Midfield Dominance Give QPR the Win

Allen breaks away from defenders for the sweet right footed goal

Taarabt's leaving is pretty much a foregone conclusion in the January transfer window, but while he only has received a few starts, in those games he shines brightly. The wide midfielder will be a hot commodity for some lucky team if he continues to play the way he did against Aston Villa on this cold December day. In fact, the entire midfield stepped up to control possession throughout, holding onto possession for a miraculous 68% of the contest. Because of this discrepancy, the Villans were only able to get 1 shot off the entire match, while QPR used their superior passing to find alleys to get away shots at Guzan. The breakthrough would happen in the 63', as Granero would find Taarabt out wide on QPR's half of the pitch. Allen would lull Okore to sag off a bit before making a break for it just past the half line. Taarabt would one time a perfect lob right over the top of the defense, catching a streaking Allen in stride. Neither Okore, Hutton, or the streaking back Lowton would catch him as Allen would put away the finesse right footer past Guzan for the winner. The defense would put away the clean sheet for an untested Vorm and QPR would walk away from Villa Park with three points and the win.

Bunn's Heroics Save Norwich from Defeat

Bunn made excellent saves all game to give his team a fighting chance

Norwich City has struggled mightily to put a string of wins together this season. QPR would look to capitalize on their struggles with a strong showing at home, riding high after a big win over Aston Villa. QPR and Allen would put forth a tremendous offensive effort . Allen would take a staggering six shots on goal, cutting through the porous Norwich back line with ease. Unfortunately for him, he could not convert those shots because of the excellent play of Norwich goalkeeper Mark Bunn. Bunn would make several tremendous saves off rocket powered shots from the young American striker Allen, but the best of these was a savvy move by the veteran man on a breakaway by Granero late in the match. Granero would break free on a pass from M’Bia over the top of the defense. Granero would only have the keeper to beat, and Bunn would charge out full steam toward the midfielder. Granero would see this and try to chip the ball ever so slightly over the top, but Bunn had slowed up at this point, calculating that the chip was indeed coming. The harmlessly lofted ball would end up in Bunn’s awaiting arms, ending the attack for QPR and their hopes at getting a goal. QPR would be stunned at home as Norwich City would steal a point from them in a scoreless draw that felt like a defeat for the hometown fans.

Sunderland Roll QPR as Fletcher Gets a Delightful Double

Flecther sends acknowledgement to Hoffman on the great pass

Although Sunderland's fortunes have not been the greatest this season, Steven Fletcher reminded the Black Cat faithful that there is still some life left in this proud Premier League side. The veteran striker would put forth a wonderful performance, capping the Sunderland victory with two goals within 5 minutes. The first would come in the 63', as Celustka would do a give and go with Maurias to free the midfielder up the sideline. Celustka would cross the ball after getting a slight step on Simpson, and Fletcher would climb the ladder in the middle to head the ball home for the opening goal. Soon after in the 68', Fletcher would add another, this time on the bouncing through ball from Hoffman in the middle. Fletcher would barely out muscle Ehmer inside using his long arms to get position and poke a sliding goal just past the outstreached arms of Vorm for the goal. Alvin Allen would try to rally QPR late, getting free for a header of his own off an M'Bia pass in the 84', but it was too late. Sunderland would take the win and the 3 points away as the inconsistent play for QPR would continue in a terrible loss to a bottom of the table side.

Allen's Hat Trick Gets QPR back on Track

Allen points to the back of his kit in celebration over a dejected Liverpool

Alvin Allen was electric against Liverpool on a rainy day in Zvezda Stadium. After disappointing results in their last two matches, Allen put the team on his back and scored 3 goals within a 20 minutes span to put the game out of reach. The first in the 36' was set up on a great through ball by Faurlin that cut right behind Bakho and found Allen in stride on the break as the American striker would finish the job with his left foot past Mignolet easily. The second goal came just before the half on a cross by M'Bia that Allen would head home in front of Johnson who seemed caught off guard by Allen cutting in front of him for the leaning header. Allen would finish off the hat trick in the 53' as Faurlin would snatch the ball from Sturridge on the tackle, send it forward quickly to Granero in the middle who would one time it to Allen in space. Allen would then take the powerful shot from 25 yards out, curling the ball into the upper corner of the net for a beautiful goal. Henderson would get back a meaningless goal late, but Liverpool just could not mount a comeback from the huge hole that Allen put them in. QPR would walk away with the win, 3-1.

