San Jose Sharks: William Karlsson "I want to stay in San Jose."

    6/7/20

    Adam Schefter

Wild Bill isn't ready to go anywhere just yet.

"Absolutely. I enjoyed it here in San Jose. Coming from the Enemy, I was welcomed here with open arms by not just the organization, but the fans as well. I'm hoping to stay long term. I'm actually happy here." Karlsson stated.

The Vegas Golden Knights traded William Karlsson to the Division Rival, Sharks last Off-Season when a new Contract couldn't be agreed on.

In exchange, Vegas received Defenseman Justin Braun and a Draft pick.

"I kind of felt disrespected honestly. I wanted to stay in Vegas but they couldn't get a new deal done for me." Karlsson added.

In his first year with the San Jose Sharks, Karlsson suited up for all 82 Games and scored 30 Goals with 19 Assists. He was also assigned as one of the Alternate Captains this year.

The NHL Re-signing Period is on June 25th. If Karlsson isn't re-signed then Wild Bill will be hitting the market on July 1.

Boston Bruins- Hire Chris Kelly to be new Director of Player Development.

Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney has announced this morning that the Team has named former Bruin, Chris Kelly their new Director of Player Development. Kelly was with the Bruins in 2011 when they won the Stanley Cup.

"I'm excited to begin my Executive Career and I'm honored that it starts with Boston. Boston is home to me." Kelly stated.

On January 9, 2018, following his performance with Team Canada at the Spengler Cup, Kelly was re-signed to a professional tryout agreement with the Belleville Senators.

At the conclusion of the Olympics, Kelly returned to the NHL in agreeing to a one-year, $1.25 million contract for the remainder of the season with the Anaheim Ducks on February 25, 2018. He appeared in just 12 games to play out the regular season, posting two assists.

After the 17-18' Season ended, Kelly retired and spent some time away from the NHL before accepting the Job with the Bruins.

"Chris was a contributor for us when we won the Cup back in 2011. His experience on the ice will carry over to our future Players through the Farm System and out of Providence. I feel good about our future with him helping to lead the way." Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney stated.

Kelly, 39 will work side by side with Providence Bruins General Manager Evan Gold in helping to develop the future NHL Bruins. Kelly will also take over Player Development for the Boston Bruins and have an Office inside the TD Garden.

Washington Capitals- Hire Wolf Stansson as new Head Coach...

The Washington Capitals have found their next Head Coach, hiring Icelandic Wolf Stansson to a 5 year/10.5m Deal.

Stansson and the Edmonton Oilers parted ways after Contracts Negotiations fell through. The Capitals interviewed Stansson yesterday and offered him the Contract which is set to expire after the 2024-2025 Season ends.

"Edmonton was close but we know how that went. I'm happy to be here in Washington and help lead this great Franchise to another Stanley Cup Championship. That's the goal." Stansson stated.

Vancouver Canucks- Hire Phil Housley as new Head Coach...

The Vancouver Canucks have found their new Head Coach.

"We have made the decision to hire Phil Housley as our new Head Coach of the Canucks. This was a process we took serious consideration to make." Canucks new President of Hockey Operations Ken Hitchcock stated.

Vancouver interviewed John Stevens and Sheldon Keefe for Head Coach before hiring Housley.

Housley was fired from the Buffalo Sabres after they lost to the Boston Bruins in the 2018-2019 Playoffs. Housley took this year off from Coaching before announcing he was interested in interviewing for Head Coaching jobs.

Housley interviewed with the Anaheim Ducks. Housleys Deal is reported to be 3 Year/5m Deal. Contract expires after the 2022-2023 campaign.

Edmonton is now the only Team yet to hire a new Head Coach.

Edmonton Oilers: Wayne Gretzky named new Chairman and President of Hockey Operations..

              6/7/20

              Adam Schefter

The Edmonton Oilers will have the GOAT in charge moving forward.

The Oilers announced this afternoon that Vice-Chairman and arguably the greatest Hockey Player in history, Wayne Gretzky has been named new Chairman and President of Hockey Operations for the Hockey Club he helped win 4 Stanley Cups with.

Gretzky, 59, has been Vice-Chairman of the Oilers since October of 2016 when he came on.

"Edmonton has been my Home for many great years. We've raised our Family here and this City means the world to us." Gretzky stated.

