Managerial vacancy filled by unknown American

The Pilgrims have announced that they have filled their managerial vacancy by crossing the ocean and tapping into the newfound surge of football excitement growing within the United States, by tapping into new manager Tyler Koch, the League 2 team hopes to start their climb up towards the highest ranks of football progression, and it will be quite the ride.

It didn't take long for the American to make some moves as he quickly began to reorient the roster to represent his uptempo attack, and utilizing a 4-4-2 form, he plans to possess a smooth flowing game that outpaces the opposition and leads to multiple opportunities upon the net and create havoc on the defensive end to spurn any hopes of opposition scoring.

In his first transfer, Koch negotiated a deal to bring in American born striker, Freddy Adu to the club for the pultry sum of $1,000,000, which was quanitfiable thanks to a large swath of exodus of preexisting talent on the roster, as Koch looks to bring a new look to the squad and bring fourth young talent to develop as the team starts its ascent towards the highest levels of football.

With his friendlies under his belt and a decent showing in all three friendles that ended in a (1-2-0) record for the manager, the League 2 table is upon him, and while the transfer window is still open, Koch does have limited finances to play with and while he will look to still grow the team, some wonder how much more gouging this squad can afford to do, especially with promotion hopes in the balance, Koch is walking the fine line between success and teetering off the brink.

      Adu rebirth headliens Argyle roster

The term bust and Freddy Adu go hand in hand, especially after hype that would have supporters believe he could reach a Ronaldo or Messi level of talent that simply hadn't materialized since his rookie days in the MLS. Failed attempts at top levels across the European circuit led Adu to be considered a mere bust, and with that his value went from high to nearly non-existent.

Now the focus will be on him once again, albeit at a lower competition level and at 24, there is still a lot of football left in him. "This is an amazing opportunity, and I'm here to quite simply lead Plymouth as far as we can go, I'll do everything I'm capable of, to prove that bringing me in is worthwhile." Spoke a rather excitable Adu to a small press gathering that announced the transfer.

Adu is slated to start in the clubs opener against S****horpe United.

The projected line up for the Pilgrims in their base 4-2-2 package is,

(GK) Luke McCormick - 29 Years old - England
(RB) Curtis Nelson - 20 Years old - England
(CB) Neal Trotman - 26 Years old - England
(CB) Guy Branston - 34 Years old - England
(LB) Durrell Berry - 21 Years old - England
(RM) Lewis Alessandra - 24 Years old - England
(CM) Romuald Boco - 28 Years old - Benin
(CM) Jacob Murphy - 18 Years old - England
(LM) Marvin Morgan - 30 Years old - England
      (S) Reuben Reid - 25 Years old - England
      (S) Freddy Adu - 24 Years old - United States

Adu debuts with a pair of goals
The Pilgrims capped off a firework filled opener following their 4-2 victory over the Scuthorpe United side, in a somewhat sloppy affair as the team became acclimated in a competitive setting with the new up-tempo and high paced game that Koch imparts upon his squad, and largely due to this the team struggled in the early going, falling behind 1-0 and 2-1 before taking off with 3 unanswered goals through the final half of play to take an early stop at the top of the table.

Adu got the tying goal to knot it at 2-2, and ultimately put the game away with a penalty kick (the lone Scuthorpe foul) in the 79th minute that extended the lead to 4-2. The difference in fouls was astounding, with three yellow cards issued against Plymouth Argyle and 11 fouls to only one foul for the Scuthorpe side.

"They lack discipline, but they are in a new system with a lot of youth, so it is to be expected." Let out a simply defeated Scuthorpe manager to a small group of reporters following his sides defeat.

The Pilgrims next game will be the opening round of the Capital One cup where they face Leicester City of the Champions league (second tier).

(Scuthorpe misspelled intentionally to avoid filter.)

          Leicester city embarrasses Pilgrims

Leicester city absolutely tore apart Plymouth Argyle in a one sided 7-3 defeat of the League 2 side, Leicester city is a favorite to win the Championship level of English football, and given that Plymouth Argyle is just in the mix for a promotion, the draw was rather unfavorable, the game went 3-1 into the half, after a 1-1 tie heading into the 33rd minute.

A late goal and penalty in the 83rd and 89th minute were all the offense that the Pilgrims got on a day where Leicester City absolutely dominated the competition, making it entirely too difficult for the outmatched side to even compete in this matchup. Worse of all, Freddy Adu sprained his knee in the matchup and is likely to miss most of the upcoming month, after scoring the knotting goal in the first half, Adu left with the injury.

Leon Goretzka headlines latest transfer news

No, the club didn't land Goretzka on a permanent basis, at least not yet, but the team did agree with a transfer deal that brings the 18 year old to Plymouth Argyle for the remainder of the season, rather simply at the cost of wages. Goretzka figures to be a starter in the center, where he will be joined by Romauld Boco who has made every play asked of him as he climbed into the starting XI with some strong play in the wake of injuries.

