Pilgrims need every minute to stave off the Dons

The MK Don's were responsible for tournament turmoil a year ago for the Pilgrims, now that the two are in joint league play, the results appeared to be much more in favor of the Pilgrims than last time, and after going up 2-0 and 3-1 it definitely appeared the Pilgrims wouldn't struggle to hold off the Don's. Not when they Leon Goretzka laced one in past a sprawled out goal tender, not when Mensah nailed his penalty kick to make it 3-1, but a pair of quick goals after half time and suddenly the teams were tired.

The teams battled in midfield for possession and in the 83rd minute, Mensah took a clean shot and it rattled off the corner of the iron and would be cleared, and in the 90th minute, the Don's would catch Bachmann out of position but the kick would sail well over the net and Koch could catch a sigh of relief.

More missed Pilgrim opportunities would spell out the remainder of the first period of extra time, and finally in the 117th minute, an exhausted Leon Goretzka managed to work free just outside the goal box and boot one in for the game winning score, swarmed by his tired teammates, the midfielder can celebrate as the Pilgrims win a very hard fought game.

Onward the Pilgrims get a little bit of reprieve as they face a bottoming squad in Chesterfield who sits with a -5 goal differential and only one win thus far (as opposed to their near undefeated run through League 2). Their next opponent will be Torquay United on October 7th. Torquay is (3-0-2) with 9 points in League 2 action.

The other German squad that poses the most threat to Bayern made the two biggest signings of the training window by agreeing to deals with Oscar of Chelsea, and Nasri of Manchester City in what should start to close the enormous gap that has permeated between Bayern Munich and the rest of the league.

        Six in a row!

Over the streak of 3 consecutive games, the Pilgrim's remain in championship form, as they best 3 more foes in Oldham, Chesterfield and Coventry as they win each fixture in a 2-0 decision with Mensah getting his fourth goal and Mamaev getting his third, boasting both inside of the top 15, Martial tied for ninth as well with 3. An impressive showing for both strikers to be within the top of the league, the Pilgrims are looking absolutely unbeatable.

Lewis Alessandra also sits atop League 1 with 4 assists, and he was a huge target in the transfer window but many teams didn't value his services as the Pilgrims have, he has proven to be a true facilitator of the offense and while he isn't as highly regarded as others in the lineup, his ability to set up scores as been unbeatable.

Joining Alessandra atop League 1 is Daniel Bachmann whom leads League 1 with 5 clean sheets, Steele of Barnsley sits in second with 3, and rather impressively, Preston North End has three separate goal tenders in the top 7, each with 1 clean sheet (Stuckmann, James, Bailo).

Pilgrims are on a class of their own

Four more fixtures later and suddenly this team is appearing to be even more of a force, even despite an injury to Pavel Mamaev, the team continued to tear apart their competition and across the four fixtures, boasted 3 more clean sheets, making Bachmann look even more impressive between the pipes as his lead in League 1 action continues to grow and the team continues to grow as a whole.

That is the true benefit, as this squad has several young players that are growing in such a way that they appear to be absolutely unbeatable and will continue to impress as time wavers on. The Pilgrims boast several youngsters in their ranks and will need to keep moving forward with them to keep this run of success which is almost unprecedented.

A 1-0 finish in Sheffield allowed for some excitement as a few counter attacks late in the game appeared to cause some trouble for them but that would ultimately be dispelled as the team broke free and ruined any opportunities the Sheffield side had.

Crawley Town spent a lot in the recent transfer window in hopes of bringing about more success for their squad, bringing in several new players and it's obvious that there is chemistry issues and they would end up on the wrong side of a 3-0 decision that had the Pilgrims faithful enjoying a rather peaceful afternoon as Crawley Town had no shot at theatrics.

In the third matchup, against Preston North End, the Pilgrims put up another 2-0 scoreline that favored them. It would be 1-0 going into the second half but a bad penalty inside the box allowed for the lead to be extended to a 2-0 game and the rest of the second half was rather uneventful.

In their final fixture before they take on Torquay United, AFC Bouresmouth attempted with all of their ability to stun the Pilgrims, and while a 1-1 draw at the 38 minute mark (including a goal for AFC within the first 10 minutes), but from than on, it would be all Plymouth who would go on to win in a final score of 4-1. As the league breaks for Cup action, Pavel Mamaev returns.

Anthony Martial has move dto a tie for the lead with 7 goals in League one, tied with Haynes and Grigg of Notts County and Brentford respectively. Lewis Alessandra continues to hold down the lead for assists with 4, albeit now tied by Wilson and O'Kane of Coventry City and Bournemouth. Daniel Bachmann pitched his sixth, seventh and eighth cleansheets putting him firmly at the top with 8, Steele of Barnsley sits well behind with only 4. On the negative side of things Conor Hourihane sits with 4 yellow cards, third in the league behind Upson and Perkins of Yeovil Town and Barnsley.

