shots, die a .792% and a horrendous GAA 8.53. These are not stats you want your backup goalie getting.

Nashville, looking for their first win, will have to do so without Pekka Rinne; he is out with an undisclosed injury. Jusse Saros will get the start with Connor Ingram serving as his backup

    Nashville Lineup:

    Forsberg-Duchene-Arvidsson
    Tolvanen-Johansen-Jarnkrok
    Granlund-Sissons-Toffoli
    Brassard-Turris-Bonino

    Josi-Ellis
    Ekholm-Brodie
    Green-Fabbro

LEAFS WIN, NASHVILLE WINLESS IN 12 GAMES

The Predators Continue to skid, losing to Toronto 5-3

Tavares would get the Leafs in the board first, just 30 seconds into the period. Nashville would retaliate less than a minute later with Matt Duchene scoring. Kerfoot (6:10) and Reilly (14:07) would add goals to ensure the Leafs would be up 3-1.

Matt Duchene would add his second at 3:27 of the second period, the lone goal of the period, to make it 3-2 Leafs.

Calle Jarnkrok would briefly cause apprehension after tying it at 9:49 of the third.

But David Backes, a surprising addition to the PowerPlay, scored at 14:45 to give the Leafs the lead, a lead they would cling to until 19:55 when Nylander added an empty netter for the 5-3 final

Binnington got the W, but continues to have struggles; he allowed 3 goals on 23 shots, and a save % of .879 and a GAA of 3.00. It'll be interesting to see if he can turn it around and be the goalie we signed for

LEAFS HOST SENATORS, LOOK TO WIN 3RD STRAIGHT
          November 18 2020

The Toronto Maple Leafs (10-6-1) take on the Ottawa Senators (11-5-1) at Scotiabank Arena as the Leafs look to win 3 straight for the first time this series

Jordan Binnington gets a rare start on a non-back to back situation; the 27 year old netminder needs to work on his stats, 2-3-0, .844%, 4.95GAA. A change could be made in the near future

Due to injuries to Tomas Vanek and Ilya Mihkeyev, Toronto prospect Yegor Korshkov was recalled from the Marlies. He will make his NHL debut tonight on the 4th line alongside Alexander Steen and David Backes

The Ottawa Senators were likely to respond with Joonas Korpisalo, 10-4-0, with a shutout and a .917% and a 2.44 GAA. The teams leading scorer is surprising; 3rd Line Center Filip Chlapik leads the team in points with 4 goals & 20 points; Chiasson and Thatchuk are tied for first in goals with 8.

FREDDY SAVES THE DAY, LEAFS BEAT SENATORS 7-4

Frederik Andersen made 15 saves on 16 shots to help the Leafs rally to beat the Senators 7-4.

Jordan Binnington got the start, but was pulled midway through the second after allowing 3 goals on 5 shots. This could be the final nail in the coffin of the Binnington experiment

The first period was such a defensive battle, the shots were 5-4 Leafs in the first. Final shot totals was 32-21 in favor of the Leafs.

The Leafs would score first courtesy of Jesper Bratt at 3:13, but Ottawa would respond 47 seconds later; captain Brady Thatchuk scoring what should have been an easy save. Ottawa's Chiasson (9:31) and Toronto's Byfuglien (14:30, PPG) would trade goals for a 2-2 tie

Sorensen would end Binningtons night at 3:54 of the second. David Backes would score his first to tie it but Chiasson would score again to take a 3-2 lead

The third was all Leafs, with Timothy Liljegren, Backes, Alexander Steen & Jason Zucker each scoring for the 7-4 final.

Toronto's PK unit was particularly effective, scoring 3 goals while allowing just 1 PPG. Backes, Steen & Zucker had the shorthanded goals

Ottawa's Korpisalo made 25 saves in the loss

BINNINGTON EXPERIMENT OVER; LEAFS ADD THE KING

The King is leaving New York. After spending his entire career with the New York Rangers, Henrik Lundqvist has been acquired by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Also heading to Toronto is the St Louis Blues 2021 1st Round Pick.

In order to acquire him, the Leafs sent goaltender Jordan Binnington and New York Rangers own 2021 3rd Round Pick. Binnington did not do well with the Leafs, going 2-3-0 with a .830% and a 5.15GAA.

Picking up Lundqvist allows the Leafs a solid backup goaltender whilst prospects such as Kari Pirronen and Tye Austin develop through the system, and he's signed to a cheaper deal at $4.185M/year, although he's signed for 2 years. Before his Injury, he was 4-2-0 with 1 shutout, and .930% and a 2.43GAA

LEAFS NOT DONE, ADD GEORGIEV FROM FLYERS

The Leafs also shored up their goaltender depth by adding Alexander Georgiev from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for 3rd stringer Eric Comrie, who hadn't played a game with the Leafs.

