MARLIES DEFEAT SAN ANTONIO 7-3, WIN CALDER CUP
      Toronto wins series 4-1

Mike Smith stood tall, making 43 saves and three Marlies players had 3 points to lead the Marlies to a 7-3 victory.

Alex Biega would score his first of the playoffs at 8:06 of the first and Ryan Fitzgerald would add another at 10:03 for a quick 2-0 lead before Patrick Maroon would make it 2-1 at 14:21.

Kale Kossila would start the Marlies strong at 1:11 of the second but goals by Steen (04:10) & Borgman (15:27) would tie the game at 3.

The 3rd period is when San Antonio took a break. Kenny Agostino started it at 09:40, followed by Fitzgerald (16:53).

Yegor Korshkov (19:41) and Rasmus Sandin (19:54) would add goals in the last minute for the 7-3 final

Hey, just got caught up. Tough loss vs Buffalo, but you are on the right track.

          Any big offseason plans?

Top 4 dman, likely to play with Hamonic on the second pairing (Reilly-Byfuglien is a good top pair when healthy) and maybe some depth defensemen. Of last year's bottom pairings, only Holl is signed for next year.

Also a Top 6 forward to play with Tavares or Matthews.

I'll be making a post about the teams offseason plans and players on the hot seat (with one particular surprise entry in that)

Re: Cursebreaker (Toronto Maple Leafs NHL20 - Fun Only)

              A Year in Review: 2019-2020

The 2019-2020 Regular Season was good for most of the Leafs. The team finished 2nd in League Standings with a 49-25-8 record. William Nylander set career highs in just about all categories. Tavares and Matthews continue to provide a 1-2 punch down the middle and Reilly-Byfuglien are as good a top pairing as could be hoped

That said there are glaring holes. The team was out in the first round Against Buffalo, and a lot of players were no shows that series

•Middle pairing defensemen: Losing Morgan Reilly just before playoffs exposed the teams lack of depth after moving Barrie, Muzzin & Dermott earlier in the year. Although Travis Hamonic stepped in admirably on the top pairing, players like Dion Phaneuf (0-3-3, 7 games) and Paul Ladue, who was held pointless in the playoffs despite scoring 45 points for the Marlies, a career AHL high, was overwhelmed at times.

Top Line Left Wing: With Tavares and Matthews down the middle, and Nylander and Marner in right wing, the Leafs need a top line LW. This will allow the coach to spread the scoring. For example, the Leafs used 3players on Tavares LW when Nylander played RW with Marner on line 2 ( Matthews, Sheary, Kerfoot) , and neither could gel properly.

Now whether the team goes for these in free agency or trades remains to be seen

              Hot Seat Players:

•Dion Phaneuf: Dion had a decent Regular Season with the Leafs (4-15-19, +5) but was just 0-3-3- and -1 in 7 Playoff games. If the Leafs can improve their top 6, Phaneuf may have a spot in the lineup; he did well playing on the 3rd pair

•Zach Hyman: Zach is a victim of depth. With the depth the Leafs have and chemistry that certain lineups formed, Hyman was stuck on line 4 and struggled to produce as a result of a the drop in ice time. Going 6-19-25 isn't the huge concern; the red flag is his -12 stat. That means he clearly cannot play in a defensive scheme and may not be back for next year; he is a pending UFA

                Drop Phaneuf....

Can you post your lines again, with your depth in the Marlies? I thinks its time to package a few of those RWs (How did Robertson do) for a high flying LW. New winger and Johnsson can shift it up on L1 and L2 plus PPs...

I'll do a position depth chart for my next post. Phaneuf was good as a bottom pairing defenseman, which was my original plan and where he played most of the ssaaon, but was heavily outplayed when asked to play middle pairing

Robertson played in the minor leagues this year. I'll add a prospect report as well

Also Andreas Johnsson is no longer with the team. He was picked up by the expansion team Seattle Grizzlies in the expansion draft

                              Toronto Maple Leafs Retirements (2019-2020)

                              •Viktor Fasth
                              Record:
                              Toronto Marlies: 19 GP: 12-7-0, 4 Shutouts, .903, 2.29 GAA
                              NHL Career: 63GP, 26-33-0, 4 Shutouts, .904%, 2.79 GAA

Viktor Fasth was signed to be the backup for Mike Smith in the AHL Toronto Marlies. He hadn't played in North America since the 2014/2015 season when he went 6-18-0 in 26 games.

He found his groove in the Marlies system though, providing a stable security blanket I'd anything happened to Mike Smith. The performance of Joseph Woll underscored Fasths value to the team

                                2020 NHL Draft Lottery Results

It seems the NHL really liked Edmonton. Although they didn't get first overall (more on that later), they jumped from 13th to 3rd. It'll be interesting to see who they pick now that they have better position.

The true winners this draft though is the Washington Capitals. Heading into the draft with the 14th overall pick, Washington had just a 1.5% chance to get the first overall pick. Well that's exactly what happened as the Capitals will pick first this year. Here is a list of the Top 15 as well as our position

                                1st: Washington Capitals
                                2nd: Ottawa Senators
                                3rd: Edmonton Oilers
                                4th: St Louis Blues
                                5th: Detroit Red Wings
                                6th: LA Kings
                                7th: Seattle Grizzlies
                                8th: Calgary Flames
                                9th: Columbus Blue Jackets
                                10th: Anaheim Ducks
                                11th: New Jersey Devils
                                12th: Minnesota Wild

                                15th: Minnesota Wild (via PHI)