Red card causes drama for Plymouth in Johnstone Cup

The Pilgrims appeared on pace for another easy victory after Maximillian Meyer knocked a punishing goal into the back of the net, and in short order afterwards, Anthony Martial dispossed a defender in front of the net and knocked it past the goal tender who came up to try and take the ball from his feet. 2-0 by the half and another easy victory appeared to be in the works.

On the negative side of things, Andre Blackman would be caught in a small scrum outside of the goal box, and while he stayed in until being subbed off, it was revealed that he had broken his toe and wouldn't be able to return for this match and the club revealed it could take as long as two months to get him back to the pitch.

Shorthanded on the defensive end, young prospect Jose Magellan came in from the bench and played admirably, but Curtis Nelson whom received another start after being public with his dismay in his lack of starting time would draw a red card after two careless tackles leaving the Pilgrims a man short for almost thirty minutes, and in the 79th minute, Bachmann would be beat after the Torquay strike lifted a shot over his head after a scrum in front of the goal left a wide open shot on net.

Pavel Mamaev came in from the bench shortly after as well, Mamaev still recovering from his injury didn't play in his best form and didn't do overly much, but after some theatrics in the 83rd minute, the Pilgrims would keep the ball out of their own zone and end the game on a corner that would be unsuccessful, the referee blowing the game dead shortly after the save.

The Pilgrims take on another League 2 squad in Northampton, but Northampton is heavily invested in the race for promotion this year around and it could be an interesting matchup but with the way the Pilgrims are tearing through their competition in League 1 play, it's unlikely the result will be much different, the Pilgrims have quickly made themselves favorites to win the cup.

              Transmere threatens massive win streak

Transmere struck early and struck hard, punishing Bachmann's one mistake on the afternoon for a goal. The young goaltender played beautifully afterwards but make no mistake, this game was filled with drama from top to bottom. The early goal had Plymouth quickly reeling as they experimented with a new lineup after a recent string of suspensions and injuries.

Bringing in a resting Maximillian Meyer from the bench seemingly gave the spark that was needed as he assisted Anthony Martial on a run allowing the young striker to knock in another goal to put his team back on level pegging, but so often youngsters make mistakes and it would be no different in this matchup.

Eulogio Anibal, making his first start watched as a striker entered the goal box and made an excellent read, but went for the tackle a second too late and caught said strikers leg, sending him tumbling to the ground and the referees quickly whistled for a penalty, in the 59th minute of a 1-1 game, this appeared that it would finally be Plymouth's time to lose.

The shot went off and Bachmann dived just in time to deflect it before a scrambling Ake booted the ball off, clearing the threat as Koch was able to breath a sigh of relief. The time for concern would shift to the opposite end, when Leon Goretzka would tip off a pass to Martial inside the box, the striker would attempt to go around a defender whom shoved him to the ground.

              Penalty kick.

The teams watched as the two players battled in the box, a determined stare from both ends, one team wanting to end a streak that no other team has yet been able to do. The other clutching onto a very impressive run of football.

              Guess who won?

The ball would hit the left side of the net, after a fake to the right would send the goaltender tumbling in the opposite direction and rather embarrassingly leaving the majority of the net wide open, the shot would go on to win the game.

In the 90th minute, Transmere would mount a vicious attack, but their pair of shots would be blocked by Curtis Nelson and Nathan Ake respectively, with Ake getting another crucial boot that skittered the ball to the opposite end of the pitch as the referee whistled the end of the most dramatic game to date for Plymouth.

The Pilgrims picked up their 42nd point, allowing just their fifth goal of the year to their opponents in a clearly outmatched league. The MK Don's jointly didn't allow a clean sheet, after picking up an 83rd minute goal, albeit far too late to matter in their matchup, a game that would be won by Plymouth in a 2-1 affair. Portsmouth who holds the honor of being the only team to beat the Pilgrims this season (albeit in tournament play), would fall harmlessly in a 2-0 decision, another cleansheet for Bachmann.

Re: Greener Pastures Upon the Pitch - Manager Legacy of Tyler Koch -

                Yeovil Town ends the streak

The loss column still holds a zero when it comes to the Pilgrims who start out the month of November with a victory against Colchester in a 1-0 decision thanks to a goal by Anthony Martial, another clean sheet in another day would be just ordinary for the Pilgrims.

Oddly enough however, despite some fatigue, the team couldn't best Yeovil Town who scored the equalizer on a string of beautiful passing in the late second half of their fixture. It was an excellent display that led to a 1-1 draw in a matchup that had one clear favorite emerging and ended up showing the fragile nature of the game of football.

Their matchup with Northampton looms and the stresses of this draw will have to be left behind in order for this team to return to their winning form.
