JOHN TAVARES SINGLEHANDEDLY BEATS THE BUFFALO SABRES

Tavares scored 4 goals and the Toronto Maple Leafs edged the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 in Game 1 of the ECQF.

The first period saw Tavares open the scoring at 8:18, but Buffalo tied it 3 minutes later on a goal by Jeff Skinner. Tavares would score again at 13:35, but Ristolainen would tie the game with 3 seconds in the period.

John Tavares scored at 9:30 to complete the hat trick, and to make it 3-2 and it would stay that way until 19:19 when Jeff Skinner would add his second of the game.

The third was defensive throughout and looked to be heading to Overtime when John Tavares scored his 4th with less than 2 seconds left in the game.

Up next is Game 2 @ Scotiabank Arena

LEAFS LOSE TAVARES, GAME 7 TO BUFFALO

Turnovers proved fatal to the Leafs as two blunders by Dion Phaneuf and Travis Hamonic led to goals, including the game winner, as the Buffalo Sabres would edge the Leafs 3-2 in Game 7.

Already playing without defenseman Morgan Reilly, the Leafs would lose John Tavares 6 minutes into the first; a questionable hit by Colin Miller on Conor Sheary would draw the ire of the Leafs captain. Tavares won the ensuing fight but suffered a game-ending injury in the process.

The Leafs, in a 1-1 tie thanks to Kasperi Kapenen & Buffalo's Jeff Skinner (assisted by Toronto's Dion Phaneuf), never quite recovered from that. Anders Lee would score a shorthanded goal later in the first to further lower the confidence of the team, even though Sheary would add a PowerPlay goal on the same penalty.

The game would remain tied until midway through the third. A huge defensive turnover by Travis Hamonic left Artem Anisimov alone in front of the net, point blank range. After that, Linus Ullmark put up the wall and withstood the Leafs onslaught, including 30 seconds of 6 on 4 action, to seal the victory.

The Buffalo Sabres advance to play the Boston Bruins in the Eastern Semi-Finals

Sometimes I wish there was a way where we could all do a franchise mode together, playing as different teams. That would be pretty damn cool if you ask me
