SABOURIN RECALLED FROM MARLIES; BYFUGLIEN, HAAS RETURN FROM INJURY

An injury to Frederik Gauthier has caused the Maple Leafs to recall winger Scott Sabourin from the AHL Marlies. Sabourin will slot in as 4th RW. Zach Hyman will shift to 4th Line LW, whilst Gaetan Haas moves to 4th line Center with Mikka Solomaki being a healthy scratch

On Defense, Dustin Byfuglien has returned. He will return to his spot next to Travis Dermott on the 2nd pairing, with Dion Phaneuf being returned to the 3rd pairing with Justin Holl/Jordan Schmaltz

TAVARES LOST TO INJURY; GAUTHIER OUT LONGER THAN EXPECTED (November 7 2019)

Center John Tavares has been injured and will be out until December 2019. Tavares has 7 goals & 15 points this season.

Also, Frederik Gauthier will be out until February 2020. As a precaution to other injuries, center & Marlies Captain Dominic Moore has been recalled. He will play the next few games as 4th line center while Gaeten Haas fully heals - he's been playing through an injury out of necessity

I see you brought back Phaneuf. Are you a fan of his, or was just a move for depth?

A mix of both. I was a fan of him; just not his contract or how he was used. If Phaneuf was on a better contract, and used better instead of the pressure of being a #1 dman when he isn't one, he could have been a much better player in real life for the Leafs

WORKMANSHIP PERFORMANCE IN WIN

Mike Smith made 24 saves and Pierre Engvall finished with a goal and an assist as the Toronto Marlies best the Tuscon Roadrunners 4-2.

Tuscon would strike first at 18:45 of the 1st on a goal by Jusso Ikonen. Engvall would tie it at 9:36 of the 2nd period.

The third period is where things got fun.

Kale Kossila scored at 3:01 to make it 2-1. Mackenzie MacEachern would make it 3-1 at 07:03.

Tuscon would pull their goaltender and score at 19:21 courtesy of Beau Bennett. But an empty netter by Kevin Rooney at 19:34 dashed any hopes of a comeback. In a moment of hilarity, Pontus Aberg fanned on a second empty net goal with 12 seconds left

TOR Scorers:
Engvall, Kossila, MacEachern, Rooney

G: Mike Smith, 24/26, .923%, GAA 2.00

TUC Scorers:
Ikonen, Bennett

WOLL GETS FIRST CAREER START

Backup goaltender Viktor Fasth took a leave of absence prior to the game against Rochester the day after the Tucson game. As a result of the back to back, Mike Smith needed a day off. So rookie goalie Joseph Woll will get the start tonight, Mike Smith will be his backup.

In addition, rookie Hudson Elynuik and Mac Hollowell will be playing their first games as well, replacing Joseph Blandisi and Calle Rosen.

WOLL GETS CHASED IN DEBUT

Kenny Agostino scored 2 back to back goals in the third, but it was too little too late as the Rochester Americans beat the Toronto Marlies 6-4

Joseph Woll got the start but was pulled after allowing 4 goals on 13 shots. Mike Smith made 8 saves in relief, allowing one goal

First period was all Rochester with Hickey (12:36), Malone (16:42) & Leier (19:06) adding markers

Marlies Marc Staal answered 27 seconds in the second but goals by Lazar (12:21) & Fitzgerald (15:51) made it 4-1 to end the second

Agostino would score two goals at 1:14 & 7:24 of the third period, and the Marlies would pull the goalie with 1:36 to go, but Tyler Randell would add an empty net goal. Leafs center Nico Sturm would score his first career goal 5 seconds later for the 6-4 final

TOR Scorers:
Staal, Agostino (2), Sturm

G: Joseph Woll, 9/13, .692%, GAA 7.43

MCDAVID HELD POINTLESS IN WIN AGAINST EDMONTON

Frederik Andersen made 26 saves and Connor McDavid was kept off the scoresheet as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-2.

After a scoreless first, Edmonton would strike first with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scoring a nifty one-timer past Andersen at 06:07. Auston Matthews would respond just over a minute later and Kasperi Kapanen would add another at 9:08 of the second. William Nylander would add another at 18:29 to make it 3-1 going into the third

Gaeten Haas was the recipient of a golden shorthanded breakaway and he did not miss, scoring at 00:29 of the third. Edmonton would get another goal at 19:05 (Khaira) but an empty netter by Brian Boyle iced the game

KOSSIKA NETS SHOOTOUT WINNER.

After a scoreless first, Toronto would strike quickly, Yegor Korshkov scoring at 01:14. However Henrik Zetterberg would tie it at 5:20.

A defensive Battle ensued until 8:09 of the third when Griffins defenseman Dylan McIlrath scores to make it 2-1. It looked like the team would lose until Paul LaDue would score at 19:24 to tie the game

A 3-on-3 overtime followed, and no one scored, despite Toronto taking a penalty with 39 seconds left

A shootout ensued which saw Mike Smith stop all 3 Griffins shooters and Kale Kossila score the game winning goal in the third round

Having read other dynasty threads, I'm going to adapt how I do them. Because of my work schedule preventing me from playing as often, I will instead do the remainder of the seasons in parts, with certain games being played as "spotlight" games. I have included photos of the current statistics for the Maple Leafs and Marlies20200815_172847.jpeg20200815_172901.jpeg20200815_172912.jpeg20200815_172925.jpeg20200815_172939.jpeg

As of December 6 2019

Having read other dynasty threads, I'm going to adapt how I do them. Because of my work schedule preventing me from playing as often, I will instead do the remainder of the seasons in parts, with certain games being played as "spotlight" games. I have included photos of the current statistics for the Maple Leafs and Marlies

Spotlight Game Preview - December 30 2019
Toronto vs Detroit @ Scotiabank Arena

Anton Khduobin gets the start tonight as the Toronto Maple Leafs (23-9-4) take on the Detroit Red Wings (13-19-4). The Leafs return home after beating Columbus 4-3 and Colorado 4-1 earlier in the week.

Leafs X-Factor - Travis Hamonic: Although not in the top 10 in scoring on his team with just 7 goals & 14 points, it's his defensive abilities that are relied on most and that's where he excels, with a +24, highest on the team. Partner Morgan Reilly is the closest with 14 after him

Red Wings X-Factor - Tyler Bertuzzi: On a team struggling to score, Tyler Bertuzzi has 23 assists and 31 points. His chemistry with Dylan Larkin should not be underestimated

Injury Report: Maple Leafs are playing without Gaetan Haas and Frederik Gauthier. Whilst Detroit, losing Calvin Pickard to injury, recently recalled Patrick Rybar to backup Bernier, who starts tonight. Wings forward Filip Zadina is also dealing with an injury