"Wayne (Gretzky) is Hockey. Wayne is Edmonton. When you have the greatest Hockey Player in history on board with you, only good things are happening for the future of the Edmonton Oilers. This Franchise has 4 Stanley Cups with him. He's the best. We're very lucky to have him with us and can't wait to see what he brings to the future of our Hockey Team." Oilers Owner Daryl Katz stated.

With a General Manager still in place, Gretzky's details of his new position have been revealed.

"Ken (Holland) is our General Manager. He's done a phenomenal job so far trying to construct us a Stanley Cup caliber Team. I'm not interested in stepping on his toes or doing his job. As new President it's my job to bring on a new Staff up here in the Offices and oversee everything this Franchise does moving forward. Ken is my General Manager for the foreseeable future of the Edmonton Oilers. Ken is looking at our next Head Coach. I'm not interfering on Ken's decisions, but I will overrule him if I see fit." Gretzky said.

Wayne's position is to oversee the entire operations of the Oilers. GM Ken Holland will put together the Team and Contracts but will answer to Gretzky if any problems arise.

After missing out on Stansson, What's next for Edmonton?

                    6/7/20

                    Adam Schefter

The Edmonton Oilers are at a crossroads. They just made Gretzky the new President of Hockey Operations, and General Manager Ken Holland has yet to hire a new Head Coach.

Many thought Wolf Stansson was signing the dotted line but negotiations fell through at the last second.

The Washington Capitals then hired him to a 5 Year/10.5M Deal.

With Washington and Vancouver filling their Coaching vacancies, the Oilers have yet to do so.

"It's a process. Takes time." Oilers General Manager Ken Holland stated.

Edmonton fired Todd McLellan on April 5 after the Oilers missed the Playoffs for 3 years straight.

Since then, Ken Holland had interviewed the following.

May 30th- Interviewed John Hynes for Head Coach.

June 1- Interview Travis Green for Head Coach.

June 3- Request Interview with Team Iceland's Wolf Stansson for Head Coach.

June 4- Interviewed Iceland Head Coach Wolf Stansson for Head Coach.

June 6- Interviewed John Stevens for Head Coach.

With Stansson now officially off the market, Holland has yet to interview another candidate. Rumors are circulating that Bob Boughner will be interviewed.

Edmonton is the only Team left to not fill their Head Coach vacancy.

                          Ranking the NHL Coaching Hires..

                          6/8/20

                          Adam Schefter

With Edmonton hiring Bob Boughner yesterday, this year's Coaching Cycle is officially over. 9 NHL Teams have made a change behind the Bench for the 2020-2021 campaign. The Islanders promoted Barry Trotz to new General Manager and made Jim Hiller the new Head Coach.

As the Re-signing Period inches closer, Teams are now looking to finish filling their Staff.

Lets take a look at how each Team did..

                          Anaheim Ducks- Craig Berube (A+)

The Ducks clearly won the "Craig Berube Sweepstakes" hiring the Assistant Head Coach from St. Louis. Berube has done wonders for the Blues helping them to the Stanley Cup Finals this year for the first time in 50 years. The Blues have made deep Playoff runs with Berube on Staff. Craig was also Head Coach of the Philadelphia Flyers from 2013-2015. Anaheim should be poised for another Playoff run in the Berube ERA especially with Bob Murray still behind the Desk and Carlyle setting up shop upstairs in the Honda Center.

                          Boston Bruins- Gerard Gallant (A)

Despite missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs the past 2 years in Vegas, Gallant's resume was the reason the Bruins gave him a job. Gallant has been Head Coach of the Blue Jackets, Panthers, Golden Knights, and now lands in Boston. The Bruins have needed a new voice after early Playoff Exits past 2 years which resulted in former Coach Cassidy shown the door. If Gallant can bring his experience into New England and show Boston what they're missing. A deep Playoff run. Gallant took the NHL by storm 2 years ago leading Vegas to the Stanley Cup Finals.

                          Vegas Golden Knights- Bruce Cassidy(B+)

Vegas struck GOLD with the hiring of former Bruins Head Coach Bruce Cassidy. Cassidy's last 2 years in Boston ended in disaster as the B's never made it out of the Second Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. However Cassidy's resume can't be ignored as he had the Bruins in the Playoffs his entire tenure with the club. A change of scenery should do wonders for the club out of the Desert.