The team will also sell two more players bringing in a total sum of $700,000. With the most notable deal being the sending of Tyler Harvey to Mansfield Town for $450,000, a huge coup when the youngster was placed on the market, many felt that his value would be significantly lower, this move gives the squad some excellent mobility in the transfer market this season.

Pilgrims win two of three to remain in the top quarter of the table

Plymouth managed to win 2 of 3 despite injuries dilapidating their ranks, without Freddy Adu and Goretzka not quite match fit, the Pilgrims managed to smother the Wycombe Wanders in a 2-0 decision, thanks to a quick pair of goals in the 33rd and 38th minute, the Pilgrims utilized their havoc inducing offensive prowess to smash the opposition with fatigue and confusion as their side improved to 2-0 on the season and clung onto the top spot in the table.

Their first loss came to the Bristol Rovers, in a game where the Rovers managed through a brilliant display of ball possession to quell the opposition and while the 70/30 possession ratio only amounted to a 2-1 decision, the Pilgrims unleashed 4 shots on net in the final 3 minutes of play but a brilliant display of goal tending allowed the Rovers to escape with the victory, and in his first game sporting the Plymouth Virdian, Leon Goretzka would leave with calf pain and is expected to miss ast least a weak of game action, which marks their second transfer to miss time.

Without three of their original starting XI in play, the Pilgrims fielded a competitive matchup against Accrington Stanley and ended up winning 2-1. The result stemming from a late goal in the 73rd minute from Reuben Reid, and shortly after, Michael Richardson would be sent off from the Accrington side and down a man, Accrington couldn't mount a proper attack and succumbed to the injury laden side.

Freddy Adu was cleared the day following the Accrington Stanley fixture to return to match play, whether he will start against the MK Don's in the upcoming Johnstone's Paint Trophy opener, with the Don's being accessed as slight favorites, especially with Conor Hourihane and Leon Goretzka not being active for the matchup.

Strikers knot two to lead Pilgrims past Dons

With Freddy Adu sitting out the entire 90 minutes to nurse his injury and allow him to be active for league play, striker tandem Marvin Morgan and Reuben Reid each struck a shot to the back of the net, Morgan knocking one in off a rebound from the post in the 33rd minute, and Reid adding the game winner in the 87th minute after holding off a defender as he crossed into the box and delivered a powerful strike home.

Curtis Nelson continues to play at a surreal level, the 20 year old youngster that is known mostly for his leaping ability was selected man of the match for the second time this short season and has been raising his stock readily. The defender will look to continue growing as the team continues to win.

                    Lewandowski headlines transfer deals

With rumours of Lewandowski planning a trip to Bayern Munich to improve an already tremendous squad, those were quickly evaporated as Borussia came to terms with a deal that sends Lewandowski to Chelsea for the sum of $45,500,000 USD. Lewandowski is a huge talent and was considered one of the top talents to be on the transfer markets this season and the team took full advantage.

Joining the upgrades at the top of the Premier League was Manchester United and Manchester City, with United bringing in Mehmet Ozil for a sale of $44,500,000 USD to promote an impressive squad that will look to stay in competition with Chelsea following their big acquisition, which will keep them both deeply rooted in the competition to be the top of the league.

Manchester City came to terms with PSG for Thiago Silva, the third highest transfer deal of the window coming almost immediately as two top competitors improved their rosters, and City wasn't about to allow this to go unanswered. The Premier League saw their top 3 improve tremendously in this transfer window.

In quieter news, Plymouth Argyle announced their sale of Maxime Blanchard to Crew Alexandria for $350,000 which gives them what projects to be the biggest transfer budget in League 2 with their shrewd dealings and they are rumoured to be looking to make moves as the window reaches its crescendo. Argyle also announced that Leon Goretzka will be active for their upcoming league matchup after missing 3 matches.

Pilgrims sign one after failed negotiations to conclude transfer window

The first month of football action has concluded and the inaugural transfer window came to a halt after the squad made manuvers to ensure there would be more than enough transfer funds only to fail to sign a player with players such as Daniel Bachmann of Stoke City being tossed around as potential landee's in the Greens.

Their lone signing was one that brings some tempered expectations, in youngster Nathan Ake of Chelsea, the young centere back truly struggled in the few friendlies he was given action in and his stock seemingly plumetted, as Chelsea yielded from a 2,000,000 asking price to a much more friendly $1,000,000 deal which did do well enough to hurt the coffers in Plymouth, but what he brings should be enough, the team still wished to have added a midfielder to the mix, or a goal keeper (with McCormick's contract set to expire), neither goal was filled, but they did make a big leap forward in the defensive end.