Double Trouble as Allen Strikes Again

Allen's header in the 30' sealed the win over a struggling Everton

On the eve of a new year, Alvin Allen was resolute in his desire to see his team move back up the table within striking distance of the top 4. We have seen the star player pick on numerous defenders, but centerback Casanova particularly had a bad day against Allen. The trouble got started in the 12' as Allen tricked the defender by sneaking up on him from behind before Casanova could clear the ball. Allen would poke it away, turn and fire a shot into the lower corner past Ruddy for the opening goal of the match. As embarrassing as that was, Allen would get another goal over on him later in the second half. Phillips would send in a cross from a nice Granero feed up the wing. It looked like an easy headed clearance for Casanova inside, but Allen would sprint in from nowhere, bowl over the Everton defender and head a blistering strike into the corner for his second goal of the match. The Everton players were pleading with the referee for a foul, but the goal would stand and QPR would get its second win in a row over the hapless Toffees, 2-0.

QPR Sells Two Top Flight Starters; Star Player Allen Furious
                    by David Sevilleton

BPL Top Scorer Alvin Allen is not happy with the direction of his team

Breaking news out of White City, London, as we have just learned that two players have been sold from the Queen Park Rangers to other teams in the Barclays Premier League. Center attacking midfielder Granero and defender Roussillon have both been sold to both Stoke City and Manchester City respectively for a rumoured total of 7.6 million pounds. Manager Harry Redknapp could not be reached for comment, however, we caught Alvin Allen leaving the training ground, and he was very displeased.

"Why did I come here in the first place if we are just going to sell our best players away to other teams in the BPL?" Allen asked rhetorically. "This is ridiculous. Both Jerome and Esteban were here trying to get this team to the next level, and right when we are having an excellent season, management just decides to sell them off for peanuts? No man, that doesn't sit right with me."

When asked by another journalist about the prospect of bringing in other players with that money, it got more heated.

It is early in the window, maybe another player will be brought...

"Are you kidding with that question? The team is winning right now. The chemistry this team had was unbelievable. No manager should ever break up a winning formula."

                    So do you blame management?

"Absolutely I blame them. Why did they spend money to bring me here? I want to win, and this was a bad decision."

Will you say something to the ownership? You seem to be close to...

                    "That's out of line."

Another reporter: So will you submit a transfer request?

"I'm not making that determination at this time...Thank you."

Allen left the reporters after that. Neither management or the ownership would comment on the words that Alvin Allen said today. In the meantime, both Stoke City and Manchester City have clearly added depth to their sides with the acquisition of these two players. Granero should fit in nicely at the top of that Stoke City midfield as they look to make a late run to avoid relagation. Roussillon will indeed be a swing player at both full back positions, helping to strengthen a back line that was ravaged by injuries early in the season. Look for the young back to help in Man City's title push later this year. The prize of the January transfer window could be Alvin Allen if he indeed follows up on his threats to leave the club. The football world is now left wondering what will happen next in this drama.

                      “Quinn! NO!”
I woke up in a cold sweat, gasping for breath as I relived the final moments before that fateful hour in Brazil. I had many nights like this right after she died, and now those nightmares returned for me. The guilt was almost suffocating, creeping into my soul. Even my dreams offered no refuge from it.
Taisia had taken to telling me all about Quinn’s life. She told me of her goals, her fears, her hopes, and her dreams. They reminded me of how in that one brief moment in time that I knew her, that I really had loved her. This left me confused. I still had feelings for her, and yet, I let myself be taken by Gabby. Was it love I felt for her or was it merely a way of trying to fill that void with another person? Did any of that matter now that I had a daughter? And what about Taisia? How did I truly feel about her? These questions and more racked my brain and kept me up at night.
My exhaustion was transferring to my football life as well. I began to miss practices under the guise of illness, but I really was just taking time to try to get sleep. When sleep wouldn’t come, I would drink. I started to justify the wine as a small indulgence, but soon it would become a way to just try to get myself to sleep. I was depressed.
Soon my depression would turn to anger. I lashed out at everyone around me. Conversations with Gabby now devolved into screaming matches with each other. I grew colder towards Taisia than I had ever been with her before, giving curt responses when summoned and I was dismissive with any information she tried to give me about Quinn. Even as my attitude got worse, my play on the field got better. The pitch became my therapy as I propelled myself to top scorer in the Premier League over the course of those couple months. Wine and soccer became my best friends, but the anger will still there, bubbling under the surface.
It came to a head in January after two of my teammates were sold to other rivals within the league. I sought out the cameras to express my displeasure at the situation. I attacked my manager and the ownership and threatened to leave the team due to the moves they had made, but honestly looking back it was just a way for me to vent the anger that had been brewing inside of me for quite some time. I went on a tirade. After my initial outburst, the team rushed to cover up my spouting off with some statements of their own. But I would not stop there. I went on television shows and continued to speak to reporters about how awful the situation was, even bringing in private conversations I had with other teammates about the situation. I fed the rumor mill with information until the dam seemed as if it would burst, and all of it was just to attack something, or someone, just to make myself feel better. In the end, all I felt was hollow, but my friends wine and soccer were there to fill that void. Things were beginning to spiral for me with no abrupt end in sight.