Georgiev is 24, and went 10-8-1 with a .921% last season. He's only played twice due to the Philly depth and has gone 0-2-0. However, The King is currently dealing with an Injury, so Georgiev will slot in immediately as the backup to Frederik Andersen, who is once again the undisputed #1 goalie

Funny sidenote: I didn't look at the schedule before the trades.

The very next game, against New York Rangers. Looks like Georgiev gets to play in Madison Square Garden again

GEORGIEV TO MAKE LEAFS DEBUT AGAINST FORMER TEAM

Luckily the trip from Philadelphia to New York isn't far, because the day after being acquired, Alexander Georgiev will make his debut on the road against the New York Rangers.

Head Coach Sheldon Keefe also made changes to his Lineup, looking to shake up his team

                      Zucker-Tavares-Nylander
                      Bratt-Matthews-Marner

                      Backup: Frederik Andersen

MATTHEWS HAT TRICK LETS LEAFS EDGE RANGERS

Alexander Kerfoot scored 3:13 into Overtime to give the Leafs a 7-6 win in a penalty filled affair.

The first period saw one goal, by Matthews at 3:44. The second period was when the Leafs got into penalty trouble, taking 3 consecutive penalties, which unfortunately the Rangers capitalized on, scoring 3 courtesy of DeAngelo, Fox & Chytil. But the Leafs would head into the intermission tied, thanks to goals by Tavares and Kerfoot, also on the PowerPlay

Neither team could protect themselves while shorthanded, with the Rangers going 3/4 and the Leafs going 2/3

The third period continued the seesaw affair with 6 goals scored. The Leafs got goals by Matthews (3:17) & Nylander (9:26) whilst Panarin (8:18) and Benn (16:15) scored to set up a wild last minute.

Auston Matthews would complete his hat trick at 19:19, setting the team up to win, but a defensive turnover led to DeAngelo scoring Again at 19:27 to tie it to send it to overtime.

Georgiev, to this point, hadn't been playing that well; allowing 6 goals on 26 shots. In the Overtime however, despite only making 3 saves, all three were desperation cross ice saves. Then, Rangers center Ryan Stroke would win the faceoff at 3:03. The puck would go to Kapoor Kakko, who was immediately demolished by Jonas Brodin who then sent a streaking Alexander Kerfoot on a breakaway and he made no mistake

Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin made 23 saves in the loss

                          WAIVERS NOTICE - November 29 2020

Maple Leafs Right Wing Pontus Aberg was picked up on waivers by the Nashville Predators.

The Maple Leafs had just hired a new coach, J. Smaby. They didn't gel well and combined with Abergs production, he was made expendable with the Leafs recalling Joakim Nygard

So Aberg was put through waivers with the intent to send him to the Marlies, but he was picked up by the Nashville Predators on waivers. He had 4 goals and 12 points in 23 games.

Also sent to the minors was RW Yegor Korshkov

                            Monthly Recap - November 2020

                            Monthly Record: 9-4-2
                            Overall Record: 14-8-2 (30pts, 4th in Atlantic)

                            Team Leaders:
                            Goals: Auston Matthews - 12
                            Points: Matthews/Mitch Marner - 28
                            +/-: Marner +10

                            Who's Hot:

•Mitch Marner: Despite missing 2 games due to Injury, Marner continues to tear up opponents, with 11 goals and 28 points in 23 games. He's also been reliable defensively with a +10

                            Who's Not:

•Frederik Andersen: Although he has a winning record (11-5-2), some of his other stats are glaring n such as a .890 Save % or a 3.46 GA; hopefully he can turn it around, as backup Henrik Lundqvist is out until Januay 2021.

                              MAPLE LEAFS MAKE COACHING CHANGE

The Toronto Maple Leafs shook up their head office after Head Coach Gaspard Savard was relieved of duties. Despite Savards experience, the team didn't form that we'll of chemistry with the coach.

The Team has already found a replacement. Jacob Smaby. He led Buffalo to a 51-29-2 record in the 2019-2020 season, but didn't resign with the team. The Maple Leafs added him to a 5 year deal at $3.995M/year

Smaby brings offensive potential to the Maple Leafs, with a tendency to take risks on offense; he does tend to work best with offensive forwards.

A depleted Maple Leafs look to gain points against a resurgent Boston Bruins, who were 2nd in the division early in the season but are now 6th, just 3 points back of the Maple Leafs.

The list of injuries is long.

The Boston Bruins let both Rask and Halak walk this off season, with Rask signing with the Seattle Grizzlies and Halak going to Edmonton. This has left goalie Cam Talbot as the starter with rookie Michael DiPietro serving as backup

                                Lineups to come!