Is it a horrible thing? Not for a Plymouth squad that is starting to get healthy and is sitting within promotion range, but they would definitely like to claw their way into automatic promotion range, that is for certain, as they currently are in a six team glut for the playoff. Naturally, August is far too early to be worrying; but a strong start is always good and while they only have two losses, they are still only sporting a (3-2-0) record.

The team was eliminated from the Capital One cup in a dominating showing, while they remain alive for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Ending the month on a bitter 2-1 defeat to Burton-Albion was tough to stomach but the lack of form from top players Goretzka and Adu were evident as they showed some sign of hampering in the matchup and both were subbed out by the half to prevent any further injuries. The club gets two weeks to catch it's breath and heal, before a four game September that features Southend, Fleetwood Town, Portsmouth and Cheltenham.

Southend rallies to send Plymouth down the table in first week of action

Needless to say, after leading 3-0 at the end of the first half against a Southend United side that appeared to be beyond outclassed, the team was unable to generate any sort of semblance of balance that the first half possessed, while subbing out Reed, Adu and Goretzka to allow rest, the fringe replacement players simply were out manned and succumbed to the opposition side, the game would end in a draw after a goal in the 86th minute knotted the score at 3-3. The draw would be enough to hold Plymouth outside of the promotion group.

In their next game, they emerged victorious when Freddy Adu looped in a ball to Rueben Reed inside of the box, which the English striker unleashed into the back of the net in the 54th minute of the game. Adu has struggled to hit the net, not scoring since his first game, but at the least he has been aiding in opportunities for the offensive end, as he picks up his third assist of the season.

The draw to Southend ultimately knocked the Pilgrims to an eighth place tie with Southend, as the two have 13 points, Chesterfield is running away thus far, having won all 7 fixtures and looking simply unbeatable. Their next fixture features 10th ranked Portsmouth, before taking on an extremely beatable Cheltenham Town which sits towards the bottom of the table.

Draws accentuate a rough pair of fixtures for Pilgrims

Having drawn 3 of the last 4 fixtures has been a tough state of affairs for the Pilgrims who have shown next to no sign of growth, and seemingly begun to take a step backwards, while the draw against a competent squad such as Portsmouth is no insult, the draw to Cheltenham Town will definitely sting supporters.

The draws drop the team below Southend United who lost one and won one to jump ahead of the Pilgrims, Plymouth does only remain 2 points from playoff seeding. The disappointing matters include that Cheltenham was a man short when they tied the game at 2-2, and players such as Branston are declining tremendously, while internal struggles continue to mount as Paul Wotton went public with his displeasure with the team.

The club had a poor September besides not losing a match, they couldn't win either. Looking forward to October the club will need to climb back into the promotional picture.

Injuries; Suspensions send Pilgrims with another loss

The Pilgrims managed to pass into the 8th spot thanks to a dangerous fall by AFC Wimbledon which dropped both fixtures in the opening week of October, they sit only a point away from being back into the promotion bubble, but a loss to Cheltenham Town, kept them from bursting into the promotion bubble. Oddly enough, a win and draw for Cheltenham Town against the Pilgrims has them out of the basement of League 2, while the Pilgrims would've loved those 6 points from the bottom of the table squad, which would've propelled them into 3rd if they could've taken care of business.

In regards to injuries, the Pilgrims would miss three starters for the Cheltenham fixture, thanks to a suspension and injuries. Neal Trotman left the defensive end due to drawing a red card in the squads victory for the opening fixture of the month, while Jacob Murphy moved to the bench due to a dislocated shoulder that will likely shelf him for the remainder of the month.

The Pilgrims face off against 9th ranked, AFC Wimbledon in their next matchup, the second round of the Johnstone Paint Trophy tourney.

Adu returns to form as Pilgrims knock off AFC Wimbledon

It might've taken almost two months but Freddy Adu managed to knot home two goals in a crucial match as the Pilgrims continue to trudge onwards as they seem to regain their form that allowed them to burst out of the gates early in the season. Wimbledon is on a bad streak as of late, having lost 3 of 4, and tumbling down the League 2 table, and this early exit only adds to the disappointment the side has accrued thus far.

Freddy Adu would unleash three more shots, including one that bounced off the post and ended up deflecting beyond the net for a goal kick, while Reuben Reid would add a vicious volley that would cascade well over a wide open net, the score could've been blown wide open had the ball bounced just slightly differently. Freddy Adu had as many shots (5) as the entire AFC Wimbledon squad had.

"They simply outhustled and outmanned us. They beat us on the pitch and off. They were the better team today and that's that." Let out Neal Ardley, the head man for AFC Wimbledon, who led his team which was atop the League 2 table midway through last month but hadn't won a game since.