QPR Handles Millwall, Advances in FA Cup

Hoilett showed good form against upstart Millwall

QPR found themselves at home in their first FA Cup match against Millwall, and the English Championship League would show some teeth as they tried to fight off the Rangers. QPR had been looking for another attacking option since Granero was sold to Stoke City, and the team may have found it in the resurgent work of Junior Hoilett. The winger put in excellent work for the club and would add an assist early on perfect corner strike to the big time striker Allen in the middle for the first goal in the 41'. Millwall would start the second half by pressing into the QPR side with pace and authority. After a long build up, Wright would find the forward Keogh cutting inside. He would one time the shot off the post past the diving Vorm, but the ricochet would bounce right back to him and he would poke it into the net for the equalizer in the 61'. A stunned crowd at Zvezda Stadium wouldn't stay silent for long, as a give and go with Hoilett and Allen, would find the winger sprinting inside on a run of his own, taking the 23 yard bomb with his right foot and putting the ball past the keeper just 4 minutes later in the 65' to give his team the lead and the win. Millwall would give QPR a small scare, but the better team would advance in the FA Cup competition.

QPR Holds Off Newcastle Rally to Grab The Win

Faurlin gets the first of two away goals for QPR in the first leg of the tourney

Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers will meet for two legs in this semifinal of the Capital One Cup, with the first being held in the hostile St. James Park which is the home of the Magpies. The raucous crowd was ready for a battle, but things would start horribly for the home team as QPR took the opening whistle to kick Newcastle right in the teeth. Taarabt would take the ball up the wing before crossing to Hoilett on the far side of the goal. Hoilett would make a move inside and fire a shot at Krul who would deflect the ball back into the penalty area. The ball would sit in space for what seemed like eternity, before Faurlin would take a crack and put the ball into the corner of the goal in the 6' of the match, silencing the hometown fans.
The match would take a tough turn, as both teams began to try to gain a physical edge over their opponent. Hoilett would receive a yellow card on a bad tackle near the half line, and soon Campbell would return the favor with a yellow card of his own after losing the ball in the QPR penalty area. Both teams had their chances, but neither would be able to convert as play would get bogged down in the midfield. It would be QPR which would finally find some daylight just before the end of the half as Taarabt would once again break free up the middle with Allen and M'Bia coming with him. The defenders parted, so Taarabt took an ambitious attempt from way outside the box that Krul would parry over the bar for the corner kick. The ensuing corner would be taken by Hoilett, who would put a ice cross into the box. Allen would bully his way to the ball once again and head it, but Krul would get a piece and deflect the ball back into the air. Unfortunately for him, the ball would fall right back to Allen who would head it once again into the same spot, but this time, Krul could not recover in time. The ball would bounce into the net for another goal for QPR.
Although QPR was up 2-0 at this point, the rest of the match would be thoroughly controlled by Newcastle United. A beautiful passing sequence on the restart got Tiote and his teammates in prime position for a goal scoring opportunity. Tiote would give to Sissoko at the top of the penalty area. With his back to the defenders, Sissoko would flick a pass on into a small gap that found Oberton sneaking into the box just in front of Traore. Oberton would one time the feed into the bottom far corner of the net as Vorm would dive too late to get a hand on it.
Newcastle would continue to put the pressure on into the second half, mostly being spurred on by the fresh legs of Ederson as he would come on for Campbell early in the half. His impact would be felt immediately, as the overall pace of the game would seem to quicken when the ball was on his feet. The attacker would get his chance, hitting a low strike to the bottom near post off a nice feed from Sissoko. Vorm would barely get his right hand on the ball, garnering a corner kick for the home side. The long cross would come in and Tiote would get a head on it, but once again Vorm would stand strong, snatching the ball and holding on.
Time would start to tick away for Newcastle, and they would get one more chance at equalizing. Ben Arfa carved up the right half of the pitch for most of the second half, using his explosive speed to find passing lanes back into the middle where Ederson was waiting patiently for his chance. Ederson would finally get a breakaway attempt as Onuoha cheated forward a bit to much in the center. Vorm would charge out, taking a great angle to the ball and not really giving Ederson a great chance to take a shot. The QPR keeper would slide in and take the ball of the strikers feet as Ederson would go down hard. The Magpie faithful would cry foul, looking for a late penalty attempt, but no signal would come from the referee as QPR would walk away from the match up 2-1 heading into the second leg at home.