Los Angeles Kings- Todd McLellan (B+)

Despite never making it past the Western Conference Finals in San Jose, McLellan still brings years of Coaching with him. The Oilers failed to make it to the Playoffs past 3 years and now McLellan is hoping to make a change in the City of Angels. With his experience, the Kings should be a Contender in the Western Conference. Los Angeles hasn't seen the Playoffs since 2017-18 where they were swept in the First Round by the Golden Knights. L.A should bounce back with Todd behind the bench.

                          Washington Capitals- Wolf Stansson (C+)

Arguably the "Wildcard" of this year's Coaching Cycle. Despite no NHL experience, Stansson was a NHL prospect. After retirement he took up Coaching in his native Home land of Iceland. He recently took home the Silver Medal in the Junior Goodwill Games losing to Team USA Coached by Blackhawks Gordon Bombay. Stansson met with Edmonton before parting ways when Contract Negotiations fell through. The Capitals swooped in and offered Stansson a deal.

                          Vancouver Canucks- Phil Housley(C-)

The Canucks found their new Head Coach for the rebuilding Franchise this Summer. Housley was fired from Buffalo last Spring after the Sabres lost in the First Round of the Playoffs to Boston. Housley took this year off before announcing he was interested in Coaching again. Vancouver has missed the Playoffs the past 5 years straight and now the sky is the limit in Western Canada.

                          New Jersey Devils- Lindy Ruff(D+)

New Jersey is hoping a change of scenery will do new Head Coach Ruff well. The longtime Sabres Coach, has seen his struggles in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with Buffalo and Dallas. Coming from the Rangers as an Assistant Coach, Ruff has the experience to lead a Club. The Devils are looking to rebound with a new voice behind the bench.

                          Edmonton Oilers- Bob Boughner(F)

Edmonton has missed out on Stansson and Berube. Holland couldn't even get his hands on Bruce Cassidy or Gerard Gallant. So with the list of experienced Coaches dwindling... The Oilers now have possibly the best case of a worse case scenario. Bob Boughner. Boughner has just 2 years of Coaching experience where he was the former Coach of the Florida Panthers. After back to back years of missing the Playoffs, the Panthers fired Boughner for Coach Q. Now with a new Team, Boughner will look to break the Oilers 3 year Playoff drought.

New Jersey Devils: Hire Travis Green as Assistant Coach...

                            Adam Schefter

New Jersey Head Coach Lindy Ruff is adding to his Staff. The Devils announced that former Canucks Head Coach Travis Green has been hired as an Assistant Coach.

Green,49 was recently the Head Coach of the Vancouver Canucks for the past 3 years where the club from Western Canada missed the Playoffs every year.

On April 5, Green and former Canucks General Manager Jim Benning were both fired from the club.

Green interviewed with both the Washington Capitals and Edmonton Oilers for their Head Coaching vacancies.

REPORT: Blackhawks Gordon Bombay reaches out to Wolf Stansson..

                              6/8/20

                              Adam Schefter

Chicago Blackhawks Head Coach Gordon Bombay and new Washington Capitals Head Coach Wolf Stansson are no strangers to each other.

"Not at all. He's a hell of a Coach. I mean look how well he had Iceland playing in those Goodwill Games. I'm excited to see what he can do here in the NHL with Washington." Bombay stated.

Bombay and Team USA beat Stansson and Team Iceland during the Junior Goodwill Games in Anaheim, California.

The Blackhawks soon hired Bombay as Coach while Stansson went home to Iceland.

Until the Washington Capitals came calling after Edmonton dropped the ball. Or puck in this case.

"We don't need to talk about what happened with Edmonton. Everyone knows by now. We couldn't agree on numbers and Washington was the next Franchise to grab me. I'm happy to be in D.C. Gordon is a great Coach and he'll have the Blackhawks back on top of the Western Conference in time. He's not only a great Coach, but a great Friend as well. I enjoyed that experience of the Goodwill Games. The Silver Medal was a nice reward for how close we got." Stansson stated.

After Stansson accepted the offer to coach the Washington Capitals, Bombay reached out to his Friend.

"I said congratulations and I was happy for him. I look forward to our battles to come here next Season and years beyond. Imagine if we can meet in the Stanley Cup Finals. That be the cherry on top." Bombay said.

"I Text him all the time actually. He's got a year under his belt coaching in Chicago so if I can get any advice entering my first year he's at the top of my list to call." Stansson added back.
